TL;DR
Strength Builds
For players focusing on strength builds, colossal weapons like the Great Stars and Prelate's Fire Hammer are highly recommended. The Great Stars can be powerstanced with heavy infusions, providing significant damage and a bit of healing when tanking hits [1:4]. The Prelate's Fire Hammer is noted for its effectiveness against tough bosses like Malenia
[1:3]. Colossal weapons offer a satisfying playstyle with their massive damage output
[1:11].
Strength-Faith Builds
For those interested in a Strength-Faith build, several weapons stand out. The Lothric Knight Greatsword and Dragon Slayer Axe are popular choices due to their scaling and ability to infuse with lightning or blessed gems for additional effects [4:1]
[4:9]. The Executioner Greatsword offers high STR damage and FP regeneration, making it an excellent choice for Paladin-style builds
[4:2].
Versatile Weapons
The Sword of Night and Flame was once considered one of the best weapons due to its versatility and powerful attacks [3:2]. While opinions vary on the absolute best weapon, many players agree that the right weapon depends on individual playstyle and skill
[3:1].
Multiplayer Support Weapons
In multiplayer settings, support weapons like the Hunting Horn can be beneficial for buffing teammates [5:1]. However, some players argue that maximizing damage output is more effective than focusing solely on support
[5:3]. The Sword and Shield (SnS) is another versatile option that can fill various roles within a team, offering decent damage and defensive capabilities
[5:2].
Recommendations Beyond Discussions
When choosing a weapon for multiplayer in Elden Ring, consider your team's composition and your preferred playstyle. Experiment with different weapons to find what suits you best, and don't hesitate to switch between weapons based on the situation and your team's needs.
Unlike the dark souls trilogy, where the great club was a weapon that almost anyone building a strength build would use at some point, in ER this weapon ended up being somewhat out of the way because of the existence of other ultra-heavy strength weapons that were more prominent here such as the greatsword (which regained its super popularity from DS2), the ruinda's sword that scales S in strength and special intelligence attack, the prelate's hammer with its absurd range and A scale infused with heavy and the Giant crusher, the spiritual heir to DS2's smelter hammer and DS3's Ledo hammer weighing more than a medium weight set and asking for 60 strength, but there are a few reasons to want to use this dry hunk of Erdtree here in ER.
Despite its B scale in strength, it is not weaker than the Giant crusher, at least not by much (according to my tests with a character with a character with 66 strength holding the weapon with both hands to get 99) the difference is that the Giant crusher is much heavier and requires much more strength than the great club, the Giant crusher weighs about 23 and the great club weighs about 17, the Giant crusher requires 60 STR and the great club requires just 35, and similar comparisons can also be made with the Prelate's hammer, although it requires less force and weighs less than the Giant crusher.
Regarding the issue of it not being an infusible weapon, in fact it is a bit problematic, not because the weapon cannot have the war ash changed, but because for some reason this weapon is upgraded with normal stone, seriously, it smells like a weapon upgraded with somber, but for some reason it is not. Regarding the golden earth, which is the war ash of the weapon, you have to know how to use it, because despite having projectiles, its main damage is in the weapon being thrown to the ground and in the sacred explosion, it is a war ash to be used at close range, not at a distance. It's not very good for pvp, but it's usable in pve. Finally, I want to talk about the movement set, being more precise the heavy and charged attack, God, this weapon is a posture breaking machine, the heavy attack is the same as the pickaxe or the blood demon arm, and because it is a colossal weapon, it breaks the posture of bosses in an extremely calm way.
In short, do you like strength builds? Test the great club, I'm not going to say it's better than the Giant crusher or the prelate's hammer, but I think this weapon deserves more attention
People keep comparing this to great hammers when it should be compared to other colossals. As a colossal, it is pretty good
In the post I compared it with other colossal weapons, such as the prelate's hammer and the Giant crusher, but people probably confuse this weapon with a great hammer, after all in the DS trilogy this weapon is a Great hammer
This weapon got my through my first playthrough. Incredibly satisfying and only had to change to executioners blade for malenia (cheese I know)
To kill Malenia without any type of summon for the first time I used the Prelate's Fire Hammer infused with fire, it's incredible how strong this build is, I even helped people kill Malenia with this build
I tend to disagree, the great stars is not the best weapon for building strength, it is really destructive with hidden and bleeding, but for strength I think there are better options
Lmao this is just blatantly so wrong, powerstanced Great Stars with heavy infusions are INSANE on a strength build. Plus the little bit of healing goes a long way when you're tanking hits.
It doesn't need to be optimized for a strength build to still be very good on a strength build.
Strength just has a ton of really strong usable options and I think it's a bit reductive to say that a weapon isn't good on a strength build just because it can be better on an Occult build.
It doesn’t work.
It was a bug that only affected a very few weapon buffs, mainly Bloodflame Blade was the only one with any practical application.
It got fixed years ago.
honestly any great hammer, that class is prob the best in the game
If it's not the best, it's undoubtedly the most constant, there's no such thing as a big hammer that's exactly bad.
Does it still have the mechanic where if you put on a weapon spell buff or grease, the ash of war projectiles are also affected? Been a long time since I’ve used it
I don't know, I don't tend to use tallow or oil on weapons, it probably won't work
This is my first playthrough and I thought, as the title mentions, I should have a ranged weapon and a melee weapon for when they get close to me. I have split all my points between spears and bows for the most part. I guess my question is should I abandon one and fully focus on just one weapon?
I've gotten owned a lot but finally beat the first dungeon. I imagine my build is bad. Any thoughts?
Unless you want to follow guides for your entire life, consider your first few runs a wash, where you will make mistakes with skill and attribute allocation. It will educate you and you will be better for it. The game is completely possible to win with a character that is not perfectly min/max'd but there is s good amount of skill involved with success and a lot of your "power" doesn't come from avatar efficacy, it comes from knowledge.
To answer your specific question without being a pretentious asshole, if you are building ranged weapons, you typically don't need to divide your skill points amongst melee weapon abilities and ranged. You want to focus on ranged abilities and rounding out your support abilities to shore up any weaknesses that the ranged tree doesn't cover. That said, there are abilities that can be utilized by ranged and melee weapons all the same and they are very powerful and useful, especially in the early game.
Instead of grabbing specific weapon abilities, grab attack skills from Warfare like Seize the Initiative and War Cry. Seize works with ranged or melee weapons and can be helpful when an enemy manages to close the gap. If you want to focus on melee but still want a strong ranged sidearm, spend a single point and grab Dexterity from ranged weapons. It gives tremendous value for a single point and ensures that you will take out any fleeing enemies while also guaranteeing a strong start against enemy packs.
Nothing wrong with building into two weapons, but if you are aiming to become a master of both, that's a tall order.
With that said, my suggestion if you wish to stick to this VIABLE build, is to decide if you like being ranged or melee more.
If prefer ranged, you should focus more on the Ranged weapon tree and perhaps 3-4 skill points on your melee tree. This is just a suggestion, by all means, do what you want and experiment.
If prefer melee, you technically ONLY need Take Aim from the Ranged Weapon tree, as its the most important skill in the entire tree. So you can easily put 1 point (or 2, putting one more into the Dexterity passive) and then invest into your melee weapon of choice.
Extra bit: for hybrid ranged fighter builds, I usually take my Ranged Weapon skills up to Upper Hand (the right side of the skill tree) and Take Aim. This lets you apply Hunters Mark and fight like a Ranger Knight.
At the very first few levels, I suggest putting 1 point into Take Aim first and only adding more once you are sure its what you want. You only need Take Aim to reliably use a ranged weapon.
you SHOULD build dual wield you SHOULD take drugs before every dungeon you SHOULD rawdog it
What drugs are you doing BEFORE dungeons?
ALL of it
Having ranged and a melee is fine. As a new player it makes sense, but fully investing in both skill trees might leave you wanting. Look in other skill trees to compliment your build. Warfare etc.
You can, but your build will be very late game oriented. Usually you prioritise one, getting good support skills for that weapon, before rounding out your build with a weapon that complements the first weapon.
This is a painfully stupid question
It didn't used to be. The answer used to be Sword of Night and Flame +10.
The doot horn, obviously.
The friends you made along the way.
Club
Obviously it's the pizza slicer and the jazz bubble club.
The real answer is that there's no best weapon, everything can become death incarnate in the right hands.
I’m aiming for enough strength to wield a Greatshield (Lothric Knight’s, so: 36) 🛡️
&, I’d like to get my faith to 30-40
I’m still early game. Defeated Deacons of the Deep, boss fight, last night. So, my Str is about 20, Faith 16, atm, & I’m still just rocking my longsword +3, uninfused… + I’ve not unlocked Faith buffs yet 💭
I loved how ‘Lies of P’ let me easily play/experiment with more than enough different weapons (each felt unique) ⚔️
My next weapon in mind is the Sunlight SS, but it won’t really change how I play, right? So, what other options would be fun, + beneficial for my build?
->Saint Bident? (Seems to be more dex based than Str) ->Wolnir’s Holy Sword? ->Dragonslayer axe? (Are there other dragonslayer weapons?)
Also, I’ve not infused my longsword, nor do I have any buffs unlocked. So, I don’t have experience with those whatsoever—any insight would be appreciated 🙏🏽
Spell wise, I conserve FP for Replenishment, & Scattering Tears, but would also like to add miracles likes Lightning Spear (for ranged DPS). So, maybe infusing to save an Attunement Slot + FP’s useful, rather than blessing. But, blessing gives you better momentary AR + flexibility ⚡️
PS: how can I upgrade/reinforce multiple weapons simultaneously in NG (my first run)? I’ve barely got enough mats for my sword, & shield’s just +2 💭
PPS: My favourite weapon in Elden Ring was the Blasphemous Blade 🎮🙂
PPPS: I know this vid doesn’t show shield usage, but I love shields in Soulslikes 🙏🏽
Thanks, -Lg
If you're fine with making use of weapon buff spells or items, I recommend the Executioner Greatsword. It's not infusible (but can be buffed for some reason), and doesn't have any faith scaling. But what it does have is INSANE STR damage, blunt damage, and gives you a bit of FP on every enemy killed so you have more uptime for your buffs. It's basically the best Paladin type of weapon, and can be buffed to whatever damage type your build is. Otherwise a lot of the other comments have more specific STR/FTH weapons, but I felt like I should throw EGS out there since I feel like it's slept on.
As for getting more upgrade mats, the next area (Farron Keep) has an item you can find in a tower that, when given to the shrine handmaid, lets you buy infinite titanite shards. There's a few of these around the game that let you buy infinite of each upgrade mat (except for slabs, keep those for your favorite weapons!)
You can also infuse a simple gem to your shield, which gives you a bit of FP/s regen to have more spells to throw out.
Right on, thanks! I think I'll get the Sunlight Straight Sword, DragonSlayer's Axe, & aim for an infusable faith-scaling greatsword, ie: Lorian's or Wolnir's. +, wondering if greatshields are even worth it... or if I should just go for a Black Knight's Shield 💭
I'll remember the note about simple gems. FP/s regen sounds useful :)
You should try lothrics ultra greatsword with a blessed gem keeps lightning gives hp regen add blessed to a caestus for more regen then use sun princess ring giving 6hp regen per second then use gentle prayer (when needed) with a chime for more regen on top later on pray for favor from filianors chime to get the full regen of 2 per item they need to be +10 but you can swap the caestus for the Millwood knights sheild in ashes it gives the 2 regen even without upgrades and its not to heavy letting you wear heavier armor ... now you have a heavy crushing lightning healer🤣
Heads up, both Lorian's and Wolnir's are boss weapons, meaning they can't be infused or buffed, and use titanite scales for their special upgrade levels. Sunlight Sword is a good bet though since it's Oath ability is good stuff all around
Lothric Greatsword!!
I definitely recommend the Lothric Knight Greatsword and the Dragon's Tooth.
I recommend something but for pyro
40/40 fai int build + longsword with chaos gem + great swamp ring, witch ring, sage ring, fire clutch ring
A ligthning/blessed infused lothric knight greatsword it's probably the best choice or the dragonslayer greataxe for some nasty damage, If you instead want something a bit lighter and less stat demanding a lightning claymore is a great choice aswell
I recommend dragon slayer axe and lothric knight greatsword ( I'm also doing faith build ) currently using the axe, I wouldn't bother using the spear until you can put lightning on it ( but if you wanna do what I did and just use the Trident for skeletons put blessing infusion on for the time being and that way you'll have a decent weapon to stop skeletons from respawning ) also the scaling on the Trident goes to A in faith with either blessed or lightning.
Hi all,was wondering what you think the best weapon for multiplayer is? I have a group i normal play with. One uses hammer, then we have a bow and a switchaxe user while i normally play dual blades but want to learn another one as well
I’d have to say SnS. It’s really good all round and can fill in any gaps you feel a team has.
Can KO almost as well as a Hammer (personally I’d say better but we gotta give hammer mains something).
Does pretty decent damage, I’m not talking GS damage per single hit but I find it similar to Longsword with less range.
Can block an ‘oh shit’ moment and prevent carting.
Can use items while unsheathed.
For your team, you’ve got the bonk, the boom and the range covered, so a damage based SnS would be good. If the hammer main changes up, switch to playing for KOs etc.
But really, the ‘best’ weapon is whatever you’re best with. I find I’m best with Gunlance and we’ve all seen how unimpressive it is compared to some weapons.
Best support is finishing the fight faster, so unless you’re actually good at hunting horn or sns (not standing around buffing but actually doing damage), it’s not worth doing some support build. Just let everyone deal with their own health and do more damage. This isn’t a game that has things like supports or tanks.
Thank you, this if my first mh game so wasnt quite sure
Hunting horn, everybody loves HH bros.
HH coz it's support other players. But then again, I'm the one who need support hahahaha
Maybe try the Hunting Horn to buff your teammates
Blasphemous Blade paired with the Sacred Relic Sword. One jump attack decimates most things
Oh were doing it like that
Darkmoon greatsword
Doing a Darkmoon Greatsword run now, and it slaps enemies like cheese on bread
I learned that charged attacks while using the ability are buffed by Godfrey icon, AND shard of Alexander
Am I the only person who absolutely hated that weapon this time around? It’s easily the most ugly looking rendition.
Kind of shocked by how the player base seems to love it. It’s Bloodborne version is so much better. And that version isn’t even regularly the most popular weapon in its fan base like the Darkmoon Greatsword is.
I find it unfortunate that it’s one of the only strength/intelligence weapon to mostly pull from mostly intelligence. I’d be curious if it would still be popular if something like the Royal Greatsword was a bit more viable for pure intelligence builds.
Elden ring was the first souls game I’ve played, but I was aware that the DMGS was in all the games in some way, and as much as I love it, it does feel a bit bland
OP with shard of Alexander + Godfrey icon
The giant crusher is probably my favorite, I really like the item description.
Honestly never used it besides pvp and never used it again
I only ever used it on my tank, I never used it in pvp since my only pvp character is a dex build.
Im a filthy casual so:
Moonveil
Rivers of Blood
Sword of Night and Flame
Ps. I dont play pvp, please dont hate me
Hello just wanted to know what weapons and weapon combos are best when taking on large groups of enemies and over all difficult enemies alone. I’m using gs and bow but still die sometimes. What are your guys opinions based on your experiences?
My go to for solo farming is Greatsword with blood drinker. I can solo just about anything especially if I use the right side tree on Greatsword that has a frontal shield when charging heavies. Any secondary weapon you want is fine, hammer has good rends (trenchent rend, sundering shockwave, sundering clear out, and armor breaker) which speeds things up quite a bit. I was able to solo Montrapala the Unruled and his spawns for an artifact quest, but it took like 20+ minutes to kill him.
To survive Sword/flail + shield
To survive 40% worse but damage 200% better blunderbuss+ig
considering blunderbuss+ig wont put you into position where you can get with shield build
Bloodrinker?
Lifestaff/VG
For PvP or PvE?
For PvE, greatsword + great hammer blooddrinker tank or power stone flail + light staff paladin healer.
I'm just curious - I'm guessing weapons like Lance and HBG are less fun in multiplayer because you don't have/get to react to the monster as much, and weapons like Greatsword are more fun due to easier but not free setups?
Or is there no difference at all?
Greatsword straight up has a higher skill ceiling in multiplayer. You can't punish head turns since you never know which way the monster will turn so you have to take advantage of the smaller openings. On top of that you have to deal with desync if you're not the host. If I play GS online, my game plan is to stagger the monster as quickly as possible at the beginning of the hunt to measure the desync, and then time my attacks in advance so that they actually hit on the hosts screen.
Greatsword is so much fun in multiplayer when the monster is toppled from a stun or from hitting the legs, because you can set up a full draw slash combo.
Then the lance player charges and hits you on the way.
I find that gunning is more fun in multiplayer. Takes the pressure off you a bit.
I guess I just feel like it'd be cheap with how strong it already is lol, but I get what you're saying.
You'd be a great help to your team since you'd probably have an easier time shooting the monster while it attacks them. It's also fun watching how other hunters fight.
It's also fun watching them get beat by the monster. I remember one hunt that went horribly wrong right from the beginning. We were hunting a gold rathian in the misty peaks. We confront her in the cave behind the waterfall, and we lost so badly. I watched it all from the back.
I was doing my thing with my HBG, and I was doing fine, but I watched the gold rathian go on a killing spree. She carted the other 3 hunters in a row. She was unstoppable lol and there I am just watching this happen in complete disbelief.
Within one minute of engaging the gold rath, we lost.
LBG is the biggest difference imo because multi opens up tons of playstyles for it that are not viable solo
Hammer is nicer online ;). Also GS when everyone knows what they're doing can be super pleasant
HBG is thee most dumb fun weapon out there. Whenever you wanna shut your brain off and just do DMG, it's fun to just spray on them.
Aerial hammer is fantastic in multiplayer, a little harder to pull off solo but still fun. Pretty much any weapon/style with counters/guard points is not gonna be as fun in multiplayer. Can't counter if it doesn't aim at you.
Valor ls is, I think, probably the best solo weapon. Adept hh comes in pretty close for me, but pretty much every weapon with adept style is more fun in solo. People also shit on valor hammer as being bad, (probably is) but it's so fun against the right monster.
I'm thinking of replying elden ring again but I'm so used to it, so i need i challenge to make the game fun again,,, only give me the worst of the worst weapon that is really bad to play with
So of every type? here we go, long one:
Thrusting Shields: Dueling Shield. There are only two of these, so really they're basically the same, but the Carian one is better stat wise by a touch against anything not heavily magic resistant.
Hand-to-hand: Dane's Footwork. The two are again pretty close, but Footwork is higher commitment. Not a huge difference though.
Throwing weapons: I'm going to include all of them and not just the daggers here, and I'd say the Axe. It's high commitment but not all that strong.
Backhand Blades: probably the Smithscript Cirque (is that cheating to put the throwing weapons in judgement twice? eh). The ranged attack is nice but that's not really why you want to use the weapon class, the other two are better for shredding.
Perfume Bottle: Probably the poison one. It does physical damage which kinda negates the idea of pure elemental damage that's the main draw to the class, there are better ways to poison and take advantage of poison.
Beast Claws: Again only two weapons so... I'd say the base Beast Claw is probably the worse of the two. Lower damage output and none of the ashes really make up for not getting the unique skill of Red Bear's Claw
Light Greatswords: Leda's. The skill misses a lot, the others are more flexible. Still good though.
Great Katanas: Dragon Hunter's. The basic one can benefit from Occult infusion and Rakshasa's is more generally usable, Dragon Hunter's is nice against dragons of course, but the skill is less consistent.
Daggers: Ivory Sickle. Locked to quickstep, god awful damage. At least Celebrant's can be an ash of war mule.
Straight Swords: Cane Sword probably. Just an inferior amount of damage with no uniquely good properties. Usable, just always sub-par
Part 2:
Greatswords: Forked Greatsword. Take Flamberge, make it ass, boom.
Collosal Swords: Troll Knight's. It's just a worse Troll's Golden Sword, at least Moonrithyll's has the glintblades.
Thrusting Swords: the base Rapier. Lacks the slashing versatility of the Estoc, outclassed by the other straight thrusting swords for damage. Light, but that's the only stand out feature. Better to use Rogier's in its niche. (Edit: upon further reflection, Rapier has a use case for its high crit rate. Noble Estoc is probably lowest, since normal Estoc is better most of the time)
Heavy Thrusting Swords: Probably Queelign's. All of the base game swords are goated, especially Great Epee for its moveset, Queelign's isn't even the best flame art thrusting sword despite the innate fire damage. It's still good, but I don't think it does better than the others.
Curved Swords: Eclipse Shotel. If you aren't cheesing, it does pitiful damage, and it's useless in PvE.
Curved Greatswords: Monk's Flameblade. Wish it was better since it looks so cool, but it's not even as hard hitting as Dismounter.
Katanas: Dragonscale Blade. It's okay, the frost lightning buff does okay work, but it's just not as good as the Halberd and without bleed, the frost proc isn't super impressive.
Twinblades: Gargoyle's Black Blades probably. I would have given it credit as a holy option if the DLC didn't add two holy twinblades that dunk on it.
Axes: Celebrant's Cleaver. Awful damage that is mitigated by a worse moveset. It's just terrible.
Greataxes: Gargoyle's Black Axe. Same deal as the twinblades, the regular one is more flexible and there's a better faith option in Death Knight's.
man so sad to see my dragonscale blade here lol, on my no summon run i used it against Radagon,Messmer and Midra. Was very very useful especially with radagon. Guess since still it’s a katana it is extremely viable…maybe…i think 🫠
I would argue the low weight and high crit modifier gives rapier a small niche use case, vs noble estoc which is just a worse estoc that's harder to get.
Disagree about Dragonscale Blade. The thing hits like a truck. If you want a non-bleed katana, it's a go-to.
I think Star-lined is probably worse because it exists as an off-hand to Moonveil. I don't really see a use case for it otherwise. It really should've been a light greatsword.
Part 3:
Hammers: Varre's Bouquet. The higher bleed can't make up for the basically negative damage, no reason to not just use the Morning Star or Spiked Club, especially since Spiked Club has one of the strongest Occult infusions in the game anyway.
Flails: basic Flail. Immediately outclassed by Nightriders very early on, no reason to look at it unless you are doing an RL1 run, but if you are why are you using a Flail?
Great Hammers: Celebrant's Skull. Yet again low damage with a paltry rune reward on kill, the whole Celebrant line is terrible.
Colossals: Staff of the Avatar I guess? Envoy's Greathorn and Great Club outclass it in the holy section, the butt slam isn't the strongest attack in the world especially when compared to Devonia's, also in the same category of holy colossals. Less disappointing than Dragon Greatclaw but at least that gets a significant amount of lightning damage.
Spears: Celebrant's Rib Rake. Easy pick, even with how bad the Torchpole is, at least it has utility with its low damage. Rib Rake just sucks and is shorter.
Greatspears: goated class of weapons, hard to pick, but probably Bloodfiend's Sacred Spear. it's just tuned down Mohg's, only use is dual wielding with Mohg's before NG+. Unlike the spear version you can't infuse it so it's kinda stuck playing second fiddle to a spear that already does what it does, and you can only access it after beating Mohg to begin with.
Halberds: Pest's Glaive. Only claim to fame is being light, it just does less damage.
Reapers: basic Scythe. No real reason to not just use Grave Scythe instead.
In this list you're leaving out huge points, versatility and availability. For example: beast claws are better than red bear claws - the latter only works for pure strength while the former works on any single build. Another is the scythe, lower requirements than grave scythe, no farm, much better occult scaling and bleed, double hit r2
I did almost put Beast Claws up for versatility, actually, but looking through the ash of war list for it there's just nothing I'd prefer over Red Bear Hunt. The higher damage and better weapon skill seal that one for me, but there are only two of them and it's not like they're all that different, not like Beast Claws are bad on any build that isn't strength. That one, like alot of the early DLC categories, is just kinda a coin flip since there aren't many to begin with.
Scythe on the other hand only has value as an "can't be assed to farm Grave Scythe" bit, if it was the only infusable scythe I'd probably drop... I guess Winged Scythe of the other three? But Grave Scythe is just better than Scythe most of the time, it only loses out on pure dex at lowest use requirements (and that's including Occult, the higher base damage leaves it in a better spot than Scythe), with 23 strength a quality Grave Scythe beats out keen Scythe even to 99 dex, and it's not like level economy is tight in ER, you can sink a few levels or equipment slots for 23 strength so... Grave Scythe clears.
It’s mostly the move set. It’s true that you could feasibly beat the game with them but I seriously think it would be easier to beat the game with just a torch because of how much easier the melee moveset is to master and the tedium of grinding runes or materials with bolts that you’ll have to replace with more grinding for more bolts along with having no stat scaling, stuck with the kick AOW, uninfuseable, and comparatively low DPS. Again it’s entirely doable but arguably the hardest and definitely the most tedious
Probably Cane Sword. It's worse than the weathered SS or the stone sheathed sword. Ivory sickle is ass, but quickstep is still quickstep. Smithscript daggers take forever to kill but you can still use them at a safe distance. Cane sword? Hopeless. Bad damage, bad range, no critical modifier, bad scalings, the only redeemable thing is square off. And it's the worst square off in the game
Worst square off user in the game is still a square off user. That makes it better than many other weapons by default
People posting weapons that have very functional movesets / weapon classes regardless of their damage. Try beating the game with just Crepus's Black-Key Crossbow.
