What Redditors are Saying

When it comes to finding the best e-bike for a tall individual, particularly someone who is 6'8", there are several considerations and recommendations that can guide your decision. Here’s a breakdown based on discussions from various forums:

Frame Size and Fit

For very tall riders, frame size is one of the most critical factors. Many standard bikes may not fit comfortably, as they often max out at XL sizes, which typically accommodate up to around 6'5" [2:1][3:3]. However, some brands like Canyon offer XXL sizes that might be suitable for taller individuals [2:5][2:11]. It's important to test ride these bikes if possible, as even slight differences in geometry can significantly affect comfort.

Specific Brand Recommendations

Several brands and models have been recommended for taller riders. The Santa Cruz Hightower LT in XXL has been highlighted as a good option by a 6'7" rider [3:2]. Specialized offers the Creo in XXL, which is designed for riders between 6'2" and 6'9" [5:6]. Additionally, Dirtysixer specializes in bikes for very tall people, although they are noted to be quite expensive [2:7].

Customization and Adjustments

For those unable to find an off-the-shelf bike that fits perfectly, customization might be necessary. This could involve adjusting the seat post height or swapping out stems to better suit your body dimensions [1:5][2:9]. However, it's generally advised that a bike purpose-built for taller riders will provide a better riding experience than trying to modify a smaller frame [3:4].

Considerations Beyond Size

While size is crucial, other factors such as the type of riding you plan to do (commuting, fitness, trails) and your budget will also influence your choice. For instance, if you're looking for a commuter or fitness-oriented e-bike, consider models with larger wheels, like 29ers, which tend to be more comfortable for taller riders [5:2]. Additionally, ensuring the bike has a robust build quality and reliable components is essential for a smooth riding experience.

Final Recommendations

Given your height and the need for a specialized fit, exploring brands that cater specifically to tall riders, like Dirtysixer, or considering custom builds might be worthwhile investments. If budget constraints exist, seeking out models with XXL frames from brands like Santa Cruz or Specialized could provide a balance between fit and cost. Always prioritize test-riding potential options to ensure comfort and suitability before making a purchase.

Which laptops are best for PEC freshers in 2025? Here’s a breakdown 👇

Posted by Saatvik2006 · in r/PECChd · 1 month ago

Hey everyone, Since a lot of juniors have been DM’ing me about which laptop to buy for college, I thought I’d drop a quick guide here. I also wrote a full detailed breakdown on my blog (with specs, pros/cons, and price ranges) — link at the end.

When you’re starting out in college, your laptop choice really depends on what you’ll actually use it for:

For notes, assignments, and basic coding → A thin & light laptop without a GPU (like HP Pavilion 14 or Dell Inspiron 15) is more than enough. They’re lightweight, have good battery life, and usually come with MS Office pre-installed. Perfect for non-tech branches or if you don’t plan on doing heavy stuff.

For gaming, video editing, 3D modelling, or ML model training → You’ll need a dedicated GPU. Options like HP Victus or ASUS TUF Gaming A15 are solid budget gaming laptops. They’re heavier but way more powerful, so if you see yourself working on projects involving AI/ML, simulations, or CAD software, a GPU laptop will save you headaches later.

For students who want something super portable & reliable → MacBook Air M1 is still one of the best picks. Insane battery life, very lightweight, and perfect for CSE/IT students who are into programming, app development, or design work. Downside: not ideal for AAA gaming.

Balanced options → Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 and Acer Aspire 5 give you the best of both worlds — good performance, portability, and fair pricing for students.

💡 General advice:

If you’re in CSE/IT/ECE → consider something with at least 16GB RAM + SSD.

If you’re in Mech/Civil → go for a GPU laptop if you’ll use AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or simulations.

If you’re in non-tech branches → save money and get a thin & light laptop without GPU.

For a more detailed breakdown with prices, weight, and full specs comparison table, I’ve written a complete blog post here: 👉 Best laptops for college students

Hope this helps freshers make a smarter choice before investing!

Yes the power sockets are available everywhere.

No the laptops aren't required in classes.

