Discussion Questions:
Favorite tracks are Tornado Warnings, Fast Times and Vicious.
I like it more and more with each listen. For me it’s a very solid tracklist.
Very much worth the wait. I thought the rollout was well timed.
As much as I love Singular Act II, I have to say Emails I Can’t Send is now my favorite album of hers. Incredible voice and great songs overall.
My favorite's "bad for business", it delivers the feeling of knowing you're falling bad for somone but it feels so good so you just let it happen; it feels so fuzzy, dreamy, joyous and a little bit reckless.
Fast Times has been on repeat for me, such a banger!
she simply did not lie when she said this shit catchier than chicken pox is
Overall, I remember people complaining it was too Julia Michael-y, which is true. I feel like Sabrina could have took more creative control to allow Julia as a songwriter but still have a Sabrina style to it. But I understand this is her first album from a non-Disney label so she might have been under pressure to do that as her "debut from them". Other than that her vocals are fantastic on here.
Mine are Thumbs, wild side, sue me, Paris, run and hide
Smoke and Fire, Eyes Wide Open,Sue Me, Exhale,On Purpose,Hands,First Love,Thumbs, prfct, We’ll Be The Stars,Your Love’s Like, Honeymoon Fades, Alien ,Silver Nights,Almost Love(and its R3hab Remix),Looking At Me,Hold Tight,Tricky,Paris,White flag,I can’t stop me Pushing 20, Right now, seamless,Don’t Want It Back,Shadows,Run and Hide,Mona Lisa,No Words,On My Way are mostly my favs in descending order tho to be honest all of her songs are my favorites ...... so yeah this question you have posted is rather Tricky
I meant to put “top 5 favorite songs” oops
But...... all her songs belong in the top 5
1- Honeymoon fades, 2- Alien, 3- Mona Lisa, 4- Looking at me, 5- Pushing 20
Good choices!
On purpose, and Mirage. I still go back to the evolution album from time to time
1-On Purpose 2-Why 3-Almost Love 4-Seamless 5-Paris
On my way
Exhale
Love that
It's such a good song to just listen to and think.
frrr
For me it’s either Smoke and Fire or Eyes Wide Open.
i remember everyone thinking it was about bradley hashahah still don’t know if it was or wasn’t but love the conspiracy lol
Yeah me too.
smoke and fire is the BOMBB
Yes it is.
Sabrina is
Eyes wide open....
a GREAT one
I'd say skin or exhale. Because I feel like they are so relatable. We all get overwhelmed and have critics and it can be a lot to deal with at times and those songs recognize that and I think that's cool that she wrote songs that recognize that.
Omg this is my favorite thing she's put out in a minute!
It's a solid pop song, fitting the current trend but not generic. I hope she continues in this direction, I feel like it has a unique identity!
I love how breezy this song is! I'm not a big fan of the first verse it's a slow intro to the chorus. But wow I LOVE the chorus! Her vocals are so slick. The bridge could have been a bit bigger vocally speaking bc the song is so short to be doing that instrumental thing
And yup Julia Michaels' writing voice/tone is SO strong, I could hear her sing it bc it reminds me of Lie Like This.
Has she been working with Julia on a lot of stuff recently? I saw someone say she did for her last song but I'm not so deeply invested to know if it's confirmed
Yes, Julia co-wrote Skinny Dipping. You can just tell if it's Julia on writing with "quirky 🤪" words. Like in this song it has lyrics like, "Mixed emotions are congregating / My feelings used to be serrated / But you speak in such a perfect cadence".
i love the vibe of the song but the production sounds off to me. the song sounds like it should be big and epic but the instrumental is so quiet and the song feels so… small? subdued? chill? it sounds like perhaps the producer is more used to producing acoustic leaning music and isn’t experienced with making upbeat pop music or something?
He has produced lots of Maroon 5. Also did most of 1D albums apparently (none of the songs I remember from them, I wasn't their demography). That miss match of vibes seems to be really common for him. I don't really understand why he gets hired as producer. He is clearly technically competent producer, but seems to lack the artistic production skill to make the songs sound cohesive. He also writes a lot of the songs he has produced and the writing seems fine, but someone else needs to produce them.
Absolutely completely obsessed with this direction for her.
After seeing all the teasers I was worried she would be going for a cringey faux baddie vibe but this is groovy, sweet and genuinely great!
I've never really connected with any Sabrina songs before but holy shit I absolutely love this. Love the throwback strings sample, it's so smooth and fun. I'd love for her to finally get a hit!
In my bed, pushing 20, and Looking at Me
I'm fakin', Looking at Me and Take off all your cool
Mine is Looking at Me, Take Off All Your Cool, and In My Bed
Take off all your cool, looking at me, and tell em.
'Looking At Me' seems to be universally loved. And I agree, it's a really surprising song from the album.

> few A-list albums released in recent years are as tightly stitched and locked-in as this one
with all due respect to sabrina and this reviewer, this makes me think they’ve been asleep for the past few years bc what
Like saying this year might be a stretch but would make sense, but when including 2024, AKA one of the best years for pop in a long time, in that statement is crazy.
yeah it's good but i would def not say this album is tightly stitched nor locked in
Spring/Summer 2024 releases would like a word
Surprised they are this positive on this.
The album feels like a victory lap for Sabrina breaking into A-list status and something for Jack to twiddle his thumbs with while Taylor works with someone else.
It's totally fine, but I do wish there was a bit more sincerity throughout. I enjoy her sexy and cute and crude side, and love that she refreshingly injects comedy and confidence into that sex appeal, but this album leans so much into crude comedy that it almost comes across as Weird Al-esque. That's not disrespect to Weird Al, but it makes this album hard to take seriously and listen as a whole.
The songs themselves are pretty good, I just wish she balanced the mood a little better like on Short n Sweet or Emails.
Like I said in the megathread, I don't really think this album will be remembered as much or affect the arc of her career. This feels like a nice little stop-gap between emerging as a superstar and whatever comes next. I do hope that she really takes her time with the next one. I like this album well enough, but I'd be disappointed if she rattled off yet another one a year from now.
I will be stunned if she puts out yet another album next year.
>much into crude comedy that it almost comes across as Weird Al-esque. That's not disrespect to Weird Al, but it makes this album hard to take seriously and listen as a whole.
I take offense to this but mostly because Weird Al very rarely goes into crude/crass humor
The Guardian always has someone they’ll blow smoke up their arse for, this time it’s Sabrina
I think that The Lonely Island is a more apt comparison than Weird Al, and I’m saying that as a fan of both theirs and Sabrina’s. The chorus of Tears makes me want a collab between the two of them more than I already did lol.
Well I'll be the one positive comment and say I agree, very strong album imo! And it sounds like something that, at least for me, wont get old after only a few listens.
Ngl I agree with this! I am a very happy ethical slut who enjoys blue humor and tongue-in-cheek stuff. Also, it reminds me of a modern 70s pop swingers album and I love that!
None of the songs are quite stunners like Espresso, but it's more consistent for me than SNS.
Also rn I'm a bit in my fuck shitty dudes era, so this is very fun for that!
Stunning craft is a major overstatement and the album is a step down sonically from short n sweet
First off, sorry to everyone who thought we were Sabrina Carpenter's AMA. We were not. Yall probably aren't here anymore though.
Welcome to the second day of the Curated Soundtracks Rate reveal! This is the electric bugaloo one. I don't have anything else funny to say today (do I ever, though?). Let's do this.
Same as yesterday, we'll be revealing 15 songs (today, songs 30-16). This is Day Two, so these were the songs you thought were kinda not bad but kind not good. Tomorrow we will be doing the same thing one last time but we will crown your winner and it will begin at 2PM EST / 7PM GMT.
As was the case yesterday we are still holding a contest with the exceptional prize of me writing an assay / shitpost on the topic of your choice free of charge. Or I'll make you some graphics for your playlists. We're not mods and we are poor. Please do our contest. More information will be pinned below.

