TL;DR
Height and Accessibility
When choosing a water fountain for dogs, especially larger breeds, it's important to consider the height of the fountain. Some fountains are designed specifically for dogs and have a lower profile to make drinking easier [2:1]. Adjustable height options can be beneficial for accommodating different sizes of dogs and ensuring comfort while drinking.
Design and Functionality
The design and functionality of the fountain are crucial. Some fountains feature separate buttons or pedals for dog use, allowing simultaneous operation for both humans and pets [2:5]. This design can be convenient in public spaces where both pet owners and their dogs need access to water. Additionally, fountains that mimic natural water flow might encourage dogs to drink more, as they often prefer moving water over stagnant water
[5:1].
Filtration System
A good filtration system is essential for maintaining clean and fresh water. Many pet water fountains come equipped with filters that remove impurities and keep the water tasting fresh. This can be particularly appealing to pets who might otherwise seek out "forbidden" sources like plant pot water [5:3].
Quiet Operation
Noise levels can be a concern with some water fountains, as loud motors may deter pets from using them. Choosing a model with quiet operation can ensure that your dog feels comfortable approaching and using the fountain without being startled by noise [5:1].
Cleaning and Maintenance
Ease of cleaning is another important factor. Fountains should be easy to disassemble and clean to prevent the buildup of bacteria and ensure the water remains safe for your pet. Regular maintenance will also prolong the life of the fountain and keep it functioning optimally [5:1].
By considering these factors, you can select a water fountain that suits your dog's needs and preferences, encouraging them to stay hydrated and healthy.
So, a friends water bill was $700 last month. We hear water running in a closet wall (meter into the house). The house is on a concrete slab. There are no running or leaking taps or toilets.
The sound is coming from an entery closet about 15ft from the exterior shutoff/meter, and seems to be between there but the line is under the concrete pad, it Tees up the wall to a bathroom on the second story.
The sound of water flowing theough thw line is significantly loud.
We checked to make sure the toilet tanks wernt quietly over filling into the stand pipe
Other things we checked are;
Meter runs consistently
Hot water heter shut off doesnt stop the spund in the wall.
No water damage anywhere.
No standing water, moisture, of any kind around the exterior of the house.
We removed a lower portion of wall behind the baseboard, we see the cold water line and hot water line. Using a stethoscope and feeling for vibration of running water, it appears to be the cold water line.
We then opted to cut the concrete pad, reashed graven and found the pipe 1.5inch below the pad
All gravel under the pad is bone dry as well.
Ill add some pictures of the home we cut.
No idea where all this water could be going...
The area is Nashville, TN (specifically Laverne) area, we sit on limestone slab in the area, not sure if thats worth mentioning.
NEED HELP ASAP! Hopfully its so.ething super stupid thats being overlooked. Again it doesnt seem to be any of the toilets quietly over flowing.
Friend filled his pool twice and said water bill was o ly $200 total... So, 6ish pools worth of water are seemingly disappearing over a months time.
Or put red dye in the tank the check bowl in the morning
Could try that, shut the toilet inlet and see if we lose any from the tank too. Neither of us thought that. The sound of the flow is isolated downstairs not near any outlets though. Silent at faucets toilets, but loud leading out of the slab. So he pushed to cut
Hire a leak detection specialist. This will only get worse. Maybe call the water company and say you are trying to investigate why, and ask them to refer a specialist? Water companies don’t want wasted water either. Some even waive the increase if you are using pros to investigate and fix it timely.
Sounds good, ive suggested the friend call the water company, if for anything some advise or contact info to a specialist. I do small plumbing fixes but this is way outside my wheelhouse now, lol. Thanks for the advice!
Edit; advise to advice
This. It’s what I do everyday for work. A lot of plumbing companies advertise leak detection but don’t have any of the equipment or the niche experience. They either sub out a detection company or probe and listen around for a bit and then recommend replacing the line. Finding the location of the leak in the slab, parking lot, yard, whatever saves a lot of headache and heartache for the homeowner and plumber repairing.
I had something similar MANY years ago, and the water company sent someone round armed with along metal bar. He placed one end on the bone behind his ear and the other he put in the ground and moved it around until he found the leak. He got it spot on. The leak was about 3ft below our entrance path.
Good to know!
Ah. The friend. 😂
I was just curious why you’d go digging your floor up in a random spot with no idea where the water is coming from.
I still bet it’s a toilet
You’d be amazing at how much water will run through a leaky flapper valve.
