TL;DR
Buster Sword
The Buster Sword is a balanced option with both physical and magic capabilities. It remains viable late into the game due to its well-rounded stats [1:3]. While it may not excel in any particular area compared to other weapons, it provides versatility for players who prefer a mix of physical and magical attacks
[5:7].
Hardedge
For players focusing on physical attacks, the Hardedge offers the highest physical attack stats among Cloud's weapons [3:5],
[3:6]. It's particularly effective against groups of enemies, allowing for quick ATB gauge filling and skill spamming
[3:3]. However, it lacks in magic capabilities, making it less suitable for magic-heavy strategies
[5:1].
Mythril Saber
The Mythril Saber is recommended for those who prioritize magic attacks. It boasts high magic attack stats and offers passive abilities like reduced MP costs for magic spells [5:1],
[5:8]. Despite concerns about MP management in hard mode, many players find that MP recovery through mako shards mitigates these issues
[5:11].
Twin Stinger
The Twin Stinger is another option for players who want to focus on magic. It allows for efficient magic use and has abilities that enhance magic damage [5:5]. While it may not have the raw physical power of the Hardedge, its ability to spam magic makes it a strong contender for boss fights
[5:4].
Playstyle Considerations
Ultimately, the best weapon for Cloud depends on your preferred playstyle and the challenges you face. If you enjoy a balanced approach, the Buster Sword is a reliable choice. For physical prowess, the Hardedge excels, while the Mythril Saber and Twin Stinger cater to magic-oriented strategies. Consider the enemy types and scenarios you encounter to make the most informed decision.
Hi guys and girls I need help Basically I’m 3 hours into the game and I have two choices of weapons for cloud which are the iron blade and buster sword! Which one is better overall like straight up facts thanks :3
All of the weapons are good. It depends entirely on how you want to use the character.
I heard you can make clouds weapon have a elemental power like fire, lightning, ice and wind with one of the materia or something like that so plz take that into consideration
I want to use cloud as my main attacker
The Buster Sword has a little more physical attack power, the Iron Blade has a little more defense and magic power. So if you want him to be a physical attacker, stick more with the Buster Sword.
As for imbuing the weapon with an element, you’ll eventually find the “Elemental” Materia that gives your weapon that power - a later sword you’ll find will increase that elemental power, but in general that’s something that increases with your attack power.
I mean it depends on your play style, but early game I found the buster sword more balanced and generally stuck with that. The iron blade favors more magic materia usage so it can be used for encounters you want to pump his magic power and capacity up.
Alright thanks for the help bro
Honestly as you level it the buster sword remains viable late into the game. It is very balanced in stats and skills for magic and physical combat so it is a good sword if you use him as a magic and physical attacker like I did. If you find you use him as a straight combat attacker you will eventually unlock weapons with a lot of skills and straight physical power that usually trade off mana and magic power.
Have a good day/night :3

Hi I'm new to the game! So I have these 5stars weapon on my account and I'm not sure which one should I invest (planning to also get the anniversary weapon for the next banner for cloud) also if you can share any tier list (updated one) of best weapons per character (maybe an endgame weapon or best investment ) please do share. Thanks so much for helping a noob.
In my opinion, Cloud's best sword is his Bahamut sword at ob10 at the moment. It trivializes close to all content up to ex missions.
I think it ’s mostly useful for newer players. I haven’t used it as more than sub weapon in forever as cloud has become the weakest dps in the game. Besides, it’s not really accessible anymore so it doesn’t matter. If someone wanted an equivalent weapon, I’d say one copy of aerith’s new weapon does the job.
Zack’s crossover weapon is really good and is the only one worth pulling the most. You can basically make any enemies weak to fire(that isnt resistant to fire) and deal great damage. Plus mdef up all is good for survivality.
Cloud for sure and maybe Aerith is getting weapons in 2’nd ani so wait for that. But Zack isnt getting anything so his weapon and costume is worth pulling since its good anyways
This Japanese website is the only place with updated tier lists for each character that I'm aware of.
Honestly, If you’re a new player, I’d skip all the crossover weapons and wait for the anniversary. All these weapons will pale next to what we get in September.
