TL;DR
Popular Nightlife Areas
Soho and Shoreditch are frequently mentioned as top nightlife spots in London. Soho is known for its vibrant bar scene and intimate places for a drink [1:2], while Shoreditch offers a lively atmosphere with a mix of bars and clubs
[1:1]. Brixton also comes highly recommended for its diverse range of venues, including the Effra Social and Dogstar
[2:3]. Dalston is another popular area, noted for its unique and engaging venues like the Dalston Superstore
[5:6].
Music and Entertainment Venues
For live music enthusiasts, Ronnie Scott's in Soho is a world-class jazz club that occasionally hosts celebrity gigs [2:2]. If you're looking for a nightclub experience, Tape and Libertine are popular choices among visitors
[4:2]. For those interested in more underground or quirky venues, Southbank/Borough/Bermondsey Street offers a great bar and pub scene
[5:1].
Unique Experiences
London's nightlife also includes unique experiences such as jazz bars, which are recommended even for those who aren't typically fans of jazz due to their magical ambiance [2:5]. Additionally, Borshtch n Tears offers a fun and different dining experience
[2:5].
Considerations for Visitors
When planning a night out in London, it's important to consider the type of experience you're seeking. Whether you're looking for a laid-back evening at a bar or an energetic night at a club, London's diverse nightlife has something to offer. It's also worth noting that some areas, like Mayfair, can be challenging to access without reservations or memberships [3].
I’m staying around Euston St area on Saturday night. Could somebody recommend where the best area is to go for a few drinks? Never been out in London before. It looks like there is a lot of places in Soho?
It depends on what you want, Soho is great for bar type restaurants and for intimate places for a drink (try Millroys secret whisky bar) but not that great for late night drinking (unless you know people / have a membership) or dancing (for both of these you are better off in Vauxhall / Shoreditch).
Thanks for the recommendations.
No worries, have fun!
Angel is close by with lots of bars and decent places to eat, also past Dalston Stoke Newington has lots of decent bars too. Brixton or Peckham too
Thank you :)
Soho or Shoreditch. On a weekend both suffer from OUT OF TOWNERS from E**ex, but they’re reliable. Dalston further north is a good strip, too.
Dalston also filled with out of towers who just happen to live here now.
Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
Hello! My long-distance partner and I are finally meeting for the first time. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of fun things to do in London as a couple?
Any suggestions welcome, but we are quite interested in the London nightlife. Any areas which are good for food, drinks and music?
Thanks in advance!
Search for a jazz bar. Regardless if you like jazz or not. For some unapparent reason jazz gigs always turns out magical.
If you really hate jazz take your partner to Borshtch n Tears - Борщ И Слёзы. It will be an fun experience. https://maps.app.goo.gl/RJFUGJqKk6wXiNTs50
Go to Ronnie Scott's, if you can get in it's world class jazz and occasional celeb gigs.
Thank you!
A classic!
Soho, Shoreditch, Clapham or Brixton. You’ll find a good concentration of bars in these areas.
Thanks for this!
My friends and I (18-26F) are coming to London for the first time Jan 16-20 but can’t figure out where to go out in the evenings. We heard of Mayfair but that it can be hard to get into certain places? We prefer hip hop/r&b/pop but honestly anywhere with a good vibe!
Hi, your post has been removed because we get asked the same questions again and again. Our wiki is a great resource for regularly asked London questions and is packed full of information and advice.
If you have further specific questions you can post in our weekly FAQ thread or even try our Visitor Centre on the London Discord, thanks!
Maybe the Blues Kitchen in Brixton? But I am old , so 🤷🏼♀️
Soho, Shoreditch & Piccadilly square/Leicester Square
I’m tryna find some good nightclubs, me and my friends are going to London this weekend. We’re Americans so tryna get some recommendations
Tape, libertine, proud late
Lounges: Hayatt Greenwich, Eaden London
Used to be dancetunnel so I guess it’s fabric now
raves r where its at or events in general theyre cheaper
Wait you guys leave your mothers basements?
😂😂
😂
Tape
Preferably, quirky, underground just different bars.
Southbank/Borough/Bermondsey street - great bar/pub scene
Shhh Bermondsey street is supposed to be a secret......