Lol the neighbor suggested that someone maybe stealing water. But a walk around while the noise is going suggests thats not the case lol. Would be funny to see someone outside just watering their garded 24 7
I know, that’s a wild leap in my book
I don’t say this to take away from your find, but congrats on your town finally catching up to most other places lol, I’ve seen these all across America
I know water fountains are pretty common, but this is the 1st I’ve come across that was 4” tall for dogs. But maybe I haven’t been looking for them.
I have usually seen ones that have water from the human drinking part flow into a bowl for the dog. I just recently saw one of these and was delighted there was a button just for the doggie fountain.
Understandable since they’d be below your line of sight 😂
Yeah those dog fountains have been pretty common where I’ve lived over the last decade or so, but I’ve also had dogs for most of that time so I have been looking for em
Been seeing these for decades all over the country lol
The one by my old house had a foot pedal so you could operate the dog one and the human height one at the same time.
I've never seen these and lived one 2 different states my whole life of 29 years
That’s so interesting I thought these were pretty widespread
There’s been a dog water fountain in my town for about 15 years.
Water fountain or bidet
We have these everywhere where I live.
Yeah but how do they hold the button?
I lived in west flower mound when we were running out of well water waiting for the city to bring a pipe with ponded water from east texas. Moved to San Antonio and the Edwards is almost as low as it’s ever been. Fracking and AI installations are killing this state.
I mean...duh? Was the research just looking at reservoir levels and going "Oh dang, that's not good."?
I swear to god for mental health this seems to be the worst time to be scientifically minded/educated or working in a life sciences/environmental field. Yes lots of news has been bad for years, but knowing conspiratorial batishit insane people are in charge while absorbing it all is just…fuck
Best we can do is keep opening huge data centers and give them millions of gallons of water per day for basically free.
Int/fth is the one of the best builds in the game..... If you have 80 int and fth.
Also heed my warning, dont try to do this at new game plus, I committed to a 80 dex 80 fth build with kinda high strength for a great shield along with pretty high mind and endurance for specific weapons and oh my god the amount of albanorics I have killed to make this build work. 3000 albanorics have died and I STILL NEED 40 MORE LEVELS END MY SUFFERING
Why don't you just play the game instead of killing 3000 Albinaurics?
Yes, it's really best in long game, double scaling catalysts out scale everything even at 60/60(at least what I tried)
Still more going for it than Int/Arc with its whopping TWO spells.
Two mid spells, two mid catalysts and not a single proper weapon without infusions.
Int/faith fell off hard from Ds3 to Elden Ring so pure faith could get the glow up that it deserved.
Yeah, pyromancy was THE int/fth build, a shame fromsoft decided to cut it.
I wish pyromancy came back as its own spell type again😔
Yeah I was stoked to do an INT/FTH playthrough on release only to find out they had one weapon and the spells were almost all crap. They changed that a bit, not they have three weapons (questionably, more like two) and a couple more mediocre spells. Well at least FTH/ARC is a thing.
Staff Of The Great Beyond and cast anything you want.
Only your spell slots can limit you.
Close enough, welcome back Black Witch's Staff from DS2.
Cat:🧐i drink only the best, purrier
Forbidden water always tastes better. 🥰
Rage baiting cat hehe
When I first got my dude his water fountain, he didn't like it. After about a week, I started noticing him using it about as much as his water bowl. Now it's been a month, and he only plays with the water in his bowl, I guess he wants to make it agitate like the water fountain. So I only put a bit in there because he makes a big mess. He drinks from the fountain exclusively at this point.

Hi all,
My dog has dermatitis around her mouth bad and we are speculating (her vet and I) that it is a reaction to the nickel in her stainless steel bowls and fountain. (We have already tried different foods with no avail and the stainless steel swap happening around the time this started). Finding ceramic bowls for food is easy but finding a new water fountain has proven challenging. Looking for recommendations if anyone has one.
I’d prefer ceramic over plastic. I don’t mind a smaller capacity but I’d rather not have to fill it every single day.
TIA!
Have you tried a ceramic water bowl instead of a fountain? I understand there are some pets that refuse to drink standing water, but it's the most obvious way to simplify this situation. We do this and just wash and refill the bowl every morning. This also cuts down the opportunity for bacteria and mold to develop in the water fountain, which can also be an allergen.
She is insanely picky after we switched to a fountain (my bad I know) but she won’t drink out of standing water bowls. When we go places, she will only drink from streams of water (like pouring a water bottle into a bowl but she only drinks what you are pouring if that makes sense).
They usually arent large because
There are some 70oz ones on Chewy.
Edit: how often are you washing the water bowl? This can cause issues too and wont change if you dont wash the ceramic bowl regularly.
Yeah. I figured as much. I mean a small one is fine. I clean her current one twice a week. It used to be once a week but now I just clean it when I need to refill it. She’s very picky about her water and if it is even slightly gross, she won’t touch it. She did this when we had standing water bowls too.
