Missing Bistro d’Azur in South Orange!
Wow, this one's a throwback. We featured them back in 2019. Thanks for the reminder!!
Soon we’ll have Most Romantic MAGA Restaurants followed by the backlash Most Romantic Non-MAGA restaurants. Maybe that will inspire the Most Romantic MAGA Relationships …..
We don't do any politics or negative content on Best of NJ. We let other outlets rack up the clickbait/ragebait social media engagement, and instead just settle for positively promoting local businesses throughout the state (focusing on small independent spots and avoiding franchises and chains, for the most part). It gets fewer comments on Instagram but it's less depressing, so it feels like a net win.
That’s awesome. Thanks for the constructive response. Hope you recognize I was kidding.

Underground Supper Club 🙌🏻
The one in Carlstadt?
Yeah this one! https://www.sojfoodco.com/supper-club
Moonstruck Asbury park.
Honestly never heard of this spot. Thanks for the great recommendation!
Either this is a joke or you've never heard of one of the best overlooked restaurants in AP.
My first anniversary is coming up soon and I’m looking for suggestions for a nice restaurant. Good food obviously but the environment is something I’d really like to be nice too. I’m on the border of Ocean and Monmouth but willing to drive a little bit. Thanks in advance!
EDIT: thank you all! I’ve never heard of the vast majority of the suggestions so this was very helpful! We are now deciding between a few of them.
Drew's Bayshore Bistro in Keyport - best food around. You can look at photos online to see if the ambiance is for you, but imo the food is worth it
BYO, too! Call early to get a reservation. It can be hard to get in there. Worth it!
I haven't been since before COVID but holy crap do I miss their food (pretty much any of their fish dishes... and the SPCCT). Drew is an amazing chef.
Moonstruck in Asbury Park
Charlie's of Bay Head is right in your area. https://charliesofbayhead.com/
La Mondia in Brielle has been my favorite lately for a nice night out!
Scarborough Fair in Sea Girt has a cozy, romantic ambiance and good food.
Celebrating a three-year anniversary soon
Lambertville Inn in Lambertville. Clydz in New Brunswick. Agricola in Princeton.
Edit - sorry, apparently can't format on mobile.
Take Agricola off that list! Yuk.
James on Main, Hackettstown
Ninety Acres, Peapack-Gladstone
James on Main used to be great, but what's with their menu these days, since covid? Only offer a pre set menu?
It’s a bit more flexible than it appears, although the abandonment of a la carte dining is strange.
My wife and I recently did the three course, and each course had a decent handful of options; we each chose completely different and shared everything 50-50, so it was more of a tasting menu approach. The food itself is as good as ever, and the pacing was just spot on.
Rat’s restaurant, in Grounds for Sculpture (Hamilton).
The Frog & the Peach (New Brunswick).
Lokal Eatery (Jersey City)
Saddle River Inn (Saddle River)
I’ve never had a date night, but those places are top notch in the ambiance department, as well as good food, even at a premium.
Frog and peach is a fantastic option, place has very nice ambience and the food is killer. They often have a very nice tasting menu as well.
Adding to this - next to Lokal there is Hudson & Co. which is also great for a date.
I hope someone takes you out for a nice date soon.
Saddle River Inn
Juicy Platters. Start off the night juicy, end the night with a juicy ass yo.
Can anyone recommend places to go on a date in the Princeton area that tend to be quiet and have a kind of intimate feel in the evening? I'm looking to get together with someone where we can talk quietly without being overheard and not have to shout over music, but also have a little bit of an atmosphere going versus sitting somewhere in dead silence. Could be somewhere for drinks or a meal, or something outside that standard range possibly too. Bonus points if the setting allows for sitting close to each other rather than across a table. Thanks!
Ok, so if you have a car and are up for kind of an adventure, I really adored the Black Bass Hotel in Lumberville, PA. Might be more of a cozy Fall activity that you can pair with exploring New Hope…
For Princeton, I actually think Eno Terra is kind of a vibe (technically Kingston but not far). Agricola is great but I don’t know how date-y it feels to me. Mediterra is also nice.
I wish someone would open a low light tea house with a “small world after dark” vibe for cocktails and light bites.
If outdoors are your thing, it's very romantic to take a walk around the Institute for Advanced Study grounds and have a picnic out there. Had a guy take me there a few times and made me swooon
Prospect garden !
Prince Tea House :)
The most romantic place in the area is The Boat House in Lambertville. It’s very small and no food but good drinks and intimate. Try it on a weeknight as it doesn’t allow people standing after all seats are taken.
Looking to surprise my wife for dinner. What are your favorite restaurants and why in new Jersey?
A few suggestions...
There are so many places in NJ for amazing food and a good date night that you’re going to have to be more specific… Within a drive from where
Heirloom kitchen in old bridge on 516 won’t be disappointed!! Also byob! The asbury location isn’t
I know . So many places to choose from. I'm located in Union, NJ. So anywhere 30 minutes from here.
