Sakura's Character and Role
Sakura is a frequent subject of debate among fans. While many criticize her for being annoying or useless, others argue that she is a strong character with significant growth from part 1 to Boruto [5:2],
[5:4]. Her role as a medical ninja is highlighted as crucial, with her contributions saving many lives
[5:12]. However, some feel she suffers from poor writing and lack of screen time, which detracts from her potential
[5:7],
[5:11].
Itachi's Morality and Impact
Itachi's character is another hotly debated topic. Some view him as a hero who made noble sacrifices for the greater good [1:9], while others see him as morally gray at best
[1:5]. His actions are often scrutinized, with discussions on whether his deeds were justified or if he was simply following orders blindly
[4:6]. The complexity of his character adds depth to the narrative, making him a compelling figure in the series
[5:6].
Naruto's Hard Work vs. Destiny
Naruto's journey is often seen as one of hard work and perseverance, but some argue that his achievements are more due to destiny and the Nine Tails than personal effort [3:4]. This perspective challenges the notion of Naruto as a hardworking underdog, suggesting instead that his victories are predetermined
[3:3].
Kishimoto's Writing and Worldbuilding
Opinions on Kishimoto's writing vary widely. Some praise the development of characters like Sasuke and Naruto, while others criticize the worldbuilding and handling of female characters [4]. The influence of editors on the series is noted, suggesting that some aspects of the story may have been shaped by external pressures rather than pure artistic vision
[1:4].
Danzo's Characterization
Danzo is considered by some to be one of the best-written characters in Naruto. He embodies the darker aspects of shinobi society, engaging in espionage and assassination to protect Konoha [3:2],
[3:5]. His actions reflect the harsh realities of the ninja world, making him a controversial yet integral part of the narrative.
For me, it has to be people saying “Kakashi should have died”
This is a pretty ass take, because one Kakashi plays a big part in the war arc with his childhood friend Obito.
If he had died, the story would have feel incomplete look I understand on wanting to see to have more steaks, but this would be a horrible writing if he had died in the pain arc.
Naruto should have ended at the pain arc This is a horrible take as well.
The story show ended on the pain arc is a bad take, if that was the case the story would feel way too incomplete.
When someone argued that Naruto's side characters were wasted and cited :
The daughter of the ramen guy
I am not joking, neither was he
Id honestly say a lot MORE could have been done with the side cast. Alot of them have one or two cool moments to their name, but nothing else. Kankuro comes to mind, same with Kiba, shino, tenten (rip), I could go on
It's not that they disappear, and it's not that they need a spotlight, they just so rarely change or impact the main characters in any real way
People having that sentiment about random characters is hilarious to me.
At least with like Rock Lee, while I don't agree, I can understand their side. I am not going along with the Dosu was wasted narrative.
I unironically think Dosu was wasted, not because he didn't serve his purpose, but because he was way to cool to die as soon as he did
I am pretty sure when people say "a side character was wasted", most of them mean "this cool design/power was wasted on a side character who barely had a screentime". Basically, they just want to see this cool thing more often.
For example, Tayuya had very cool and unique powers, so people who say she was wasted mostly don't care about her backstory, personality or connections with other people, they care about her Flute and want to see more of it even if Tayuya isn't the one using it.
That Sasuke is Sakura's "abuser"
when the entire relationship between them exists because Sakura pursued him and she even consented to his decade long mission. Sasuke only ever attacked her, when she came after him. And even in Part I, people act like he was "unnecessarily mean" to her when he minded his own business.
There's actually a lot of truth to it. I'm not saying it is true, but a LOT of the series was created solely because of the editors, usually for the better
Even the final product is definitely rough around the edges, I love Naruto but good writing isn't the reason
"Kishimoto is a bad writer"
"Sasuke is not likeable"/"Sasuke is not well written"
"Itachi wasn't a hero" I've seen some go as far as to say that he wasn't a good guy overall, which is a take only achievable if you've never read Naruto
Itachi is morally gray absolute best. Agree on everything else though.
"Sakura was annoying and useless"
I just don't see how people come to this conclusion. He had everything going for him and threw away everything, his clan, his image, his life itself to stop an upcoming war, and then spent the rest of hiw life devoted to stopping "Madara" from attacking Konoha. He was literally manipulated into doing what he did to, it's not like he just woke up and thought it was his job to slaughter people. He also arguably had the 3rd biggest impact in winning the war, and died again for Konoha
I agree. Aside from Naruto and probably Hashirama, he's the best guy in the series
Anyone have something they like about the show most people seem to meme on/complain about? For me I love the junky animation in the pain fight. I always interpreted it as the characters moving so fast because they're so powerful that it's how the fight would look to a more 'normal' person. I also dig the style a lot it's very unique
Idk if this is a hot take or not but, War arc Climax is the best part of the series.
