TL;DR
Top Recommended Brands and Models
Held gloves, particularly the Titan and Phantom models, are frequently praised for their high level of protection and durability. These gloves are often mentioned as top choices for riders seeking full gauntlet protection [1:2]
[3:1]. Knox Handroid gloves also receive positive feedback for their robust construction and protective features
[1:5]
[3:2].
Considerations for Fit and Comfort
Fit and comfort are crucial when selecting motorcycle gloves. It's important to try different models to find the right fit, as even expensive gloves can be uncomfortable if they don't fit well [2:5]. Users recommend looking for gloves with CE certification, knuckle protection, and solid palm protection
[2:6]
[2:9]. Additionally, having multiple pairs for different weather conditions is advised, such as vented gloves for summer and waterproof ones for colder days
[2:2].
Durability and Longevity
For long-lasting gloves, users have recommended brands like Held and Knox, which have proven durable over tens of thousands of miles [3:1]
[3:4]. Dianese gloves are noted for their durability and ability to protect hands during crashes
[3:3]
[3:8]. OdinMFG gloves are also highlighted for their unique features tailored for bikers
[2:1]
[3:6].
Dexterity and Ventilation
For riders prioritizing dexterity and ventilation, Alpinestars SP8 Air and Rev'it Ritmo gloves are recommended. These gloves provide good feel and airflow, making them suitable for warmer weather [4:1]
[4:2]. The Racer Guide and Knox Orsa gloves are also mentioned as options with good dexterity
[4:5]
[4:6].
Budget Considerations
While some gloves come at a premium price, it's often worth investing in higher-quality gloves for better protection and longevity. Alpinestars gloves are noted for their affordability but may lack certain protective features compared to more expensive models [5:1]
[5:5]. For those on a budget, Five gloves are suggested as an alternative
[5:5].
im looking for full protection gauntlets. i’ve been looking into it but it’s really hard to compare. the full metal from dainese looks good but I’m nervous about not having a finger bridge, the distortion control on the pinky looks useless. the rfx race from 5 looks amazing but i cant try them on first. i’m not huge on astars gloves i’ve gotten in the past and they dont seem to make the supertech gloves anymore. i also heard a lot of people like knox handroid. is there a glove thats considered the best of the best, not just because its name brand?
I have used the Held phantoms, held titan evo, knox handroids v2, racer r safe and currently on rs taichi gp max. If you are looking for the best protection just buy the Held titans
Based on reviews, the Held Titan. My pair (Titan RR, previous generation) is in the mail, due to arrive next week, will report back.
Big fan of Held, Fives, Racer and Rev’it.
Held Phantoms/Titans
To answer your question: no. All you'll get here is personal preference and personal anecdotes about how one glove model was great or failed badly. Just buy from a high-quality manufacturer.
Hi, I want to buy motorcycle gloves, so I just wanted to ask which ones should I get. I really don't know much about gloves, that's why I'm asking here...
These are gloves I'm able to get:
LS2 Spark
LS2 Dart 2
Rev'it! Chevron 2
Rev'it! Mosca
Rev'it! Titan
Any help will be appreciated!
Gloves are over of those things that you will find you need multiple pairs of depending on the weather. Everything from hot weather mesh short cuff to waterproof gauntlets.
Just stick with a reputable brand, get ones that are comfortable and not too tight, and fits the type of riding you do.
I've always had great luck with Alpinestars, Klim, and Scorpion.
OdinMFG! Been riding daily for well over a decade and they are pretty much the only gloves I buy anymore. They are out of Canada and are made by bikers, for bikers. They have a lot of motorcycle centric features that are hard to beat. Flip up index and thumb for non gimmick touch screen use, and magnets in the wrists so your gloves stick together and to your tank.
Was just about to suggest them, too. their perforated Heavy Hitters are easily the best riding gloves I've ever had.
Never seen these before, I'm going to try the StreetMX. I love my Icon Hypersports but they're too hot for the current weather. And my mesh gloves are garbage! Thanks.
I think those are all good choices. What will matter the most between them is the fit. I have some super expensive Dainese gloves that I hate because just fit a little bit too tight. A size up would have been too loose. In retrospect, I should have bought a different model
why didn't you simply stretch the glove a little?
I don't want to give advice on specific gloves, but all big known brand should be fine. Few points I'm personally looking at:
That palm protection opposite of the thumb is most important IMO, it's for sliding, without it your palm will stick to the road and break your arm.
Go full leather with good palm and knuckle protection
Yepp, then you go to a shop and get the ones on sale
what motorcycle gloves do you recommend that have lasted you tens of thousands of miles/km? And that the palm is still holding up. (Any types are welcomed)
my current gloves are a pair of busted up Alpinestars Cellar V2 gloves that I've worn for 14,000 miles/22500km, palm has thinned and broken. I do have replacement gloves but know I'm thinking of probably returning those (Alpines* SMX Z Drystar & Alpine* Booster v2) and getting one of the ones u guys might recommend!
Cheers :) (mods yes I used the search first, only 1 "recent" one)
I have a pair of Knox gloves that are bulletproof. Love them.
what model are they? and how many miles have u worn them for?
They're Knox Orsa gloves, not sure on the mileage but I've used them regularly for the last 7 years.
Dianese has never done me wrong. Their Steel Pro gloves lasted me over 15k miles before kicking it in a crash. Saved my hands, though.
Seconded dianese, no matter what the piece of gear, their stuff is excellent.
Great, sturdy pair of gloves. Expensive, but super well constructed. Took a little to break in, though.
I've also had some Revit gloves that were nice lightweight, warm weather gloves, but they didn't last that long. Only maybe 5k miles before the leather started to disintegrate at the thumb seam.
Odin Mfg. Make quality gear (not found on Revzilla or Cyclegear), or Icon Hypersport (my personal favorites, that keep getting STOLEN).
how is the palm thickness?
The Icon are goat skin (I think) they're thicker than my older A-stars. A bit thick for Summer and too thin for Winter, good feel and soft. My Odins are the SMX, these are my Summer gloves. They're Cowhide and a little thicker but, perforated palms and breathe VERY well. I wish the SMXs had palm sliders, beyond that I like them a lot and they look new still after 2 years.
Held phantoms and BMW GS gloves. Both have lasted me for a long time and I commute and tour with them. Maybe causal but both of them are made with roo Leather
nice, what does the palm thickness look like now?
Subjective I know but the Palm thickness is still pretty good and I still feel them to be protective.
I’m looking for some new gloves I want something that has good dexterity so not too stiff and would like if they had the plastic palm sliders.
I just got Revit Ritmo. I’ve only use them once so far but they seem good. Pretty good dexterity and feel and they have sliders. Also decent ventilation.
Thanks...I do like these, are they too warm for summer riding?
Like I said, I’ve only used them once, but they seemed fine. They have some mesh that is helpful. I could feel the wind coming in between my fingers. Haven’t used them in truly hot weather though.
Racer Guide
Knox Orsa.
Held
Alpinestars SP8 air. I have had four pairs of gloves, they are easily my favourite as long as it isn’t wet and cold out
I got these from Alpinstars x Honda and I absolutely love them, they’re not exactly like the ones you showed but they’re very lightweight and made for summer, I like the extra carbon reinforced knuckles. So I guess yours should be fine, but they just look like they wouldn’t be very protective to my eyes
I want the smx air 1 v2 but it's double the cost in India , if you get smx for $65 there , we have to pay $128 for the same pair of gloves due to import taxes and all
I can understand that, but honestly if you can put a little more money into gloves and get something that will have extra protection, you should.
If not then you probably can’t go wrong with alpinestars (unless you plan on riding on the track or at high speed, then those are definitely not recommended)
I got those too!! Black with red and white accents #ganggangg paid like $40 or $50 at Cyclegear
It is a offroad glove. You have a pavement slide and most of the glove will just melt. You will want a glove with some leather on the top and the sides of the glove.
Personally would not get them, knuckle protection seems limited and theres no palm slider. If I were you I would look into Five gloves.
For the street? Absolutely not, might as well drape a wet napkin over your hand for protection
Okie 😭
Decent but I find that the Velcro dies quickly on the alpinestars gloves. I get around 15-18k miles out of gloves from them which is pretty decent for the price.
They are a bit warm without the little vents the higher dollar versions have. Good or bad depends on your climate.
Soak them in hot water and do a few rides with them wet and they will curl up a bit more naturally.
hello, i want to get my bf a new pair of moto gloves but so far i find it really hard to actually get specific suggestions and i would find it really helpful if anyone could help me🥹 i, myself, don’t ride or really know anything so i don’t trust myself to just pick it based of looks and descriptions. he rides daily to go to school, to work or just to ride with his friends. he currently has some alpinestars and i would prefer to stay in that brand because i know that he likes it. my main criteria is protection because i’m always terrified of him crashing. any suggestions matter, thanks in advance!
Can’t go wrong with Alpinestars gloves and most types will run a similar size.
They start at the SP series, their “budget” choice that offers decent protection at a nicer pricepoint.
Above that you’ll find the GP Plus as started above - definitely a step up in protection.
One step further would be the GP PRO which is their professional level gear that trades some comfort features for even more safety technology and is “top of the line” for most applications.
Absolute top shelf is SUPERTECH which is built especially for motorsport athletes and whilst it is a great glove, I’d rarely suggest it for “normal folks like us”
Hope this helps!
thank you so much!
The current generation a* smx air gloves suck! I went with it cause they were like 70 $. Threads are starting to come undone after a month of riding.
ooo that’s really helpful to know, thank you!
I’m not sure on ur budget, but If u got about $200 to spare , I’d recommend the Alpinestars GP plus R v3 Gloves. They have some cool colorways and they’re a great glove
i know summers almost over but what summer gloves should i buy? i already have full gauntlet gloves and i want a less bulky pair. not worried about the price just want some opinions on these 3 pairs
I have the SMX-2 in the white and yellow. They’re firstly comfortable gloves. Have enough movement so you can grip the clutch and brake lever. Those are my go to’s. Had em for about 2 years now and still work great.
so far every glove i bought online didnt fit me right and i only realised this, after getting a pair at a store.
Dont order gear online, if you cant send it back for free.
Take this knowlege and learn from my mistakes.
Sadly I bought gloves from a place that offered exchanges but not refunds. First gloves I got were too big. So I exchanged them free of charge for the next size down. The fingers are still too long, but the rest of the glove is too tight... I can barely get my hands in them, yet alone once I finally get one on, I can't get the other on with an already gloved hand.
Really sucks cuz they're a $400 pair of Alpinestar gauntlet style race glove. That I rarely put on.
I've even tried soaking them in water then putting them on and clenching my fists to try and stretch the leather out a tad. No luck.
I second this. I would go to your local cycle gear shop and try on different ones to see what's comfortable. Not all gloves fit the same
Piggy banking off this guy, finding the right gloves in person means you tried on multiple of the same make/model/size because of all the small variances. You'll quickly find that not all gloves are made equally.
This. While 1/16" won't make any difference in a jacket, in a glove it might be a huge difference. Must try them on first.
I have the first pair as well, got them at my local cycle gear. The fit is a bit snug, and the next size up was way too big, but they work well enough in the 110°F weather.
I agree with the snug fitting. I went a size up and it was much better for me though. I got mine at cycle gear too!
Those gloves are great until they get chewed up by a mastiff.
Alpine runs small in my opinion. I wear large and should have bought extra Large
Try m all. Gloves are so personal they're almost impossible to buy from a picture.
I've owned a couple pair of those alpine gloves. Definitely my favorite for daily riding.
I've always been interested about product design and I look at a lot of motorcycle gloves and see quite a few complaints, even from higher-end models. I'd like to see the general consensus on what the community considers to be the best gloves and boots in the game, as I think that market segment doesn't have such clear boundaries as others.
What spurred this thought was the lack of hard scaphoid sliders on "race" style gauntlets. To me, it seems as though the data suggests this should be an essential feature on all motorcycle gloves, especially "race" gauntlets. As with the pinky and ring fingers being attached together.
In terms of boots, I find the high end Sidi offerings cool. I have a lower end pair of Sidi touring boots with none of the fancy replaceable tech. But I have a hard time understanding the functional differences between their higher end boots. I think only a single, maybe two features separate their top end products.
Held, Racer, Knox, PLUS gloves.
Alpinestar, TCX boots.
Seconding Held and Racer for gloves and TCX for boots, also worth mentioning Forma and Gaerne for boots.
Dainese. Hands down. The price reflects the quality. Your skin is worth saving.
Alpinestars hands down beats dainese when it comes to gloves and boots. I'm a huge dainese fan and will always pick my dainese suit when I ride. The only thing I like about dainese is their designs: the all white Druid 3s and torque out 3s are nice as hell
I like my alpinestars just fine but the Dainese have been more durable and the materials feel more well thought out. As with all things two wheeled, personal preference is a thing. Rubber side down.
Interesting. I've always thought highly of Dainese. My leather pants are from them, but I was dumb enough to buy the non-perforated ones. Their boots are as good as their other products?
Gloves from them are great, if you have long fingers.
From my experience, yes. I’ve had alpinestar boots and those are also pretty good as long as you’re not buying their entry level stuff. I tend to err on the side of overprotection. My riding instructor told us “you’ll only need it once. Do you want the sale stuff or the good stuff? “
Boots- Gaerne, Sidi
Gloves- Held, Dainese, Rukka
Came here to say dainese
Not surprised to see that name come up more than once.
Also Held gloves. Most of their gloves made with kangaroo leather, very tough, great protection. Not cheap, their niche is to make great products at prices reasonable for the quality. Very consistent sizing.
Looking to upgrade from my cheap Amazon gloves, would love to hear suggestions!
I prefer a more minimal/cafe aesthetic but looks are secondary. That said I’m not an aggressive rider, mostly commuting or joy rides, no track, no off-road, and not much cold weather riding, so I don’t need anything too intense. Also, ready to spend a bit of money but not trying to go crazy, ideally below $100. Also currently debating if palm sliders are a requirement in my search…
Look up what Torc has to offer. I have a pair of their hawthorns and love them.
Oh dope, my girlfriend has one of their helmets but I didn't even know they made gloves. Those look really nice...
My gf and me both have their T-1 retro helmets. They’re great for the money.
Their gloves run a tiny bit small so if you are on the edge just size up. I have ridden with the gloves in 90° heat and this morning was 40°. 40° is about the limit of comfort. I don’t have any sort of hand guard protection or heated grips.
Knox Orsa or 3. They ....fit like a glove. Pun intended. They are fabulous. A bit heavier on the wallet but so worth it.
The safety features there are great, especially for a shorter glove (which I like) - comfortable? Not too bulky? The pics look a bit bulky but it's also just hard to get pictures of gloves to not look bulky...
They feel great. The only glove that had a perfect fit for me. Great for summer use. Wouldn't say they are bulky.
I picked up some Knox Urbane Pro gloves recently and I’m totally sold! Lots of safety features, comfortable, affordable, tough, understated. Big recommendation from me!
Nice, I've mostly been looking at full leather gloves so far, but might have to keep some textile/mix material ones like these in the running.
Same here, but found these. The slight stretch makes them very comfortable, and they still have leather palms.
Don't buy random gloves that a random guy in the internet recommends, it's a very slim chance you have exactly the same shape hands (hand width, finger length etc.). Go to a store to try them out and get the ones that fit your hands.
Yep, as mentioned in my replies, I'll be trying to go see things IRL, or at the very least will order a few to try on and return what I don't like. Just asking here for some starting points. Plus, even after trying on in store I won't *really* know about durability, comfort while riding, etc., so I'd love to hear other folks experiences.
What motorcycle gear do you own that you will wholeheartedly vouch for? Anything save you in crash? Anything insanely comfortable or high quality? Anything that might be unexpected or some gear people might not think of but you love?
When it is over 85°F — Camelbak. Hydrating while riding is a huge help. Fill with ice, then water/etc…stays cold for 4-5 hour ride.
I throw it over an Alpinestars Bionic Jacket and a motocross jersey, good airflow.
I usually mount it on side tank guard. I also use it while trekking. Yes, it's very convenient.
SMX Plus V2 Boots, beefy race protection all over yet more comfortable than any footwear I own, they also look really sleek and don't have over the top branding like other Alpinestars products.
Cherry on the cake, I got a killer deal on them, 40% off RRP, couldn't say no to that lol.
Any particular kind? I'm a fan of my wool neck gaiter as well.
I have 2 neck gaiters. One for cool weather (Alpinestars dual layer type) and the other for warm weather nights (thin stretchy base material type).
I like the Rockbros CoolMax I think it's called. It's not too long, does the job, and is pretty comfortable in hot weather
I bought mine from Helly Hansen first but lost it, then I bought from Macpac. I assume any decent outdoors equipment store would do.
We have pretty mild summers here. But even with the vents open, I don’t like riding it when it’s more than 90F outside. I have a separate set of mesh gear for that, but the suit is fine for everything I ride in underneath that temp.
Custom earplugs!! Hands down the best purchase I’ve made. Not cheap but worth every penny.
Where did you get these custom made? I’m using plugfones but they are still a wee bit too large for my ears I think.
I used this company.
Aerostich Roadcrafter suit. Comfortable, large vents, full of padding and pockets, repairable, and very quick to get on.
