When it comes to selecting the best toilet seat brands, several options stand out based on durability, comfort, and additional features. Below are some of the top recommendations from various discussions.
Kohler
Kohler is frequently mentioned as a reliable brand for both toilets and toilet seats. They offer quick-release mechanisms, which are particularly useful for easy cleaning [1:1]. Kohler seats are known for their quality and longevity, although some users have noted that they can sometimes be problematic
[2:9].
TOTO
TOTO is highly recommended, especially for bidet toilet seats. The TOTO Washlet S550e is praised for its advanced features and reliability [4:2]. Users appreciate the brand's durability and functionality, making it a popular choice for those looking for high-end options
[4:5].
Brondell
Brondell is another well-regarded brand, particularly in the realm of bidet seats. It offers good value for money and is often recommended in forums focused on long-lasting products [4:8]. Users have reported satisfaction with its performance and features
[4:12].
Church
Church toilet seats are noted for their soft-close feature, which many users find life-changing [3:3]. They also come with metal hardware, which adds to their durability and makes them a reliable option for those looking for sturdy toilet seats.
Topseat
Topseat's 'Art of Acryl' series has been mentioned for its aesthetic appeal and durability [1:4]. While not as widely discussed as other brands, it has received positive reviews from users who have had them for several years without issues.
Material Considerations
Enameled wood and ceramic seats are often recommended over plastic for their sturdiness and comfort [1:2]
[1:3]. Plastic seats can be satisfactory if made from solid, hard plastic, but they generally lack the durability of wood or ceramic options
[1:3].
In conclusion, when choosing a toilet seat, consider factors such as material, brand reputation, and additional features like soft-close or quick-release mechanisms. Brands like Kohler, TOTO, Brondell, Church, and Topseat offer a range of options that cater to different needs and preferences.
Yes yes, toilet seats can get gross and most people probably think they should be replaced every few years etc, but I was kinda thinking:
Cheap, thin plastic toilet seat cost very little but they tend to bend, move around and crack rather quickly = landfill.
There must be some materials, plastics or finishes that are bad and some that are very good: long lasting and truly close to impermeable = if you clean the toilet seat carefully and regularly it should not become gross, no matter what.
Another reason why I am less worried about, and less inclined to, chuck out toilet seat every 1 to 3 years is that I have no children, don't plan on any and my toilets are always sitting only, for both gals and guys, it is kinda common here in Germany that, everyone just sits to pee.
I actually bought a very nice toilet seat once that has a helpful aspect: you press a button quick release thing at the back and 95%+ of the assembly/toilet seat is detached within 2 seconds, allowing you disinfect and clean it, even in the shower if you like. Only thing that is left behind is small and easy to keep clean. One I bought is not by this brand, so I am not shilling, just for illustration: https://youtu.be/ub3fUwC05fs?t=9
So BI4L, any thoughts on a soft close!, quick release, easy to clean toilet seat? XD
Ones that come with a lifetime warranty? <- Ok now I am really pushing it/mostly joking hehe.
This is nonsense, a ceramic toilet seat will last ages. Don't buy plastic toilet seats.
Link/source please? Any affordable (not cheap) options you know of?
You can find enameled wood seats quite readily; here's one at Lowes: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Mansfield/5013579657
Not as durable as ceramic/porcelain but nicer than plastic.
Not sure what region you're in, but I would recommend touching a seat in-store to get a feel for the sturdiness. Seats that flex will wear more over time, and may be made of softer/more permeable materials.
Plastic can be find if you get a solid, hard plastic; you won't be able to distinguish that well online.
I'd recommend checking your local hardware store or home repair retailer and browsing what's in stock to get a better feel for it. I wouldn't recommend soft-close latches typically; simpler is better, less to clean, less to break. If it does break, replacement parts are common and easy to come by.
I didn't see any porcelain seats on amazon at quick glance; probably need to buy from a hardware store.
Edit, looks like you might be in the EU; apologies, I can't speak to what stores would be available in your region.