gowestyoungkanye (9): Fergie went off. The irony of this track can’t be ignored either. It’s so flippant (my favourite word as longtime readers of my comments will know!). I also think it pulls off the electro swing Bang Bang doesn’t. Love the chorus. Okay, that’s all I (we) got.
strawberryswing1 (9.5): I have such a soft spot for the 2011-2012 era like drops like this one. I miss when music was light hearted and fun to dance to in the car. No there’s nothing super meaningful about this...it’s literally a song for parties, about parties. Context matters and I stand by my very high score thank you. Also Fergie please bless us with more music soon.
kappyko (11): Now this is how you do electro-swing fuck off punk this is the greatest song ever written
ThereIsNoSantaClaus (0): Trying to blend Gatsby-period music with modern sounds and production isn't a bad idea in concept, but holy shit is this the worst possible execution of it. None of this fits together, the dubstep production is incredibly dated, and both Fergie and Q-Tip sound really out of place on this terrible mess of a track.
##Gatsby? What Gatsby?
radiofan15 (11): I know this is a VERY brave choice for my 11 but I don't care... this song was my immediate highlight from the soudntrack as soon as it came out and still is... I mean, it was my clock alarm for like 6 months, can you imagine that? Anyway, Fergie sounds lovely and in her range here (what happened at her National Anthemp performance? we will never know) and the rap by Q-Tip (his best in the whole rate; sorry but I don't make the rules) is quite trashy but the flow is just so catchy and goes along pretty well with GoonRock's electro house/swing/hiphop production that I can't believe Baz Luhrmann didn't created a full dance sequence to go along the song and instead let it rot in the backgroung mashuped with Bang Bang
CarlieScion (10): what a bop
enecks (10): This taps into that part of my brain that likes Party Rock Anthem and electro swing. That part of my brain is a dumbass, but it's still a part of my brain. I'll give it a 10.
gannade (10): major bop
hikkaru (10): The sax and the piano weaved in with the EDM is heavenly and the fact that this song serves LMFAO realness does not bother me one bit. Fergie also serves jazzy vocals that are leaving her performance of the USA anthem shaking in its boots.
followingfreeways (9): wtf this is an absolute bop...ive never seen the great gatsby fully but i can imagine myself just getting lit w all the rich ppl
MirandaCrocsgrove (9): Double Dutchess deserved better
poppinmmolly (9): a bop tbh
ThatParanoidPenguin (9): This song is legitimately a megabop - it’s such a ridiculous concept that feels like Party Rock Anthem: 1920s Edition, but it’s definitely one of my favorite original songs off this soundtrack. The chorus is so good and Q-Tip is such a wild choice for a feature on this but it works so well. I’m sure this will go out early, but if you don’t recognize how hard that drop hits, I have nothing to say to you.
THE_PC_DEMANDS_BLOOD (9): bop
1998tweety (8.5): Fergie actually suits the style of music very well.
Leixander (8.5): goofy fergie at her finest
notdallin (8.2): it’s nice to know that the dubstep era at least went out in 2013 with a thunderous, messy, and magnificent bang
jamesfog (8): A Platinum certified hit
tapdancingpig (8): Ok, this jazz-EDM mashup is very 2013, but it’s a lot of fun.
TragicKingdom1 (8): kind of a guilty pleasure bop, Q-Tip is definitely the highlight tho
ignitethephoenix (7.5): This songs is like 5 different songs in one, but I don’t completely hate it?
Roxieloxie (7.3): it's a dancy bop but it didn't need to be this long
twat_brained (7.1): Wow maybe Fergie's credibility hasn't completely gone out the window. This beat's a bit much for me; it sounds like something a rent-a-DJ would put on at like 1:10 AM in a seedy nightclub
Banananaise (7): dear god what did we do wrong in the late 2000s-early 2010s to deserve the dubstep trend. i mean i like Katy B and NERO as much as the next person but why did this song need a dubstep breakdown??? why they do this???
Shippy (7): okay this was kinda boppie
static_int_husp (7): They do realize how the movie ends, right?
didney-worl (6.9): I forgot how messy this album was. Still love it.
