TL;DR
Lenovo ThinkPad
The Lenovo ThinkPad is highly recommended for business use due to its power and reliability. It is particularly favored by developers for its durability and excellent keyboard [5:1],
[5:4]. The ThinkPad series is known for not breaking the bank while providing solid performance, making it a popular choice among business owners who need a dependable machine for everyday tasks.
Dell XPS
Dell's XPS lineup is praised for its rugged design and suitability for business applications. It's especially recommended for those in finance or accounting due to its compatibility with Excel and other Windows-based software [4:2]. However, potential buyers should research battery health, as some users have reported issues over time
[4:2].
Apple MacBook Pro/Air
MacBooks are favored for their seamless ecosystem and sleek design. They are often chosen by creative professionals and entrepreneurs who value aesthetics and integration across devices [5:2]. The MacBook Air M4 is noted for its portability and performance, making it a good option for those on the go
[5:7].
Acer Predator
While not a traditional business laptop, the Acer Predator has been used effectively by video producers for editing and heavy lifting tasks [5:3]. Its robust performance makes it suitable for creative professionals who require high processing power, although users should be aware of potential battery degradation over time
[5:3].
Processor Considerations
For those looking into specific technical specifications, Ryzen processors are recommended for their performance and efficiency. A Ryzen 5000 or newer processor is suggested for optimal performance [4:3]. Additionally, Intel CPUs are known for their low power budget efficiency, which is beneficial for laptops
[3:3].
In summary, when selecting a business laptop for 2024, consider your specific needs—whether it's reliability, performance, or ecosystem integration—and choose a model that aligns with those priorities.
I was recently reading some debate about Derek Carr and his tenure/legacy with the raiders, and I know there's a bit of debate about how good or decent of a qb he was vs the raiders defense performances during his tenure as qb. It got me thinking, which teams, since 2000, have had the overall best defenses and overall worst defenses in the league. Using Statmuse, I wanted to look up this answer based solely on total points allowed, because at the end of the day, the more points allowed, more losing games. So, top 5 best and worst defenses of the past quarter century roughly, in TPA
Top 5 best.
Top 5 worst
I knew the lions and raiders were bad, but 10,000 points over 25 seasons is nuts. That's over 400 points given up a season average.
Rams being one of the worst is surprising to me
They were pretty awful between the Martz and McVay eras.
so the 5th ranked Seahawks are closer to being ranked 29th than they are to the Ravens
It's crazy that 4th and 5th are basically as close to being in the 5 worst as they are to matching the Ravens and Steelers. Really puts into perspective just how consistently fuckin good their defenses have been, despite multiple changes of the guard now.
Both are actually closer to being in the 5 worst that’s wild
Helps to have Harbaugh and Tomlin coaching the majority of that time while having great coaches before them too
Yeah, the 2007-2011 Rams went 15-65, which was the worst 5 year stretch in NFL history until the mid-late 2010s Browns.
Still didn't expect to be bottom 5 though.
As a Lions fan, checks out.
The only solid defenses I remember are from 2000 and 2014. The rest were either shitty or historically shitty.
The Rams have been pretty good for almost a decade of McVay now and were still complete ass for about half time on this Earth

Gf got ap laptop with an ryzen 7 that is alrdy 2-3 yrs old.. and still absolutely crushes it performance wise… especially if you consider shes one of those people eho constantly got about 30 tabs open in her browser at all times… Also doing extremely well on battery life too. Cant say much about intel on mobile tho admittedly.
Intel's CPU architecture is fine tuned for operating in low power budgets, it is greatly superior in laptops.
Unfortunately, AMD's GPU architecture is waaaay beyond what Intel achieves, and we're more often GPU limited than CPU limited in a laptop.
ryzen in laptops is fantastic...theres nothing really bad about em to say, other than i wish more super low power configs existed. (like sub 10w stuff) because rn, my favorite device is my surface with snapdrsgon in it because of its battery life.
i wana see more competition in this area.
what’s the best laptop to get ss a buisness student?
If you are going into Finance/accounting I recommend a windows laptop. You’ll be using excel a lot, and a lot of excel functions don’t function the same on an apple computer as they do on a windows laptop.
I have a dell xps 15, and I’ve loved it but recently the battery has turned so shitty. Research battery health before getting anything as well, because you want it to ideally last you all day if needed in class
aw man i wanted an apple laptop😩 bur thank you ill look into dell laptop
Look for ryzen 5000 or newer processor. And make sure at least it's ryzen 5.