Any opinions or facts? I like the nailbat but it feels lackluster.
I haven’t started hard yet, but hard edge loaded with purp materia and attack upgrades made later chapters a breeze. The trick is to find ways to speed up your atb gauge for him and spam skills
Magic is king in hard mode imo. But I preferred from the beginning to have utility, high Cure heals, and better mp Regen with Mythril Saber. It simply just worked for me.
I ran hardedge with deadly dodge, elemental attack/lightning.
Would just roll into the group combo and have full atb then use blade beam/triple slash to hit multiple enemies with skills. Used infinity edge to deal big damage.
Hardedge gets the highest physical attack stats.
Hardege, it has the highest atk stat
Hybrid Melee/ magic with stinger is my go to. It has +elemental materia dmg along with +dmg to all elemental types. So the base attack stats are lower but with those buffs it does amazing damage especially in hard mode now that you can prep for each boss.
Hey guys I just beat the game and I’m on chapter 4 on Hard mode now. What weapon do you tend to use the most for each character?
I was thinking of sticking with Hard Edge for Cloud in most of the run but having Nail Bat seems fun to use in cutscenes but I’m not sure the crit-based weapon is good to use. What are your thoughts?
my favorite is the buster sword. i just started my hard mode run and i’m using the iron blade simply for the fact it has trade-off. regaining that MP is clutch. it also has reprieve
For Cloud I just stuck with the buster sword and only used the other swords to unlock their abilities
For the others I swapped around a lot
Anything with Trade Off + a lot of HP increases
Cloud: Hardedge Tifa: Metal Knuckles Aerith: Mythril Rod Barret: Big Berta
I have cloud and Tifa have highest attack damage they can have and Aeris have most magic damage with this setup
Does hardedge have as many materia slots as the others?
Once you upgrade your weapon skills to level 6, each weapon I believe can have max materia slots as long as those are the sp slots you choose.
So I'm replaying the game on hard and by the 2nd chapter already my weapons are Level 6 and stats maxxed out.
Buster sword is 91/91/11/5
It has the highest total stats of any sword (198 points). The others max out around 170.
Mithril Sabre has higher MATK but much lower ATK. Hardedge has higher ATK but much lower MATK. Potentially you could make an argument for either of these if the other party members are going to be doing most of the magic or physical attacks respectively, but it's better to be good at both physical and magic than great at one and useless at the other.
Twin Stinger and Iron Blade are balanced like Buster but just with shitter stats. Nail Bat at 30/30 even with high crit is pretty pointless on hard mode when Buster does more than triple the base physical and magic damage.
The only reason I used those other swords was to learn weapon proficiencies and look cool. But my old trusty Buster is still the best.
I know there are some slight differences with modifiers but stats are the main thing. Adding HP is pointless when you're already at 9999 cap with two HP-UPs per person. As are those contextual damage modifiers.
So the sword you started off with is the best all round sword.
In part 2 and 3 no doubt we will see more overpowered weapons for Cloud. I can't wait.
Buster sword is pure stats. It's abilities are bad.
You want to be using Iron Blade or Twin Stinger if you care about magic and reprieve. Mythril sabre is probably his best. You do more damage off magic than physicals, and it's high magic combined with -20% magic costs is an incredible boon.
Hard Edge is for pure physical but you don't really want that. Magic is too strong.
It's not really worth it to use the Mythril Saber in hard mode though because you can't recover MP so you're not gonna be using magic that much.
Exactly my experience, I use attacking abilities 90% of the time, and the extra attack stats on Buster or Hardedge are very nice. That being said, Reprieve is also pretty damn nice.
You regen MP in battle and Mytril Sabre increases the speed of MP recovery by 50% on top of the 20% cost discount. Any of his weapons are good enough, it just comes down to preference I think.
the MP problem in hard mode is vastly exaggerated. Regular enemies don't burn your MP really at all, and even when they do it doesn't matter, you can still collect mako shards and mako shards are 10% of your MP. When you have 90+ mp (even more with a single mp up) you're recovering 9-15mp from single mako shards across the entire party. It's really not the issue it's made out to be at all. Even using mp you should be going in to bosses with full MP perfectly fine, unloading on them with a pumped magic stat and blasting tier 3 spells at them is effective. The damage is that good.
