What Redditors are Saying

Best Weapon for Barret in Final Fantasy VII Remake

TL;DR

  • Big Bertha is frequently recommended for its balance and effectiveness [3:3], [4:6].
  • EKG Cannon is another popular choice, offering versatility [5:1], [5:2].

Big Bertha

Big Bertha is often cited as a top weapon choice for Barret due to its balanced stats and effectiveness in combat. It provides solid damage output and has been mentioned as a favorite by multiple players [3:3], [4:6]. Its versatility makes it suitable for various situations, whether you need crowd control or focused damage.

EKG Cannon

The EKG Cannon is another weapon that players have found effective for Barret. It offers versatility and can be tailored to fit different playstyles. Some players use it interchangeably with Big Bertha depending on the situation [5:1], [5:2]. The ability to switch between weapons based on combat needs is a strategy employed by many players.

Weapon Viability

In the remake, all weapons are designed to remain viable throughout the game, allowing players to choose based on their preferred playstyle rather than strictly on stats [5:4]. This design encourages experimentation and personal preference when selecting weapons for Barret and other characters.

Resetting Weapon Grids

Resetting weapon grids is a feature that allows players to optimize their weapons' stats by reallocating SP (Skill Points) to focus on desired attributes. This can be useful if you want to tailor a weapon's capabilities to better suit your strategy or correct any previous allocation mistakes [5:5].

ORIGINAL POST

Game is just so much comfortable with him:

-He can tank for the whole party and keep them alive with Lifesaver as long as his health is up. Also has Steelskin reduce the damage he takes and Iron defense to protect allies

-Bonus Round and Focused Shot makes it so easy to stagger enemies with some extra damage to help out

  • Great damage options between Max Fury, Point Blank, and Lifeblood Cannon

  • Has decent crowd control with a rotation of Smackdown, Max Fury, Bonus Round and his Friendly-Fire synergy skill

-Turbulent Spirit makes an already fast ATB-builder even better at it

He’s got it all as a ranged unit that can carry in any situation.

Once I got Genji-Gloves at the end-game, I just put it on him and then deleted enemies with a 3-bar Lifeblood Cannon.

Can’t wait to see what they add to his kit in Part 3!

Yeah. The tank ability alone makes him insane. Combine with chakra and prayer and you can forget about healing with mana.

I always give Prayer to Barrett when he's in my party and I rarely need to use cure. He's my back up healer/back up support.

I kinda played this game like a mmo. Cloud is dps, barret is tank, aerith is healer. I used spell blade to get cloud and aerith atb up. And make aerith sit on the 2 atb, until either barret or cloud needed a full heal. Played this way with some adjustments for super bosses like gilgamesh.

I used Tifa as DPS, Aerith as healer and Cloud as support (sometimes tank, sometimes help heal, sometimes dps)

In the OG, Barret was only there when he had to be.

With Remake and Rebirth, I always wanted him in my party, but I loved just about everybody so I actually shuffled them around (and I enjoyed how they would force you to use certain party members because they split up the party)

If only I loved Red XIII, we would always be Avalanche Time

Catastrophe was a pretty solid LB, I hardly think Barrett was throwing. Magic stats were pretty ass tho if IIRC

It took me a while to know that the machanic was there. Once I seen that it does big damage and brings up atb by alot. I also seen that using this give both cloud and aerith super armor and somehow immune to certain status effects. The only downside to spell blade and power break is its super slow.

I really like that you can switch to him, queue up a Max Fury or an Overcharge, and then switch back to Cloud to keep attacking while the animations play out.

Or start as Barrett hit Overcharge, switch out and do basically the same as thing!

I need to try using him. I did everything up to hard mode with Cloud, Tifa, Aerith. Gunna rotate the others in for the hard mode playthrough.

Being able to keep the buster sword the entire game was an incredible idea, I loved it.

What is potentially the best weapon for each character stay and grid wise?