I got a surface laptop 7 13.8inch. Looks like a MacBook, but it’s got windows, excellent battery life, great 120hz display, and is pretty premium feeling too!
i’ll look into it tysm
Hey fellow business owners and entrepreneurs, what's your go-to laptop brand for running your business?
I’m diving deep into the tech choices that drive productivity and success in the workplace and I want to hear from you! Whether you swear by reliability, sleek design, performance or just what your IT team insists on, share your pick and why you chose it.
Is it MacBook’s seamless ecosystem? Dell’s rugged business lineup ? Lenovo's legendary keyboards? Or maybe something else entirely ?
- Does your laptop keep up with your busiest days ?
- Ever had a tech fail that made you switch brands ?
- What features do you wish your business laptop had ?
From Linux to macOs nowadays:
MBPro 16in - 48GB MBAir 15in - 24GB
I’m on a 2020 Acer Predator i7 - as a video producer it has been great for editing on site/to go and still does heavy lifting when building with replit.
Although battery is starting to go and prob getting a little bloaty.
Planning to get a new laptop in a year or so
Sounds like your Predator served you well!
Yes! Its literally been all over the world with me 😅
ThinkPad.
ThinkPad gang here too solid choice if you want power and reliability without breaking the bank. Still unmatched for dev work and durability 💪💻
Well, I'm using two desktops, two customized desktops, and one MacBook Air M4. That's for compiling, you know, mobile app, iOS. Yes, the customized one, they have 64 GB of RAM, you know, powerful CPU, and a hard disk that writes 7, I think it was 7 GB per second. I've got two of those desktops, one for researching, and one for cursor and cloud code. Yes, I don't just stick to just one laptop, you know, because you need power for a lot of things. You know, VSC with Claude Code or Cursor with CC their resource intensive. Go up to, you know, go for a big RAM, and things like that. so those are the things that I use.
Damn, that’s a serious setup respect. 🔥 Running VSC with Claude or Cursor definitely needs that kind of horsepower. Love that you've got dedicated machines for different workflows. Total productivity flex.
My setup at home: FYI:
Desktop 1: $5,500 AUD (Gaming beast Workstation) Desktop 2: $3,500 AUD (Secondary powerhouse) Mac M4 Air: $2,000 AUD (Portable) Mac M1 Mini: $520 AUD (Dev machine) Total: ~$11,520 AUD Plus KVM 4x2
but an expensive that something you can afford; you only cry once; where if you buy cheap, breaks all the time, you will cry a lot!
I’m wanting to do research into what the most commonly used business laptops are in workplace settings just to see what is popular and what isn’t.
Lenovo ThinkPad every single time. Practical and built like tanks.
Louis Rossman the Apple fixing guy on YouTube showed a comparison of how a good laptop should be built (MacBook aren't it). But he has Lenovo and I've been convinced ever since.
I’ve had thinkpads I don’t run a business the batteries would stop charging quickly out of 4 of them 1 works and the repair store told me the frame is warped tho it looks like it isn’t i still like them tho keyboards are great than any other laptop I’ve tried
My whole team runs on Lenovo thinkpads
Awesome really good laptops I’ve used a few
Lenovo. Their think pads last a long time and can be beat around a reasonable amount.
And they're very compatible with Linux.
+1
Apple. MacBook Pro.
Mix of thinkpads and MacBooks.
I’m curious, why do you need multiple laptops?
Let’s say you need to run a windows POS application on windows and have access to email for front desk employees thinkpad t480 has Ethernet port and is cheap to replace if broken. As a manager who needs longer battery and have lots of things open at the same time you want base MacBook pro. If you don’t need windows for some specific app MacBook Pro just the best laptop for pretty much any task especially if you have an iPhone and aiprods etc. I work as integration specialist and I have thinkpad where I dual boot fedora and windows 11 because my clients work with windows apps mainly. I also have MacBook Air m1 for internet browsing and because I want to know how to use macOS. macOS for productivity. Windows pc for industry specific software. Linux nerds.
I’m thinking some parts of the team e.g. developers, engineers and cybersecurity or things that run heavy resources will need higher spec laptops. People that don’t use resource heavy applications can do with the thinkpads.
Best mix
Looking to buy a professional business laptop that gives me best bang for buck. I don't travel that much for business so it doesn't need to be super light but still needs to be small and light enough to use on train, plane, etc.
Looking at the p14s gen 6 and can get this spec for £1185 new. Is that a good deal?
I run windows 11 and multitask across Outlook about 5 different spreadsheets at anyone time, PowerPoint, word, about 10 to 15 browser tabs, teams calls with sometimes up to 20 to 30 people, etc.
AMD Ryzen™ AI 7 PRO 350 Processor (2.00 GHz up to 5.00 GHz) 32 GB DDR5-5600MT/s (SODIMM) 512 GB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 Performance TLC Opal 14" WUXGA (1920 x 1200), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, 100%sRGB, 500 nits, 60Hz, Low Power 5MP RGB+IR with Microphone and Privacy Shutter Smart Card Reader 4 Cell Rechargeable Li-ion 57Wh 65W USB-C Wall Mount Nano GaN 90% PCC
Any other recommendations (even, i dare say... other brands?)? Is this overkill? I'm looking for something that will last a decent amount of time.
Thanks!
This is very overkill, just buy some used t,p, x, yoga.
From gen10 they are the beasts, just get 16gb ram or greater.
That's all.
That will be around 500 pounds, no more
Thanks. I was going to buy new because lenovo is running a sale now and the p14s gen 6 is about the same price as a refurbished g5. I was going to p14s as I can upgrade it as time goes on. Looking for best band for buck over the long run. What would you suggest with that in mind?
I would suggest to buy anything used, in example X1 yoga gen6, which will give you more ram and options ( in example sim card for always-on connectivity.
Battery will last you solid 7 hours of such multitasking.
But if you really want something new, then stick to p14s, great machine
Additionally P14s usually has more aggressive boost/power settings, which usually means shorter battery life.
Standard T14, maybe T14s would probably work better here..
If you want a smaller footprint, I’d probably look at X13/L13 as well (these should be your smallest options available - they also may have nicer gear onboard, too..)
Thanks. Is there a way to change the boost settings to improve battery life? Didn't really want to go t14s route as cant upgrade ram.
Don't need anything smaller. I have an hp envy 13 at the moment and the p14s is about a cm bigger, same thickness and 200g heavier. Also x13 soldered ram right?
So I’m running the P14s Gen 5 intel with the dedicated gpu.
I consistently have these open and running at the same time :
3 spreadsheets, two teams accounts (I have 3 jobs) , 2 outlook email accounts(one through app the other through web) and a private email account, two corporate system accounts along with generally 5 Microsoft docs at the same time and multiple pdf bundles pulled up too. I have two separate phone systems I use (one is cornxa app and the other is Google voice through web)I have a lot of screen real estate so most of that is always visible except for minimized word docs I have running. I also have a pdf editor and design/estimating software on the actual laptop screen (minimizing one and pulling back up the other one through out the day)
I said all that to say this. My p14s g5 intel was the best business decision I’ve ever made. Never once had it shown any lag—the things a firecracker
Thanks for this. Sounds like me! Do you have any issues with it? Like overheating and fan noise? I have and hp envy 13 right now and the fan kicks in when I start running multiple apps and gets really hot. Hence the need for the upgrade..
My fan never kicks on— even when I’m running the 3D design software along with everything else I mentioned. I specifically went for the intel version of the gen 5 because I was told it ran cooler than the amd for this specific model.

Here’s a great video that compares the two
2011 X220... but that's always my answer for everything. With 16GB RAM.
Thanks but need reliability. They are quite old now aren't they? Do they support win 11?
No they don't. I was just being a silly obsessive as people who love their x220s are cultish we are. I have not bought a laptop that's been made since 2012. I have a dozen with Linux Mint installed on them. It's an obsession.
Thanks. T14 quite a bit more expensive otherwise probably would go that route but they are the same size and about 200g different in weight so not sure there's any point.
Are you searching for the best laptops of 2025? Finding the right laptop is essential be it for gaming, work, or casual use. I’ve spent time with some of the top rated laptops, putting them through their paces.
Here are my top picks for best laptop 2025:
Let's look at each of them!
This laptop is a fantastic pick for those who need an affordable yet capable device. The AMD Ryzen 3 7320U processor and AMD Radeon graphics handle everyday tasks smoothly. I was particularly impressed with its 15.6” Full HD IPS display—the colors are sharp and vibrant, making it great for casual media consumption.
The lightweight design made it easy to carry around, and the thermal improvements kept it cool during long sessions. It’s not built for heavy gaming or professional editing, but for students and professionals who need a reliable, budget-friendly option, this laptop delivers.
The Lenovo V15 surprised me with its balance of power and portability. Featuring 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, it’s a multitasking beast. Running multiple browser tabs, Excel sheets, and even light photo editing was a breeze.
The anti-glare 15.6” Full HD display is easy on the eyes, though it doesn’t match the vibrancy of higher-end options. While the Intel Celeron processor is decent for basic tasks, it’s not ideal for gaming or resource-heavy applications. However, the massive storage and RAM make it a fantastic choice for business professionals or students juggling multiple projects.
The new MacBook Air with the M3 chip is a powerhouse in a slim package. Apple’s 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display is absolutely stunning, and the 16GB of unified memory ensures apps run smoothly, no matter how many are open.
I loved the 18-hour battery life—it genuinely lasted me through an entire workday and then some. Whether I was editing photos, writing, or just streaming, it handled everything flawlessly. Plus, if you’re already in the Apple ecosystem, the seamless integration with iPhone and iPad is unbeatable. It’s on the pricier side, but the build quality and performance make it worth every penny.
The HP 255 G10 is a versatile machine, especially for those on a budget. Powered by the AMD Ryzen 3 7330U processor, it performs well for both work and light entertainment. The 15.6” Full HD display is bright and crisp, and the 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD provide plenty of power for multitasking.
One thing I appreciated was how lightweight and portable it felt despite its larger screen size. Whether it’s browsing, light editing, or streaming, this laptop offers a solid experience without breaking the bank.
If gaming is your priority, look no further than the ASUS ROG Strix G16. This laptop is a beast, packing an Intel Core i7-13650HX processor and NVIDIA RTX 4060 GPU. Games ran buttery smooth on the 16” FHD 165Hz display, and the Pantone-validated panel is perfect for vibrant visuals.
The cooling system is a standout feature, keeping the laptop from overheating during marathon gaming sessions. With 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB SSD, loading times are practically nonexistent. It’s on the heavier side, but that’s a small trade-off for the power it delivers.
Final Thoughts
After testing these laptops, I can confidently say each has its own strengths. For budget-conscious users, the Acer Aspire 3 and HP 255 G10 are excellent options. If you’re a creative professional or love sleek designs, the MacBook Air M3 is unbeatable. The Lenovo V15 is perfect for business users who need multitasking power, and for gamers, the ASUS ROG Strix G16 is the ultimate choice.
How is the best budget more expensive than the best overall?
yea something not tracking. Personal experience though i’d never go near a cheap acer
Great stuff! Thank you.
Thanks for this
cfbr
Great break down, Thanks for this!
Am I reading correct that my best budget/bang for my buck is still around $750/800CAD?
Looking for clarity incase I missed one. Not hatin.
Hey all, need a laptop that I plan to use for work/business. My IT department is absolutely against Apple products or a Macbook pro would be the easiest choice in the world.
Overall this will be my device for when I have to travel, if i want to work somewhere other than my home office (I do this a lot).
Thank you in advance!
Based off of what you are looking for I can recommend the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12, HP Elite Dragonfly G5, Dell XPS 14, or the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Gen 9.
I agree with this comment! I had the exact same requirements. And it really came down to the below two:
Dell XPS 14/15 Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i
I ended up choosing the Lenovo, cause I felt it had more bang for the buck and better service center ecosystem.
I actually had the XPS 13 from 2023 for about 3 months. The small screen was horrible to work with + the performance of it degraded heavily when utilizing multiple applications.
Definitely considering the Yoga Pro 9i as you guys have mentioned.
Just got a Lenovo Yoga this week. Very fond of it so far.
The Dell Inspiron was great until suddenly it wasn't, then wouldn't hold a charge despite buying two brand-new batteries (thought the first one might've been bad, was too late to return, no humans in customer service, ordered another, also didn't work.) Even when plugged in, would run out immediately, now it won't turn on at all. Sigh. Lasted five years.
bro, if you are looking for easy travel and lightweight , so you can also go with MSI Prestige 14 is a great option.
I second the recommendations for a ThinkPad X1 Carbon.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, newest one sits at around £2 400 iirc. Fits your needs and your price.
Have this one in consideration, thanks for the reply!
If you're looking for a laptop for business purposes and need to perform multitasking,I think an MSI laptop could be a great choice. It handles business applications well and has a sleek look that I really like.
What is the best laptop you could buy this 2025? Planning to use it for work. Your suggestions are appreciated.