While not BI4L, our Topseat brand seat bought on Amazon has held up beautifully for the past 4 years. It's from their 'Art of Acryl' series.
Just because quick release: bullseat. They're generally very good quality, have been using mine for 6 years with no issues. You might want to tighten the anchor points after some time though. Or just completely uninstall, clean the mount holes and reinstall.
My Kohler seat has a quick release. It's amazing to have with a potty training boy.
Looking to replace two toilets in my house and want to know what i should buy? I want something that fills up with enough water along with a powerful flush and chair height.
I am a big fan of Toto. We have two since 2006 and they are great. Good size surface area body of water and a powerful flush.
This is the correct answer. I installed the wall hung in client’s houses for years. I bought one. Hasn’t clogged once in 8 years. Even under severe conditions like thanksgiving turkey fry with the entire family.
Which model Toto did you install? What are the pros and cons of wall or floor install? Thanks.
Is it loud? I read a review of someone saying so
Not really louder than other regular toilets. Some toilets use a "power flush" system which is a bit loud.
You can’t hate the Drake. Awesome toilet.
This is why I try out all the toilets at the store before I buy one.
Whichever toilet you choose, do yourself, (and the plumber) a big favor and avoid skirted toilets by all means.
TOTO we love ours
We got the Toto Promenade II
Check out the Kohler Santa Rosa line... Pretty good reviews. Toto is up there too.
Kohler....
It's always a busted Kohler.
First time doing a seat switch out. I figure it will be easy but no idea what to buy for comfort purposes. Willing to go high end on the budget.
Make sure you know what shape all three seats need to be. In the USA at least, it should be either “round” or “elongated.” Otherwise you will be standing in the aisle at the store second guessing yourself.
If you have kids, look for a model with a smaller flip-down seat. It’s made life a lot easier for us in potty training our littles. The ones we have use a magnet to hold them against the lid, so the experience for adults is no different.
I can’t agree with this more. We changed all of our seats to this and they are great. They are also soft close.
Most stuff's been covered, but worth covering again:
Soft close changes lives.
Church has done right by me, plus I get to crack jokes about 'going to Church', which is a bonus that shouldn't be overlooked.
One thing, go for metal hardware - eg, hinges, bolts. Plastic is pure shit. Pure shit belongs in your toilet, not on it.
100% agreed on the plastic. I got a cheap soft-close seat, and the "bolts" and "nuts" are pure shit, and just fall off randomly.
Get a quality seat with quality fasteners and hinges and enjoy never having to think about them again.
Fun fact, this happened and I broke my FILs toilet seat. He said that in his 50 years working in construction, he's never seen someone break a toilet seat in half lol.
Just get the high quality ones, the ones I have if I don’t hold the seat for a few seconds after I lift it it starts to close on its own in the middle of my piss for some reason . Fine when I’m sober, tragic when I’m not.
That means the seat is mounted too far back, or the tank too far forward, not due to the seat itself.
The mounting holes in porcelain are oversized and allow for some adjustment. Try loosening the bolts on your seat and I bet you'll be surprised how far it will move. Pull it forward and tighten 'em up, then enjoy doing your business with both hands.
> Willing to go high end on the budget.
Then get bidet seats
Bought a high end toilet the other day, $1.6k. That shit opens up when you walk in the bathroom. It’s fucking magical.
Also, I’m not even wealthy. It’s literally the most expensive thing in my house.
What is it? The highest end toto goes on sale for less than 1k
When we moved into our new old house, the toilet lids (switch to soft close) and light bulbs (switch to LED) were the first things we did. My kids were used to soft close and they slammed those suckers right and left.
Get a wood one and not the plastic ones. If you're any bit on the chonky side it will pinch your ass between the seat and the toilet on the edge...im fat. I know this is a fact...
My husband wants a bidet toilet seat for Christmas. What’s the best one out there? Price wise I am willing to spend a decent amount for the best model.
Toto is the best. I have two one top of the line the other middle grade. Both are fabulous.