Just hit wall market and got hard edge, but seen people say buster sword is more balanced, so I'm kind of not sure myself

And another question, what is the purpose of resetting your weapon grid, just so you can pick the better stats before the weak ones etc

Every weapon was made viable in this Remake. In the OG, better gear would eventually outclass and you'd sell it off. Here, it depends on how you play each character. Cloud can go more in the Magic stat play route but will suffer physical damage output. If he's not set as your active character you have him focus on attack or defense. I think the Mythril Saber is the magic sword for him.
Tifa could as well but she really kicks booty as a fast DPS and Stagger master. I finishd with her wearing the Iron Knuckles and didn't have all of her weapon abilities. Freedom to mess around and play with them here is good but in the OG characters were best in their roles.

Also resetting the weapons is in case you don’t get the weapons how you want by end game. It’s kinda hard to max out the weapons.

For the max/min people, what is the current consensus on the best weapon for each character?

For me it is:

Cloud - Buster Sword

Barrett - Big Bertha

Tifa - Purple Pain

Aerith - Not sure about this one as all her weapons are super close in value and strength

It depends if on hard mode the stats don't really matter when your charector has 300 ish attack after leveling so 10 attack only adds 3% damage which is outclassed by some 5% damage or defenatly 10% crit etc. I wish the weapons displayed all stats to make it easier. Oh and on hard more reprive is very valuable and mp regen and 6500 min hp to not die.

For me Barrett is big bertha or light machine gun I can't choose between the two.

Cloud is iron sword reprive mp regen good hp some other things. That Twin Saber no hp so unusable. Buster it has stats and not much else. Hardege like I said later stats don't do much the nail bat does way more so hardedge has stats about it.

Tifa purple rain great hp other goodies some crit use prayer on her and other no need mana stuff she don't need spells. Feather gloves no hp so you die.

Airith is the easy one silver staff you can't even run out of mana if you try so you can completely skip any mana up and get everything else plus it has hp every thing you need for hard mode this is the best weapon for a char in the game hands down. Not saying Arith is the best but I wish the other heroes had a perfect fit weapon.

If playing easy mode hardege, metal knuckles etc your charectors won't get high level and you can't die no need to heal etc just kill them faster. But still level 30 to 50 stats matter less and less and you won't be killing them faster.

Why is everyone so stuck on the Hardedge? Sure it has the best attack, but all around the Iron Blade has the edge imho. Balanced attack and magic, great health and defence boosts, also Iron Blade has 2 key abilities end game that give it the advantage. Reprieve and Trade Off. Especially on hard mode. Gaining MP is HUGE on longer levels, and It’s pretty cool when your entire party survives megaflare with one HP thanks to reprieve. Long story short I choose: Iron Blade for Cloud Purple Pain for Tifa great crit boosts, speed and reprieve. Arcane Scepter for Aerith for the HUGE mp boost and Reprieve Big Bertha for barrett. Huge health boosts and abilities, no reprieve but with HP materia he has max hp so he can damn near survive anything.

Also end game the OP party doesn’t include Barrett anyways so no reprieve doesn’t matter much.

2 upvotes on reddit
Living_Bill2473 · 3 years ago

Ty someone that gets it dang stats don't do crap on hard mode with lvl 50 charectors that naturally have 350 attack or whatever oh one weapon has 30 more attack that's like a 8% increase but people chose that over the one with 2k hp reprive 10% crit 5% boosted attack damage and so on.

1 upvotes on reddit
PerceptionSea9851 · 3 years ago

I feel like even though purple pain cries a lot, the attack stat isn't high enough to do as much damage as you could with metal knuckles or feather gloves. I just switched to feather after using purple pain cor a while , with 2 luck up materia and I'm critting loads but with really high normal attack damage as well.

Red: spin to win

Barret: provoke + steel skin + max fury

Red - Stardust Ray is incredibly good, kind of like a black hole it stuns even some large enemies for a good amount of time, it affects everyone close to it and even gets damage bonus from Elemental materia. In Vengeance mode you can dodge around the battlefield really fast with Siphon Fang. Crescent Claw is a good burst damage and apparently you can queue it up twice, just like Chakra.

Cait Sith - I used mainly as an all-rounder support with Healing materia. Moogle Magic is pretty good, I ran Alexander on him for the whole game, creates a wall with his hit-box, sometimes it can be annoying too lol. Moogle Knuckle is good to increase stagger%, especially with ATB Assist materia if you do it twice in a row.

Yuffie - use the elemental weakness Ninjutsu ranged attacks to get ATB, once you have close to 2 go in for Supreme Art of War, then get back and use Banishment. Better with Spinning Wheel and Doppelganger active. Try to dodge the enemy with Brumal Form.

Barret - Overcharge into Bonus Round into Max Fury or buff up with Steelskin, Lifesaver and Turbulent Spirit. You can use United Refocus and Lifeblood Cannon too in a good stagger.

Yuffie can easily break the damage cap with banishment, just set your element, play normally and when you get a stagger pop the banishment. It should be at level 3 if you've been using yuffie

Cait’s moogle punch can increase stagger % a TON. Really good.

Barret: depends on what’s going on, but bonus round is excellent for building stagger. Then you can use smackdown on a staggered enemy. Prayer when necessary.

Yuffie just kite’s around doing elemental jujitsu/doppelgänger and prayer when necessary.

Red is a stardust ray bot on staggered enemies

Hard Edge or Mithril Saber, depending on other party members. Hard to beat 50% mana regeneration boost or the triple slash from Hard Edge.

Tifa: Feathered Gloves -- Highest speed and fairly balanced otherwise

Aerith: Silver Staff or whatever it is called -- Reduced casting cost for more mana stability.

Barret: Pincers -- So bloody good! I even love it for a lot of the air battles.

I'm no expert, but I finish the game on hard (without any internet help) and I choose my favorites weapons

Tifa:

-Metal Knuckles when Aeris is on the party

-Leather Gloves with no Aeris

Barret:

-Big Bertha (I didnt even try to melee mode Barret, and the stats on Big Bertha are far superior than the others ranged ones)

Cloud:

-Mytrhril Saber (for the hellhouse fight)

-Twin Stinger (when Tifa is on the party, I usually focus on Tifa, so with the Twin Stinger Cloud can offer some magical support)

-Hardedge (when Aeris is on the party but Tifa is not - Cloud become my melee DPS and Aeris alone can keep him alive)

-Buster Sword (when Cloud is alone or with Barret - The Buster Sword is well balanced and can deliver some good physical damage and cast when needed)

Aeris:

-Silver Staff is my favorite, but I did a lot of testing and got no real conclusions, Guard Stick and Mytrhil Rod works very well

I love that they made the weapons upgradable in this game, in the original I loved the look of the Buster Sword but as soon as you get another stronger weapon it becomes virtually useless...can’t even sell the thing which was always a strategy of mine, buy the strongest weapon(s) available then flip the old weapons for some Gil back

Everything gets 6 slots at 250 so thus endeth using them for that. Everyone gets 2 hp ups. Someone drags around x2 Magic up so it can be max'd for Aerith. I aimed for 8 though, final boss involves everyone, + p2 thinking. Barrett getting the crappiest of them. I max'd like x6 of everything green except wind and revive, and everything purple except mp up which I'm just thinking p2 on having 8 of them and warding/hp absorb. I think I got like 10 lightning and fires max'd just due to elemental wpn swap outs.

Cloud-Hard Edge. It's got the highest atk, hp gain to keep you topped of while roaming for killing. All I ever wanted.

Tifa- Metal Knuckles. Highest attack and she's my luck materia user until I get the limit break accessory when I flesh her slot demanding ATB focus with a little nice to have for her too things like revive/haste. I just wanted her crits/staggered true strikes to be nasty. As well as starstrikes for annoying people like rollerbladers.

Aerith-Mythril Rod. Magic magic magic. That's her deal. Mp is less of an issue due to soul drain on staggered + with magic focused on, she can arcane ward + ara for near null, or arcane ward + level 1 for a GAIN. Still hit for 5000-6000 a pop. Magic magic magic! I try to have Cloud and Tifa do most support stuff like haste/barrier, since they suck at magic with their weapons. Aeriths support comes from arise/prayer really.