##Gatsby’s dead, Fergie
rotating3Dtext (6.5): omg is so bad… but i’m dancing
skargardin (6.5): Somehow it had completely escaped me that this song was from the Gatsby soundtrack. Still, I’ve never really enjoyed it that much. On top of that it’s just so utterly dated by this point.
robbiec_ (6): trash I... love
carly-rae_sremmurd (5): Expected to hate this, kinda didn't
ZankeeZero (4.5): you know, it's ironic that this is called "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody" because this somehow manages to sound like a literal seizure. which is not that hard to achieve, but this is a slap to the face of everyone who ever died to a seizure and i take offence in their name. i appreciate q-tip's azealia banks flow on this one cuz it kinda saved this from being a 2.
luigi_is_better (4): this is like every song from 2008 and fergie sounds like a random person
SendMeYourSATScores (4): i personally blame this song for the death of electropop
thenshecamelikeaaah (4): 2013 was a mistake.
PuggleMaster (2): Oh Fergie what are you doing? I hate this soundtrack......
vodkainsipido (1): i was going to put the image of fergie pissing herself here but that would be nothing next to the career-killer double dutchess was
selegend (0): I fucking hate LMFAO
what is UP with everyone saying they love this trashy bop and yet wHERE ARE YOU SCORES TO BACK UP THE OPINIONS FRIEND
Wtf!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought this was top 5 for sure /u/selegend ur dead 2 me
I'M HERE FINALLY AND I'M MAD THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST SONG I SEE THAT WENT OUT

gowestyoungkanye (9): Just a lovely, haunting little cover.
strawberryswing1 (9): All the #haters can rejoice, a Lorde song has been eliminated on day 2. I’ve read less than nice things about Lorde’s voice on this sub, but her voice is just lovely to me and she can encapsulate this tone that I would describe as “sickeningly sweet” in a lot of her songs that I love. She does that here to an almost haunting extent.
##Ladders
Raykel (10): It's a special time when one your favorite artists covers another one of your favorite artists #streambrighteyes
theburningundead (10): I love this cover so much, severely underrated and if it weren't for Yellow Flicker Beat this would absolutely have my 11
turtle-thief (10): gorgeous cover.
radiofan15 (9.2): Having never heard the original, I can judge this one on its own merits. I like the religious imaginery (but also i'm glad Lorde changed the lyrics in a line about Jesus and Buddha) and the athmosphere, and how the whole thing applies to Panem. Probably my biggest complaint would be that this song feels more appropiate for any of the other Hunger Games movies, like the ones in which Katniss loses a very dear friend (Rue, Prim, Cinna) as the original song's subject matter.
Roxieloxie (8.6): really really beautiful
ThereIsNoSantaClaus (8.5): The organ backing of this song is really warm and nice. I generally like Lorde on more minimal production, and this is pretty much as minimal as you can go. It's good!
1998tweety (8): This is soothing and Lorde suites it well.
enecks (8): Lorde's one weakness in her Pure Heroine era was some bad covers. But this isn't one of those.
kappyko (8): i like tha organ. slap some drums on this and call it a melodrama bonus track baby! art + pop q+u+e+e+n!
tapdancingpig (8): Really haunting cover.
notdallin (7.9): that icy production really looks good on Bright Eyes
twat_brained (7): Upon second listen I realize there's more to it than I initially imagined. Still doesn't really go anywhere, though, and it makes me disappointed in Lorde; she really ought to stick to writing her own songs.
robbiec_ (6.8): this is simple and cute
##Shutes
thenshecamelikeaaah (6.5): ok i love lorde but that song barely happened
CarlieScion (6): eh
MirandaCrocsgrove (6): this is the epitome of the indie-avocado voice
ThatParanoidPenguin (6): This might be the most forgotten Lorde song right next to No Better, except this deserves to be forgotten
gannade (1): she has the diction of a baby and shes basically just slowly moaning in a mic
SendMeYourSATScores (1): yuck this has feels

gowestyoungkanye (7.8): When I was prepping this rate and saw Charli pop up on the tracklist, I did a double take. She’s certainly a far cry from the Charli we know and love today, but I actually like this a lot more than some of her current work (I’m waiting for the angry mob). It’s a nice little track.
strawberryswing1 (7.5): This is one of those songs that is hard to put a number on for me. Part of me kinda hates it part of me kinda loves it. Charli has become one of my favorite pop girls but her stellar qualities don’t shine through this track at all. Still, it’s sorta nice to see a new side to her...idk.
