TL;DR
Performance and Features
Tesla vehicles are often praised for their performance, with many users highlighting the acceleration and driving experience. For instance, the Model S Plaid offers incredible speed and power, making it a favorite among enthusiasts [5:4]. The Model 3, while more affordable, still provides excellent tech features such as Autopilot and over-the-air updates, which many owners find appealing
[1:2].
Comparison to Other Vehicles
Many Tesla owners compare their cars to previous vehicles they've owned, noting that Tesla's electric drivetrain and technology set them apart. However, some users feel that the build quality and materials may not match those of traditional luxury brands like BMW or Porsche [1:3],
[1:5]. It's also noted that the first EV experience can be particularly impactful, leading to high satisfaction initially
[1:6].
Service and Maintenance
Service experiences with Tesla vary widely. Some users report positive interactions with Tesla service centers, while others have had less satisfactory experiences [3:1],
[3:9]. The lack of competition in Tesla service can sometimes lead to issues, but the convenience of mobile service is appreciated by some
[3:10].
Charging Network
One of Tesla's standout features is its extensive Supercharger network, which is often cited as a major advantage over other electric vehicle manufacturers [1:9]. This network makes long-distance travel more feasible and convenient, contributing significantly to the overall Tesla ownership experience.
Alternative Electric Vehicles
While Tesla remains a leader in the electric vehicle market, alternatives like the Polestar 2 and various models from BMW and Volkswagen are gaining attention. These vehicles offer different strengths, such as build quality and service experiences, which might appeal to those considering options beyond Tesla [1:7],
[4:1].
I often see people say that their Tesla is the best car that they have ever owned which makes me wonder what they are benchmarking against. My experience with Tesla is extremely limited so I cannot form an opinion about the quality of their cars (I have been in a handful of high mileage Teslas via Uber). I currently drive a Toyota, which has been a great vehicle, but when I compare it with my last car, which was a Porsche - it doesn't measure up very well. So for those who say their Tesla is the best car they have ever owned, what are you benchmarking against?
I thought my 2021 S was “the best car.” And I thought my 3 before it was right up there as well. It’s an intoxicating mix of it being one’s first electric, the best acceleration ever owned, great tech with ota updates, autopilot being great for highway driving, supercharger network working well for long trips and zero maintenance. Then, after 6ish years of Tesla ownership, there was an immediate sale following a sig heil. Turns out the new BMW plug-in hybrid is now “the best car” ever. Soooo much goddamn better than the S. Better made in every aspect. The tech is amazing and it drives like a dream (inc an autopilot equivalent). We were delusional and at the teet of Tesla. Thankfully, Elmo nazied and woke many of us up.
I prefer this sub to the nauseating cultishness of the main Tesla subs, but this sub can jump on the opposite bandwagon too sometimes. Now that it's clear that buying a Tesla is contributing to the end of democracy and the empowering of Nazis, Tesla can't be considered a serious option anymore. But this sub can get too high on it's own supply and overlook many things the company did right and why it was so popular before. Other car companies need to learn from it.
The charging network is unparalleled. Anyone who thinks this is a minor concern has never really considered living in an EV-only household. The only reason other EVs are viable for many is still reliant on Tesla, namely using their network. It's infuriating that nobody is trying to build a network to rival them. Tesla can kill access to its network at any time. I wouldn't put it past their vindictive manchild CEO.
A lot of comparisons here aren't equivalent. A hybrid does not replace an EV. You're paying for two drivetrains which is just inefficient, adding cost and complexity for something that can't directly compete with a pure gas or EV option in many ways. An EV can go 300 miles on electric power with exceptional acceleration and at low operating cost. Hybrid batteries cannot compete on range, not even close, and battery management (which leads to battery longevity) just isn't the same on hybrids. The BMW hybrid starts at $47k for a sedan, and the SUVs are over $70k. And that's before the reality that getting MSRP through a dealership model is a nightmare that normally adds thousands to the actual price and is just a miserable experience.
Autopilot, for all its flaws, can pretty much always be used. No dealers. The peerless charging network. Pricing is generally quite good for an EV with good range and high efficiency without sacrificing performance. The price you see is the price you pay. Many comparison cars here are in a different pricing segment and not directly applicable.
Tesla is a sleazy company that enables the end of our way of life. It must be stopped. But gloating about how there is no there there in the Tesla ownership experience is missing the many lessons to learn from the company's history.
But none of what you said (aside from autopilot) has anything to do with the car itself. Not the way it handles, drives, performs, cabin noise, comfort, build quality, none of that.
You could say "its a good EV because the support it receives is good", but what about the car itself would make it the best car they've owned?
My hunch is that most people who ended up in a tesla were people driving slow commuter cars so finally jumping in to an okay car with nice acceleration and power was mind blowing to them.
This is the true answer...
The first EV you drive will always be the best car you've ever driven. The next EV you ever drive will also be the best car you've ever driven, because you have a new benchmark.
I understand what you’re saying, but I dissagree.
I’ve driven friends Teslas, and recently bought a Polestar two with all the performance options, none are as good of a car as my golf GTI.
>The first EV you drive will always be the best car you've ever driven.
I get where you're going with that, but man, that's an oversimplification. My first EV was a Chevy Bolt. I loved that car! It was perfect for what I needed it for, and the deal I got on it was outstanding. But it was not a better car than the BMW M car I traded in.
The Model Y my wife got next was nicer than the Bolt in some ways but not better in build quality or the service experience.
This is 100% true for me
Telsa was the best "car" not most fun or nicest etc, but Dog mode, remote AC guilt free, no gas stations, autopilot etc.
then Taycan GTS was the best car by a long shot -- again not the most fun, but damn that car is nice
I swear to you, after driving various teslas that my freaking KIA EV6 is better than the lot.
It is just a reflection of how good EVs can be. Yes, the teslas were better when they hit the road, but Elmo wasted his advantage on the wankpanzer, the FSD illusion, robotaxis and now attempting to turn the us into some weird nazi germany/ apartheid SA hybrid. Fuck him and fuck Tesla.
We drove Tesla intending to buy one back in 2018. I've owned a LOT of different makes/models/levels of cars topping out at the BMW level. More typically Toyota/Lexus, Honda/Acura with a few GM and others sprinkled in. When we drove the Tesla (which listed for over $50K at the time) my immediate reaction was that the tech was excellent, but the car felt like a Kia/Mazda level car. Cheap materials inside, and the whole "simple" aesthetic just struck me as lazy. No way was it worth more than we paid for a BMW 5 series several years before. It didn't even feel as well made as a Honda Civic.
We went on to buy an Acura MDX sport hybrid that I'm just now selling after 125K miles and near zero issues. I'm selling it because a year ago we bought a 2022 Audi eTron. As has been mentioned - best car I've ever owned!!!
I'm seeing the term "death spiral" used to describe Tesla in the financial world at the moment. What happens when your mediocre car company whose value was based on a cult of personality finds out the personality is toxic? I think we're about to find out.
Owned 10, probably driven 50+ when you consider rentals and test drives.
Model 3 isn’t even top 10.
agree. But I would put the Model 3 in the top 5 for poor ride quality.
Sorry dude, I am not defending Tesla here but the i4 is nothing to write home about and to own the iX I think you have to be one of the Russian oligarchs DJT and Elmo love so much. The Neue Klasse, yeah maybe...
Had my Tesla since December last year. It's the best car I've ever driven. The way I breeze past other cars easily on the road is highly enjoyable.
Same just got a hw4 2023 and love it so far the best car I ever drove. I’m on vacation now and miss it haahhahaha
Great to hear. So is yours pre-Juniper? If so, how’s road noise and ride quality?
Honestly have no complaints with road noise or ride quality. Maybe because I've driven rubbish cars in the past..
They must have made running changes because I have a 3/25 MYP and have had no complaints of noise or harshness or anything. Those evo suv tires may have helped too..
Yes pre-juniper
I just picked up mine on Saturday, and it's been a great experience. Still waiting on the Tesla wall charger to come in, but in the mean time charging at work has been painless. They ride really well as well. Can't say I'd get anything else aside from this.
Tesla is best car I agree but they do have worst service. Their insurance is bad and there collision repair is bad. I don’t know why they are concentrating on new sales instead of people actually bought vehicles.
I feel like Elon musk only likes making money instead of helping people who believed in him and bought his stupid cars.
One of the greatest villains of all time it’s Elon musk
Although not cheap, I’ve had good service from Audi dealers pretty consistently. But since they make money from service and there’s local dealer competition, that probably helps. There isn’t yet enough competition for Tesla to give AF about service. The people in Tesla who cared about service left a decade ago and those who are left are Elon evangelists. Source: 2016 Model X owner, I am intimately familiar with Tesla service.
My mother's Jeep Grand Cherokee is in the shop, estimated repair under warranty is 2 months. She's super pissed.
I've had poor dealer experience after poor dealer experience myself. So far I've only had good tesla experiences.
Or Kia service. Try dealing with them and then reassess.
Honestly though, ive had nothing but great experiences and I've used Tesla service as well as Tesla insurance.
Before Tesla, I had VW. From my experience, Tesla service is a way better. Probably 100 people, 100 experiences.
7th Tesla live next door to factory. Still terrible. Maybe its worse in California than elsewhere.
I also have had great service with Tesla on my Solar and cars. I don’t doubt anyones horror stories. But people rarely post “Hey guys my service experience was perfectly fine. Nothing special, just fine.” Most people post when they have a story to tell. Interesting stories are either horrible or exceptionally good service.
My friend hasn't gotten a door for her Cadillac SUV in 6 months.
My local body shop has a Model S quarter panel on the shelf.
Every company sucks at this.
Funny, I feel the exact same way about Honda and Volkswagen service. Honestly, I think Ford is the only service center that ever really tried to make me happy and that was probably just a very professional crew.
I had my Model Y in last week and the service center did a decent job. The tech was awesome and way above average.
So far ive been into the service shop 4 times. They keep fixing one issue and causing 2 more, or never fix the issue. And every time they attempt to charge me until I argue and they do it for free. They are all clearly warranty issues. It all rattling/cameras/leaks/computer replacements. Ive almost permanently had an open service ticket since i got the car in june.
Edit: i love the car…just hate that they constantly argue with me that I should be paying.
Took Ford over 6 months to repair my New F350, that blew its motor at 5,000 km. When asking for a loaner they said eat shit.
I had my F150 back window glass explode. I had glass insurance. Insurance would t cover as it was a known Ford defect. It took me a letter to every local Ford dealer, Ford Canada, and then CTV news to get it replaced.
Tesla, when I had an issue, drove their mobile. Team right to my house and solved it.
To some extent it'll vary by dealership for other brands. The 3 cars I had before my Tesla were all Chevy and I never had any problem getting issues taken care of at one of the Chevy dealerships near me. The other Chevy dealership here will never get any of my business though because they're some stuck-up assholes and it's owned by this idiot that refuses to sell EVs. Really just depends on the ownership.
My friend has a Bolt and he loathes any day he has to interact with Chevrolet. They tell him things like "it'll take a month before we can even look at your car," which didn't even turn out to be true.
So …… how do you choose one in the garage?? They all wag their tails as you get close …. Who wins the drive?
Need a refresh model S LR or Plaid.
i’ll definitely try to cop one if i find a good deal on one
Sir, I think you have a issue lmfao love it
I just bought a p100dl yesterday 😂 definitely needed a fast one in the lineup
You living the dream!
Not good enough for the cover photo though
A cherry picked, 3 minute read medium blog? We're that desperate for content?
That article has zero information in it.
That article lacked any real substance, pretty sure it could have been a tweet.
Is the article even worth reading when the author doesn’t know the difference between a 3 and S?
More interesting if you don't pick an EV!
Genesis g90 ultimate
ah great car. I also like gv80
I would probably be my Accord EX still. Love that car. Wish Honda would put out a real EV.
Well before all these companies started announcing they were going to the Tesla standard I probably would have got a Civic Type R or a VW Golf R. Staying with EV’s I’d probably be a Rivian owner.
+1 on the Golf R! Just came from one recently and while I love my P100D, I did love my R! Awesome vehicle, great to mod with minimal issues! Only other vehicle I would’ve considered is a TT RS
Probably one of:
Hyundai Elantra N
Toyota GR86
Subaru BRZ
Mazda Miata
Audi A5 Sportback
Generally, guys my age would want to get Chargers/Challengers, but I think a smaller sports car/sporty sedan would fit me better
Motorcycle. Which seems to be rotting lately.
Hop back on from time to time. Every time I do I remember why I keep it.
Same, been thinking of just selling my Harley.
Hello! Hope someone can give me their opinion or an advice
I am looking for a car and I am seriously considering a Tesla Model 3 AWD, I have even done the reservation

I am not a petrolhead neither someone who "loves" driving, In a car I would rather prefer technology and confort rather than horsepower. My first option was an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the hatchback, which was in a very very appealing price thanks to an offer from the dealership. I was in love with the car, everything was awesome, I love its exterior design and its interior is super fancy, but, as you may know the technology isn't Alfa's strength.
Naturally, I started looking into other option to compare. I went to BMW to see the 1 Series, I liked the hatchback but I think the Alfa was better, but the dealership offered me a very very good discount in the 1 Series Sedan, 23,000 USD. I considered it thoroughly since it is a good price and has more technology than Alfa, but it is RWD, that is something I don't care too much actually, but BMW typically uses RWD, so, I wasn't technically buying a BMW (which btw is made in China). My other options were A3 and A Class, MBUX was great.

But then, I saw a Tesla and started investigating and I fell in love with all its characteristics and technological features. Now I am kinda worried because I don't know if I am making a good decision, how good the Tesla actually is in comparison with its "competitors". I mean, with the price of a Tesla I could buy a 3 Series, C Class or A4. I don't know if I am making a good decision and I am worried I am doing something more passional than intelligent.

Whats your opinion? Thanks for reading me!
I would get the Tesla if I could. All the technology I’m looking for, and they have very good warranties. Go test drive one!
There is no greater Tesla hater on this board than I am, because I am a dyed-in-the-wool manual transmission guy who enjoys car maintenance. That being said, based on what you have written, you are the ideal Tesla buyer.
You do need to consider charging stations, any modifications you need to do to your home and garage, and if your work has free charging. If those are sufficient to meet your needs, Tesla all the way
Teslas are no in my book too. OP could easily find low mileage second hand German luxury cars for the price of a Model 3.
Second hand cars are not an option. And as I said, I am not a big fan of the driving itself, so I wouldn’t consider a M3 since they are oriented mainly to performance. But thanks for your answer!
In that case, I would consider a 3 Series.
Best answer ever! Thank you.
I do not work but my university has a lot of charging parking spots, so thats okay, and I imagine there wont be any major problem with my garage.
I was worried by the price factor, you know, maybe with that money I could buy a better car (?)
Get the Tesla. You want tech. You’ll love it
My dad just got one and it's honestly like nothing else I've been in.
It has a whoopie cushion mode and you can customize which seat and which type of fart noise you want it to make.
Alfa has poor support in the US and questionable build quality. Italian parts are $$$.
Other luxury brands are expensive to repair and upkeep, gas engines are out the door within the next decade or so anyways.
Just buy the 3, you're not going to regret it.
They're not in the US - the Giuletta is sold overseas, as is the 1 series.
Indeed. I am from Mexico actually, which is the only country where the 1 series sedan is sold along with China.
Should have been tipped off by Petrolhead I guess
I know a few people with a Model 3. They all love them. There are a bunch of new EVs coming out in 2020 and 2021. But, nobody has the charging network of Tesla. Tesla is an incredible company, but I wouldn't say that I think they are that much better than any other EV. They have good tech, and they are first to market. So, if you want to compare Tesla to it's competitors, you're going to need to wait for a few years.
All that said, my buddy just bought a BMW i3. It's clearly not as nice as the Tesla. But it's still a really cool car. That's not to say you should look at the i3. Just that many more EVs are coming and coming fast.
In terms of the passion vs intelligent comment. Do your research. Drive the ones you like. Make sure you buy the car you love, not the one you like. The model 3 is an awesome car. Have fun shopping
Old news, Tesla is will never be what it was.
Surprised why?
Backlash to Musk? The election didn’t even happen until November. That’s the end of the year.
Also the Tesla’s numbers YoY are down.
That’s assuming this graphic is actuate.
A large part of Tesla’s sales are in China, who presumably don’t know or couldn’t care less about his interference in American politics
That makes the drop in sales in China harder to explain.
Wealthier Chinese follow American trends and getting a cheese coated swasticar decoration isn’t cool. Cybertrucks are a laughing stock, as is Trump, and Musk just shuttered the FAA and pushed through an unsafe rocket launch that exploded brilliantly shutting down airports and causing even more environmental damage
Not exactly reassuring marketing when your companies are accused of shoddy work, you say, nah, you’re being too sensitive, chainsaw through the red tape, and blow up the rocket anyways! That’ll show ‘em, it’s not like it’s rocket science
If uncovering waste, abuse and fraud is interfering with American politics then give us more, please!
according to goggle ai, it says model y is the most sold in 2024, but I don't really see alot 9f those. I don't even see alot of tslas on the road, it usually only comes out on sunny Sundays.
so I checked America's best selling car, Ford f150, no tslas on the list, checked Australia. Ford again, no tsla, china, byd, and tsla as number 8.
Russia, they don't have tslas in Russia
Germany: vw, tsla is number 20
At this point, I don't think tsla model y is the best selling car in the world
Half of those sales were in China.
And Tesla wholesale figures were off by a shocking 50% the last month over there.
China are going home brew now and have decided to dump the derp.
china's number 1 seller is byd, and is half price or cheaper compared to tsla, and tsla is number 8, but idk
Model y is an old model, Tesla is launching the new model this month so people stopped buying it while waiting for the new model...
Too bad it's their only car.
And on resale value along, no.
Toyota prefers those profit margins though
Im curious as to why the camry has sold at half the rate of the corolla when the only difference is that it's the next vehicle size up
Picked up my first ever Tesla on Monday, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it so far! This car is absolutely gorgeous.
I test drove your car back-to-back with the Performance version and actually found very little difference.
If I'd never driven the M3P I'd have been VERY impressed with your version. And frankly, your version accelerates fast enough for all but the most power-hungry.
P.S. I'm getting the M3P. LMAO
P.S. #2 - CONGRATULATIONS !!! Enjoy.
Looks great. For anyone who’s leased before, can you switch to leasing even when your car has been delivered and you have been approved for financing? Not sure if Tesla allows that, but I’m on the border on whether leasing would be a better option due to being a first time buyer, unsure of future policies regarding EVs, and technology always updating hastily.
lease almost always financially worse. you own nothing.
Yes, you’re right about that. It has its advantages, but the cost overall will be higher as you continue to lease. I have ordered a new model 3 and it’s currently waiting for pickup while I sort out the downpayment. I just have concerns as a new EV owner when it comes to depreciation, degradation, etc.

Interior and Features:
Price:
Recommendation: If you're looking for the best overall Tesla, the Model 3 is often recommended due to its balance of price, performance, and range. It offers a great entry point into the Tesla ecosystem without compromising on features. However, if you prioritize luxury and performance, the Model S is the top choice. For those needing more space, the Model Y is an excellent option that combines utility with Tesla's performance and technology.
