TL;DR
Skill Development and Patience
Cuphead is renowned for its difficulty, requiring players to develop their skills through repeated practice. Many players emphasize the importance of muscle memory and learning from trial and error [1:4]. The game becomes easier as you familiarize yourself with each boss's attack patterns and phases
[2:1]. It’s important to remain patient and persistent, as success often comes after numerous attempts and deaths
[1:5].
Weapon and Loadout Choices
Choosing the right weapons and charms can significantly impact your gameplay. Players suggest experimenting with different combinations to find what works best for each boss. For instance, the Roundabout and Spread shots are popular choices for their versatility and damage output [3:1]
[3:5]. Additionally, the Smoke Bomb charm is highly recommended for its ability to make you invulnerable while dashing, which can be crucial for dodging attacks
[3:3].
Understanding Boss Patterns
A critical strategy in Cuphead is understanding and memorizing boss patterns. This involves playing bosses multiple times to learn their moves and anticipate their attacks [3:2]. Watching S-rank tutorials can also provide insights into advanced strategies and help you get accustomed to upgraded attacks on higher difficulties
[2:2].
Power-Ups and Coins
Strategic use of power-ups can give you an edge in tough battles. Players recommend prioritizing certain upgrades, such as the improved dash, which can enhance your mobility and survivability [3:6]. It's also advised to be mindful of how you spend coins, as they are limited and should be used to purchase items that complement your playstyle
[3:8].
Community Resources and Tips
Engaging with the community can provide additional tips and support. Some players share detailed guides and strategies for each boss, particularly on expert mode [4:1]. These resources can be invaluable for players looking to achieve high ranks or complete challenging achievements. Additionally, discussing strategies with other players can offer new perspectives and techniques that you might not have considered

My brother just got Cuphead yesterday in hopes of adding to our list of indie games we've played; little did the two of us know that this game was hard as balls. Bro, y'all make this look so fucking easy doing it without taking damage. HOW DOES ONE BEAT THIS DAMN GAME!!!
>HOW DOES ONE BEAT THIS DAMN GAME!!!
Infinite amounts of trial and error, building skills more and more across a period of multiple hours a day, trying new strategies, retrying old strategies,
and a WHOLE lot of dying.
imo the most satisfying part of the game is in your own skill progression. I’m stuck on the Devil in the base game, but I know I will beat him eventually - the fight is fair and it’s just a matter of fine-tuning my reflexes and responses, as it was for every other fight in the game.
I was looking at my boss fight scores and noticed that I got a B- for Goopy Le Grande and an A- for Dr. Kahl’s Robot, lol. The game truly does get easier with practice (and a lot of patience).
İn sekiro terms
Git gud
I think those are hollow knight terms...
Just git gud mate
Just kidding, the game is all about muscle memory, be cartain that these people that finish the game without taking damage, already died A LOT before being able to do this
I'll have to try several times before you remember "Now the boss will do this, now an enemy will appear here"
I'm currently s ranking the devil and king dice. P ranked and s ranked everyone else. I had a little under 500 deaths after a+ everything the first go round on normal (including the run n guns), and I did a ton of resetting. I'm sure I'm now over a thousand and I've still be resetting. It's also my first time playing lol
I won't even try to S rank everything, would like to, but my mental health is more important
So in other words…
Just git gud mate
It can be really hard lmao, I got it without knowing how hard it was and didn't play for months, honestly it's really hard to beat bosses the first time but you do get the hang of it, the people making it look easy have just been through the rounds
It is formally known as The Great Cuphead War in my house. 300 percent on all 3 saves. About 3 years ago. It is my greatest achievement to this day.
Why is it a war? Did it have any casualties? (smashed controllers do count)
At some point, you just become
look up s rank tutorials, i know you’re not going to do s rank, but s rank still does need to be on expert mode, watch s rank tutorials so you get used to their new upgraded attacks and listen to their tips
hope this helps
Do i need to get S ranks to get that achievement?
nah, you just have to beat every stage on expert the grade doesn’t matter
Nope
Mix up your load out snd learn what good is good for what
Not really any advice other than be good at the game. Know every boss' phases and attack patterns
Just got it in the mail last night and spent three hours playing it this afternoon. This is far and away the hardest game I have ever played. Definitely would appreciate any tips especially what to use coins on. God bless anyone who has beaten this game, especially 100%.
Play a boss enough so you understand patterns. After that you can beat any boss with any weapon.
My 100% achievements playtrough took 2800 deaths.
Depends on how you want to play, and what boss you’re fighting. If you like to stay back and shoot from a far, like with ribby and croaks for instance, roundabout would be a good option. If you prefer to do higher dps and enjoy close combat (which can be harder) something like spread would be better. A lot of the fun of the game comes from trying different stuff and seeing what’s the most effective for any particular boss. But if you get bored or feel like you’re struggling with a specific boss, don’t feel bad about looking up the recommendations for that boss. Remember, you gotta have a great plan and then some! Hope you enjoy the journey :)
Thank you! I don’t really have a preference as far as style. Just whatever makes it easier to accomplish beating the stages/bosses. I only beat two in three hours. I think it’ll take some time to get used to the mechanics.
And that’s fine! When I was first starting out it was sooo hard but after a while you learn the movement and how to avoid stuff and it gets easier. Definitely get smoke bomb if you’re having trouble avoiding attacks, as it makes you immune to damage while you’re dashing. Helped immensely on my first play through
honestly. roundabout and spread or roundabout and crackshot got me thru most of the game
Ty
Get the improved dash asap. Also the roundabout shot is insane if you know how to use it
Definitely think and do research before spending coins cuz you only get so many . Chaser, spread and smoke charm are great
Yeah, I might have to restart
There’s detailed explanations on YouTube of locations of coins and if beat run and gun level without getting all coins you can go back to get them all
As most of you probably know by now, the Cuphead DLC is coming out at the end of the month. So to celebrate, I decided I’m going to be posting tips for each boss in the main game.
These tips will be based on my experiences on achieving the S rank for all bosses, including advice on what weapon setup to take and how to evade all the different attacks. I will be posting tips for one boss a day, every day, until the release of the DLC.
I’ll be listing the bosses in order, starting with The Root Pack. I’ll be posting every day, so stay tuned if there’s a boss you’re still working on and you need tips!
Can I have some Expert Mode Tips
All of my tips will be based on Expert mode and my personal strategies for achieving every S rank. I’ll be posting each boss in order, so keep an eye out for whichever bosses you need help with!
Well I gonna try S Rank but I lose my sanity
Crackshot and super 1 with Ms. Chalice
I used super II, the extra hp with chalice was a huge help. And by the time the extra health gets taken away, I have enough for another.
I used Super II when I beat saltbaker with an A+ first try
Chrackshot, chaser for 3rd and last phase, chalice and super art 11, that's how I s ranked him
Seems redundant, to me personally. Crackshot really is the cooler Chaser, and I hate going without Roundabout.
Roundabout didn't really work with the last stage for me, but the 2nd and third it helped definantly. The last part I always got hit because I have a skill issue, so chaser worked better
Does your copy of Cuphead have 8 extra mausoleums lol
HOW DO YOU GET SUPER 11???
Lol super 2 I meant
Cuphead, Mugman, Chalice or this friendly cook?
To defeat Cuphead all you have to do is take damage three times
ok i have 1 left what now
So I was playing CUPHEAD in mobile and I was in isle 2 And bruh every boss in there is very hard. So I just want some tips
Are you changing your weapons for each boss? My advice is to fight one boss at a time, get good at that and then keep going. Gotta keep practicing.
Ok
Been playing for awhile.
Early, my advice is to get Smokebomb (invincible dash) and the Roundabout weapon first.
Spend your first 4 coins on Roundabout. Do the first Run-n-Gun and then buy Smokebomb.
Those 2 items should be able to carry you through Isle 1 and quite a few other bosses.
Coffee is a good item for plane levels to be able to spam ex attack more frequently.
Have fun!
Roundabout and smokebomb is good advice. I've beaten the game with 0 deaths (not including the DLC) on expert using pretty much only roundabout.
Cuphead was brutal for me until I started paying attention to the upgrade path and what weapons I was choosing. The right loadouts will make the toughest boss far more manageable.
Which layout is best for von bon bon?
I used chaser and spread for that one (spread just in case the gum ball machine comes out. Chaser is good for the rest of it)
What is cuphead in mobile?
Use an xbox controller. And a good mindset
🤔
Yes, as we know, Cuphead is not an easy game. Mainly because of the boss fights. You gotta have skill for sure. This game really puts you to the test. I’ve been playing this since 2020 and maaan.. it feels damn good to get an S rank, especially one handed. Cuphead and Sekiro are the two games that really tests my skill. Are you a fan?
One handed?! On the flower boss?! /j
Yup! Hated flower the most in isle one lol 😂
Maybe I should go into Super mario community and ask "who's a fan of Mario?"
Jokes aside, glad you enjoy the game and congratulations on S rank with 1 hand
lol I know that was dumb of me 😅 but yes, playing one handed isn’t too bad, but having to do two commands with one hand takes a lot of practice and focus. I appreciate it 💯
I love the game so much I got a 300% save file and all 42 achievements
I think we all are a fan bud
It’s such a damn good, but challenging game for sure!
Yup, it's flipping amazing
Did you just go to the cuphead subreddit and ask who’s a fan of cuphead?
Yes I did. You never know. 😅
Always be shooting, most basic tip but also the most useful learn how to move, dodge, dash and parry all while holding down the x button, it’ll save a lot of time and you’ll beat the bosses way faster
How do you parry???
