Dangers In My Heart. Hands down. Made me tear up almost every episode later on in the series. First 2 episodes have some cringey elements, but it's extremely wholesome and meaningful the rest of the way.

I strongly recommend Kamisama Kiss. It has a beautiful romance with great progress. 2 seasons and a fantastic ending.

Edit: forgot to mention that the story is also very good with a great female lead.

My favorite romance anime is Tsukigakirei.

The relationship felt real, the OST is incredible, the animation style is unique, the ending is my favorite out of any show and it skips over most tropes in romance anime.

Kimi ni Todoke. It’s a slow-burn, relatable, cute, and wholesome anime that can be surprisingly hilarious. However, it’s definitely a romance not a rom-com. Featuring fantastic side characters, its well-executed drama and character development keep it engaging. Despite adapting not even half of the manga, Season 3 is on the way. Sawako stands out as my favorite shoujo female character and one of my overall favorites in all of anime. She is just so precious.

Insomniacs After School became my favorite romance, its just feels so natural to watch the story unfold.

Fruit Basket Great Story Awesome Music And One Of The Best Ending To Romantic Anime Ever There I Said It

1. Tsuki ga Kirei (So simple, so pure, so wonderfully executed.)

2. Kimi no Na Wa (A normie choice for sure, but it delivers where it counts)

3. White Album 2 (I'm twisted, I know, but it's the best damn love triangle I've seen.)

4. Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai (A sentimental favorite as it was the gateway show to me embracing my weebness.)

5. Tamako Love Story (While the preceding series gets a "good try, KyoAni." from me, this one just hits it out of the park.)

Honorable Mentions (no particular order):

• I love Kaguya-sama, but I consider it more of a romance-themed comedy than a straight-up romance (For now - let's see what S3 brings us.)

• Kokoro Connect has an interesting set-up and colorful characters, but I have some issues with the execution of some story bits.

• 5 Centimeters per Second is a little too real and was a little too rough around the edges for my soft, soft heart.

• Horimiya was lovely and sweet, but the anime adaptation was a little disjointed in its execution. The manga is a better experience.

• Just Because! - Quiet, deliberate, atmospheric, real. Saddled with the dumbest plot contrivance I have ever seen.

• (Love is Like) After the Rain - This one goes places you might not expect. A real love story without a romance. An affirming message. Beautiful visuals and music.

I can vouch for "Angel next door spoils me rotten"... My favourite rom anime to date. Can't wait for S2. I will have to check the other one out though.

Edit: I HIGHLY recommend Insomniacs After School. Just started it but oh boy is it wholesome.

This is 100% niche but I fucking loved My Little Monster (tonari no kaibutsu-kun). Mostly because I’m a big stem nerd and this anime deals with studying/school.

As for guilty pleasures... Amnesia. For all the wrong reasons.

Clannad + Clannad after story. The feelings in after story just feels real and I can't imagine how people who have tp go through something like that feel.

Honourable mention to {Bloom Into You} though I'd honestly recommend the manga more as the anime only adapts half of it and it's the latter half where it really shines. It is definitely one of the best yuri romances out there.

this, and it's not even close. every single episode in season 2 and most in the second half of S1 evoke more emotion and have more meaningful personal and romantic progress than most romance anime's final episodes.

it's unfortunate the first 3 episodes being bad (MC's "low" starting point and cringe/gross classmates) turned a lot of people off of it

{ReLIFE} (don't miss the 4 OVAs after S1) I love this for a lot of reasons other than the romance, but I also really loved the romance in it.

{Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai} (not at all like what the name suggests) great banter and chemistry + they actually trust each other and talk about and resolve problems/misunderstandings like normal people.

{Your Name.} (amazing romance movie)

{Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia} (insomniacs after school) very natural romance, very little "typical anime bullshit" - one of my favorites because of that.
