I have an unlimited budget. I want the best monitor there is as I stare at one for hours a day on average.
I game, I video edit.
I am slightly colour blind, so ultra-precise colours do not matter to me.
Currently on an old 144hz 1080p monitor - has served me well, but it’s now being demoted to being the second monitor.

I'm leaning towards OLED for those sick, vivid colors and deep blacks. Been debating whether to go curved, ultrawide, or just stick with a flat display?
I'm also trying to figure out whether 4K or 1440P is the way to go? And what the ideal screen size should be? What setup you guys are rocking and which monitor you swear by. Help me get the best bang for my buck
well 4K will look best, but it's the hardest to run. 1440p is good for high refresh rate 100-200+ fps.
Curved/ultrawide/flat is all opinionated really.
I personally despise black bars.
You can use DLSS/FSR to AI upscale to 4K, whether it looks good or not depends.
For best bang for buck, 1440p 144-240hz is the way to go.
95% of games either support ultrawide now or have easy-to-find mods to enable it. With OLED, black bars are just, "off", so it's not nearly as big a deal as it used to be with other display technologies where you'd get a glow fron the side bars. I watch a lot of 16:9 content on my 21:9 OLED monitor, and it's not an issue at all.

Just swapped to a Samsung 57" Odyssey Neo G9 Series Dual 4K UHD 1000R Curved 240 hz 1ms From a Samsung 49” Odyssey OLED 1440p 240hz 1ms
Both are excellent, and I only upgraded to run 4k

They are running them at 30-60 fps in single player games. Amazing displays if you don’t care about any competitive games where you need fps. 24-32 inch is still the sweet spot for FPS games. Personally I wouldn’t go lower than 27.
7800x3d and a Rog Strix OC 4090, actually waiting on a 9800x3d to arrive via new egg. I’m on the certified customer list for a 5090 but I haven’t been selected yet.
4k curved 32 inch QW-OLED and at least 240Hz. Type those in on the web and see what you like. Might spend like 1-2k on a monitor but money is no obstacle

If you want the absolute best right now, LG 5K2K 45 inch OLED. If you want to stay under 1000, I recommend the MSI 341CQPX. 3440x1440 240Hz QD-OLED is a really nice sweet spot

the LG 5k2k is almost objectively the best on the market specs wise.
Agreed this is the best but it also takes a lot of horsepower to run it. Depending on your specs this may not be doable at a satisfying refresh rate.
I wanna say any 40 series will run it well for RPG games since those don’t get high frames anyways. Probably not the best monitor for competitive FPS if you’re a frame junkie though

Alienware 34-inch aw3423dw is a decent QD-OLED. The new LG G9X 45-inch 5K2K is very good if you have the money and the room on your desk.

LG 5k2k/GX9 is the best 21:9 ultrawide on the market right now.
32:9 its either the G9 OLED or the G9 57", depending if you prefer OLED or higher resolution and size.
Of course to get the most out of them (mainly the 57" and the GX9), you'd ideally have a 5080/4090/5090.

LG GX9 looks really good but I think my eye ball muscles will be strained looking across the screen while playing more fast paced online games. I've been loving my 34" 21:9 LG monitor but looking to upgrade since it's been like 6 years (shoutout to LG, not a single problem and still going strong so far, just want OLED).

Had this monitor for a bit over 2 years now, and it has worked great. Picture quality has been nice and smooth from watching movies on my pc to playing games on console. The picture is smoother and "butterier" versus my older ASUS monitor at 60 Hz. Would recommend.

There are so many options out there, and I am not sure what matters most. What is the ideal screen size, is bigger always better? Should I go for 4K, or would 1440p or even 1080p be better for smoother performance? What about refresh rates, is 144Hz enough, or should I aim higher? Are OLED panels really worth it, or do other panel types provide better value?
Budget is not a problem, but I want to get the best value for the money. What is the ultimate gaming monitor you would recommend as an investment? 🙏

4k won't scale nicely to 1440p which you'll need to downgrade to if you want to use all of your refresh rate, you have to go all the way down to 1080p to get a nice image

I know 'the best' depends on each person but I'm still curious to know your choices, please included their resolution, refresh rate...and can you tell me which other specs i should look for when buying. I will not limit my budget for it if you say it's really worth it.

There’s a lot to think about when it comes to monitors.
Refresh rate is the maximum number of times the monitor can refresh itself in a given second. So if a monitor says it’s 60hz, it maxes at 60fps, 400hz maxes at 400fps. Most monitors these days support some kind of variable refresh rate technology (like nvidia vsync, amd freesync) , where they can adjust the refresh rate to match the rate at which your graphics adapter is actually producing frames, which reduces weird visual effects like screen tearing. This is a good feature to look out for, and it comes in various levels of compatability, so check what hardware you already have and which of those it supports to determine what spec you’re looking for in a monitor.
Resolution affects visual clarity. More pixels, more room for detail, that’s that. However, more pixels also means it’s harder to drive. Monitors come in 3 standard resolutions: 1080p (1920x1080), 1440p (2560x1440), and 4k (3840x2160). However there are also “ultrawide” monitors, almost always considerably curved, that expand the horizontal resolution of the screen by using a non-standard aspect-ratio (something like 21:9 instead of the standard 16:9) or even super-ultrawide (kinda ridiculous imo). Just know the more pixels there are, the more work is required to render each frame, so the harder your GPU is going to be pushed, leading to lower framerates at the same settings and GPU.
Another spec you should care about is panel type. There’s a lot of panel types out there, like TN, VA, IPS, OLED and QD-OLED. They have all their own upsides and downsides but I can’t cover them all here.
Think about screen size as well. Do you want a curved monitor? Monitors tend to get larger as you go higher in resolution. Ultrawide monitors are well… ultra wide. More screen means more real estate, but you should consider the space it will be in when thinking about size.
You’ll also want to look at response time (how long it takes a pixel to switch from one color to another). Low response times is better, resulting in improved motion clarity. The advertised spec isn’t always super accurate here though, so look for reviews.
Finally there’s other factors such as I/O connections (can you connect multiple HDMI/Displayport cables if you need to for a multiple input setup?) HDR support and input latency (that last one usually isn’t an issue for gaming monitors). All deserve their own consideration.
For most gamers yes, 1440p is considered the superior resolution. 4k represents a pretty huge hit to performance (much bigger than the jump from 1080p to 1440p) and you get diminishing returns on perceived visual clarity by just adding more pixels. More hardware is capable of 4k than ever before, but still unless you’re OK with dropping a ton of money into a GPU that can handle it, many gamers prefer 1440p and smooth, high refresh rates.
1080p is still a great resolution for those looking for ULTRA high refresh rates and lower price points. There’s arguments for all 3 based on what hardware you have available to drive it and what your goal is with your games. 1440p strikes a nice middle ground of being vastly easier to drive than 4k, so a lot more hardware can run games smoothly with plenty of FPS and higher settings, while still prividing considerably higher image quality than 1080p.
Consider your hardware (GPU), look at reviews online of how it performs in popular games (ideally your games, but otherwise similar ones) on different resolutions. Think: are you a competitive gamer looking for the absolute lowest possible latency in games to get an edge? Then you might pick a nice 1080p monitor that boasts super high refresh rates. If you instead are looking for your games to look absolutely gorgeous, have powerful graphics hardware and don’t mind aiming for the 60-90fps range you might look for a 4k monitor with more modest refresh rates and great color accuracy. If you’re somewhere in the middle, maybe not quite sure about 4k but looking for an upgrade in visual quality and details over 1080p, 1440p is for you.

