Understanding Patterns and Practice
One of the key strategies to beating bosses in Cuphead is understanding their attack patterns. Many players emphasize that the game becomes easier as you learn the movements and attacks of each boss. This involves playing a boss repeatedly until you can anticipate their moves [1:1]
[4:1]. As one commenter noted, "After that you can beat any boss with any weapon"
[4:1]. It's all about muscle memory and fine-tuning your reflexes
[1:6].
Choosing the Right Loadout
Selecting the appropriate weapons and charms can significantly impact your ability to defeat bosses. The Roundabout weapon and Smokebomb charm are frequently recommended for their effectiveness across multiple bosses [3:3]
[4:7]. The Chaser and Spread weapons are also popular choices
[4:9]. Adjusting your loadout based on the boss you're facing can make challenging fights more manageable
[3:1]
[4:2].
Trial and Error Approach
Cuphead requires a lot of patience and perseverance. Players often mention the importance of trial and error, trying different strategies, and accepting that dying is part of the learning process [1:4]. It's common to spend hours practicing and refining your approach to each boss
[2:1]
[2:3].
Tips for Specific Bosses
Some bosses are notoriously difficult, such as the Dragon, King Dice, and the Devil [2:5]
[5:9]. For these, specific strategies might be needed:
Mental Approach
Lastly, maintaining a positive mindset is crucial. While some players joke about "git gud," it's important to remember that persistence and practice will lead to improvement [1:6]
[4:3]. Taking breaks and not getting discouraged by setbacks can help keep your mental health intact while tackling this challenging game
[1:7].
My brother just got Cuphead yesterday in hopes of adding to our list of indie games we've played; little did the two of us know that this game was hard as balls. Bro, y'all make this look so fucking easy doing it without taking damage. HOW DOES ONE BEAT THIS DAMN GAME!!!
It is formally known as The Great Cuphead War in my house. 300 percent on all 3 saves. About 3 years ago. It is my greatest achievement to this day.
Why is it a war? Did it have any casualties? (smashed controllers do count)
Just git gud mate
Just kidding, the game is all about muscle memory, be cartain that these people that finish the game without taking damage, already died A LOT before being able to do this
I'll have to try several times before you remember "Now the boss will do this, now an enemy will appear here"
I'm currently s ranking the devil and king dice. P ranked and s ranked everyone else. I had a little under 500 deaths after a+ everything the first go round on normal (including the run n guns), and I did a ton of resetting. I'm sure I'm now over a thousand and I've still be resetting. It's also my first time playing lol
I won't even try to S rank everything, would like to, but my mental health is more important
So in other words…
Just git gud mate
>HOW DOES ONE BEAT THIS DAMN GAME!!!
Infinite amounts of trial and error, building skills more and more across a period of multiple hours a day, trying new strategies, retrying old strategies,
and a WHOLE lot of dying.
İn sekiro terms
Git gud
I think those are hollow knight terms...
imo the most satisfying part of the game is in your own skill progression. I’m stuck on the Devil in the base game, but I know I will beat him eventually - the fight is fair and it’s just a matter of fine-tuning my reflexes and responses, as it was for every other fight in the game.
I was looking at my boss fight scores and noticed that I got a B- for Goopy Le Grande and an A- for Dr. Kahl’s Robot, lol. The game truly does get easier with practice (and a lot of patience).
It can be really hard lmao, I got it without knowing how hard it was and didn't play for months, honestly it's really hard to beat bosses the first time but you do get the hang of it, the people making it look easy have just been through the rounds
At some point, you just become
My top five hardest bosses
The dragon guy
The dice person
The bee
The robot
The devil(got kinda lucky honestly)
You actually beat it quicker than me and I've seen the game
King dice and the devil took 5 of these hours btw
Don’t worry, mines 45 😭
Nice pic, mate!
We shall not talk about me taking like 8 days straight just beating the main game, DLC, and refighting bosses for like 40 second intervals
So I was playing CUPHEAD in mobile and I was in isle 2 And bruh every boss in there is very hard. So I just want some tips
Are you changing your weapons for each boss? My advice is to fight one boss at a time, get good at that and then keep going. Gotta keep practicing.
Ok
Been playing for awhile.
Early, my advice is to get Smokebomb (invincible dash) and the Roundabout weapon first.
Spend your first 4 coins on Roundabout. Do the first Run-n-Gun and then buy Smokebomb.
Those 2 items should be able to carry you through Isle 1 and quite a few other bosses.
Coffee is a good item for plane levels to be able to spam ex attack more frequently.
Have fun!
Roundabout and smokebomb is good advice. I've beaten the game with 0 deaths (not including the DLC) on expert using pretty much only roundabout.
What is cuphead in mobile?
Cuphead was brutal for me until I started paying attention to the upgrade path and what weapons I was choosing. The right loadouts will make the toughest boss far more manageable.
Which layout is best for von bon bon?
