In my opinion, drivers license is perfect lyrically.

After watching Olivia Rodrigo: driving home 2 u, listening to Olivia talk about drivers license and the line: “Yeah, today, I drove through the suburbs And pictured I was driving home to you” in the 2nd verse, I absolutely adored the song. It’s just so good. I completely understand why it became such a massive hit.

What do yous think? What song by Olivia Rodrigo do you think is perfect with its lyrical aspect? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

This is hands down the best song, it’s one of her rawest and deepest. She lets us in on a whole different level, outside of her heartbreak music. She shows us the fame isn’t all it’s cracked up to be

Love how this song starts off slow (deceiving you to think it's another 'traitor' or drivers license') then transitions into grunge so unexpectedly. Good hook too (talk about putting narcotics in a song in a good way without literally spelling it out)

1- I think the lyrics are so completely suited to the film it was made for. It’s so meaningful in the context of the film, the lyrics fit it so incredibly well.

2- even without the context of the film, it tells such an incredible story!

3- the lyrics are all very cohesive in a really really wonderful way

4- the intertwining of the different lyrics in the bridge is so impactful!!

5- “sometimes the fire you founded don’t burn the way you expect” is a really gorgeous lyric and it sums up the songs themes in just one tiny moment

5- the whole song is somehow both at once completely straightforward and totally layered

These are all just my silly little opinions, though!

Edit: also it’s so beautifully composed and layered and the bridge is INSANELY good- the way it comes in is just insane. It makes me genuinely ascend to some other dimension. It’s so impactful. And on a more personal note, the song is just very important to me for a LOT of different reasons!

I always thought that lyric was referring Olivia being half Filipino and a lot of girls she is compared to (Sabrina, Gracie, Billie, Taylor) being white. But I do agree it’s a weird metaphor.