Edit: South Bank/ Borough - great bar/pub scene :D
Yeah big fan of this. I live south, most of my mates live north, so it's also a handy middle ground for meeting.
I actually like Finsbury Park / Holloway Rd area.
Something like The Lamb to New River Studios to Orleans is a fun night.
Not a fan of Finsbury Park area (near the station at least) but Holloway Road has got some awesome venues.
I would probably say Dalston, but I’m biased as I lived there for years and then only moved down the road.
Dalston is the answer!
Dalston isn’t as good as it used to be
Is that Hackney way? I've heard its pretty good hackney nower days
Dalston Superstore is the answer. There is nowhere in London as bizarre, beautiful, and engaging as Superstore.
And if anyone knows anywhere else please tell me as I've been looking for decades.
Deptford
I know that this sub is already very London centric even though it has members from everywhere, but not being a Londoner myself and living in a country with a fairly grim club scene (Ireland), a trip to London a few times a year for a good night in the club is well worth it considering the cheap Ryanair flights and that I've a good mate's couch to crash on when I'm there. She's also big into clubbing and often goes on her own.
What are your favourite clubs or club nights in London? It's difficult to know what's worth making the trip for.
I've been to Phonox to see Call Super. Music was unsurprisingly outstanding, but the crowd left me a bit cold. Full of Etonian type lads and fuck me, it was a chatty crowd with the sound of conversations audible over the music for a good chunk of the night.
Fabric, which I know is deemed "uncool" by a lot of people these days, was an incredible experience. Loved the soundsystem and the music from Shanti Celeste's and Saoirse's curated night was brilliant. Great, up for it crowd too. It was like Fort Knox to get into, though.
FOLD, hands down the best club in london! Always a great crowd, LGBTQ friendly, amazing soundsystem!
Really? That’s my one big gripe with FOLD. The bass is totally uninspiring.
They updated the sound system few months ago, comfortably best sound in London for me now
FOLD, Venue MOT, Lion and Lamb, the Cause, the Goose, Corsica and Star Lane Pizza Bar are all great.
Fabric has a great sound system and lineups but a terrible crowd unless you go after 4am or on a Sunday.
What's the vibe at Lion and Lamb? Is it a pub with a basement venue for gigs? Can you turn up there without booking anything?
lion and lamb is like a huge afters spot. went there after carnival for wigflex and the scenes in there...
It’s a smallish pub with a dance area and sofa area, just one floor. Always a good crowd and good vibes when I’ve been. You can buy on the door but I’d recommend getting a ticket before on RA because they sell out quickly.
MOT and Ormside Projects are the best clubs / have the best programming imo
+1. But FOLD on the perfect night/day is still probably the best clubbing I’ve had in London.
agreed that fold is a nicer environment than those two (especially MOT lol) but the programming isn't as much to my taste as others
FOLD is great
The Cause was good, haven’t been to the new venue tho
Lion & lamb is much more chill but has great DJs playing there. It’s a pub that turns almost club at night, but we’ll put together
Corsica and FOLD for the sound alone. I also like the size of them where it's very easy to find your mates when you eventually get separated + a crowd that's there to dance.
I know that sounds like a basic question but I went to Paris for the weekend and I was amazed by the café-bars – you can just sit at a table and have a drink of whatever you like until all times of morning.
Whereas in London you either have everything shut at 11 (looking at you, Westminster council), or anything that is open later has incredibly loud music or is just an actual club. This is a criminal way to run a night time economy.
So where in London can you go and just drink and chat until the really small hours?
Dunno where you are but The Lexington is a great bar and it closes at 4 on the weekend but usually drones on till about 4:30 if it’s busy.
There’s the bar downstairs and the dancefloor upstairs. It’s the only spot I’ve been to that’s gone back to it’s pre-covid numbers.
Shacklewell Arms in Dalston is a great spot too. Closes at 3 on weekends. If you say where you are I might have suggestions closer to you. As a general rule for late night drinking avoid West and South.
Shacklewell is great but will be very packed and raucous. If you're looking to chill and chat until the early hours you might be disappointed.
Had my first snog with my other half in there late on a Tuesday as it was the only place we could find for one last drink before I had to get the last train home (that I obvs missed). Been together every since so it holds special memories!!