Currently use a 4K IPS monitor which looks incredible but I’d like to get the extra frames with 1440. I’m just afraid to step down and be dissatisfied if my games look worse. I mostly play single player games tho so I do like seeing everything in 4K
Heavily biased, as any other comment here, but here is mine: 3440x1440x144Hz on VA with its high contrast and deep black, for a reasonable price. The only disadvantage is some old games that can't render ultrawide, so a second 1920x1080x165Hz monitor is nice to have.
On the point of irresistible beauty of 4K, I can only smile and feel sorry, remembering the glorious team battles in Quake 1 on VGA monitor. Never since it was that much fun, no one cared for whatever pixel number was rendered there while one was madly running through that hell with axe only (for extreme stress management). Another memory is AvP2, the primal terror it instilled (when playing as marine), the subtle merging of game world and reality (headphones, darkness and night time), the adrenaline rush of being torn apart and eaten alive in some dark alley, and so on. Pixels did not matter. If a game makes one think how many pixels are rendered, or how deep the black is, it is not a game but a waste of one's time.

I'm leaning towards OLED for those sick, vivid colors and deep blacks. Been debating whether to go curved, ultrawide, or just stick with a flat display? I've always assumed a smaller screen is better for FPS shooters, probably I’m wrong.
I'm also trying to figure out whether 4K or 1440P is the way to go? And what the ideal screen size should be? What setup you guys are rocking and which monitor you swear by. Help me get the best bang for my buck.

I got 32 inches and can't imagine going back. That being said my MSI monitors have been awesome. I originally was going to buy an ASUS but they were backordered and had a premium price, the MSI ones are a bit cheaper and are 4k 240hz oled. They also offer both 27 inch and 32inch.
MSI also have a 1440p 27 inch 360hz. <--- this is what I would recommend if you only play FPS.
But in reality after I looked into it. MSI, ASUS, Alienware, Samsung. They are all buying Samsung oled screens, all 4 of them have the exact same screens. Its about what their warranties are, do they have back cooling, do they off in screen sound (some people want that). Samsung is the consumer grade, includes backlight, presets, and sound.

There's more to it than just "bigger number better".
There is a point of diminishing returns, and that point seems to vary greatly per person. The only real way to tell what it the best for you is to go to a store that has monitors on display and look at them. For some people, the jump from 1440p to 4k at 27inch isn't that noticeable and so they either opt for the lower resolution at the same screen size for smoother performance, or, up both the resolution and screen size.
What really annoys me in these debates is that most people talk like it's all fact. It's not. It changes based on each person, their eyesight, their distance from the screen, and their personal preference.
I have a 27" 1440p screen, which is ideal for me. I wouldn't want anything bigger for gaming, and the pixel density is at a sweet spot for me.
Some people like curved, some don't. Some like ultrawide, some don't. It's all preference.

I just got the Alienware AW3423DWF, which is the 34inch 1440p 165 monitor qd-oled and it's beautiful.
I play 1440p ona. 7800x3d and 7900xtx for the balance of visual fidelity and high fps, intentionally choosing 1440p over 4k.
I recently upgraded to a 1440p 240Hz OLED (LG 27GS95QX-B) and it's a whole new experience. Insanely smooth, fantastic colors and pitch black blacks.
Same setup on 3440x1440 165hz and I'm loving it. OLED really is amazing visually.

I've never used it or researched it, and I'm also one that doesn't see much differences past the 120Hz mark, nor do I play CSGO. Again, your best bet is to read reviews, and note the aspects that are most important to you.

I play 1440p/165Hz, so I can’t personally speak to these, but the BenQ/Zowie XL2546K got rave reviews from optimum tech on YouTube for use in FPS games. It is pretty expensive, so they also recommended the MSI MAG251RX as a good value option for 240Hz.
Actually went to find the initial review video and found a newer video where they recommend the viewsonic XG2431 as their favorite 240 Hz monitor, and it’s less expensive than the other two, so I’d look for some more reviews on this one. Maybe see if RTings has tested it.
Need to think about question. Hardware os situational. Some good for high fps gaming some good for hdr... Some new ones good at both. Depends on budget.