Hardedge + triple strike is more effective at mobs than magic + magnify. I mostly stuck to two stinger and hard edge in hard.
mobs are irrelevant to begin with. magnify should be on barrier or haste.
When talking best weapon you should be talking bosses, the regular enemies aren't a problem.
Feel free to use hardedge on mobs and mythril saber on bosses, but as much damage as you're doing, hard is about the bosses.
Its probably the best all around weapon for him I like twin stinger because you can just spam magic.
The passive abilities you learn on the level 6 cores make me not use the Buster Sword. Reprieve, 20% MP cost reduction on healing spells, etc.
Buster Sword is a good all around weapon.
That being said, it doesnt excell at anything compared to Mythrill Saber for Magic Damage and Hardedge for physical dmg.
It really depends on your playstyle and/or the enemies you are fighting to be really honest haha
When I played through I only used the other swords to learn the proficiencies then changed back to Buster as it just feel more right to use it.
You're going to hit all 9s with infinity edge taking 2 atb instead of ga spells taking 1 atb that can be used more freely even when you're not controlling a character because of atb assist building their bars. ga spells also regardless of enemy weaknesses are far more likely to pressure an enemy, such as knocking bahamut down in to pressured state to delay his megaflare.
His normal attack does 1k something and about 3k with death blow but Cid and Red are doing like 8k so why is Cloud not doing much damage? I’m leveling them up underwater I was the north mountain fighting Sephiroth but lost and decided to level up
8K is Very high attack damage. I’m assuming Cid and Red XIII are using their Ultimate Weapons? The damage on those types of weapons do not follow the same formula as other weapons, so it’s an apples to oranges comparison. 1,500 damage from Cloud is more in line with your levels. Maybe a little low, but those are strong enemies you are fighting, so it makes sense.
What’s clouds ultimate weapon? I have the one from the big dragon on him now
Did you defeat Ultimate Weapon (the big purple-ish monster you have to chase around the overworld)?
You get Cloud's ultimate weapon (named Ultima Weapon) by defeating the Weapon (monster) Ultimate Weapon. I know excessively confusing.
Here's a guide to it if you need to do this still.
His ultimate weapon is literally called “Ultima Weapon.” It’s large, white and purple when his health is full, but as his health goes down becomes darker and transparent…and weaker. You have to keep his health high to keep his damage high with that weapon. However, that’s not too hard to do, and when his Hit Points are full, he has no trouble doing maximum damage.
What materia do you have equipped? Also do you have equipment like a Gigas armlet or Champion belt equipped to Red or Cid to increase their strength?
Honestly I just got the weapon from the big dragon in the sky and now he’s doing a lot of damage
Be aware, the Ultima Weapon is a Zero growth weapon. Meaning, the Materia in that weapon will Not gain AP, so it will not level up. Same true for everyone’s ultimate weapon, such as Cid’s Venus Gospel, and Red’s Limited Moon.
They are nice for the end of the game, but they will cost you a lot of AP when leveling.
Til you forget to heal him..
Materia is what boost them. Go to mideel area and run around and level it up with and double or triple weapons you have.
You should have several level 3 or max buy now
Easily.... I have level 3 spells in the Wutai area before I do Yuffie's side quest and level 2 by Nibbelheim
What I would give for those MP numbers in Rebirth hard mode 😭😭
I miss the days of triple digit MP 🥹
I’m new to final fantasy and about to start the remake intergrade, is it best to just stick with clouds first weapon and upgrade it constantly or should I buy a different one eventually?
I used the buster sword the whole game just because I like the way it looks, didn’t run into any issues
I would buy each weapon and at least acquire the skill for it, then upgrade according to your preferred play style. My favorite weapon was acquired late-game, but it’s down to personal preference.
Should definitely buy every weapon, as you need to use the new weapons to learn their skill. On the weapon stat itself they'll tell you what you need to do to gain proficiency and learn the skill.