I dug most of the war arc. It just felt like they lost the plot a little bit towards the end, especially with the reincarnation shit but all the fights were a1 and Madara and Obito were great villains, and we got some good screen time for some cool characters who probably wouldn't have had a chance otherwise.
I think the ending is what took me out of it a little personally
Scorching hot take
The worldbuilding and female cast is not nearly as bad as people make them out to be
I like the Kaguya fight, don’t care about the story but the fight itself was a breath of fresh air after SO6P Obito & Madara fights
I agree about Kaguya. The only thing I liked about her was how she shook up the fight scenes and challenged the crew in a way they’ve never experienced before. The dimension hopping was fun and vibrant.
It was getting really old watching everyone fight Obito & Madara for what felt like 200+ episodes, week after week after week. The plot barely felt like it was going anywhere until Zetsu showed up.
My other hot take is that Naruto has great female characters. I feel like the inclusion of women is adequate and realistic. In real life too all the presidents are men until they aren't. And ninja is a profession that skews male but still most teams have 2 boys and 1 girl and I feel like that's a fair representation of the intended audience.
I am glad they never had a storyline about a girl wanting to become a ninja and people telling her she can't do it because she's a girl. In Naruto gender just doesn't matter, there's just less female characters, which likely reflects the readership of a shonen magazine.
Yes the women often have crushes and are healers, but I feel like in a way he gets women.
In many ways Naruto was ahead of its time in terms of feminism.
Tsunade was considered the strongest ninja in Konoha at one point in time - maybe equal to Jiraiya only. She took on the responsibility of defending Konoha, with the specific goal of fighting Orochimaru the next time he attacked the village. This never came to be because while Orochimaru was rebuilding his strength, the Akatsuki became problematic and then Orochimaru died. She would have fought Pain (and maybe she should have fought him sooner), but she used all her chakra to heal the citizens (already a really strong move). At that point her strongest ninja beside herself was Kakashi (Guy wasn't there?) and then Naruto who surpassed Kakashi with futon rasengan. Naruto came back from Mount Myoboku exponentially stronger so at that point he was the strongest ninja in the village.
Hinata's dad has only daughters and never once considers them less suitable to be his heir than Neji.
Many characters fight alongside their dad, but Kiba fights alongside his mom (and sister). She's an active kunoichi despite having two kids (and being a single mom).
My hot take is that the series is good from start to finish.
I like tenten
Making some YouTube content and need some of you guys “hot takes”. Could be any opinion basically, but I’ll start:
There’s no way Sakura could ever surpass Tsunade, considering biology. Senjus are superior to Sakura’s clan. Don’t get me wrong, the Sakura hate train is corny- she’s clearly strong as she was able to fight a Tsudo 9 tails but I don’t think anything suggest Tsunade wouldn’t have been able to do the same.
Another hot take of mine is that Tsunade could have beaten the Paths of Pain, however, it wasn’t her fight to fight.
They don’t have to be fight oriented, these are just the first that comes to my mind.
Danzo is one of (if not the) best written characters in the series. He is the epitome of a "shinobi" and personifies the entire world the author built.
Hot take: Naruto is not a character who should be known for hard work. Yes, there are times that he does work hard but most of his achievements come from the fact that he is either destined or because of the nine tails. It’s especially annoying in his fight with Neji cause Naruto just ninetailed his way to victory.
I agree to an extent. Although he did show tremendous gut and determination in mastering the rasengan and rasenshuriken. But the entire hard work thing was ruined when he was revealed to be Ashura’s descendant. This felt like a slap to the face for characters like Rock Lee. Was kinda disappointed.
His methods are what make his character so good. Danzō haters conveniently forget that shinobi society includes grown adults watching children murder one another in the Chunin exams. It's an annual cultural custom for shinobi. Celebrated even. Shinobi culture includes their favorite Hokages sending kids on combat and war missions, resulting in many of them KIA.
What in the series is darker than that? Nothing. But you never see fans hate other characters for participating in this culture and furthering it.