What size are you looking for?

Hi Everyone,
We have a 1 year old Giant and this will surprise you all but she loooooooves drinking her water! We don't love cleaning up drippy beard all over the floors as much though.
Any recommendations for water bowls that will keep her beard a bit drier? We just have a regular bowl for her now and we are open to suggestions.
Obligatory dog tax attached.
We tried a no-drip bowl (the “slopper-stopper” available on amazon). It did help but was a bit of a pain to fill and clean, so we just trained her with “muzzle” to stay and let us wipe her beard. We keep her bowl in the kitchen where drips are ok if we don’t get there in time.
This is essentially what we do now; bowl in kitchen, drip tray for excess spill and small towel nearby specifically for beard drying purposes.
We might try the bowl just to see if she likes it but deep down I think we knew what we were getting into with the beard 😅
We added a bath mat under our Elke's water bowl; it at least it sops up some of the overflow. We have two so there's always one down while the other is in the laundry. Gave up on the drip-free bowl. We also taught her the word "muzzle"; it's her least favorite command!
I let my two boys drink from the tub faucet its not as messy but their beards will always drip
Nothing really helps. I only let them drink in their crate as it helps contain the mess and easier to clean up 😂😂 plus it helps clean their beard as we feed raw
Fresh towel service next to the water bowl, or chase to wipe the beard. No great options, but the beard is worth it!
LOL, I was coming to write this! You NEED to have a towel nearby!!
This is our present approach 😂
There’s this, it’s just an example, there’s a lot of them and the water fountains somewhat works… not a total solution in my experience but they did help a little with the extra water
Curious if the PetSafe Outlast Pumpless WaterFountain is the perfect solution to keep your pet hydrated? In this video, I’ll show you how incredibly easy it is to set up, no bulky pumps, no tangled cords, and no complicated assembly! My dogs absolutely love the fresh, flowing water, and it’s quickly become a must-have in our home. From promoting better drinking habits to providing clean, filtered water every day, it’s all covered. Trust me, it makes providing fresh hydration for your furry friend so much easier!
I actually picked up the PetSafe Outlast Pumpless Water Fountain recently and my pup LOOOVES it 🐶💧 No annoying pump noise and super easy to clean too. And I’ve noticed he’s drinking way more water now. This is like one of those small upgrades that makes a big difference for both me and my dog.
I’ve got a golden retriever who’s super picky with his water, and I was surprised how much he actually likes this fountain. He’ll go back to it a few times a day instead of waiting until he’s really thirsty. Cleaning it is way easier than the pump ones I tried before, which is a win for me. It's just nice not having to nag him to drink more, especially in the summer.
We bought this pet water fountain a while back and it works great, but needs more deep cleaning than we could commit to (easier for me to clean 1 bowl daily than an entire contraption).
Free to a good home with pets that might enjoy a gently bubbling fountain drinking experience. Warning, it makes fart noises when it's running low lol.
Hi, what kind of filters does this use? I'm wondering how pricey/easy to find they are
Heya! Someone already claimed it and picked it up last night (I just updated the flair now bc I forgot). Thank you for your interest!
best water fountain for dogs
Key Considerations for Choosing a Dog Water Fountain:
Capacity: Consider the size of your dog and how often they drink. Larger dogs may require a fountain with a higher capacity (2-3 liters) to ensure they have enough water throughout the day.
Material: Look for durable materials like stainless steel or BPA-free plastic. Stainless steel is often easier to clean and more hygienic.
Filtration System: A good filtration system helps keep the water clean and fresh. Look for fountains with replaceable filters to remove impurities and odors.
Noise Level: Some fountains can be noisy due to the pump. Check reviews for noise levels, especially if your dog is skittish or if the fountain will be placed in a quiet area.
Ease of Cleaning: Choose a fountain that is easy to disassemble and clean. Some models are dishwasher safe, which can save you time.
Design and Flow: Consider the design and water flow options. Some dogs prefer a gentle stream, while others may like a bubbling effect.
Recommendations:
PetSafe Drinkwell Platinum: This fountain has a 168-ounce capacity, a built-in filter, and adjustable water flow. It's made of BPA-free plastic and is easy to clean.
Veken Pet Fountain: A budget-friendly option with a 2.5-liter capacity, multiple filtration layers, and a quiet pump. It features a flower design that encourages drinking.
Catit Flower Fountain: Although marketed for cats, this fountain works well for small to medium dogs. It has a unique flower design and offers three different water flow settings.
Choosing the right water fountain can encourage your dog to drink more water, promoting better hydration and overall health.