I used chaser and spread for that one (spread just in case the gum ball machine comes out. Chaser is good for the rest of it)
Use an xbox controller. And a good mindset
🤔
Just got it in the mail last night and spent three hours playing it this afternoon. This is far and away the hardest game I have ever played. Definitely would appreciate any tips especially what to use coins on. God bless anyone who has beaten this game, especially 100%.
Depends on how you want to play, and what boss you’re fighting. If you like to stay back and shoot from a far, like with ribby and croaks for instance, roundabout would be a good option. If you prefer to do higher dps and enjoy close combat (which can be harder) something like spread would be better. A lot of the fun of the game comes from trying different stuff and seeing what’s the most effective for any particular boss. But if you get bored or feel like you’re struggling with a specific boss, don’t feel bad about looking up the recommendations for that boss. Remember, you gotta have a great plan and then some! Hope you enjoy the journey :)
Thank you! I don’t really have a preference as far as style. Just whatever makes it easier to accomplish beating the stages/bosses. I only beat two in three hours. I think it’ll take some time to get used to the mechanics.
And that’s fine! When I was first starting out it was sooo hard but after a while you learn the movement and how to avoid stuff and it gets easier. Definitely get smoke bomb if you’re having trouble avoiding attacks, as it makes you immune to damage while you’re dashing. Helped immensely on my first play through
honestly. roundabout and spread or roundabout and crackshot got me thru most of the game
Ty
Definitely think and do research before spending coins cuz you only get so many . Chaser, spread and smoke charm are great
Yeah, I might have to restart
There’s detailed explanations on YouTube of locations of coins and if beat run and gun level without getting all coins you can go back to get them all
Get the improved dash asap. Also the roundabout shot is insane if you know how to use it
Play a boss enough so you understand patterns. After that you can beat any boss with any weapon.
My 100% achievements playtrough took 2800 deaths.
Am i the only one who thinks the dragon boss is very easy it only took me 10 min
He's a lot easier on expert, first boss I S-ranked and only took maybe 5 tries
I finished the game for the first time recently, and i found him to be easy too, i beat him arround my 3rd try on normal, in expert he is even easier.
For 99% of community says its the hardest boss but for me is one of the hardest
I did too. Kept reading how he was one of the hardest and I'm like are we playing different games?
Yeah same beat him under 10 attempts first time
Play the game on expert mode Wally warbles become nightmare
I beat him
How hard was wally on expert?
i find clown to be in hard catergory and chips definitley in easy until they get a bullshit combo on you, but other thatn that, great!
The mermaid gave me the most problems by far. Def BS tier for me.
Hate that robot dude…
So I don’t think this is well known yet so yeah. The fight can be triggered again by standing in front of the middle tombstone and holding L+R (or LT+RT) for a bit, reactivating the tombstone. Currently it does not seems to work with keyboard control.
This is great because the achievements in this game are buggy. I beat the boss and didn’t get the achievement. I thought I’d have to play the whole game again.
I also killed a boss using Ms Chalice super and that didn’t give me the achievement. Plus it’s not tracking boss kills with her.
It took killing several bosses for me with the divine relic for paladin to pop, and many others seem buggy at the moment.
Lol I can't even beat that dumb dragon and a few islands 3 bosses so i have never fought king dice or the devil. I can't beat the game because I stink but at least I got the divine relic
Can confirm this works, I thought it was weird that there was a boss you couldn't rematch.
I assume the keyboard controls for doing this were either broken or they forgot to implement them, hopefully that will get patched in later.
It does work, trying to find a keyboard equivalent right now.
You Need Cursed Relic Then Talk To The Racers I Think From 1st To 3rd So For Example The First Guy Says "That Race Was Down Right Crazy!" So Now The First Grave You Press I Bottom Right
Oh Ik. I was talking about the way you’re able to fight them again lol
I Think You Do The Gravestone Puzzle Again
Yep, it's really working!
Thank you i was wondering
Hey guys! I’m new to cuphead and I’m really struggling 😅 I’ve noticed that when I shoot bosses even with the EX shots that time still needs to pass to beat them, so what is it that beats the bosses? Does a time limit need to happen as well as hitting them with powerful shots? Thanks in advance!!
It is only damage that matters, but bosses have tons upon tons of health, so it usually takes a good few minutes to kill them.
Awesome, thanks!!
Just damage, time doesn't matter
Oh I had no idea! Awesome thanks :)
After defeating the angel/demon boss in the dlc and getting the cursed charm I found that just trying to beat bosses with it made me (somewhat) good at the game because. Only having one heart made me good at dodging, gaining hearts by parrying made me good at parrying, and changing weapons every time I stoped shooting helped me learn what weapons are good for what situations, this may not work for everyone but it does work for me 😊
I really love the relic since as it teaches you to adapt, which toe is the core part of cuphead
Can y’all give me tips on how to beat bosses on Isle 1
Specify - what bosses? Normal or expert?