Ruby's in Dalston was such a place but now got closed (edit: Not closed but turned into a restaurant / cantina which effectively changed the vibes), Simmons in Soho is open until like 4 a.m. but anyone who's over the age of 24 automatically turns into ash when entering the premises.
London is an absolute desert when it comes to post 1 a.m. except a few clubs or bars with music.
Edit / Addendum: Another Redditor down mentioned Lexington in Angel, two stories so the club area is separated if you want to chill (open until 4 a.m.)
I'll add The Old Queens Head in Angel, also two storeys and open until 3 a.m.
Bar Italia is not drinks per-se but still a nice place to hang out in Soho.
Paris nightlife is crazy compared to London. I don’t think London compares in terms of how late normal places like cafe bars are open until.
There will be more chilled places open until 2am but in Paris you can sit chatting in a chilled cafe bar until 5am.
We have a different drinking culture. Always have. People here drink early, drink in pubs and enjoy a pub culture. That’s the way it is.
Plus anywhere that is along the lines you describe would be a magnet for trouble in central. There are places to go outside of zone one if you look.
Me and a friend went Paris for the weekend and found this little bar. The guy was so psyched to have a couple English people in, made us point to where we came from on a map and gave us free beer and a mango because the kitchen was closed but he wanted to feed us. It was delightful!
This is one of the most disappointing things about London nightlife. I was always under the impression it was a "city that never sleeps" type of place, but unless you're wanting to move into a club post-midnight, you're pretty stuffed.
I'd love to find a place that has a pub atmosphere (no ridiculously loud music), serves alcohol, and remains open until the early hours.
This is one of the many functions and perks of a members club - Many of them have bars open well into the morning.

Consider it perhaps - Not all of them are full of stuffy rich men!
The Tiger in Camberwell is open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays. The main floor gets a bit dancy and there’s space outside or in a side room to chat and still get a vibey pub atmosphere
It’s a great pub all other days of the week too!
RIP Canavan's , the most hated best late night bar / club in London
Hey grabbed the best spots from this thread here: https://quester.io/q/51863864. Thought it would be useful to return to. Since I gave up drinking during the pandemic, this has been an obsession of mine (Ronnie Scott's is probs my fave)
Any late night gallery recommendations, or live music venues?
London is also well known to have a lot of hookers
Timeout magazine used to be good, I can't say I've had a look recently however.
There's plenty of late comedy, music, theatre, cinema screenings etc if you look through listings.
Prince Charles cinema often does special events where they play multiple films back to back overnight
Did a lord of the rings marathon at Prince Charles cinema during summer at it was one of the best movie going experiences ever. Awesome crowd with some people dressed up as elves and hobbits.
I always thought these would be sparsely populated. They are not.
In fact at my first one, an Arnie all nighter, not many people left before I did at around 4am.
Ents 24 has all the listings.
Dogging
Was instantly my 1st thought for a reply! :D
He said doesn’t Involve drinking; some oriole drink their fill dogging
Meat me there
There's some late night activities that happens down in Hampstead heath
After few unsuccessful attempts to find something what me and my wife would enjoy, decided to ask for help. Looking for dance floor, DJ playing popular dance music (don't judge, please), ideally South West side.
Thanks!
Try the local British legion
I don’t think they let old people in da club
Bacchus or Pryzm in Kingston are SW London. Check what the theme is for each night is to find the one that suits. Popular dance music is hard to pin down though. Most DJs aim to be popular and to make you dance!
The places I mentioned have nights ranging from 80s to hardcore.
!thanks
Me and two friends are going to Paris soon and would like to know if anyone has good recommendations for nightclubs that are popular with people around our age, maybe even for British tourists too.
Any info on the nightlife would be appreciated :)
You can start with some beers or other at "The Grand Boulevard" (it's a street) there is some pubs and then finish or start the night at "The Rex Club"
If you are all lads, you won't get into Rex.
Don't know lot about nightclubs, but there are couple of Irish pubs in Châtelet
Check shotgun or RA out. You’ll find something for your taste. Not sure if you’ll come across other Brits tho.
Follow the noise?
You can always head down into madness of Rue de la roquette and it's insane little brother, Rue de lappe.
Also good, less mental in that area is Oberkampf loads of great bars there for thrusting, vibrant young party goers.