But Danzō engaging in espionage, assassinations, counter intelligence, and government control is somehow worse? Are you kidding me? This guy is the asshole? The guy who operates his own clandestine black ops militia and does the dirty work so that kids don't need to do be put in those situations? Please. How about thanking Danzō?
Danzō never committed any crimes against other nations. Why? Because it's fair. They all do it. Every other nation has a Danzō. They're just not as good as him so it looks like he's always the one screwing the other people over.
Danzō doesn't operate on faith or trust. He operates on reality and certainty. Danzō would be just as uncomfortable with a plan that had a 10% success chance as he would one with a 90% success chance. That is why he screwed the Uchiha over. Was there a chance to avoid a civil war by placing faith in Shusui and Itachi? Sure. But it was a certainty that if they were all dead, the war doesn't happen.
That was easy an decision for Danzō. Probably didn't even need to sleep on it. He is the most realistic, grounded and well written character.
Those two aren’t hot takes just wrong sorry. But love the tsunade prop
Itachi is a pretty lazily written character that large portions of the fandom have circlejerked themselves into believing is well written because he has so much surface-level coolness.
Actual unpopular opinion, Itachi fans will be on your ass at any moment.
Not really, just because you can't undesrtand his choices doesn't mean he it's bad written
Hot takes? 🤔
Howabout this fandom puts far too much stock in clan names and doesn't seem to understand much about how inheritance actually works.
Like for instance, assuming that someone having a Senju grandfather (whose full parentage is unknown) and an Uzumaki grandmother (whose full parentage is unknown) will automatically have all the best traits of both clans even when their own full parentage is unknown.
Or for another example, assuming that someone who doesn't come from a big name clan couldn't also have some OP inherited traits, perhaps from ancestors who were members of a big name clan that married outside of it, perhaps recessive traits that were passed along for generations just waiting for someone with the right combination to be expressed.
There's my hot take. 🤷♀️
Is it that common? I'll admit to be guilty of wanting to see Tsunade using Wood Release but I haven't seen a lot of people talk about that, or were you just using her as an example?
Edit: oooh I just realized this was a response to OP talking about Sakura and Tsunade.
>I just realized this was a response to OP talking about Sakura and Tsunade.
lol
Partly.
You see people talking about Sarada being "half-Uchiha" or Boruto being "1/4 Uzumaki" pretty often.
No because there’s hot takes and just factually wrong
I saw this from tiktok and i dont think I've ever agreed with anything more in my life, would like to add that i dont think kishimoto is as a good as a writer as ppl think he is.
I think his best work was the way he wrote Sasuke and Naruto, how he made it so easy to route for the characters and love their journey. But the world building isnt my favourite, also the way he failed the female characters pisses me off honestly...
cringe edgy takes. Obito is responsible for like 80% of chaos that happened in the series, itachi entire life crime is probably just another Sunday for Obito and Madara is a dick who oppress other villages as seen in Ohnoki flashback
After meeting Madara, Obito’s goal changed. Instead of being Hokage, he wanted to become the greatest ninja war criminal in the land of ninja world criminals.
I’d say he succeeded with passing marks.
(Only contention are Oro and Danzo who do more heinous shit but on a smaller scale than him)
Obito is not responsible for 80% of chaos, it's literally Zetsu lol, but w/e.
Without zetsu we would have had Shisui,Itachi,Minato,Jiraiya,Tsunade, Orochimaru,Hiruzen,Kushina, Sasuke, White Fang, Kakashi, Fugaku, etc. Imagine this as a team versus other villages, ITS JOEVER.... nobody would have attacked Konoha, and if they did it would have been over in an INSTANT.
Just the uchihas alone would have been crazy to watch in missions.
This is crap because Naruto did save the world from calamity. He won the war and stoped the wars between nations. Under his reign, the amount of casualties were less than the previous hokages. He also had more longer periods of peace than any other hokages.
Facts. Also, I'd like to add that Gaara's reign as Kazekage contributed a lot to that peace and are super underrated. Gaara stabilized the sand village, was the most unifying voice of the 5 kage during the war arc, and continued to pursue that afterwards. It's ironic considering his start in the series, but he ends up being one of the most understanding of other's perspectives in the whole story
Much of Naruto's long period of peace is due mostly to Kakashi though. A few years after Naruto became Hokage, the world was rocked by new threats, threats that Naruto ultimately could not respond to.