Barret- anything not melee is fine. In some situations sure, but I wouldn't trade in a speedy rangeless overcharge for a slow overrun for ground only. He's not so masterful one way or the other, more balanced,he'll survive and do a little of both. You want reprieve. Ekg cannon is what I use. He'll get plenty of hp/def from anything for any steel skin/lifeward stuff.

If this helps anyone. I know it's pretty high entry, but I feel like I could have done this with Wind Seph too. I may try that and post my findings. Ehat I had trouble in was the sigil phase. That's why I used Tifa wirh the bahamut gloves.

What I had to do, was use Barret's ultimate weapon to tank his 2 Mega Flares (the very first one and depleting the gage twice before the second, so I didn't need to buff Mdef too high.

I also feel like I could do this with Bahamut Yuffie. Her being able to help buff Mdef allowed Aerith to heal more. I may try that as well, but I was still struggling with the sigil phase. I know people can do it, but my motor skills aren't fast enough.

A lot of limited weapons here, but some of you may have suitable replacements.

[REMAKE SPOILERS] The best *looking* weapon for each character?

Posted by Shadaloo- · in r/FFVIIRemake · 5 years ago

I really dig how each weapon visually changes when you equip a new one, but which one is the *snazziest* in your opinion? Even the less noticeable weapons like Tifa's gloves got some neat designs.

For me:
Cloud = Buster Sword. I tip my hat to Hardedge's comparable *chonk* however.
Barrett = EKG Cannon. Gives me Advent Children vibes, and I dig it.
Tifa = Sonic Strikers. Feathered Gloves and Mythril Claws are close seconds.
Aerith = Mythril Rod. Tho I respect Bladed Staff letting Aerith *shank people*.

Agreed on EKG Cannon, but otherwise:

  • Cloud = Twin Stinger. It's so elegant and... y'know... stabby.
  • Tifa = Mythril Claws. The rest of her weapons don't look quite as lethal.
  • Aerith = probably a tie between Silver Staff and Mythril Rod. Staff is very sophisticated and sleek; Rod is more whimsical.

Heads is better because it's much more brutal. They are meant to rip, not puncture.

best weapon for barret in final fantasy vii remake

Key Considerations for Barret's Weapons in Final Fantasy VII Remake:

  1. Weapon Types: Barret primarily uses guns, which can be upgraded for enhanced stats and abilities. Each weapon has unique traits that can complement different playstyles.

  2. Stats and Abilities: Look for weapons that boost Barret's strengths, such as Attack Power, Magic Attack, and Materia slots. Some weapons may also provide unique abilities that can be beneficial in combat.

  3. Playstyle: Consider how you prefer to play Barret. If you like to focus on ranged attacks, choose weapons that enhance his shooting capabilities. If you want to utilize magic, look for weapons with higher Magic Attack stats.

Recommended Weapons:

  1. The Wrecking Ball:

    • Stats: High Attack Power and decent Magic Attack.
    • Ability: "Fire in the Hole" - a powerful attack that can deal significant damage.
    • Why: This weapon is great for dealing heavy damage and has a good balance of physical and magical capabilities.
  2. The Steel Pincers:

    • Stats: Balanced stats with a focus on Magic Attack.
    • Ability: "Counterstance" - allows Barret to counterattack when blocking.
    • Why: This weapon is excellent for a more defensive playstyle, allowing you to absorb damage and retaliate effectively.
  3. The Big Bertha:

    • Stats: High Attack Power with multiple Materia slots.
    • Ability: "Overcharge" - increases damage output.
    • Why: Ideal for players who want to maximize damage and customize their Materia setup for various combat scenarios.

Takeaway: The best weapon for Barret depends on your preferred playstyle. If you want raw power, go for The Wrecking Ball. For a balanced approach, consider The Steel Pincers. If you want versatility with Materia, The Big Bertha is a solid choice. Always remember to upgrade your weapons to maximize their potential!