Which weapon to use ultimately depends on whether you want to min/max what you do with the weapon upgrades. Personally I stick with buster sword because it looks good.
Thank you for the explanation! To clarify because I’m knew to this, if you learn a skill from a weapon, can that skill then be used with other weapons?
Yes
You will use the original buster sword for about an hour of the 40+ hour game. haha
So it’s not that good in the long run? I’m at chapter 4 now and have only used it haha
Oh shit, I’m sorry, I didn’t see this was Integrate. I thought it were OG FFVII.. sorry!
Other weapons give you useful ATB skills as well as some passive skills. Different weapons are better for different playstyles. It's worth obtaining all of them and learning their skills/upgrading them.
Buster Sword (not story) spoiler
!Fully upgraded the Buster Sword is just a stat stick without good passive skills like Reprieve (prevent death once per battle) or 50% better MP regen.!<
You should be buying every weapon in the remake, there’s only 5-6 for each character, and some of them are mission rewards so it won’t cost much. All weapons can be used for the whole game, but it’s good to have options+ each weapon has an unlockable skill which can be applied to the others
My build for Cloud: Barrier + Magnify, HP MP, SfB PDF Enemy Skill + HP Absorb, STR MAG, LUCK LUCK, VIT SPR, Full-Throttle Wristguards, all the red orbs on Buster Sword
I lost embarrassingly many times to Titan and Hueyacoatl, even Phoenix. The Brineborn Demon packs a surprising punch too, shoutouts to OG Nibel Area game over, courtesy of his roundhouse kick!
Once I started getting past Kujata it was pretty much smooth sailing, Iron Clad just takes forever, Alexander is a pushover, I got too cocky and almost wiped at him though. He killed Cloud twice and then Zack too and I don't run Revive, but it was no big deal to destroy him with just Cloud in one stagger. Mindflayer is like a freebie mana-break. Bahamut can get intense but didn't lose to him once. Odin got me once cause I forgot how Spatial Distortion works, miraculously I avoided Zantetsuken but he managed to kill Zack somehow. Second attempt I eat many attacks but Plasma Discharge is a lifesaver. Just start every round by having Zack Haste himself and get good.
That leg in the air lol 😆
Nice work!
I just want to discuss what's the general opinion on both weapons, and what weapon are you going for. I feel like on the long run, Sephiroth's weapons is the more powerful of both, since it gives bonus dmg to all allies. However, personally I managed to save like 900 cloud weapon parts and I would prefer to invest in something that I can get to a high OB fast. What y'all doing?
Ob10 Cloud turns Cloud with his old weapons into modern dps. Cleared escalation 25 with Cloud fire weapon and his weapon ob10. Yes he broke a stage made to make Sephiroth and magic user shine.that is how strong he becomes.
Sephiroth? His fire weapon is strong and you better get if you do not have Lucia limited weapon. Since I have Lucia focused on Cloud and Sephiroth's other weapon, now ob6 and yes in my opinion this weapon will last far longer since it brings new party buff.
For fire magic if you have been playing for a while you should have Tifa fire weapon + Matt weapon that boost magic and fire. These two weapons in the general pool and get you very close to what Sephiroth can do. More over they hinted that next month Zack 0.5 anniversary fire will get a rework, another powerful fire magic weapon. So, that is why I prioritized Cloud and Sephiroth non.e weapon. By the way, I pulled till end page 3, got 0 copy of his fire weapon and no UW. No regret
I've got Lucia's weapon at ob10. Would you rather focus on Cloud's weapon and get it to OB10, or try to spread and get both non elemental weapons at OB6?