Restaurant Lorena’s in Maplewood. Then if you want you can stroll down to Village Ice Cream or St James Gate for a drink.
Have you done La Griglia on Kenilworth?
Lorena’s in Maplewood. Maybe scalini fe deli if you haven’t been?
Casa d'Paco in Newark
Semolina in Red Bank
Ehhhh half this sub is too racist and still living in 2004 to go out for dinner in Newark
Good point about BYO. You can buy bottles of wine at Heirloom if you forget or aren't picky. And they do have seasonal non-alcoholic drinks that sounded good and would probably go well with a splash of something if you bring a small bottle
Fornos of Spain…. Food is incredible, Portions are very Generous
Cafe Matisse in Rutherford if you can get a table.
Is it worth the 115 per person?
It's consistently rated the #1 romantic restaurant in NJ. Food is good too.
LaRocca in Montclair. My favorite.
Do you need to reserve here?
Yes, I would recommend a reservation.
Orangeburg, NY few minutes over border, IL Fresco. Cozy Stone cottage, fireplace, excellent service. Very good food, reasonable.Cute bar and fresh flowers!!
Anyone been to cafe Matisse in Rutherford? Although it’s 115 per person
Or anyone been to restaurant Lorena’s?
Been to Lorena's twice, had great experiences both times. The food is very good and the service we've had is even better. Would definitely recommend.
I have honestly wasn't impressed which was surprising since I've only heard good things about it.
I would pick something that’s - BYOB if it’s only $80+ tip.
Latour- French American, and I think on Sunday you can do their fixed menu. BYOB
-Bici in Ramsey is also BYOB
Thank you sir!!!
No budget, looking for a place with maybe a tasting menus? But not a requirement just want to hear some of your suggestions thank you!! 🥰

Heading to New Jersey this Saturday to celebrate my two year anniversary with my gf. We'll be visiting Soju Spa in Edgewater and wanna grab dinner afterwards. What are some of the best spots in the area? Budget is not a concern. We're down to eat anything. Italian, Chinese, French, etc.
Been a while since I’ve been here , but The Caves (formerly Archetypus) is a cool little spot - this would be my choice.
More for the views and standard modern gastropub food, Pier 115
Or have dinner elsewhere and dessert here
De Novo for a fantastic view over the Husdon, sometimes live band, food is above average Euro-Americana pub fare, valet parking only. $$$
Soba Noodle Azuma for a quiet Japanese local spot, authentic food and speed of service. No alcohol served here $$
Pintxo y Tapas, Spanish cuisine in a family style, lowkey vibe. Great food and wine variety, not too far from the spa. $$$
In that area:
River Palm Terrace
De Novo
Son Cubano
Chart House
Eat at the spa the food is incredible there!
Lots of good Italian food nearby in Hoboken.
Sorellina
Apulia
Flour
Hi there Reddit!! My fiancé (ah!) and I just got engaged today in the city but live here in JC and want to celebrate somewhere tomorrow. Really want it to just be a lowkey romantic restaurant for 2. Any cuisines/types of food accepted!!! Thanks in advance!
Ondo has a really nice romantic atmosphere and feels fancy.
Burger King
Holland Tunnel, Centeral Ave Heights, Comminpaw, or Newport Mall location? Which is more romantic, I can't decide!!!!
Gotta go with the Holland Tunnel location so you can then do a romantic evening at the Holland hotel.
Madams (just reopened). Great food and drinks. Congrats! :)
Congrats! We love Cellar 335, Franklin Social/Junto Attic Bar, Terra e Mare, Edwards Steakhouse. For an intimate breakfast, Sam a.m.! And I know it’s out of the way but Barbès in Hoboken
Whatever you do, definitely end at Junto Attic Bar!
Are they even running it now that they're in Miracle pop up mode?
Corto if you can get a res!
This is a great suggestion.
Ok so I'm in the kenilworth area but im willing to drive a bit if necessary. I want to take wife out to a really nice place. Like not button down shirt nice but suit and tie and dress nice. I'm sorry if I'm explaining this badly. I only just moved back to jersey and I don't remember the area really well. I'm in no rush cuz I have a lot of planning to do for other aspects of the night so if I need to make a reservation like a few months in advance that's fine. Anything helps thank you
90 Acres is a fantastic experience
If you don't mind a drive Blue Hill at Stone Barns
Nicholas in Red Bank
Chart House is my go to. It might be a bit far from Kenilworth though (idk if you’re ok with that but as long as you’re not going during rush hour you should be fine)
I’m actually going there for my birthday tomorrow. It’s my absolute favorite restaurant, the view is gorgeous. It’s an hour away from me but the drive is worth it IMO.
Nah the drive shouldn't be a problem thanks for the suggestion
Here are a few fine dining options:
