General Loadout Recommendations
For a versatile loadout that works well across many bosses, the combination of Spread and Roundabout shots, Super Art 1, and Smoke Bomb is highly recommended [1:1]. This setup allows players to deal significant damage while maintaining mobility with the smoke bomb. However, it's important to adjust your loadout based on specific boss challenges, as some fights may require different strategies
[1:4].
Plane Levels
In plane levels, Coffee is preferred over Smoke Bomb because the dash ability is replaced by shrink, making the smoke bomb ineffective [1:2]. The default shooter is generally recommended, as focusing on aiming bombs can restrict movement and increase vulnerability
[1:4].
Boss-Specific Strategies
Different bosses may require unique loadouts. For example, Lobber is considered effective against Grim Matchstick and Rumor Honeybottoms due to its high damage without needing close proximity [1:6]. Additionally, Crackshot and Chaser are useful in certain phases or bosses like Saltbaker, where farming EX cards and clearing obstacles quickly is crucial
[2:1].
Speedrunning Perspective
For speedrunning, Ms. Chalice is often chosen for her abilities, paired with Lobber/Spread or Charge/Spread shots [4:1]
[4:3]. The third super is favored for its coverage and damage output
[4:2].
Expert Mode and High Ranks
Achieving high ranks like S on expert mode requires adapting your loadout depending on the boss. While a general set like Charge and Spread with Super Art I and Smoke Bomb works for most bosses, adjustments may be necessary for perfection [5:1]. For normal gameplay, this loadout is effective, but expert mode demands more flexibility
[5:1].
These recommendations should help you tailor your loadout to maximize effectiveness across various scenarios in Cuphead.
I don't have every weapon or charm but atm I'm using Spread and Roundabout, Super art 1 and Smoke Bomb, they work pretty good.
Your current loadout is perfect. Roundabout, spread, SA1 and smoke bomb is the setup I've always used and worked great. But often many bosses require a unique setup, also plane levels always need coffee instead of smoke bomb
Thanks, I didn't actually think about changing my loadout for plane levels, that will most likely help
Yes, basically for plane levels you want to set coffee because smoke bomb has no effect (since dash is switched with the shrink) and other perks are less useful

Charge shot, spread, invincibility super, smoke dash
There are a few bosses where Super Art 1 is better. When you're learning a boss and for some run and gun stages chaser is useful. On some really chaotic boss fights chaser isn't a bad alternative but the damage is a bit weak, and more time spent on the boss is usually more bad RNG.
On plane levels just go with the default shooter, the bomb is rarely useful other than a handful of stages. If you focus on aiming those bombs, your movement is often restricted in a way that makes you either vulnerable to getting hit, or missing out completely on damage.
As a general rule fire and forget is always good unless the boss or level feels more predictable and less RNG to you. This is why you always want something like spread shot or chaser where you just have primary fire held down.
Unless you are going for achievements, auto parry isn't needed. Smoke dash gives you very valuable invincibility frames that helps you deal with bad RNG better.
The choice of my super is also about avoiding bad RNG. I found it impossible to beat some bosses unless I used invincibility supers on them.
Mine would be the same, except I use super art 2 because I am not comfortable with the stationary character while using super art 1.
True but you can set yourself up if you know the moves. I hated super art 2 cause I'd always be in a bad spot when it ends and I'd get hit.
Well, we all have our own preferences
I'll try that too, to see how it works.
I think lobber is an underrated weapon. If does damage close to spread without having to get as close. I use it with moving platform bosses like Grim Matchstick and that bee queen.
Charge shot and spread worked for me. Used the same super and smoke bomb

The best loadout for most fights is charge spread and whetstone but there is a bit of lobber chalice and super art 3 sprinkled in
Jeez. Look at all the converges. I 200% the game without the dlc with my little boy. Then we got the dlc and for whatever reason the dude that gives you 3 coins only did it on mine and my son's profile and not my solo profile. I just assumed converge would be the worst of the 3 weapons and chose not to get it. Now I can't. I guess I'm gonna have to replay the entire game and hope it doesn't do it again.