Best Laptop for a College Freshman 2025? Need Reliable Student Laptop Recommendations [Budget $800–$1,200, US]

Posted by mimamolletje · in r/SuggestALaptop · 1 month ago

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
$800–$1,200, US

Are you open to refurbs/used?
Prefer new, but open to refurbished laptops if they’re a great value for students

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Battery life and build quality are top priority for college use, followed by performance; ultrabook or slim laptop style preferred

How important is weight and thinness to you?
Very important — I’ll be carrying it between classes and around campus daily, so a lightweight laptop is a must

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
13–15 inches for portability and comfort

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Primarily note-taking, research, online classes, and streaming, plus light Adobe Photoshop and Premiere work

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Not a gaming laptop priority, but light indie or casual games at medium settings would be fine

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Reliable build, comfortable keyboard for long writing sessions, responsive touchpad; touchscreen optional

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I’m looking for the best laptop for a college freshman that can last through all four years without constant repairs. Strong battery life for all-day use, portability, and durability are essential. I’ve seen student laptop recommendations like the MacBook Air, Dell XPS, and Lenovo ThinkPad, but I’d love to hear from people who’ve used them in real college settings.

Since a reliable build and portability is a big factor, I would suggest a Lenovo T14. It is very portable at 2.9 pounds and has a battery life of around 10 hours doing general tasks like schoolwork. These T series laptops are especially durable and has great reliability. If you have any questions lmk :)

Since you prioritize battery life, and build quality, and you are going to need good CPU and GPU for video editing , and gaming, I would recommend Acer Swift X 4060 because of the following :

Specs:

  • Screen: 14.5" OLED 2880 x 1800 120Hz Calman Verified
  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 Processor 155H which is very powerful and you care about performance.
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060
  • Ram: 16GB LPDDR5X
  • Storage: 1TB SSD

Why I am recommending it:

  • Powerful GPU in small form factor, 14 inch laptops with powerful GPU are rare breed, and this config/model hits a great balance between the two.

  • High-Quality Display*: This features a OLED 2880 x 1800 120Hz which is better resolution display, providing vibrant colors and sharp visuals.

  • Long battery life as it lasts for around 12hours *Very good GPU and CPU for Adobe Photoshop and Premiere.

  • Lightweight as it weighs 3lbs , so it matches your request of portability.

  • Premium build quality and material which ensures longevity and you care about build quality.

A newer series macbook pro (with additional storage if you need) should be great in performance, for editing/photography, and for a pretty good number of games too. Unless you have very windows-specifc games you might want to dive into!

Lenovo LOQ if you want to combine both an aesthetic MacBook like style and RTX 3050 6gb vram of a gpu which is going to be more than enough for you demands

If you want a pure performance laptop with multitasking capability, crazy gaming compatibility and good cooling go for the Asus TUF a15 but the design is not as clean as the MacBook or the Lenovo LOQ

There are not many laptops on the market that can give you both the gaming power you want to be a workhorse and are also slim/lightweight enough and have the battery power to be your studying workhorse. Any laptops that do satisfy both tend to have some drawbacks: almost always thermals because of the limitations of physics lol as well as huge prices.

If price is no object then Razer and similar competitor laptops probably make the most sense. If price is an object grab a last gen model of these used on /r/hardwareswap.

FWIW I survived college with a separate surface pro for classes and a real gaming desktop for fun, and I think that’s the way to go tbh.

DiamondDepth_YT · 3 months ago

Yeah, separate devices are the way.

One for locking in on studying with little distractions (a macbook and it's crazy battery life, for example), and one for playing games in your free time (a gaming desktop or separate laptop, maybe even a handheld like the steamdeck). It will end up being less of a hassle down the line, you'll be able to focus, and it may even end up being cheaper, since getting a device that does all of OP's wants is definitely gonna be costly.

The way to go all day everyday. I’ve owned probably 20 different computers in my life at this point across all generations since Skylake and it is always convenient to have an extra device to cover one use case vs another. We’re just not there yet in tech to give us a laptop that can be a true desktop replacement for superusers while also giving us great portable battery life for mobile productivity. Though we are getting close!

Totally feel you—laptop shopping without a tech background feels like trying to order food in a language you don’t speak. “RAM? SSD? i7? Is this a laptop or a spaceship?”

First off, for school work, assignments, and note-taking, you definitely don’t need to spend a full ₹1L. That’s like using a Ferrari to go grocery shopping. Nice, but unnecessary (unless you're also planning to do video editing, 3D modeling, or become a part-time hacker).

Here’s the sweet spot:

  • ₹45K–₹65K gets you a really solid machine for school stuff, online classes, and even light multitasking or a bit of Netflix.
  • Look for something with at least 8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, and an i5/Ryzen 5 processor. No need to chase i7s or fancy gaming GPUs unless you’re into gaming or heavy software use.

I put together a chill, no-jargon guide just for students like you that breaks it down simply (and includes some affordable recommendations that won't roast your dad’s wallet):
👉 Best Laptop for Gaming, Students, and Everything In Between

Hope this clears up the chaos a bit—and congrats on starting uni! 🎓✌️

I pre-ordered the Lenovo Yoga 9i 2 in 1 Aura Edition 2025. I haven't used it yet, but I looked for a few days and decided on this one. I get a free laptop through a grant every 4 years because of my disability. I chose this one due to Lunar Lake having better battery life and it has an OLED touch screen with 500 nits and a nice keyboard and track pad. It's also light weight and I dont need it for gaming but it is capable for light gaming.

Which Laptop Is Best for Students and Gaming in 2025? - Need your help

Posted by Forward-Classic7795 · in r/Laptop_PC_Help · 8 months ago

I’m looking for recommendations for a new laptop in 2025, and I have two needs: one for study and productivity and another for gaming. Ideally, I’d love to find one that can handle both, but I’m open to separate suggestions.

For a student laptop, I need something lightweight with great battery life (8+ hours) and strong enough to handle tools like Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and light creative work. My budget is around $800–$1200.

For a gaming laptop, I’m looking for good performance with a dedicated GPU (RTX 4060 or better) and a high refresh rate screen. My budget here is around $1500–$2000. Portability is a bonus, but cooling is important for long sessions.

Some models I’ve been considering:

Student: MacBook Air (M3), Dell XPS 13 Gaming: Asus ROG Zephyrus G16, Alienware x14 Does anyone have experience with these or other suggestions? Any models that balance both study and gaming would also be awesome.

Great question! The MacBook Air (M3) is best for students seeking lightweight design and long battery life, while the Dell XPS 13 is ideal for versatile productivity on a budget. For gaming, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 and Alienware x14 shine with powerful GPUs and smooth performance. If you want a balance of both, consider the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro or Razer Blade 15, which combine productivity and gaming prowess. Let us know what you choose—I’d love to hear how it works for you!

Why These Are Better:

  • The MacBook Air (M3) is perfect for portability and long study sessions, thanks to its lightweight build and exceptional battery life.
  • The Dell XPS 13 combines versatility, a great display, and reliability, ideal for productivity needs on a budget.
  • The Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 offers high-end gaming performance with an RTX 4060 GPU and effective cooling for extended gaming sessions.
  • The Alienware x14 is compact and portable while delivering excellent gaming performance, great for gamers on the go.
  • The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro strikes a perfect balance between gaming and productivity, handling multitasking effortlessly.
  • The Razer Blade 15 blends sleek design with top-notch gaming and work capabilities, making it versatile for dual purposes.

Each of these laptops excels in its category, so your choice depends on whether you prioritize portability, gaming power, or a balance of both. Whichever you choose, it’s clear that these models deliver excellent value and performance for their respective purposes. Let us know your pick—I’m excited to hear what works best for you!

Thank you so much for the detailed recommendations!  The additional options like the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro and Razer Blade 15 sound amazing, especially for balancing study and gaming. I did come across some reviews mentioning a potential drawback with these models—like the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro being a bit heavier for portability and the Razer Blade 15 having slightly higher temperatures during extended gaming sessions. Do you think these concerns are significant, or do the performance benefits outweigh them? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

1 upvotes on reddit
ryni_abella · 8 months ago

You’re absolutely right!  These are valid concerns, and here’s why these issues might arise with these laptops:

  1. Lenovo Legion 5 Pro: The weight is primarily due to its robust build quality, larger chassis, and advanced cooling system. These features ensure durability and efficient performance during intensive tasks, but they do add to its heft. If portability is a key concern, this might be something to weigh against its excellent performance capabilities.
  2. Razer Blade 15: The higher temperatures are a result of its slim design paired with powerful hardware. Packing an RTX 4060 or higher into a thin chassis can create thermal constraints, especially during extended gaming or rendering sessions. Razer’s vapor chamber cooling system helps manage this, but it’s worth noting if you often game for long hours.

Lenovo are terrific! Try to go for the thinkpad over the ideapad if you can

Absolutely, Lenovo makes excellent laptops! Both the ThinkPad and IdeaPad lines cater to different needs, and your recommendation to prioritize the ThinkPad is spot on for certain scenarios. Here’s a breakdown to help clarify:

  1. ThinkPad Series:
    • Renowned for durability, build quality, and keyboard excellence, making them a favorite among professionals and students alike.
    • Designed with business users in mind, ThinkPads (like the X1 Carbon or T-series) offer enterprise-level security features, great battery life, and robust performance, which are ideal for students juggling coursework and internships or those in demanding fields like computer science or engineering.
    • Often pricier than IdeaPads, but the longevity and quality justify the cost if your budget allows.
  2. IdeaPad Series:
    • Aimed more at everyday consumers, IdeaPads like the Flex series are versatile, budget-friendly, and feature-rich for casual use, multimedia, and light productivity.
    • The 2-in-1 designs, touchscreens, and lightweight builds make them perfect for students who value portability and flexibility in switching between tablet and laptop modes.
    • While they may not have the same rugged build as ThinkPads, they provide excellent value, especially for users not needing advanced security or extensive customization options.