And was the reason in the first place that things got even worse for the Uchiha because the villagers were both suspicious of them and angry with them for not helping during the kyuubi attack when they were not allowed to AFAIK.
Tbh, I don't understand people labeling either Obito or Itachi as heroes, even though I'm just a general Uchiha simp/fan/glazer- idk. All the major Uchiha characters are either villains (perhaps sympathetic villains in some cases, but still) or anti-heroes.
Except Sarada, but that's in a genjutsu of the future. /s
maybe i am blind. but where was kishimotos writing ability even mentioned?? it just talks about stuff fans say
>Whereas Itachi.... followed orders, saved the village by preventing a coup, spied on the Akatsuki for Konoha and Ultimately died trying his best to push his brother to be as strong as possible.
So that makes it ok? He blindly followed orders, so serving your country by killing your kin is noble? Saved the village? By the amount of eyes we see Obito had, flashbacks scenes the Uchiha wasn’t even that big of a clan, you’re telling me they were going to be able to take control of the leaf all by themselves? If they could’ve taken over the leaf then any other nation could’ve also invaded and taken over. This doesn’t even make sense.
Itachi spied? He provided 0 intel to the leaf!
He tortured his brother who he was supposedly protecting lmao. Want to get stronger? Yeah, hate me more. Tsukuyomi your ass lil bro’
>Itachi wanted to save and protect and build stronger, Obito wanted to watch it all burn down.
He killed the clan to protect the village just because he got told that killing them would stop the coup, as if there wasn’t any other way to bargain.
Hiruzen was just as shitty as Danzo because he didn’t even try. “Hey Shisui use your jutsu on Fugaku” lmao what? Get your ass up and use diplomacy or something your lazy old man.
Swagkage mentioned, best youtuber of Naruto, My GOAT.
" Itachi was wrong, but atleast he did it for a noble cause and it saved more people than it killed "
oh yeah? don't forget the part where he also KILLED more people in which that is the entire Uchiha clan
ooh no, don't get me started with reversing the facts " b-but it's Obito that killed the children " nope, it's ITACHI that killed the children, women, civilians.. meanwhile Obito only helps a little bit by dealing with Uchiha Police Force to make Itachi's " killing civilians " task easier. and it's still bad! killing is killing! no matter who you kill... no defending Itachi here.
you know what... " atleast "
atleast in Obito's case, in the end, he shielded Naruto from getting killed thus protecting the next generation of Shinobi and the future
" A Shinobi life is measured by what he did before he dies " - Jiraiya
unlike Itachi who just... died...
Most of these are crap. For example the obito and Itachi comparison makes sense on the surface but if you think about it then it falls apart. Itachi killed his clan because they were about to start a rebellion/he was coerced and even with that he didn't kill nearly as many people as obito. Obito lost one girl and decides to attack his teacher and former home killing a lot of people then eventually starts the 4th great ninja war which kills even more people. His crimes make Itachi look like a saint in comparison, especially since all of itachi's crimes were also obito's crimes since obito helped itachi kill the uchiha.
Edit: actually I forgot he was also the reason Danzo was even able to instigate the rebellion because his attack on the village and murder of Minato. Honestly probably a good thing he died, imagine naruto trying to have him redeemed.
For me its that Sasuke looks a 100000000 times better in Boruto(the only character to look better in Boruto)
Sakura is not as bad as people make her out to be. She has her flaws. Sakura does have growth from part 1 to part 2 to Boruto. She is a badass.
Sakura’s not as bad as people make her out to be, but she still suffers from poor writing and a lack of screen time. Not really a fan of her character because of it
I mean, Naruto wasn’t some annoying crazed horny fan girl. Naruto Is Sasuke’s biggest fan definitely, but not because he’s good looking or the last Uchiha. Naruto understood Sasuke & was willing to do whatever It took to save him. That Is love.
Sakura is a strong character. People call her useless, but medical ninjas are more important than people think. A lot of people would be dead without her.
Her haters tend to overlook the fact that she's a medic ninja and her first priority is to save people rather than engaging in a battle.
Her haters don't like annoying people. Or are you gonna tell me Sakura was not the epitome of annoyance early in the anime? The typical fangirl drooling over a psychopathic asshole, while being abusive to everyone else.
Power-wise? I think she is one of the strongest kunoichi and probably the 2nd best medic ever. But her character is (well, was) complete shit.
She does save Naruto when he has Kurama extracted from his body. She’s just annoying in the anime.
However, she spent most of Shippuden (especially the fillers) doing nothing other than the Sasori fight and the Kaguya fight. Basically didn't do anything against anybody else.
Considering that Shippuden was basically a showcase of all the strongest ninjas of all-time, and considering how many of them are super fast, Sakura was done dirty by getting so much strength and so little speed. She scarcely ever got matched-up with an opponent slow enough and durable enough to really highlight her good qualities.
I liked Itachi when he was a cautionary tale of child soldiers and alienation. Kinda sucks to throw all those themes away or to turn them into actually being a child soldier is good and was the best for Konoha in the end. Itachi as a tragic tale of a child who was drafted early and never got to be a human or have connections was good leading to him killing his own familiy for power was neat.
I didn’t it was ok I actually though naruto was into sasuke until he started doing stuff for hinata
Yeah, the fact that he was supposed to be feeding information on the Akatsuki to Konoha yet the latter still had no clue what to do about them rubs me the wrong way.
Mighty Guy is often used as comic relief. However, he's genuinely an awesome person. He actively petitioned the Third Hokage to transfer Kakashi out of ANBU for his own well-being. Kakashi went from being a stone-cold killer, isolated from his peer group from the Academy, to an excellent sensei who overcame his darkness. Mighty Guy did much to make that transition happen.
If Shisui was not beaten by Danzo and the entire ANBU, the show would’ve been called Shisui instead of Naruto and the entire plot and events would be drastically different.
Gai should have died. Naruto randomly getting resurrection powers completely invalidated his sacrifice and also stuck him with life in a wheelchair and is honestly just sad. We were robbed of the ultimate character death and perfect sendoff.
Gai does not get enough recognition for literally saving the entire world. Without him to smack Madara around long enough for Naruto to arrive, everyone would be fucked. Gai is both the strongest ninja and the most important and deserves at the very, very least, a spot on Hokage mountain.
lol I love that respect for Gai. Truly the epitome of a genius work ethic, and is among the strongest in the entire series off sheer willpower, discipline, and tenacity. I loved the flashbacks just before he used the 8 gates (with his dad and meeting Kakashi) that gave us amazing insight into the foundation of his character.
I definitely agree with 2 and some of three - but one is plain wrong. Let's say Shisui survives because Danzo is no longer interested in the Sharingan. It doesn't change the fact that, most likely, Itachi and now Shisui still take part in the Uchiha Massacre. And if you wanna argue that the Uchiha Massacre never happens, which I don't quite understand why, it doesn't change the fact that Naruto is still the Nine Tails Jinchuriki and while still being put in situations where the seal weakens allowing more Kurama chakra to leak out, and he will most likely eventually become a perfect Jinchuriki and sage. The only person that gets nerfed if you keep Shisui and the rest of the Uchiha alive is Sasuke, who never leaves the village in search of greater power to kill Itachi and avenge his family.
Itachi's abilities in Shippuden got out of hand and started screwing the powerscaling. If you look him you lose, if he points at you, you lose, if he wants to go all out he gets a mech and undying flames, it's not even strategy just nonsense.
Six Paths Madara's regen was overloaded bs and he shouldn't have been able to recover (especially so quickly) after Night Gai. It should've been, Night Guyi shuts Madara down to almost death -> Guy dies -> Zetsu bullshit kicks in right before they seal Madara -> Kaguya bullshit happens.
Neji dying over the irrelevant Hyuga Clan leader is a slap to his whole character arc. Main branch still main branches and we lose a beloved grown side character to a glorified splinter.
BONUS* Orochimaru somewhat becoming fodder in comparison to the cast is blasphemy. Sure losing to Itachi is reasonable, but him getting instant Genjutsu'd to loss does Orochimaru, a legendary Sannin feared by nearly all in the first whole show a huge disservice.
Also fuck Susanoo.
Agreed on everything but Itachi. His whole thing was kinda being broken for the verse with a huge downside. As strong as he was, he was going blind and dying of illness simultaneously. It was okay for him to be OP considering how he was mainly a plot device for Sasuke.
Tbf I'd say madara was when the series powerscaling started going haywire. Every single appearance of his just broke the series (from a powerscaling standpoint). Also, orochimaru being fodder is good imo. It goes on to show us how strong the main cast have gotten since part 1. Itachi beating orochimaru was also fair since orochimaru himself says that he was even less of a prodigy that sasuke who in turn was less talented than itachi. Plus, itachi caught him off guard. Orochimaru would've performed much better had it been a full fledged fight.
I'll give you some actual hot takes
It's better that we don't know anything about Sakumo because if we learned more about him it would ruin the mystery/hype
It's understandable that none of the older villagers wanted to adopt the Kyubi's vessel.
The reincarnation plot was a good late addition to the series
Agree with 3 for sure. I never even knew people hated the reincarnation ending until I joined this sub lol
Hebi sasuke was the best version of sasuke
The power scaling got out of hand as soon as susanoo was introduced
Sasuke beat deidara without any plot armour
People who disagree with 3 need to realise that the substitution jutsu is a more fast-paced maneuver than what Sasuke did and it's taught to genin. His reverse-summon wasn't nearly as plot-armoury as people make it out.
I see people ask why none of the villagers adopted Naruto all the time lol
Eta: add on about nagato he was 100% a hypocrite. He couldn't "let go" or "find peace" with his parents being accidentally killed by leaf Shinobi in the war, BUT he was 100% okay with being fed, trained, and cared for BY a leaf Shinobi later on.
Mine is fuck the whole black zetsu backstabbing Madara thing, we could’ve had a sick 4v2 but nooooo.
Itachi is poorly written as a character.
Elaborate.
Massive Mary Sue. He’s the undisputed king of asspulls and everyone in the narrative is constantly wanking him and talking about how awesome he is.
Final fight should be between Juubi Madara vs revived Hashirama
Revived Hashirama is leagues weaker, if that’s the case Madara should’ve stayed the same as an edo, because the moment he got revived, he was shitting on him, and the Juubi is way too much.
That’s the point: I want Hashirama to get Hagoromo’s power instead of naruto & Sasuke
The show should've ended after Pain. With a final arc for Sasuke vs Naruto and thats it.
I’d agree but then there will be a lot of unfinished things. We wouldn’t have got to the other tailed beasts, peace was never achieved (Naruto’s dream), Danzo’s death, the other villages and especially the masked man.
And the other Akatsuki members.
Nagato should have stayed the original owner of the rinnegan.
Obviously it could have been written way better, but Sasusaku wasn't as bad as people say it was. Here's someone's analysis that I think is amazing, but a lot of people disagree with me and deem there was nothing redeeming and zero build up, so that's why it's a hot take since my opinion isn't popular
https://sasusakuanalysis.tumblr.com/post/172086469375/from-sasukes-perspective
hot take...
me too.
Apparently no opinions allowed on the naruto subreddit.
Pain arc definitely did a lot of things right
The chuunin exam/invasion arc and the pain arc are two of my absolute favorites
The chunin exam arc introduced these characters we fondly look back on. Invasion arc showed us the broader shinobi world and what all this training could amount to - all out ninja-on-ninja war. I enjoyed the invasion arc too for that reason, it just felt ‘bigger’
Shikamaru v hidan was a personal fave
oh man I think about that every day. sage cloak naruto was goat character design
Just nod and agree with Naruto fans dude, straight up you can’t have any opinions about what you think is cool here… I mean Boruto bad!
yeah I see that now lol. I could have sworn I've seen lots of people get backlash because of this opinion
it's because the people getting backlash think the pain arc should've been the end. my god.
Maybe you saw people get backlash because of their opinion on the ending of the arc. That’s the only controversial part.
I feel like the backlash is for people who say “the series should have ended with the pain arc”
lol I swear I saw people get criticized for saying this, but apperently its a super popular take and Im like "wtf" lol
The pacing was definitely a problem in the anime but it is a really difficult task imo to introduce so many new characters and make them important in a short span of time. Everyone almost instantly loved Rock Lee, Neji was loved by some and hated by some but tbh I loved his personality and imo he had the best character design in OG Naruto (even better than Sasuke and Shino), Hinata instantly became a girl everyone wanted to cheer for because of her acquiring a never giving up attitude from Naruto to prove her dad and Neji wrong, Gaara was a menace everyone feared, Shikamaru also became a really well received character and finally, Orochimaru scared the shit out of every single person watching Naruto by doing all that shit in the forest of death. Kishimoto already had proved himself capable of writing a really good antagonist in the form of Zabuza but he took it a step further by writing a character like Orochimaru. The three stages of exams were also brilliantly planned and written imo. Its still considered one of the best anime tournament arcs ever if not the best and there is a strong reason for that. Also, The Chunin Exams arc had my favorite OP from OG Naruto. Most of the people prefer OP5 over OP2 but I liked OP2 a bit more than OP5. So, in short, it is a really good arc imo but its okay if you dont like it since you are entitled to have an opinion.
The final battle between Shikamaru and Hidan was okay. I wish Ino and Choji actually did something useful. I wish Team Asuma as a whole worked together to defeat Hidan, not just shikamaru alone. As for Kakuzu, the way he was defeated felt so cheap. He just waited for Naruto to charge his attack and then got outplayed by the oldest trick in the book.
Yeah, this is one of the most common criticisms for Naruto.
The setup to the arc was great, with Shikamaru grieving and apparently coming up with the perfect plan to defeat the duo with just his team. However, everything about the execution felt rushed. Two thirds of Inoshikacho were given nothing to do, and Naruto's victory was not satisfying either, not only because he had no personal connection to Kakuzu, but also because he had to be dumbed down to be defeated.
If Ino and Choji at least stalled Kakuzu to buy some time for Naruto and showed off their improvement over the timeskip, I think a lot of my issues with this arc would be fixed, but I hate how they were portrayed and how the author was only interested in Shikamaru and couldn't care less about them.
I completely agree with that, you notice very quickly that Kishimoto has his favorites and which character he would like to focus on. In Asuma's team for example, but also in Team 7, Sakura is unfortunately the character who is very neglected, and even a supporting character like Shikamaru has gotten more depth and relevance from the author, even though she is the female lead.
Honestly great point. I feel like they could have included team kurenai to balance it out instead of having Naruto. Have ino-Cho-kakashi-kur-kiba-shino-hinata all work together to take down kakuzu
Kakuzu is a pretty disappointing Akatsuki member when it comes to his death.
Sasori's villain arc started when his parents died. He made puppets so they could still hug him. He died because he hesitated by instinctively letting his parents hug him.
Hidan was the immortal massochist who killed Asuma. He was left in pain to live forever in a hole by Asuma's student.
Deidara had a mirrored relationship with Itachi to Sasuke. It has driven them both to get stronger and do terrible things. But only one of them can be the one to kill him.
Itachi was Sasuke's whole character motivation. The seemingly unsurpassable brother.
Pain was Jiraiya's student and agreed that the cycle is hatred must be ended. But he took to evil means to do so. Naruto allowed him to see hope again.
Konan did everything for her friends and died trying to protect their honour.
Kisame lived most of his life killing comrades but instead killed himself out of loyalty to them.
Obito is a mirror to Naruto. He caused great pain to Naruto and Sasuke and hated Kakashi but he died to save the three of them.
Kakuzu was a very old guy who was killed by a young guy.
Felt like Naruto took the spotlight from them when it was supposed to be about Team 10 getting revenge for Asuma
Naruto should not have been involved in that fight at all.
It would showcase that Naruto isn't the only shinlbi that matters in the verse and have given more payoff to other characters.
It also would have made the rasenshuriken reveal way better since he'd have first used it against pain after several chapters of buildup and hype surrounding it.
Just have the rasenshuriken showing against Pain be more impactful. Especially since we already knew the Rasenshuriken was dangerous to the user before the whole Kakuzu thing.
Well it is close range and then Naruto has to build upon the move once again after we established how dangerous the move is. I don’t think him being involved was necessarily that bad, just have Kakuzu lose to Choji, Ino, and Naruto together. In a way it better emphasizes that the new generation have surpassed the old and his time is up
Instead of Just having Kakuzu be suddenly mentally challenged and get blitzed by base Naruto when Kakashi was slower than Kakuzu. Despite Kakashi being fast enough to keep up max power Pain when Sage Naruto was relative to a weakened one.
Having other Shinobi assist Naruto in getting the hit off would have been waaaay better and shown that Naruto has grown as a person who is willing to fight in a team while not destroying Kakuzu's Aura.
It would also be a much better way to display the legacy of his father (Rasenshuriken) in helping him with the fight of his life AFTER Minato already saves Naruto from the Nine-Tails in that same fight.
He gets help, then he uses his own ability to surpass the foundation left by Minato in overwhelming Pain.
It would also be a symbolic way of both of Jiraiya’s other students coming together to stop Jiraiya’s rogue student.
Rather than him just using such a meaningful jutsu on some half-dead old man he has no connection to.
I mean, it is unrealistic to think chunin stand a chance against Kinkaku, or that a chunin level shinobi could mind control Obito, but they still pulled those things off. Stalling Kakuzu for a while, especially when they are supposed to be a stall team, is nothing crazy imo.
