These recommendations provide a diverse range of isekai experiences, from comedic adventures to dark, psychological journeys, ensuring there's something for every type of anime fan.
You silly kids and your new fangled new age anime! The best Isekai is the one that started ALL isekai's, especially the BS " Help, I am trapped inside of a video game" kind of Isekai.
There were definitely isekais before it. You want to talk about old stuff, you gotta talk about InuYasha. As much as I have gripes with the anime and the manga, I think it was one of the few isekai I have seen or heard of, still, that actually feels like a normal anime and less of horny escapism.
Fushigi Yuugi.
Old people represent!
Although to be fair, the oldest Isekai protagonist was probably Jesus.
Technically Alice in Wonderland was an isekai.
Inuyasha isn't an isekai. It's a time travel story.
Konosuba.
Funniest anime, the characters feel like actual friends and has surprisingly and overlooked emotional scenes and actually just amazing writing. Especially the world building it’s amazing.
>Funniest anime
I wouldn't say it's funnier than Nichijou, konosuba is funny but a lot of it is "loud and horny=funny"
I mean funny is subjective to me Konosuba is definitely the funniest whereas with Nichijou I did like it but probably only laughed out loud like 3 or 4 times in the entire show whereas in Konosuba it’s about 3-4 times an episode
Konosuba, then mushoku
There are other great ones though
Nah. Mushoku first (still yet to watch Konosuba, been meanin to for about a year but I keep getting distracted)
Can't blame you, mushoku is awesome. The mood and pacing is also very different from konosuba, apart from being both isekai they have quite little in common tbh
I would agree but i have one anime to add to the list: Overlord
People ask for reccomendations usually but what are your favourite isekai anime in general?
And if you want to can you explain why? What's so good about it and would you reccomend it to others? Or just to a specific group of people?
I don't even like most isekai, so idk why I got this sub in my feed, but my answer is Sonny Boy.
It's objectively an isekai, but it's nothing like the other shows in the genre. It's more like if you mixed FLCL and The Drifting Classroom, and then wrote it in the same style as Serial Experiments Lain.
It's unapologetically artsy and interpretive, but I think it's the best show I have seen at being that. It's certainly not for everyone, but if it is for you, it's probably a 9-10/10 for you.
Ascendence of a Bookworm - great worldling building that takes its time
Log Horizon - great use of video game mechanics with a focus on political intrigue
That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime - really enjoy the town/nation building. Also fun power fantasy.
Digimon - mostly nostalgia but also the fact it’s one of the few isekai where the characters try to return home (which I wish more modern isekai would do)
I really like the psychological and underpowered aspects of ReZero. It's one of my favorites.
Grimgar is great. It's basically a dungeons & dragons party but they're the b-list adventurers and are struggling every minute. There's a little trauma here but probably not as much trauma as rezero.
I really like so I'm a spider, because she's in a non-standard form and has really cool abilities and a fun personality. It's pretty action-packed too.
The beginning after the end is really well done. A lot of people don't like the anime because they like the web cartoon better but I like both. His progression is really good from an infant to a young man and he really holds on to his original personality... Like you know he is King Gray Even though he has softened a bit and learned new things.
Those are my top 4 but you might find some of these interesting as well.
I like reborn as a vending machine just because it's fun.
I liked sword art online but it was also probably the first of that genre that I saw. I also watched gun Gale cuz it was similar but with guns.
I've seen a couple of episodes of The water magician which is still running and I thought that was pretty good. I just haven't seen enough to really know where it's going.
I liked the realest hero builds the kingdom just because it went into political and economic aspects.
I like moonlit fantasy and it's an anime like so I'm a slime where your recruiting your enemies to your team. It's also nice that the OP is treated badly and exiled.... The bad treatment being kind of like shield hero. It is however interesting that he's treated badly and exile for being ugly.
Cautious hero felt a bit different because his personality was so different but they kind of explain later what's going on with him.
Shield hero was fun cuz he was basically one of the few people around that wasn't a jerk. And he was the underdog and treated badly from the beginning.
Overlord was cool because he was a villain and a lich.
I do like That time I got reincarnated as a slime and arifureta But they do feel really similar to im a spider.... With the eating enemies to gain their abilities.
I was okay with reincarnated as a sword but if I was choosing between that and vending machine, I would definitely go with vending machine.
Cautios hero is really good, specially the LN. I read where the anime left and was even better than the previous history IMO.
Thanks 😊 we've heard of most of these and watched the biggest part too. We'll definitely look into the one we haven't heard of before
Which one have you not heard of? This way people don't keep recommending the same ones.
Re: Zero and Tensura, they are my favorite isekais that have already been adapted into anime. Both have charismatic characters, good fights and memorable scenes. The main differences are the tones of the two works, Tensura is cute and fun, while Re: Zero is darker, deeper and impactful ✌️
Saga of Tanya the Evil - Absolute cinema. The story, the intellectual warfare strategies, the deductions, the epic battles, MC's determination...etc. If you're a person of logic, you'll love this.