Press jump on a pink thing (usually projectile) while in air
Dashing and parrying are the two skills you need to learn the most. If you ever get stuck, it's likely that one of those can save you. Finally, always consider what guns and charm to use in each level
How do you parry???
By pressing jump in midair you'll do a "parry" move that let's you absorb pink attacks when you collide with them and add a card to your super meter. It's a timing thing to learn, but well worth getting good at
Roundabout and lobber are the best along side with the invisible dash. Your first super is the only good one you get honestly. But that’s my opinion. Also just switch the controls for shoot to right bumper. Original controls make the game 10x more anal
Me who got all the achievements with default controls: 👁️👄👁️
Remember, your monitor loves you for who you are. It is not laughing at you for failing a boss fight. Do not punch a hole through it.
Or your controllers fault. (I'm sorry little buddy)
Huh? All I see is toast.
Console fs. PC controls are solid imo. But I play groove coaster on pc so I don’t think any game can annoy me when it comes to fast clicks on a keyboard lol
Title says it all. I got cuphead, and i wanted to know any tips for a newbie
don't ask this subreddit how to get an A+
but in all seriousness, if any of the bosses are hard, do them on simple mode, and if you beat them then after or later you can come back to them and do the boss on regular mode
But also know that you will need to complete them all on regular mode to unlock the ending.
I completed them all on simple mode and had to go back after realizing I couldn't unlock the last but until I finished all on regular.
It was somewhat easier the second go around becasue my skills had gotten better.
yeah
One boss a week, your sanity will thank you
LMAO brother
Do the mausoleums
Do you recommend a wireless switch pro controller? When playing the game? I am using the the joy control that comes with the console.
it doesn't really matter much, so whichever you're more comfortable with
The what?
these things. they give you Super EX's which you can use by pressing the EX button when you have 5 cards
Learn breathing exercises
For boss fight you should use a weapon that fits, and one that deal tons of damage. At example for beppy the clown (isle 2) you may use the roundabout, that makes the fight easier, and spread, to deal damage and make the fight shorter. "Damaging" weapons are usually spread, charged, and lobber.
Remember, more damage = shorter fight = less hits = S rank. :3
glad I could help little tips for cup head are my specialty
Its kinda wild how you have to hack to beat this section of the game
you basically have to use the konami code to get a 10% higher jump, then just press A and D repeatedly until you encountered Freddy Fazbear, after beating him a door to Mushroom Kingdom will appears, you'll need to go to the Mushroom Kingdom via the door and defeat Bowser. After defeating Bowser, Princess Peach will give you access to a ritual, you will need to capture and sacrifice Trevor, Michael and Franklin from gta5 to perform the ritual which will teleport you to the Icon of Sin, just kill it and you will get teleported back to the tutorial with a 20% higher jump, it may take a few hours to make an exactly perfect jump to get through, but once you get through the tutorial, you will only need to do 100 more quests to beat Ganondorf
damn okay😔😔 wish me luck
Remember one thing :
"Equipped load will be lower if fast roll is needed" - Elon Musk, The Art of War
Freddy Fazbear🐻 har har har
Do this:
Aight heres what you have to do turn on build mode and build a ramp
Forthead
Womp womp 🎺 But no really, just so you know, it’s perfectly fine to be stuck on the tutorial. I started Cuphead 4 years ago and I couldn’t get past this either. Now, I’ve completed the game a ton of times on the hardest difficulties
Best strategies for beating Cuphead
Here are some effective strategies for beating Cuphead:
Learn Enemy Patterns: Each boss has unique attack patterns. Spend time observing their movements and attacks to anticipate and dodge effectively.
Use the Right Weapons: Experiment with different weapons and charms. The Spread Shot is great for close-range, while the Chaser is useful for tracking enemies. The Smoke Bomb charm can help you dodge attacks more easily.
Practice Parrying: Master the parry mechanic to deflect pink projectiles. This not only helps you avoid damage but also builds your Super meter for powerful attacks.
Stay Mobile: Always keep moving. Cuphead is a game that punishes stationary players. Use dashes and jumps to avoid incoming attacks.
Co-op Play: If possible, play with a friend. Co-op mode allows for shared health and can make some bosses easier to defeat.
Upgrade Wisely: Invest in upgrades that suit your playstyle. Prioritize health upgrades and useful charms that enhance your survivability.
Take Breaks: If you find yourself getting frustrated, take a break. Returning with a fresh mindset can help you see patterns and strategies you might have missed.
Recommendation: Focus on mastering one boss at a time. Completing each level and boss before moving on will help you build skills and confidence. Don’t hesitate to replay earlier levels to gather coins for upgrades, as they can significantly enhance your chances of success against tougher bosses.