I'm proud of my Saltbaker loadout: Crackshot, Chaser, No SA, Heart Ring.
The idea being: on phase 1 you farm EX cards to the max (No SA so that you can EX at max) for phase 2, then you spam EX missiles to clear the saltshakers. Crackshot phase 1 and 2, Chaser 3 and 4.
Would Ms. Chalice be the best?
I used the divine relic and super 2
Im just looking for in a speed running perspective Best character: Best shot: Best shot 2: Best super: Best charm:
Chalice with roundabout and crackshot with her third super
Second one is better
If you can't dodge sure. But if you're good at dodging and not getting hit then the coverage and damage of the third is meow preferable
If you’re speed running then use either lobber spread or charge spread. I don’t equip any supers. And chalice is definitely the best. I just started to speed run this and I use chalice with lobber/spread and no super.
Check out the you tuber grondious… he has some speed running tutorials that helped me out.
Agora eu zero
I am trying to 100 percent cuphead and I would want to know what the best weapons and charms are for each boss on s rank. Thanks in advance. ( i have the dlc)
i've found that crackshot and chaser + Ms chalice is free saltbaker S rank. just use crackshot the whole fight and switch to chaser for the last phase (crackshot will miss). use the invincibility roll to bullshit the jumping fires and just about anything you want and thats it. Also you can duck in phase 3 with the spinning salt statue people thingies and their kicks wont hit you as far out as they do normally.
Crackshot and roundabout for guns, but the rest really depends on preference
I think you mean 300% then, rather than 100%, since you're aiming for S ranking
edit: this is false
S-ranks aren’t required for 300%.
Yes... They are
edit: also false
Yea I guess lol
Here's a very long list of what I use for each boss:
The Root Pack: Roundabout, crackshot, heart ring, super 1
Goopy: Lobber, roundabout, heart Ring, super 1
Hilda: Heart Ring
Cagney: Crackshot, Roundabout, Astral Cookie, super 3
R&C: Crackshot, Lobber, Astral Cookie, Super 2/3
BVBB: Crackshot, Roundabout, Astral Cookie, Super 3
Beppi: Lobber, Roundabout, Heart Ring, Super 3
Djimmi: Heart Ring
Grim Matchstick: Lobber, Roundabout, Heart Ring, Super 2
Wally: Heart Ring
Rumor Honeybottoms: Crackshot, Lobber, Astral Cookie, Super 3
Captain Brineybeard: Crackshot, Roundabout, Astral Cookie, Super 3
Sally: Lobber, Twist Up, Astral Cookie, Super 3
Werner Werman: Lobber, Roundabout, Heart Ring, Super 1
Dr Kahl's Robot: Heart Ring
Cala Maria: Heart Ring
Phantom Express: Converge, Crackshot, Astral Cookie, Super 3
King Dice: Crackshot, Roundabout, Astral Cookie, Super 3
The Devil: Crackshot, Lobber, Astral Cookie, Super 3
Glumstone: Crackshot, Twist up, Astral Cookie, Super 3
Moonshine Mob: Crackshot, Roundabout, Astral Cookie, Super 3
The Howling Aces: Crackshot, Roundabout/ Twist up, Astral Cookie, Super 3
Mortimer Freeze: Crackshot, Lobber, Astral Cookie, Super 3
Esther Winchester: Heart Ring
Saltbaker: Crackshot, Lobber, Astral Cookie, Super 2/3
I know I basically stuck to a single loadout but it's just the best imo.
Super Art 1 does only 87 damage, leaves you immobile for the duration and if a boss shoots at you when the super ends you can end up getting hit with nothing you can do about it
Super Art 2 lasts for ~4.85 seconds with full movement and invincibility for the duration, which allows you to reposition, save yourself, and deal as much damage as possible without risk of harm. Take Spread shot, for instance. It has a DPS of 41.333, multiplying by 4 since you’ll likely not be shooting the boss for the entire duration of the super, still does 165.332 damage, almost double the output of Super Art 1. It’s not really useful unless there’s a boss you can’t get super consistent damage against (Brineybeard) or two bosses stacked onto one another (Ribby & Croaks)
And beppi! It's fun to use on the 2nd and last phase
I will not take this P-Sugar slander.
Parry timing is difficult when you're trying to dodge attacks and make sure your shots are hitting at the same time. This takes some of that grief away. One less thing to worry about, allowing me to focus on killing the boss and not dying.
You're right! It's only useful for me when I parry pink ghosts(since there's no point in shooting them) and plane levels for "double parry window"
Jokes aside, I understand the use for sugar but I am very good at parrying that it's sorta "ehh"
My main thing with p sugar is it removes the delay between jumping and being able to parry. No matter how fast you press that button there is a delay, and if youre jumping into a pink thing from below it makes p sugar way better because as long as you leave the ground before you connect, you will parry
whetstone is actually powerful. If you learn how to use it you will tear through bosses easily.
Exactly dawg. If you learn to mix it into your normal attacking, it's phenomenal.
Super Art 2 being in F tier is a crime, it’s usually much better than Super Art 1 since it doesn’t as much damage as you’d really like
Relic in B tier imo and put Whetstone up one
Bro I just started the game like 2 days ago and I’m on the devil Boss wtf are all theese weapons I have chaser lobber spread. And dash and 4 lives. And the ex ult with the big white beam and invincibility
There are 9 weapons in total, 9 charms in total and technically 6 super arts (I won't spoil that). I'm doing a randomized run right now with a number generator so I just know these numbers.
A bunch of these are also from the DLC. So unless you've also bought the DLC you can't get those,
Besides that, you're still missing a couple base game weapons to
I'm trying to figure out what gun I should get or start trying to get because I've been doing really bad at the game
Crackshot HANDS DOWN
Not even a top 5 weapon let alone the best lol
Which slot
I personally use crackshot as the first primary, and I also equip ms challice. That combo got me thru the game and all s ranks
I would always use the chaser as a back up when i needed to focus on dodging, but the crackshot achieves the same thing only better. The primary i use for heavy damage, I like spread for some bosses, lobber for others, or charge. Charge always made the most sense for my play style because I have played a lot of metroid games.
Also crackshot has the best EX because you can get a parry off of it. And in general 4 EX hits will do more damage than 1 five card Super.
Roundabout.
Correct
Not even a top 3 weapon
Don’t listen to these crackshot merchants charge is the best then spread
Roundabout and spread
What is with this subreddit with underestimating Chalices second super
Happy now ? (Please release my family 🙏)
True except for the Whetstone is overpowered if used correctly, it is just difficult to use correctly, and not worth it most of the time. I think it should be a solid B tier
Yup. Watch any IL speedrun of the boss fights and they are constantly whetstoning
Whetstone deserves C, wait wait did I see that right?? Chalice Super Art II at C?
Happy now ? (Please release my family 🙏)
Why does everyone hate whetstone? It’s a great charm that is very useful in certain situations.
No 🙏😭
Ur just wrong. Use it, try using it, with some amount of skill, and you’ll see.
I agree
Why isn't the astral cookie in S tier? It literally gives you a new and good character.
Raisin Oatmeal Cookie :(
/s
Here's mine, focus more on mad dog speec, heat gauge and defense
One counter and its over for the boss
yup waiting for legend difficulty now majima is too op
I'm not exactly at end game, but one of my hands looks like your right hand. Except I'm using the Coconut Ring for extra item drops instead of M Ring. My other hand has the four divine beast rings and one that lets you shoot faster.
Interesting, not bad of a build

Reminder that all spoilers need to be tagged with a flair specifying which game is being spoiled. If you want a flair that says something else, you can edit it to say something like [Discussion: Y1 spoiler] or [Majimapost: Y6 spoiler], etc. THIS INCLUDES CONTENT FROM TRAILERS.
If the post is not marked for spoilers, all comments that have spoilers need to be tagged >!like this!< along with indicating which game it's spoiling. Example: Y3 >!Kiryu sings!<
If the post flair is marked for spoilers, the comments don't need to be tagged for the game indicated and the ones before it (So a Y6 spoiler post can have comments with untagged spoilers for Y5, but not gaiden or 7).