My Take:

If you’re someone who values longevity, premium quality, and ruggedness, investing in a ThinkPad is a smart move. But for those prioritizing versatility on a budget, the IdeaPad is a fantastic option—especially for general student use or creative tasks like note-taking and presentations.

It really comes down to individual needs and priorities—both series shine in their respective categories.  Let me know if you’d like more insights on specific models or specs!

I’m also in the market for the best student laptop in 2025. I’ve been eyeing the Dell XPS 13 Plus for its OLED display and sleek design, but the HP Pavilion Aero 13 seems like a solid budget-friendly option too. Does anyone have hands-on experience with either of these? Open to more suggestions as well!

I am in the market for a new laptop. I was looking at Dell 7450 and XPS 14." I will purchase 3 year warranty as well. I will be using this laptop overseas. Dell has the best tech support. Portability is important. I might go for a 15" laptop, but nothing heavier than that. I will use it for productivity and occasional light gaming. I am in no rush and can wait. When is the best time to buy a laptop and where can I find Dell coupons. Thanks for your input.

I’ve been debating between the Microsoft Surface Laptop 6 and the Acer Swift X 14. I love the idea of a touchscreen for note-taking, but the Swift X’s discrete GPU could be great for light gaming after classes. Any thoughts on which might be better for a student lifestyle?

Given your needs and budget, I'd recommend considering the Dell XPS 15. It's a solid choice for engineering students because it combines high performance with a durable build, which is great for running demanding software like AutoCAD without any hiccups. It features a powerful Intel Core processor and has enough RAM to handle multitasking smoothly. Plus, it's within your budget range, especially if you catch it on sale. Alternatively, the Lenovo ThinkPad P series also offers excellent performance with professional-grade graphics, which might be perfect for your construction management tasks. Both options should serve you well

Thanks for the insights on the Microsoft Surface Laptop 6! The touchscreen really does seem like a big plus for note-taking and classwork. However, I'm also quite interested in the Acer Swift X 14 for its discrete GPU, as I enjoy light gaming and might get into video editing. I appreciate the point about the Surface's build quality and its suitability for campus life, but I'm now wondering if I might be missing out on the versatility that the Swift X could offer with its better graphics capabilities. It’s a tough choice because while the robustness and touchscreen of the Surface are appealing for my studies, the extra performance of the Swift X could be beneficial for my hobbies and creative projects. Any further thoughts on whether the Swift’s GPU advantage outweighs the Surface's touchscreen convenience for a student who’s also a casual gamer?

best laptops for students 2024

Key Considerations for Choosing a Laptop for Students in 2024

  1. Performance: Look for laptops with at least an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 processor for smooth multitasking and handling demanding applications.

  2. RAM: Aim for a minimum of 8GB of RAM. If you plan to run multiple applications simultaneously or use resource-heavy software, consider 16GB.

  3. Storage: SSDs (Solid State Drives) are preferable for faster boot times and file access. A minimum of 256GB SSD is recommended, but 512GB is ideal for storing larger files.

  4. Battery Life: Choose a laptop with at least 8-10 hours of battery life to last through classes and study sessions without needing a charge.

  5. Portability: A lightweight and slim design is beneficial for students who need to carry their laptops around campus.

  6. Display Quality: A Full HD (1920x1080) display is recommended for clear visuals, especially for reading and multimedia tasks.

Top Recommendations for 2024:

  1. Apple MacBook Air (M2):

    • Pros: Excellent performance, long battery life (up to 18 hours), lightweight design, and great build quality.
    • Cons: Higher price point.
  2. Dell XPS 13:

    • Pros: Sleek design, powerful performance, and stunning display.
    • Cons: Can be expensive, especially with higher specs.
  3. HP Pavilion x360:

    • Pros: 2-in-1 versatility, good performance, and affordable price.
    • Cons: Battery life is decent but not the best in class.
  4. Lenovo IdeaPad 3:

    • Pros: Budget-friendly, solid performance, and good keyboard.
    • Cons: Build quality is not as premium as higher-end models.
  5. ASUS ZenBook 14:

    • Pros: Lightweight, good battery life, and solid performance.
    • Cons: Limited ports compared to some competitors.

Recommendation: For a balance of performance, portability, and battery life, the Apple MacBook Air (M2) is an excellent choice if your budget allows. If you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 provides great value without compromising too much on performance.