Normal and I need to beat hilda berg, the sunflower, and the frogs
I cant give tips on the sunflower and frogs ones since i dont really remember the fights, but i can give some for hilda berg.
Since there is rng involved in some of the phases, just find out which ones your good at (bull, twins, and archer) and for the ones you arent good at maybe watch a video for a strategy so you can become more consistent. Also remember to parry in the first, third, and last phase and keep pumping ex moves and supers into her.
which guns do you have?
Sunflowers are steeped in symbolism and meanings. For many they symbolize optimism, positivity, a long life and happiness for fairly obvious reasons. The less obvious ones are loyalty, faith and luck.
Update: just defeated the frogs
I regularly play this game I’ve platinumed it but what it comes down to is playing the game and learning the patterns a few tips is this get spread if you haven’t I’d honestly restart. One thing that helps me is focus your vision on what’s coming at you instead of looking at the actual boss I’ve also made the mistake of not utilizing my dash enough in my first run years ago and further down the road Id buy the extra hit point that’s how I got through the first game spread extra hit point and the first super art.
DISCLAIMER: I have the DLC, some of the new charms and weapon really helped me but I would have found a way to beat the bosses either way.
So, I just beat Cuphead base game after 3 years (long breaks included). Before starting my final stretch of it I was stuck in Inkwell Isle Three and had only beaten Captain Brineybeard. But between yesterday and today I decided to get it together and actually git gud at the bosses until I beat them. And here's some things I have to say:
-1, Dr. Kahl's robot isn't nearly as hard as people make it out to be if you know what you're doing and what to do. All I needed was the Heart ring and to parry whenever I had the opportunity. Saving your super to drastically reduce the duration of the 2nd phase also helped me a lot. As for the final phase it's more of an endurance test, I would focus mostly on dodging and trying to stay level with Dr. Kahl and spam EXs whenever I had the opportunity. The fact that some projectiles are parriable is also a great bonus. It took me around 15 tries to beat him.
-2, Rugged Ridge is the easiest run 'n gun in the game, especially with Miss Chalice. It makes getting some of the coins and the Cyclops section A LOT easier. Combine that moveset with Crackshot and Roundabout, once you get to the downhill section you're good to go.
I think rugged ridge is 4th (granted I have setups to consistently beat treetop trouble funfair fever and fun house frazzle all In 1 attempt)
Agreed with Kahl.. he isn't a tough fight just long
When I first played it a few years ago I sucked kinda, just started playing again this month now I can beat everything on expert
I'm going for S ranks and divine relic, there's a considerable difference between beating a boss on regular in order to progress and getting a perfect rank just a bit more casually
Yeah I like trying to get a rank and work on time skills. It’s a really fun game. Great replay value
I Disagree with 2, since treetop trouble and forest follies exist. I DEFINITLY agree with DrKhall being easy.
check another one of my replies. I said it was the easiest besides forest follies. Treetop Trouble is almost at the same level of difficulty as Funfair fever
I disagree with 2. Forest Follies is actually so easy that I A+-ed it on my first try when I rebought the game on Steam
should have phrased it better, rugged ridge is the easiest run n gun besides forest follies. It did take me the least amount of attempts though
Fair enough
I agree about Dr. Kahl, he isn't about fast reactions but instead about repeating cycles of attacks, which I guess is true for any boss but for example with Honeybottoms you're always on your toes with the platforming and also have random worker bees flying around. Though you mentioned Heart Ring, which wasn't around when Kahl was designed
> I would focus mostly on dodging and trying to stay level with Dr. Kahl and spam EXs whenever I had the opportunity
Isn't that what you do with any airplane boss?
Rugged ridge definitely isn't the easiest and either way your point is flawed because it wasn't designed with Chalice and Crackshot in mind. That being said, Isle 2 Run N Guns are definitely the easiest to me.
this is just my personal experience with all of it and I know all of this stuff
How to beat bosses in Cuphead
Here are some key strategies to beat bosses in Cuphead:
Learn Attack Patterns: Each boss has specific attack patterns. Spend time observing their moves to anticipate and dodge effectively.
Use the Right Weapons: Experiment with different weapons and charms. For example, the Spread shot is great for close-range, while the Chaser is useful for tracking enemies.
Dodge and Parry: Master the dodge mechanic to avoid attacks and use the parry to gain invincibility frames. Parrying pink objects can also build your super meter.
Stay Mobile: Keep moving to avoid attacks. Use the dash ability to quickly evade dangerous projectiles and stay out of harm's way.
Co-op Play: If possible, play with a friend. Co-op mode allows for more strategic play and can make some bosses easier to defeat.
Practice Makes Perfect: Don’t get discouraged by repeated failures. Each attempt helps you learn the boss's mechanics better.
Recommendation: Focus on mastering one boss at a time. Once you feel confident with their patterns and have the right loadout, you’ll increase your chances of victory. Remember to take breaks if you’re feeling frustrated; a fresh perspective can make a big difference!
