Best Order to Watch Naruto

TL;DR

  1. Naruto (Episodes 1-220)
  2. Naruto Shippuden (Episodes 1-479)
  3. The Last: Naruto the Movie (Canon)
  4. Finish Naruto Shippuden (Episodes 480-500)
  5. Boruto: Naruto the Movie
  6. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations

Watching the Series

The recommended order to watch the Naruto series is to start with "Naruto," followed by "Naruto Shippuden," and then move on to "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" [1:1][1:3]. This sequence follows the chronological development of the storyline. Some viewers prefer watching in release order, but most agree that starting with Naruto and proceeding to Shippuden provides the best narrative flow [2:2].

Incorporating Movies

While most Naruto movies are not considered canon, "The Last: Naruto the Movie" is an exception and should be watched between episodes 479 and 494 of Naruto Shippuden [1:3][5:1]. Other movies can be watched at any time as they do not impact the main storyline significantly [1:2]. If you want to watch all the movies, consider using a timeline guide to fit them into the series appropriately [3:2].

Skipping Fillers

Naruto and Naruto Shippuden have a significant number of filler episodes, which some viewers choose to skip. Websites like http://animefillerlist.com can help identify these episodes [4:2]. Watching without fillers can streamline the experience and keep the focus on the main plot [2:3].

Streaming Options

For those looking to stream, Netflix offers Naruto, while Hulu has all of Naruto Shippuden in sub and partial dub [5:3][5:4]. Crunchyroll is another option for watching the series in sub [5:3].

Following this order will ensure you experience the full story arc of Naruto, Shippuden, and Boruto, while also enjoying the cinematic aspects provided by the movies.

right order to watch naruto?

ORIGINAL POST

I have just found time to start watching Naruto after heavy recommendations from everyone I know even remotely watching Anime. But there are just so many titles that I am confused. I want to know the right order to watch the series including all the movies, Shippuden and Boruto (which I understand is the latest installment of Naruto universe) TL:DR; want to know the correct order to watch everything in the Naruto universe to properly enjoy the show in all its glory.

EDIT: Found a decent chronological order in the wiki page of subreddit. General order seems to be Naruto->Shippuden->The Last (movie)->Boruto Also only the last movie is canon and others are not.

I'm not quite sure how this is complicated. But Naruto -> Shippuden -> Boruto. Movies whenever, they're not canon like 99% of shounen jump movies

Hi saiyan_prince1998, it seems like you might be looking for a show's watch order!

On our watch order wiki you can find suggested orders for a ton of shows (hopefully including the one you're looking for), as well as information that will help you decide on what to watch for the more complicated series <cough> Gundam <cough>.

Actually if you look for something called Naruto Kai (not conventionally found) its a fanmade combination of all of Naruto and Shippuden that excludes filler.

Naruto then Naruto Shippuden. Then the Naruto the last movie (its the only canon movie). Then Boruto.

I’ve been wondering this too.. I recently rewatched all of Naruto but in English for the first time on Netflix. They break it down into “9 season” but really the final Naruto and Sasuke battle happens at the end of season 5 or 6, and the rest is filler. I watched the rest but realized I may have miss out on weaving in the movies in their respective timeline order. There’s gotta be a running timeline list somewhere out there

Road To Ninja is not meant to be watch for another 100 episodes or so.

Try to look up (on Wikipedia) when the movies were released, and then check when the episodes were released. That's the best way to avoid being spoiled by a movie

There are also a lot of filler episodes you can skip if you find them boring. I might try watching them first but some of them don't make any sense and you'll probably know when you stumble across a filler arc. You can always check at animefillerlist.com

It gets worse in Shippuden I find because they will just go back like 5 years for no reason to pad for run time

Complete Naruto (Part 1) on Netflix then

if you can use vpn, switch to Canada and watch Naruto Shippuden (it has only first 222 eps, ie s10)

After that use any pirated site

If you wish to see SUB you can just use crunchyroll, above is for Dub

I mean just go from episode 1 then 2 and so on. Movies and many episodes are filler (not part of actual story) thus after watching the full series if you really interested you can go back to those movies and filler episodes if you want.

Just google Naruto Filler guide and you should be good. Or go with release order if you want to watch everything.

As someone who does love the show it's totally fine to skip filler if you're not feeling it. Depending on what you like though there are some actually good filler episodes so at least give some a try. Just don't feel like you have to watch a specific filler arc.

Also if you do get to Boruto, there is a really neat story there but you have to watch the manga canon episodes rather exclusively. It's where all of the character and story development happens. Also the vibes are quite different but give it some time to start cooking and you can get some rewarding stories.

In my opinion you should start but watching Naruto Shonen Jump ( All episodes on Netflix) and then work your way to Naruto Shippuden. I’ve watched all the movies but only a couple to me are really worth watching and I don’t believe there’s any correlation to the actual cannon part of the story. It’s a long watch but it’s my favorite anime and I wish I could watch it all over again for the first time. P.S. there’s a lot of filler in Shippuden so if you don’t care to watch all 500 episodes you can look up which episodes are fillers, some of em are pretty cool though and funny.

Im just starting Naruto for the first time, since I've been putting it off for a while. I know the original 220 episode series is first and Shippuden goes after that. Mostly wondering where all the movies fit in or if they are even necessary to watch. I tried to look it up and it says they are scattered all throughout the series.

Back in the day, anime movies/tv specials were strictly filler, as the main anime was continuous and didn't have any breaks. The only somewhat canon movie is The Last, which you can watch after the main anime. Others are bonus/filler material. And then of course the Boruto movie later, but that was remade into Boruto anime so yeah.

Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, and the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations if you care about that.

There is a lot of filler in Naruto and Shippuden, so look up "Naruto filler list" or "Naruto Shippuden filler list" and you'll see which episodes are canon and filler. I personally suggest to skip all of the filler, because I think it's boring, and it obviously adds nothing to the story, but there are many people who like it as well. But to be clear, watch the episodes that are marked 'mixed canon/filler.' That pretty much just means that there are scenes that happened in the manga, and other added in by the people who made the anime most likely to add comedic value.

What are the filler episodes and would it be fine if i watch them anyways

1 upvotes on reddit

dumbass_cuck · 4 years ago

Filler episodes don't follow the main plot and are irrelevant to the main story. It would be a waste of time to watch them since they're written by the anime studio and not the original series's author so they don't advance the plot at all and are never mentioned again so it's safe to skip them. However, mixed episodes (ones that include both manga canon and a little filler) should not be skipped.

Use this filler guide for Naruto and skip the red highlighted episodes and only watch the green.

After you finish Naruto, you can start watching Naruto Shippuden. Use this guide for Shippuden

Now, the only relevant and canon movie in the series is The Last: Naruto the Movie. Watch this movie after episode 493 of Naruto Shippuden.

After you finish Naruto Shippuden, you can start Boruto: Naruto Next Gen. Boruto Filler guide

As for the other movies, they are not relevant or canon to the story so you can watch them after you finish the series. Here's the order of the movies:

  1. Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow
  2. Legend of the Stone of Gelel
  3. Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom:
  4. Naruto Shippuden the Movie
  5. Naruto Shippuden the Movie: Bonds
  6. Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Will of Fire
  7. Naruto Shippuden the Movie: Blood Prison
  8. Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie
  9. The Last: Naruto the Movie (remember to watch this one after ep 493 of Shippuden as it is the only relevant movie out of them all)

Probably. All of the movies, except for movies 7 and 8 in shippuden arent canon, so you should be fine. Make sure to watch shippuden movie 7 after ep 484(?). Shippuden movie 8 takes place after the series ends but there's no point in watching if you intend to watch boruto, as there's an arc that covers and expands that same movie

Best order to watch Naruto

Here’s the best order to watch Naruto:

  1. Naruto (2002-2007) - Start with the original Naruto series, which has 220 episodes. This introduces the main characters and story arcs.

  2. Naruto: The Last Movie (2014) - After finishing the original series, you can watch this movie, which takes place after the events of Naruto.

  3. Naruto Shippuden (2007-2017) - Continue with Naruto Shippuden, which has 500 episodes. This series picks up two and a half years after the original and covers the more mature themes and battles.

  4. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations (2017-present) - Finally, you can watch Boruto, which follows the next generation of ninjas, including Naruto's son, Boruto.

Key Considerations:

  • Filler Episodes: Naruto and Naruto Shippuden contain filler episodes that are not part of the main storyline. If you want to skip fillers, consider using a filler guide to identify which episodes to skip.

  • Movies: There are several other Naruto movies, but they are generally not essential to the main storyline. You can watch them after completing the series if you're interested.

Recommendation: Watching in this order helps you follow the character development and overarching plot without confusion. Enjoy the journey through the ninja world!