##[FRESH ALBUM] XCX World
tapdancingpig (11): I expecting a massive, out of place taunting song from Charli. I was disappointed at first, but HOLY SHIT THIS IS GOOD!
didney-worl (10): Charli is an angel confirmed
PuggleMaster (10): omg imagine this song with her 2018 autotune
Roxieloxie (10): Charlie's voice on this song is so soft
skargardin (10): What the actual fuck how haven’t I heard this before? This is beautiful!
turtle-thief (10): It's such an interesting track. The production is so flowy and simple but starts glitching randomly, the airy falsettos, and that bridge is everything. It's just italian chef kiss
ZankeeZero (10): Charli's voice during the True Romance era was super healthy and i'm sad that it's gone, but this is one of her best songs from that era. Kinda wish she could revisit this sound, just for like, one song.
kappyko (9.5): putting charli xcx on a piano ballad is probably the worst decision anybody could have. it worked though UPDATE: i just listened to more of the song this slaps. i was gonna scream about a man being on this but its the guy from duran duran oops
1998tweety (9.2): I think this is the first piano ballad I've heard from Charli and honestly I like it.
CarlieScion (9): this is not what i expected from charli but i love it!!!!
carly-rae_sremmurd (9): Charli plz put Simon le Bon on Pop 3
robbiec_ (9): omgggg????
notdallin (8.9): never knew I needed a Charli-fronted Vampire Weekend until now
rotating3Dtext (8.5): I never knew charli was on this. A fairly different song for her.
radiofan15 (8.2): This is such a nice surprise coming from Charleak... first, the fact that this song wasn't composed especifically for the movie and yet it fits so well with the themes of the franchise (if I have to say compare it to the soundtracks of other franchises, I gotta appreciate that the Hunger Games's soundtracks for their tendency of including mostly fitting songs, it might have something to do with how the Hunger Games' universe is such a great fit for good and interesting writing), second is the inclusion of Duran Duran's lead singer which is always appreciated. Probably my biggest perk with the song is how it ends so soon but i'm not really complaining about it.
twat_brained (7.6): Is this Charli XCX or Kate Bush? Was Charli asked to sing like Kate here? Either way this is a bit too much of a clash for her style of music.
Banananaise (7): honestly charli xcx + rostam + ariel rechtshaid + simon le bon should have made something better
luigi_is_better (6.5): so in Brazil we have a very popular female singer called Xuxa that sings songs for children and this honestly sounds like a Xuxa song (minus the lyrics of course)
##[LEAK]
ThereIsNoSantaClaus (6.5): It's fine, but I was expecting more from the combo of Charli, Rostam, and Ariel Rechtshaid. It's actually Charli who let me down most here, as her vocals are kind of pitchy and weaker than usual.
Leixander (6): cute but ??? sorry choli but this is a no from me
pickupthephonebaby (6): charli wasn't good yet
raicicle (6): is this a bad imogen heap song? maybe
thenshecamelikeaaah (5.5): I'm trying to not fall asleep and this is not helping. igotigotitigotit
enecks (5): This really isn't Charli's best zone of operating in. It's too sugary and flavourless.
ThatParanoidPenguin (5): I love Charli XCX but this really just didn’t work at all, I don’t know why they just didn’t give her a normal ass dance song, smh.
MirandaCrocsgrove (4): how was Charli not bored making this song
SendMeYourSATScores (4): i don’t like this stream girls night out [Editor’s note: good advice regardless !]
Shippy (3): omg i could not recognize who sang this and looked at the credits and then i realized why it sounded so strained
Thanks for coming!!!!!

Ooh that's hard, so many good options
Right now I'd say making the bed or logical, but I love everything she puts out
Your taste is amazing tho. Chappell and Conan
Chappell is probably Kaleidoscope (the live version is mindblowing- that girl is TALENTED)
Conan is harder for me (I love them all) but I'll have to pick little league, footnote, or alley rose
(And thanks for the compliment <3)
Ughh these are incredible picks!!!!❤️💐
Taylor
It's so hard to pick, but I'll say You are in love, mirrorball, or Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus
Omg, are you my long lost twin? 😰😰
Maybe 🥰
I just listened to Sabrina Carpenter’s new album, Man’s Best Friend, and honestly, I was floored by how single-minded it is. Every track circles back to men; having sex with them, fighting with them, breaking up with them, chasing them, being turned on by them. There’s no detour into ANYTHING OTHER THAN men.
And this isn’t shaming by any means. plenty of artists like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé & Olivia Rodrigo write about men. And I find it very enjoyable. But they mix it up with other themes. Sabrina seems locked into one lane, to the point where 12 songs blur into one long track. It’s not about bashing her, but I can’t remember another mainstream artist allowed to get away with that level of repetition. And I would love to get other people’s opinions on her approach to music and the changes it might perpetrate in the industry going forward, seeing as she’s one of the most successful and commercially consumed artists nowadays.
here’s a short “synopsis” of every song on the album:
Manchild: hating immature men but continuously ending up in relationships with them.
>!Tears: things her partner does that make her horny. “Tears go down my thighs…”!<
>!my man on willpower: about her man treating her differently & less passionately as the relationship progresses.!<
>!sugar talking: about her man being all words and no action. The theme is don’t send me flowers, just come to my apartment.!<
>!we almost broke up again last night: her boyfriend and her almost broke up again last night.!<
>!nobody’s son: how she got her heart broken so many times that there’s no man left for her to believe in.!<
>!never getting laid: they broke up, and now she hopes he never gets laid again.!<
>!when did you get hot?: as the title states she meets a man and wonders when did he get so hot.!<
>!go-go juice: about how when she’s brokenhearted she gets drunk and texts a bunch of men. Like literally one of the lines is “ain’t nobody safe when I’m a little bit drunk, could be John or Larry […] or the one that rhymes with Villian”.!<
>!don’t worry I’ll make you worry: basically about fucking with her boyfriend’s head.!<
>!house tour: it’s a song about her giving a guy a house tour but it’s all a big metaphor for sex.!<
>!Goodbye: they break up. he’s gonna regret it, but she’s never going back.!<
And you could very much say the same thing about her previous album, Short n’ Sweet. The only song that isn’t directly about a man is Taste, and even then it’s because the song is directly referring to the woman who is currently doing Sabrina‘s ex. So still about a man.
And yes, I’m aware of the fact the album‘s name is man’s best friend, so you might think it’s just a conceptual album and that’s why it’s about men. Which is why I brought up her previous album as well. The very reason I’m making this post is because I’m familiar with Sabrina‘s first five albums, And the diverse topics she would delve into. so to see that with her last two/three albums, she’s abandoned all originality and decided to focus primarily on one topic, is disappointing.
It just drives me crazy that she could get away with such a lack of creativity. I feel like any other artist is being held to a higher standard. And artists who displays such a lack of versatility are widely disregarded, like ed Sheeran. I love Sabrina’s music, but an artist of her caliber shouldn’t be recycling the same story 12 times.
What did you think the album by Sabrina Carpenter was going to be about, the sociopolitical consequences of late stage capitalism? (I say this as a fan of hers)
You joke but CMAT’s album was released also today to better reviews and is a very solid pop-country album that does this while also talking about relationships
literally had to google who the hell that was. not only are these lyrics just as corny if not cornier, i don't think you can compare someone with only 3 albums under her belt to someone with 7. sabrina's been there done that.
I wanna like CMAT and all but she's solidly less pop. Her snarky humour and criticism is interesting but not relistenable at the same level.
You're far more likely to hear Carpenter than CMAT in Diceys
I am a fan of a lot of music and majored in political philosophy but I really don’t want any pop song about capitalism’s downfall - that’s not in her bag. I think there is more substance to this album then ppl give it credit for - both sonically and an interesting view point of power dynamics, feminism and sexual expression / gender roles. But I also get that it’s a jack antonoff album by the espresso girl and a lot of ppl will write it off from the jump. It’s much more Fleetwood Mac than it is Britney Speare tbh.
you’re purposely misinterpreting what was said, “being allowed to get away with..” in regards to mediocrity, its a mediocre, depthless album that does not show any artistic growth since she put out short n sweet, it’s basically the same album with a country twist
it wasnt all about the same relationship lmao nauseous and class clown were completely different concepts while the rest I'd agree were about the relationship
No literally 😭😭 it’s a breakup album, of course it’s all about guys, it’s really about just one guy for 12 songs
A few days ago, I started to notice that every time I search for a song, listen to an album, or use artist radio on Spotify, 'Please Please Please' comes up next! At first, I didn't pay much attention to it since the song is hot and certainly everywhere right now. But then I went to X and saw more users saying the same thing! Now popfiltr wrote about similar experience??? It's actually quite crazy that Spotify thinks it's okay!!!
How can you trust the number of streams, charts, or even RIAA certifications if the stats are so artificial!? How can independent artists get exposure when the system itself is against them?
it’s because these new artists don’t pay Spotify to be recommended. plain and simple. Do you think Sabrina’s music is organically pushed down everyone’s throat?
the payolas are getting unbearable lately. billie, chappell and sabrina are played every single damn time my queue lapses and i don’t even listen to their music ever, minus billie. i loved hit me hard and soft but holy shit am i tired of it after only a few weeks
Apple Music is not as intrusive but the algorithm is still compromised (labels paying for top slots).
In my Favorites Mix, Nonsense by Sabrina is #1 even though I haven’t listened to it in a year and all the artists I listen to daily like Normani & Luke Hemmings are at the bottom of my playlist.
Turning off autoplay is a godsend. I stg it’s on at work and I always hear the same 10 TikTok songs over and over and there’s never a shortage of Sabrina. I check my daylist often and I feel like half of the time it’s just full of those TikTok songs under the guise of ‘productive sunny coffee brewing morning’ and it manages to conveniently list 10 recent hits I have no interest or history in
exactly like whenever these posts come up i’m so confused because i play from my playlists and there is never a song i wouldn’t want to hear on there.
i don’t trust anybody but myself to vet new music so the last thing i want is spotify recommending random stuff
I’m the type of crazy person that just has one playlist with all the songs I like on it and I only listen to that. It’s like my own personal radio. There’s no way I’m listening to a song I haven’t already guaranteed that I liked beforehand.
dude yes, this is my experience too. i can't stand that song now
Lol my Alexa was doing this for her entire new album and I had to hit dislike. Like I'm too cheap to pay for Amazon music unlimited or whatever so I get to learn a lot about the algorithm.
this is my experience because i regularly have sabrina and eics on rotation so a ppp push didn't bother me as much. but i've never really gone out of my way to listen to billie so i'm honestly so lost while she'll come up after i've been listening to kpop or showtunes. lol.
literally commented this because I was listening to Hope on the Street on a road trip the other day and was SO CONFUSED when she started playing afterwards, like…girlie what are you doing here? and she’s done it to me ever since
I was listening to Girl so confusing remix, autoplay put birds of a feather right after and the second song was please please please lol.
I'm probably not the best judge, but it's what led me to turn off autoplay in the first place. I turn it on and off from time to time because it can lead to some nice discoveries every once in awhile, but it has also led to me either turning off autoplay or blocking artists if I really don't like the song that is being pushed. It can sometimes get wonky and stuck in a loop, but I think our listening habits definitely play a big part in it.
It's weird because I've only been served PPP twice since the song's been out (and I've had autoplay active since it was released) but maybe it's because I skipped it both times. It's a good song, but it's just not for me. Some recent examples that I found to be very aggressive were Million Dollar Baby, Espresso, Lunch & Chihiro. The first song I also didn't like and always skipped but it kept serving me the song at the end of every playlist/album I played until I had to block Tommy Richman.
Right now the songs I'm being served the most are: Talk Talk, Snap My Fingers, 360 remix & MPH, but I like all of these and haven't gotten sick of listening to them so I don't mind it. I do think the algo recommends stuff based on what you usually listen to, like it won't stay in the same genre or anything, but will play songs adjacent to your music preference and will usually default to popular ones, but that's just my experience. Obvs labels do negotiate to have certain songs be pushed on their playlists and our be recommended on autoplay but I'm not sure how it all works on the backend.