This generally bothers me in many Fighting Shonen, the protagonist is the "god" on whom everyone has hoped and waited for so long and saves the team with the last final and necessary blow. The indomitable hero, it's a common and clichéd Shonen trope.
Why is Konoha doing all the work against an international terrorist organization? I never thought about it until now but some of the other countries really should have taken down a member or two instead of letting Konoha and Sasuke do all the work.
Why would anyone accept guarding the kid that caused at least one death to a loved of his/her
Did you not see how quick the top ninjas were up to "get rid of Naruto" the moment they knew he stole the scroll
True but A. It’s not his fault and B. Do they seriously have zero respect for Minato? Kakashi and Jiraiya of all people should’ve stepped up.
Do you realize that Kakashi is 14/15 when Naruto was born lmao?
Jirayia wasn't in the village for a good while and I don't think his personality would be fit to raise a baby that young
Naruto isn't at mistake we know that as the audience but the villager saw them as one
Iruka lost his parents due to 9 Tails attack but accepted Hiruzen's orders
Same reason, kakashi, iruka, jiraya, ebisu helped him trained. Same reason guy treated Naruto like a normal person and not a monster 🤣
Mostly due to retcons.
But aside from that. Konohamaru is related to him and his dead sons son. Naruto isn't.
And Who would want to look after Naruto? Kakashi also didn't offer and he's universally loved.
And in what world would giving Naruto special treatment be fair in a village that is made up of Orphans due to the 9 tails attack.
What about them? Hiruzen couldn't afford to show special treatment to the kid everyone hates.
We see that Hokage position doesn't actually pay all that well. So Hiruzen is basically giving Naruto his monthly wage.
Pretty anything questionable about the series is because of retcons. The entire plot of Shippuden is based around Kishimoto retconning in Tailed Beasts and one big original one.
>The third Hokage is infuriating,
He knew how the villagers hated Naruto and was a soft ruler.
Hiruzen could've used his authority to force any adult to take care of Naruto but that doesn't mean he'd be loved or that there wouldn't be a risk of traitors who'd kill him.
Kakashi isn't a suitable candidate; he's a mentally drained kid who was FOURTEEN years old when Naruto was born. Tf kind of parent would he be?
Jiraiya? Just like Tsunade, dude was gone and hard to find and even if they found him, he'd never take responsibility same as he didn't wanna be Hokage.
The Sarutobi clan? Not even Konohamaru had his parents around.
Hiruzen himself? Naruto would end up like Boruto, home alone all day and basically the same because Hiruzen's wife died.
Basically, Naruto was cooked.
In my headcanon Shikaku was more than intelligent enough. Both emotionally and logically, as well as being enough of a "fuck them I'll do me" type of person "as seen by him asking shikamaru "well what do you think of naruto?.....then just treat him like that" type of guy that hiruzen could've just been like "hey shikaku, will you take the kid do dinner and teach him some shit on your days off and I'll pay you out of the 4ths MASSIVE estate" and he would've gone "aight".
I can't believe for a second he wasn't aware of jinchuriki and that it wasn't narutos fault
I can't believe for a second he was a dumb as the rest of the village to not realize the blonde haired blue eyed kid who showed up after the 9 months pregnant kushina and lord 4th fucking die and a tailed beast dissappears.
He was most certainly proven to not hate naruto like the rest of the village.
I think he deadass only didn't step up cuz he's a fucking nara and it would've been a "drag" or "bothersome" and maybe just trusted the 3rd had it more handled than he did.
Honestly I think the writing is just unrealistic that only the fucking Ramen guy gave 0 fucks. Hell, kinda risked his business by caring for naruto. I get that Mikoto Uchiha couldn't because of politics/danzo. But like, it doesn't track with me that the Nara and by extent the akamichi didn't invite the lonely kid over for fucking dinner once a month or something. It just doesn't click as realistic for me.
Shikaku is smart, they're all smart. Facts are Naruto was feared by everyone in the village. Even Jiraiya. Its like having a nuke in your house.
You guys are so naive and just forgetting the entire premise of the series.
I don't think that the grandson of the third got a personal trainer and the son of the fourth got dick? When did naruto get a trainer?
When anyone tries to defend hiruzen this is exactly what I think of. His grandson had parents and he gave the kid a 24/7 Tutor. Why the actual fuck didn't naruto get fucking anything