To get Cloud to ob 10 I had 500 Cloud parts+300 generic, then first page 1 copy Cloud, 1 copy Sephiroth, 2nd page just Cloud. I did not get any limited weapon on 1st 2 pages beside the guranted ones. So, I remember I went to enhance both weapons and did my math. To get Cloud to ob10 3rd page was 1 copy Cloud and the rest Sephiroth. Also no limited weapon from regular steps. In the end I bought the pack 8.8 red +100 parts both Sephiroth and Cloud. Point I am making is that my pulls were really bad, but if you get some luck you can get it to ob10 without spending and maybe grapping some copies for Sephiroth too. Wish list his water weapon, non limited and the strongest water weapon in the game. I wish you luck with your pulls and I hope you get his UW. Beside, we are recruiting, welcome to our discord: https://discord.gg/w9DwVgdS
Depends how many pulls you got saved but I would get two or three copies of Cloud's and take it to OB6 using those weapon parts then go for Sephiroth's weapon to hopefully get OB6 by the third page and call it a day because anything past page 3 is a shot in the dark.
I decided to do one and only one "shot in the dark" pull and it somehow landed me Cloud's ultimate weapon lol
That feels like some actual solid advice. Thanks!
Took me 12 pages to OB10 all three weapons. Please dont ask how much Ive burned.
I went with clouds fusion. I’m kinda nervous about seph honestly. I have a feeling his weapon parts will be very scarce and most of his weapons will be almost exclusively lb’s…just a feeling tho. I have no evidence other than squareenix/appli’s past behavior.
Sephiroth's non-elemental is an amazing weapon for EVERY situation. Great off-hand and it will never be bad. While his other weapon is locked to fire (Amazing for magic, still decent for physical as a support).
Cloud's is good as an off-hand for every situation too. His best off-hand IMO.
NOW, I've seen somewhere that apparently Seph will not get many banners (might not get an other this year) so ... yeah I wish I knew that before pulling ...
Not getting a lot of banners would be a bummer. That is partly what gets me cautious about Sephiroth: I know people who invested in his kit will be very happy, but will that kit constantly get expanded? Will that omni arcanum get much use? That is for the future to tell us.
Seph is OP.
Let’s exclude buster sword because of how iconic it is, and ask which of the unlocks looks best? I’d just have to say hardedge. It’s so unique among all the swords. It’s between that and the organics. Both are awesome
I thought Ultima Weapon would have been cooler than just a few highlighted colours. I honestly like Murasame as one of his weapons.
How has no one mentioned Ultima Weapon yet? Stunning
Honestly I loved ultima weapon
The buster sword is an obvious answer but I'll go with some others. The Hardedge is sweet. I also like the butterfly edge looks like a giant combat knife. And a shout out to the crystal sword. I always pretend it's Cecils sword from ff4 because it looks like that.
Op excluded buster sword. Which of Cecil's swords are you referring to? Never made the connection and I haven't played IV in a while.
Mythgraven blade for Cecil.
I like ultima, force stealer looks good too
force stealer is a longtime favorite of mine. the rune blade had a very unique look, too.
Loved this in the remake haha. Always finish boss fights with a home run.
I'd rather get hit with kotr than have climhazard used with the nailbat
Ragnarok and apocalypse look dope.
Apocalypse is my favorite. Hands down.
best weapon for cloud in final fantasy vii remake
Key Considerations for Cloud's Best Weapon in FFVII Remake
Weapon Types: Cloud primarily uses swords, and each weapon has unique stats and abilities. Consider how each weapon complements your playstyle.
Stats: Look for weapons that enhance Cloud's strengths, such as Attack Power, Magic Attack, and Materia slots. Higher Attack Power is crucial for dealing damage.
Abilities: Weapons come with unique abilities that can be learned and used in combat. Choose a weapon that offers abilities that fit your combat strategy.
Materia Compatibility: Consider how many Materia slots a weapon has and whether it allows for the combination of offensive and defensive Materia.
Recommendation:
Ultima Weapon: This is often considered the best weapon for Cloud in FFVII Remake. It has the highest Attack Power (up to 200) and increases damage based on the number of Ability Points (AP) earned in battle. It also has 5 Materia slots, allowing for great customization.
Apocalypse: Another excellent choice, especially for leveling up. It has a high Attack Power and increases the amount of AP earned in battle, making it ideal for grinding Materia.
Takeaway: If you're focused on maximizing damage output, go for the Ultima Weapon. If you want to level up your Materia quickly, the Apocalypse is a great alternative.