Campfire Cooking - Chill vibes with loveable characters. From the loveable slime Sui's sweet voice to Mukoda's cooking, Fenrir's awesomeness, oveall comedic points of the show, and the hilarious kazoo bgm. Nothing beats coming home after a hard day and watching this
Farming Life in Another World - Chill vibes and an interesting premise. The name makes you wonder that this is probably some lame anime, but its made surprisingly well
Konosuba - The GOAT of comedy. Tired of OP MC's? Well there's nothing OP at all about this guy and his teammates. But yet he gains achievements after achievements and watching their interactions is a complete riot. Explosion is also redefined in a way Michael Bay can never imagine!
The Eminence of Shadow - Anime comedy matched with epicness. You get the most awesome VA lines other anime don't have, crazy well choreographed fights, beautiful epic ladies, and an MC with the weird disposition of being epicly badass 1/2 the time while the other 1/2 he wants to be the best nobody background mob character he can be.
Ascendance of a Bookworm - To start, who knew you can make such a great anime based on a book loving girl? Watching Myne overcome mountain of obstacles including poverty, poor health, and wrestling with death due to her magical capacity, its quite a captivating view. Refreshing story unique to itself, loveable characters, and no fan service
Overlord - Unique as the MC becomes his game avatar & guild environment that focus' on horror & grotesque monsters. That said, even though its a dark themed anime, it highlights intellectual strategic plays, great world exploration/building, and comedic elements. Though it does have some issues like poor 3D integration, some weird lines, some episodes that goes off rail from the MC, to the weird dance between expressing human empathy vs undead logic...etc, it still hits several great notes in the ascension of the MC. Its movie in particular was wonderful to watch
There's probably many more anime of the isekai genre that I enjoy, but just shooting some off the top of my head that were my recent rewatches.
Damn, I watch and like all of your recommendations aside from bookworm which I haven't watch yet. Look like we have common taste so maybe I'll go watch the bookworm one.
Just like it says what Is the best isekai, in your opinion. I want to get a general list from most popular to least. I plan to watch most of them.
Top 9
Most of these are manga and the list doesn't actually indicate how I rank them in relation to each other, I pretty much like all of them equally
Nr1. sus
The Executioner and Her Way of Life is my favorite/personal best. The series just keeps getting better and better after the anime ends.
Ascendance of a Bookworm, Faraway Paladin, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, MagiRevo, and Re:Zero are also strong contenders.
If it's only for anime, just go to mal.
I think there are over 250+ Isekai Shows to watch
https://simkl.com/5743957/list/69043/isekai-most-watched-anime
uhhh the level 99 villain one is my favorite not-super-popular pick but tensura and youjo senki are probably my favorite overall
Isekai Ojisan
Youjo Senki
Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri
Konosuba cause it’s a parody and hilarious and aquas ass.
Zero no Tsukaima was my very first isekai and despite its flaws I loved it.
Isekais that I like:
Overlord, The New Gate, SAO (only season 1 and 2), Re;Zero, GATE, Failure Frame, The Greatest Alchemist, Tensura and probably a few more I'm forgetting... wanted to add TBATE to the list but so far the animation is ultra rough.
My favourite current day isekai? Most definitely Mushoku Tensei.
Greatest alchemist doesn't get enough love
tensei? dude it's so fucking creepy
The world building and character development is definitely some of the best, though. Two things can be true at once.
Either Re:Zero or Lord of the Mysteries
The goat
I haven’t seen to many and was wondering what some of the best are to watch.
KonoSuba has probably given me the most overall enjoyment out of any isekai. The comedy really works for me.
The Twelve Kingdoms might be my favorite non-comedy. I just wish it was finished.
Think the comedy works for a lot of people lol I have never heard of the twelve kingdoms I will try it I know have a very long list of anime to watch...
Escaflowne, monster rancher, inuyasha, now and then here and there, .hack
true OGs of isekai
TIL Escaflowne is an isekai
Haven’t seen a single one of these which should I watch first?
Inuyasha will be the longest one with almost 200 episodes. I'd watch Escaflowne first.
For me it also is Re:Zero Nr1 with Konosuba a bit behind it on Nr2 and a huge gap afterwards
Does Spirited Away count? If not then probably KonoSuba.
Have seen konosuba don’t know if spirited away counts have never heard of it
I don't mean to be rude but this kind of blows my mind. Are you sure you've never heard of Spirited Away? Have you heard of Studio Ghibli or Miyazaki?
Rezero is my #1
Ascendence of bookworm is really good
For me, Konosuba and Re:Zero dominate the isekai genre. (I hate Slime and Mushoku Tensei....for absolutely no reason)
Konosuba is hands down one of the funniest anime I've ever watched. Sure, it has its serious moments, but lt is Known for being a chaotic comedy masterpiece. And it does the Comedy part exceptionally well.
Re:Zero, on the other hand, is simply the best isekai out there right now. Unlike the Stereotypical Isekais it dives headfirst into darker, more unsettling territory. Sure, there are lighthearted moments, but this series makes you feel Sad and uncomfortable. It’s uncanny in the best way possible.
(LoTM, of course, will be the peak of isekai anime—no, the peak of fiction—when it drops, so that deserves its own post.)
What about you?(Yes, You behind the screen). What is Your favorite isekai anime?
Mushoku tensei (ln ofc) >= Re:zero > konosuba
That's kind of low ball if you compare the source to anime . As a person who have read all of RZ(LN and WN) and till vol 19 or 20 of MT (WN).
While RZ kinda fell down from vol 28 to vol 39 [Mega comeback from vol 40]. Before from vol 27 RZ clearly slaps MT in terms of source material. RZ have way high rise when things go down compared to MT which is consistently (good or very good) . Which other people agree who have read both of them . Before vol 27 RZ was considered a masterpiece but RZ had its turn of author doing what ever he wants from vol 28 to vol 39 and things got a little foggy .
I would rather say Anime wise MT > RZ but then again, MT is coming to slight dark turns for S2 and even more S3 . So who knows how the ranking will be affected in the future.
Tbh I think you are a bit harsh on arc 7+8. While not as good as arc 6, I do think they are better than arcs 1,2,3,5 and so do a lot of others. Main issue with it is that it feels a bit of a side story until volume 38, and should have had a few more deaths (at least there was a very significant one), but in actual quality I think it's good especially when binge reading (my friends who binged read it recently really like it).
For me :-
Dropped konosuba.
Orv is reverse isekai but that’s not counted as isekai
mine personally is:
Dropped Konsuba!?
https://i.redd.it/qi42bynz03fe1.gif
It's the funniest Gooner Material out there How do You Boys not like this? They put this much Fan service for you guys and Yall don't even have any respect for it 😞....
Konosuba out..
Nah sol doesn't sit well with me.
And yes , i also dropped konosuba due to the fanservice, almost dropped no game no life as well due to fanservice
Orv .
I loved when Dokja said "I am the omniscient reader, and this is my viewpoint" chillsss literal chillss
yeah , i am an anime only and plan to remain that way. i improve or reduce my rating depending on the upcoming arcs.
TBATE (LN)
Mushoku tensei (LN)
Rezero (anime)
the beginning after the end🙂
Re:Zero
Konosuba
Overlord
(Not ranked)
That said, maybe switch one of them with No Game, No Life, but again, not ranked
Slime - konosuba - Re zero P.S - Completed all the series mentioned
Re:Zero, (not an animanga) "Lord of the Mysteries," Konosuba
They both took forever for new season. Like over 4 years of waiting I think.
Idk but I should be the MC of all of them NGL
Re zero, No game no life, Mushoku tensai are my favs. saga, overlord, slime, shield, isekai ojisan, kami sama, and konosuba where all good tho.
Surprised it's not here. But mushoku tensei
Cause people dont know what good character development is
Konosuba
Re Zero
shield hero
Overlord. Only one I've watched 4+ times, sometimes back to back
Just wondering, because there is an illegal amount of isekai shit everywhere. I don't have one because I watched all the "good" isekai right at the beginning of my anime down-spiral.
1.Re zero 2.Konosuba 3.Mushoku Tensei
Mushoku Tensei is man
I second this dude's list, but I might replace Konosuba with Kumo or Moon-Led Journey.
I feel like it’s good because of the animation, but it gets just like every other boring isekai later(I read the manga) so my top is
1.Re zero 2.Tensei Slime 3.Konosuba
Faraway Paladin
Kumoko(or something)
Youjo Senki
its "Kumo Desu ga, Nanika?"
well, can't blame for forgetting title, but its considered as good title compared to most LN nowaday
Love to see one of my favorite animes get love in this subreddit. It came out around the same time as so many mainstream anime so it gets overlooked. Truly a hidden diamond.
Litterally.
I'm the kind of person who will watch a recommendation with little to know context of what it's about and Iruma is one of the best animes to do that with. It makes the first episode way funnier.
I had to pause before the narrator even finished talking because I was so shocked into laughter
I only like KonoSuba, because it's a parody.
I hate the genre otherwise.
You might like Eminence in Shadow, it makes fun of the edgelord character by letting you hear the protagonists inner thoughts as he plans it all. He's also totally insane which kinda makes the premise more palatable. He's not some normal highschool kid who awkwardly becomes a god and gets a harem. He's a total psychopath who will do literally anything to aura farm and doesn't really give a shit about his harem at all, in fact his harem are the only competent people in the show, and operate independently of him 99% of the time.
The difference unfortunately is that Konosuba just has better characters
Cid's insanity is something else lol
Reminds me of Overlord, how Eins’ followers always credit him for coming up with a mastermind plan when they basically came up with it themselves and he has no idea wtf is going on but plays along.
Have you seen Uncle from Another World (Isekai Ojisan) it’s parody/homage as well
Double isekai. They get sent to another world and then the beings of that other world get sent to theirs
Underrated for sure, the plot was peerles even nailing mc turning evil episoide and leaving you wanting more, not sure on any other anime that was so consistantly good 100% of the time
The manga is a lot ahead of season 3, too bad it's not pubblished in my country. =(
The manga is fucking peak
