Disappointed that Scorpion never came to the failed Multiversus fighting game, I spent some time imagining an "assassin" moveset for him in another timeline where the game did better and included him. All his moves were taken from various games from the MK series.

What Redditors are Saying

Best Training Routines for Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 1

TL;DR

  • Watch top players like MKJavier and Mike Trollinski for advanced techniques.
  • Use practice mode extensively to learn combos and frame data.
  • Experiment with Scorpion's special moves and mix-ups.

Learning from Top Players

One of the best ways to improve your Scorpion gameplay is by watching top players. MKJavier is highly recommended as one of the best Scorpion players, frequently showcasing his skills in tournaments like R1ps Arena [2:1]. Additionally, Mike Trollinski is another pro player whose gameplay can provide insights into effective strategies and techniques [2:2].

Practice Mode Utilization

Spending time in practice mode, often referred to as "the lab," is crucial for mastering Scorpion. This involves practicing his moves and combos repeatedly until they become second nature [4:1]. It's also beneficial to work on frame data to understand which moves are safe and which are punishable [5:2]. Setting up scenarios where you practice against CPU opponents using moves you struggle to counter can help refine your defensive skills [4:3].

Exploring Combos and Mix-Ups

Scorpion's strength lies in his versatile move set, including teleport cancels and mix-ups. Practicing combos that incorporate these elements can make your gameplay more unpredictable and difficult for opponents to counter [5:5]. For example, using teleport cancel into a throw or down 3 into down back 2 can be effective against opponents who mash buttons [2:3][2:4].

Understanding Variations

Experimenting with different variations of Scorpion can also enhance your playstyle. The "Reborn" variation, although considered underrated, offers unique opportunities through hellport fake-outs, which can lead to significant damage if executed correctly [5:5][5:8]. Trying out various variations will allow you to find the one that best suits your playstyle and maximizes Scorpion's potential.

Community Feedback and Resources

Engaging with the community through forums and guides can provide additional tips and tricks. Watching video guides and reading detailed breakdowns can offer new perspectives on how to utilize Scorpion effectively in matches [5:2]. Community feedback can also highlight common pitfalls and areas for improvement, helping you become a more well-rounded player.

Any Scorpion mains on PS4 want to run Some practice games? I feel like I just cannot get a handle on playing against him. They will whiff combos and his recovery seems faster than my startup. I feel like I never “get a turn” when I’m against him. Thanks in advance or any tips!

Watch any footage you can find of MKJavier. He is arguably the best Scorpion player in the world right now. He plays regularly in R1ps Arena.

Multiversus didn't fail, Zaslav decided to cancel it because there wasn't much profit. Like Gotham Knights & Suicide Squad.

Sure. But what do you think about this moveset? I did enough homework to understand all the debuffs and mechanics of MultiVersus to come up with a good way to implement Scorpion, if there was, like I said, another timeline where this game was successful, since you all talk about there being lots of timelines here.

I’m sorry I was being a jerk tbh. Just frustrated after playing for an hour or two last night out of about 20 kasual matches I fought like 15 scorpions. And if it’s not scorpion it’s noob or frost. I don’t want the game to get stale bc everyone plays the same few characters.

The lab, spending hours in the lab practicing frame data for traps or trying new strings with specials, working on characters you don't do well against have the CPU copy certain moves you have a hard time punishing and find a way around it.

I feel like the next stage for me is learning frame traps and such. But how do I do this if you can’t set the AI to jab etc on block?

Any tips for practicing this?

You could try setting them to throw since that's 10 frames not as fast a jab but close

Hey man, really appreciate the vid and your breakdown and explanations. Didn't realize I'm actually already subbed to you and appreciate the MK kontent!

Definitely gonna dive into the vid after work and work on my Scorpion.

For the vid, my only feedback is that the music was a little too distracting from what you were saying and it's all a little fast paced (I'm also probably just slow lol). But, thanks!

For a general question, though, for all Kharacters, is anything below minus 6 considered safe? And anything more than -6 is unsafe?

Cheers.

It’s worth a go. You usually have to do it for a few days for the muscle memory to kick in. Start using your favorite combos. And try to string for large combos.

If you watch YouTube, a few people show off the largest possible combo strings for max damage. Even learning half of one can be fun.

1 upvotes on reddit
DaboiiJayy · OP · 3 months ago

Yeah... I'm realising now Cause I went into a game on very hard thinking that I'd dominate now that I know how to do combos. But ended panic spamming normal attacks and maybe only successfully landing a few of them. But this just made me like the game more, I've never played a fighting game that plays like this (I'm used to it usually being like one string in a single attack button with variation depending on the direction you hold) and this made me want to Pick up more characters and master them, definitely going to be a majority of my mk playtime

When you will choose your character go to workout zone in mk 11 I don’t know how is it called in English it’s going next to workout and behind workout fatalities you need to finish training in this department and choose your character there will be combos for your character and then you can choose in there option what do you want to workout, like: combos, block and other things

If you haven't completed the practice, I recommend finishing it, then try a character you like. You can watch YouTube videos of matches to see which one you'd like best or just try them; whatever you choose, for the most part tier lists don't really matter in normal online play. You can then go into towers of time and classic towers, test it, then go to practice and do some combos there. There are guides online that can help you. One last tip, don't let online play frustrate you if you lose at first, it's ok everyone loses, what matters most is just going into practice mode and learning how to punish/block things that beat you.

I don't understand why anyone is still using Searing Rage.

I'd personally recommend the teleport cancel and the fireball projectile. If you learn to cancel the teleport *before* Scorpion leaves the screen, you can attack by dialing in any string into teleport, and either amp on hit for a full combo, or cancel early on block to retreat to 3/4 screen (or occasionally leave the screen and cancel once beside the opponent for pressure).

This means that any string you do can be completely safe, thus fixing one of Scorpion's major weaknesses.

The fireballs then allow you to poke at opponents who are trying to neutral duck you, thus fixing Scorpion's other major weakness.

3 upvotes on reddit
my_kombat_account · 4 years ago

To be clear, in my opinion this is probably the strongest Scorpion loadout, but getting the cancels right is a bit tricky at first. If you're just getting started Searing Rage honestly isn't a bad option, but i might still switch out the combo strings or Death Spin for the fireballs.

As funny as some of these comments are, it is somewhat concerning that there isnt any help for someone legitimately asking.

OP. Do you know universal button notation? If not, what system are you playing on?

Do you have any prior fighting game experience? Do you play online? Do you just fight the AI?

For a beginner I would recommend the Searing Rage preset.

3 upvotes on reddit
CartoonistEnough3029 · OP · 4 years ago

I’m playing on Xbox, and I don’t consider myself a beginner. I consider myself intermediate and I’ve played online plenty of times (though I tend to avoid it because I always get matched with either spammers or OP people and I can never tell how someone really plays because the win/loss ratio is misleading)

Also yea, like I personally hate scorpion and sub zero, yet I’ve played around with them and am looking to main them. And it’s not like I’d be adding to the KL scorpions because I don’t even play KL.

1 upvotes on reddit
X
xShenlesx · 4 years ago

You didn't mention if you know universal notation so here goes.

Forward + A: Scorpions best button bar none. 13frame mid, -2 on block. Forward + A, B is safe on block and has a combo starting Krushing Blow if it kounter hits.

Forward + B, Y: Scorpions low starter. It's slow but goes low then overhead and can be cancelled into specials for a full combo.

Down Back + A: teleport. can be done in the air. amplify to launch for a full combo. better scaling than spear but juggles whereas spear restands.

Back Forward + X: spear. amplify for a restanding combo extender.

Basic (not optimal) 2 bar combo

Forward + A, Y xx Down Back + A amplify, Standing B xx Back Forward X amplify, Y, X, Y+B

you can also do Forward A, Y xx Back Forward X at the end to side switch.

For optimal damage youd do Forward + A, Forward + A, Y xx Back Forward X after the teleport but the timing is a little strict.

Third variation looks really cool and has a mix on his forward 4,2 and his back 1,4. Typical combo rules apply

Thank you for simply helping a guy out and not butting your personal feelings into it. What would the moves for this variation?

1 upvotes on reddit
Sir_ruhtarded · 4 years ago

It would be his katana stance which costs two slots and I would recommend switching out the jumping katana move for his demon dash so you can punish anything that puts people at minus seven. I don't know the names of his katana moves so bear with me lol

Press either Up, Left or Right during the selection screen and you can cancel that into literally any other character select.

Best training routines for Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 1

Key Considerations for Training Routines with Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 1:

  1. Mastering Special Moves:

    • Spear (Get over here!): Practice the timing and distance to effectively pull opponents towards you.
    • Teleport Punch: Use this to surprise opponents and counter their attacks. Timing is crucial.
    • Fire Breath: Great for zoning and punishing opponents at mid-range.
  2. Combos:

    • Focus on learning Scorpion's basic combos. A common one is:
      • (Close Range) 1, 1, Spear or (Mid Range) 1, 2, Fire Breath.
    • Practice chaining moves together to create fluid combos that can catch opponents off guard.
  3. Movement and Spacing:

    • Work on your movement to maintain optimal distance. Scorpion excels at mid-range combat.
    • Use dashes and jumps to close gaps or evade attacks, then counter with your special moves.
  4. Defensive Techniques:

    • Practice blocking and countering. Scorpion has good defensive options, so learn to anticipate your opponent's moves.
    • Use the teleport to escape pressure and reposition yourself.
  5. Practice Modes:

    • Utilize training mode to practice your combos and special moves against a stationary opponent.
    • Experiment with different scenarios to understand how Scorpion's moves work against various characters.

Recommendation:

  • Spend time in training mode focusing on one aspect at a time (special moves, combos, movement) before combining them. This will help you build muscle memory and improve your overall gameplay with Scorpion. Additionally, watching high-level gameplay or tutorials can provide insights into advanced techniques and strategies.