This Toilet Bidet Attachment from PHILTRE has been my favorite. The article I linked, compares it to Brondell, and it has all the same bells and whistles for a better price. Check the reviews out and you can see its a good choice. We have Brondell in one bathroom and got the Philtre in the other and I def like it more. I'll be getting the it for our third bathroom soon enough.
BioBidet wont last past 2 years warranty mark. Even under warranty they send you DYI parts instead of real warranty.
I am currently replacing my biobidet and it made it a little over 4 years. That said, I am going to TOTO this time.
I'm here researching so I can replace my 3 year old BioBidet. I've been messing with it for months trying to get it back to normal function, and I'm done with it.
Agreed , I went for Kohler and while is a very nice bidet , the light in my bathroom start flickering when I use the was function. I hate that...
I imagine no one wants to work on a poop particle covered seat.
I just threw my BB-2000 in the trash after the 3 year mark. It developed a wretched stink in the back compartment where are the electronics are despite diligent cleaning. Then the seat sensor stopped working and the water occasionally wouldn't get warm despite the temp being turned up. Fully featured piece of junk.
BioBidet, Brondell, and Toto are the three you want to look at. My wife wanted a bidet for her birthday and thanks to my adhd I did more research on them then I'd care to admit. Pretty much all of the threads on BuyItForLife suggested this Brondell bidet, so that's what I went with. Wife loves it and I even started using it after promising her that I never would lol
Edit: Spelling
Brondell is legit. I think I enjoy using mine a little too much lol
Hello. We recently replaced our old toilet seat (Kohler; seat that came with the toilet - K4436) because it had a crack in it. The new one is "American Standard - Moments #1694169". I'm not sure if it's just placebo effect of not being used to it but it feels a lot less comfortable.
Sometimes I'm on the toilet for 30+ minutes if I get really into the book I'm reading. But on this one I can start to feel uncomfortable after 5-10. For some reason it feels "harder" or perhaps it's shaped strangely, I'm not sure. This is the first time we've ever replaced a toilet seat, so had no idea they could be so different.
I'm not exaggerating when I say I'd be happy paying $500 for a toilet seat if I can get one that's as comfortable as a regular chair, where I don't feel the need to constantly shift around because my butt/legs are getting sore.
Don't care about any fancy stuff like buttons and lights and bidets, just want something really, really comfortable to sit on. Also don't want to get an entirely new toilet, because the one we have is great, just want a new seat.
So, what is the "Ferrari of toilet seats"? Is there any such thing? Or are they all basically the same and it just takes awhile to get used to a new one?
Those padded ones back in the 90s were pretty awesome.
My parents still use them! Drives me crazy, but they love them
Why...why can't you just keep reading the book off the toilet?
I can't remember where I read it, but sitting on the toilet for long periods is really bad for you and can lead to hemorrhoids. Just finish your business and get out. Or put a chair in the bathroom if you like hanging out there.
Shitting in my desk chair is causing real problems.
And that subtle peeling-tape sound when you stood up was always nice too.
Why don't you just sit on the toilet in reverse so you can have a nice little desk space for your book?
When I was a kid I thought it was a shelf for my chocolate milk and face backwards.
Oh the AC Slater
Please listen to this!
You will regret sitting on a toilet for 30 minutes.
It's not healthy at all to sit on toilet seats for an extended time
How is it different from sitting in a chair for an extended time? Aside from not wearing underwear.
Is it possible to have a cushioned toilet seat that isn’t gross and cracks after a couple of years? Also ours weirdly have turned blue on the seat and we don’t use blue cleaner in the toilet
The cushioned ones do crack after awhile. The plastic gets brittle eventually. I think you should just plan on replacing it regularly.
have you tried a bidet?
I have a bidet attachment but I just mean a comfy seat in general
You can get gel seats that are better than the padded ones
Buttbuddy.com
I’ve been looking on Amazon and I found this (https://amzn.eu/d/0aIqIbBP) but I don’t know if it’s the best one or not
It seems like you're on the right track with the one you found, but in my experience, there's another bidet toilet seat on the market that really stands out because of its unique features and performance. What I especially appreciate about this bidet toilet seat is its adjustable water pressure and temperature settings, but it also has a heated seat which, IMO, is a game changer during those chilly, late-night bathroom trips. The installation was a breeze too, even for someone like me who isn't exactly handy. It might be on the higher end of the price range, but it's totally worth it for the comfort and cleanliness it provides. Definitely worth considering if you haven't made a final decision yet.