What makes a weapon good or bad? Everyone says the dancers blades are the worst, for example, but they have sometimes worked better than everything else
Your skill with a weapon is ultimately what makes something good or bad. Everyone looks at overall AR and tends to ignore everything else that goes into the game. If we were all standing still and trading cannon shots with enemies one by one, you want the highest AR. But that's not what we're doing. Higher AR means slower attack time, more recovery time, more stamina use. Less AR, and you benefit from the opposite of each. There are exceptions in each category where something might be a little OP, but every weapon has some kind of tradeoff. Reach, speed, damage, combos. DPS is pretty much the same across the board in a vacuum. Just depends on what playstyle and attack pattern you're best with
I have fallen into the "build guide" trap one too many times sadly, the OP weapon is the one you can kill enemies with what good is an ultra great sword if you are bad at free aiming? your opponent could be using a dagger and you're never going to hit him.
I particularly really enjoyed demon fists, and everyone snubs it because they have low range, then you send them flying with their special attack haha.
How you use it, really. I love the Farron Greatsword, despite its shortcomings.
dancers blades have split damage types which, in general make your weapon damage lower, as both damages have to go through the enemies resistances separately. I think anyways. probably.
I tried them on Midir and there were complete garbage, but against most mobs they shred do hard. I'm not too sure myself, but assuming it is as you said, as long as the enemy isn't resistant to both the fire and magic, they are quite good. If they're not resistant to either, they do insane damage
In terms of the Dancers swords they’re considered bad because though they have a relatively high AR it comes from the weapon having 3 damage types, all of which are at a rather low damage threshold when compared to other weapons of those elements, but what further compounds this issue is the fact that the damage types aren’t all dealt in each hit, rather only with their corresponding sword. This basically chokeholds you into using the L1 moveset in most scenarios because you’re otherwise dealing mostly Dark damage (which is pretty heavily resisted by most late game/dlc enemies) and losing out on a whole third of your potential AR damage. The L1 moveset is also considerably slower than every other curved sword attack in the game (but significantly flashier) which goes against the role curved swords generally fill and it’s scalings aren’t particularly great either and require a large chunk of investment into multiple stats which tends to benefit characters in later NG+ cycles.
In comparison to another weapon like the Sellsword Winblades or Lorians Greatsword, the Twinblades have some of the highest DPS potential in the game because of their fast moveset and ability to work on multiple builds because of infusions whereas Lorians Sword scales well of Strength and ok in every other stat making it viable for repeat playthroughs or the moment you get it, it’s also got great base physical damage with a little fire damage sprinkled on top and a weapon skill that allows it a little bit more range than normal and buffs the fire damage even more. It’s simply easier to build around and use effectively
It is also one of the only weapons with a secret upgrade! If you get both twin princes swords, you can fuse them and aging both powers. It does split damage a bit more than I like but still really cool.
I actually think it’s a downgrade, going from an ultra greatsword to a greatsword feels so weak in comparison, i also just don’t think the combined weapon is that good, you lose so much of the poise that makes lorians so good
The second best boss weapon that is only behind dragon slayer great axe. Geunine good weapon and does alot of damage
Technically its behind every mandatory boss in the base game though
Because of From's antifun decision to just say "fuck you no early archives for you lmao" with the key spawn (/j)
Edit: sorry, you meant ranking. Then I would have to agree.
You have to beat the boss twice. One in NG, a second time in NG+. Make sure to grab one weapon in NG and the other in NG+ and then you can combine them into a unique greatsword
best weapons for multiplayer in elden ring
Key Considerations for Best Weapons in Multiplayer (Elden Ring)
Weapon Type: Different weapon types cater to various playstyles. Consider whether you prefer melee (swords, axes), ranged (bows, crossbows), or magic (staffs, seals).
Scaling and Upgrades: Look for weapons that scale well with your character's stats. Weapons that scale with Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence can be more effective as you level up.
Status Effects: Weapons that inflict status effects (like bleed, poison, or frostbite) can be particularly effective in multiplayer, as they can quickly chip away at opponents' health.
Range and Speed: Fast weapons allow for quick attacks and dodging, while longer-range weapons can keep enemies at bay. Balance your choice based on your preferred combat style.
Ashes of War: Consider weapons that can be infused with powerful Ashes of War, which can provide unique skills and enhance your combat effectiveness.