That link takes me to Amazon UK. Make sure that what you buy matches your electricity. Amazon will send the same product all over the world and has no idea that electric needs are different. That said, TOTO units are great. I'd go with the TOTO S7A, as it has a remote, auto open (lid and seat) and looks sleeker. It's the best seat TOTO makes.
Toto on general is SOLID. I have a Cuckoo personally, which is still good; but I cannot fathom why anyone would pay 3x the cost for an American brand. My friend had a Tushy Ace Bidet, and it was horrible. Coway has good ones too, but it's a tad expensive.
Imo, stick with Toto. If I didn't get such a good deal on Cuckoo, I would've went Toto too (my Cuckoo is 4 years old, and no issues so far).
Toto makes a solid product and their customer service is top notch. They actually have a phone number where people who actually work on Washlets answer the phone.
Seriously, I don’t know how many times I’ve had to replace the toilet seat because it cracks down the middle on one side and becomes unusable. I just recently got a seat with metal hinges and bolts, because sometimes the plastic ones just decide to rip off too but the new one cracked as well. Has anybody had success retrofitting a lid to a prison style stainless steel toilet seat? That seems like the only thing that would hold up at this point, but they don’t seem to sell any with lids.
I have literally never had this happen to a toilet seat that wasn’t wooden...
I’m not passing judgement, I’m mostly responding to follow the thread.
I don’t know if plastic would hold up better, but maybe having that little extra flexibility does keep it from cracking if your not too heavy.
My parents had porcelain (or ceramic. Not quite sure how to translate it) toilet seats in our house for the last 20 years. One of them broke, but that’s because I slipped on the wet floor and hit the toilet seat
Edit: My dad is damn heavy too. Speaking 120kg+
Never had the toilet seat crack but ours is developing some really weird rough patches and I don't understand why. I've been thinking that wood would probably be the best choice but I haven't looked up prices.
Iirc, wood is more expensive, but I'd say worth it. They should have a little flex which should prevent cracking. OP, I'd probably find a cheaper one that you're comfortable with and just replace it as needed. I know its anti BFL, but maybe just having an extra one you know you like could reduce anxiety around it?
Your BIFL idea- a 50 pack of toilet seats. Never buy toilet seats again. I love it! Problem solved.
/r/technicallycorrect
Prison decor is definitely BIFL.
I suggest you try dieting.
This should not be downvoted.
Bashiti hardware have few options, just take a photo of the seat and measurements of the seat and it's screws and make sure that the new seat would aline with the seat hardware on the toilet
Another option is to see if there is a manufacturer name on the toilet seat and look up it's supplier
I don't seem to find any listings, on their website, regarding toilet seats. Can you please share a link?
Go visit or call them , they don't list everything they hav
Hello Dumyah.com
Checked. They don't have this type of stuff, maybe only disposable toilet seat covers
best toilet seat brands
Key Considerations for Choosing Toilet Seat Brands:
Material: Look for durable materials like plastic (polypropylene) or wood. Plastic seats are lightweight and easy to clean, while wooden seats offer a more classic look and feel.
Comfort: Consider the shape and design. Elongated seats tend to be more comfortable than round ones. Some brands offer padded or contoured options for added comfort.
Hinge Quality: Check for sturdy hinges that can withstand regular use. Slow-close hinges are a great feature to prevent slamming.
Easy Installation: Look for seats that come with easy-to-follow installation instructions and all necessary hardware.
Cleaning Ease: Seats with a quick-release feature allow for easy removal and cleaning, which is a significant advantage for maintenance.
Warranty: A good warranty can indicate the manufacturer's confidence in their product. Look for brands that offer at least a one-year warranty.
Recommended Brands:
