TL;DR
Top Legendary Power Weapons
For players returning to Destiny 2, the Apex Predator remains a highly recommended power weapon due to its strong DPS capabilities. It can be crafted with desirable perks like Reconstruction and Bait and Switch, although obtaining it requires participating in specific activities when available [1:3]. Another solid choice is the Edge Transit grenade launcher, which is favored for its versatility and ease of acquisition through onslaught activities
[1:2].
Notable Weapon Recommendations
Several legendary weapons stand out in the current meta. The Call, a strand sidearm that shoots grenades, is praised for its effectiveness and unique mechanics [4:1]. The Khvostov, available both as a legendary and an exotic, offers customization and adaptability across various encounters
[4:2]. Pro Memoria, another heavy ammo option, is recommended for crafting with perks like Recon/Bait and Switch
[4:3].
PvE and PvP Considerations
In terms of PvE, weapons like The Call paired with Sunshot or Graviton Lance provide a balanced loadout for general activities [4:7]. For more advanced content such as Nightfalls and Raids, it's beneficial to have a combination of high-DPS weapons and those that synergize with your build
[4:5]. In PvP, weapons like Recluse and Ace of Spades remain popular choices due to their reliability and performance
[5:1]
[5:3].
Exotic Weapon Highlights
While the focus here is on legendary weapons, exotics like Choir of One from Episode: Echoes are worth mentioning for their unique abilities and impact in both PvE and PvP scenarios [2:2]. Additionally, Sunshot has seen a resurgence in popularity due to changes in damage fall-off mechanics, making it a viable option once again
[5:5].
Acquisition Tips
To acquire these weapons, players should engage in various activities such as dungeons, raids, and episodic events. Crafting systems allow for customization of certain weapons, providing opportunities to tailor them to personal playstyles [1:1]
[2:1]. Keeping an eye on vendor offerings and event rotations will also help in obtaining desired gear.
So I just came back after a hiatus, I didn't play Witch Queen or Lightfall so there's a lot I missed out on in terms of good DPS weapons. I see a lot of people talking about Edge Transit or Apex Predator but it seems like those are random rolls so I'm not sure how difficult it would be to acquire them. But I know they added crafting but I'm not totally sure how it works and If i can craft godrolls for these weapons. Thanks anyone for any help.
Rockets are right now really good. I would recommend in the long run trying to get an apex predator with reconstruction bait and switch. In the mean time you can grab an Ascendancy from the exotic kiosk (it's legendary). Use impulse amplifier explosive light. It's good enough for most things.
For granade launcher and sword (because in some cases they are preferred) I would just do some onslaught and try get an edge transit and a falling guillotine. They drop often. Just try get bait and switch on the edge transit.
apex predator is still good. it's craftable, but you missed your chance last week to farm red borders. have to wait until last wish comes back around as the featured dungeon
Apex is awesome but yes it takes a bit of getting. Excellent and easily attainable is the Marsilion-C bought from Banshee. I personally prefer:
Quick launch
Mini frags (augmented drum is good too)
Envious Assassin
Impulse Amplifier
Backup mag
With the right setup you can put out a stupid 32 grenades (I put on double solar reserves) in less than 15 seconds!
Cataphract GL3 is also a solid choice. And can roll with envious/bait and switch. It’s a Trials weapon though so it’s less easy to get a good roll, unless trials are your thing.
You can also go explosive light or cascade point instead of impulse amplifier. I think it’s 8 shots that can be fired off when cascade point I activated? Strong option to run the still hunt combo if you don’t have Apex Predator unlocked.
Easy ones to get from The Pale Heart and craftable are Special Ammo The Call, and Heavy Ammo Pro Memoria.
Apex, Edge, Supremacy, Succession, supposedly The Call.
Long story short I haven’t touched the game since the final shape campaign. Which legendary weapons are the go to’s currently? Can be for both PvE and PvP so I have something to chase
The episodic ritual weapons (from this season’s episode) are all solid with some really fun perk combinations. As usual, rocket sidearms and area-denial grenade launchers are great special ammo weapons. If you played consistently before you took a break and have weapons you enjoy that have subclass vocab perks (incandescent, slice, destabilizing rounds, etc) then you should be fine. Even though you didn’t ask for exotic recommendations, I HIGHLY recommend you use the exotic Choir of One from Episode: Echoes. It’s the only exotic that you missed that I recommend you use.
Edit: the weapons from the Vespers Host dungeon (especially the heavy and special GLs) are very good
rocket sidearms and area denial frames in general, and then everything that drops from vog is a good start
Anything that has ability synergy loot doesn’t really matter anymore
All of them. Kind of the entire point of the game.
Last season Banshee was giving away some absolute god rolls as a make good for Weightgate. I can’t remember if they are still available or not but the rocket sidearm from Warlord’s ruin and the GL from Vesper’s host are amazing. You’ll need a clear of both those dungeons but if you can complete the dungeons, do so and grab those guns.
Also not sure when Bungie said the freebies would expire, maybe someone can advise but I’m pretty sure you can still get them!
Welcome guardians to my own Final Shape. My name is u/PandaPaxxy and this has been a long breakdown. Potentially one of the largest to date. If you’re new here I make breakdowns on new weapons and let you know my opinion on what would be the best barrel, magazine, perks and masterwork for each new weapon. You can find last season’s breakdown here and the Into the Light Breakdown here. I am by no means the only guardian whose opinion should matter so please try these weapons yourself and see how they feel.
These weapons will be broken down by how they are obtained, sorted Kinetic, Energy, Heavy and then alphanumerically from there. Please enjoy!
The Final Shape aka Pale Heart weapons
Vendor Weapons - This includes Nightfall weapons
Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris Weapons
Let me know your favorite weapons from this season!
Thanks again! I always look forward to these! I swear I come back to check these like a million times when I get drops and am determining what to keep 🙂 very helpful 👍
Thanks for sharing this Panda, many of us really appreciate your efforts. Will you be updating your DIM / Wishlist file? (or maybe it already has been?)
As a semi-newb to D2 still, how does one view Panda's DIM Wishlist file?
Is it a file I need to download from github and plug into DIM somehow, or, is the info once placed there by Panda show up in DIM? And if so how do I 'enable' his wisdom to I can view it?
Actually you just paste the link to his GitHub file within the settings of DIM.
Was this the voltron (default) one already on DIM that you're talking about?
How can I get the updated copy?
Finally! I’ve been eagerly waiting like it was Christmas Eve!
Happy to help! Thanks for reading!
Oh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Good shit brother <3
Thank you!!!!!
Thanks for reading!!!
At this point... Bungie needs to hire you on the weapons team bro. 😊 🙏
Returning player, I got the Still Hunt on hunter with celestial hawk but for everything else I just have no clue what to use. Every time I come back I go through this struggle, the amount of weapons and methods to acquire them is just totally overwhelming.
I typically just use whatever legendary primary and heavy I have picked up. Anytime I look up videos on best weapons or highest dps they’re all exotics.
What are a handful of good legendaries I should focus on getting? Anything from the arena breach? Or even exotics, are there any must haves?
My list is not exhaustive, but rather covers the vast majority of situations and necessary components of loadouts. There are some weapons which are side-grades or work for specific strategies not listed below. (Ex. Cataphract is a sidegrade to edge transit, but strand). Here’s my list:
Rocket sidearms The Call - TFS destination Indebted Kindness - warlords ruin dungeon
Auto Rifles Khvostov - TFS quest (also has an exotic version) Rufus’ fury - Root Of Nightmares raid No Hesitation - TFS destination
Hand cannons Midnight Coup - onslaught Fatebringer - vault of glass raid Zaouli’s bane - kings fall raid Sun shot - exotic Malfeasance - exotic Wardens law - nightfalls (only needed if you’re a hunter) Ace of spades - exotic Thorn - exotic
Pulse rifles Blast furnace - onslaught Nullify - Salvation’s edge raid Outbreak perfected - exotic (zero hour mission)
SMGs Riskrunner - exotic Calus mini tool - season of the haunted/ banshee Submission - vow of the disciple raid
Sidearms Forerunner - exotic Drang - season of the haunted/ banshee
Scout rifles Hung Jury - onslaught
Bow Trinity ghoul - exotic No denouement - salvations edge raid Leviathans breath - exotic
Sniper rifles Supremacy - last wish raid Succession - deep stone crypt raid Izanagis burden - exotic Still hunt - TFS quest exotic Whisper of the worm - exotic (whisper mission)
Shotguns Heritage - deep stone crypt raid Conditional finality - root of nightmares exotic Ikelos SG - season do the seraph / banshee Tractor cannon - exotic
Trace rifles Agers Scepter - exotic Appetence - season of the wish / banshee Acasias deception - root of nightmares raid
Fusion rifles Riptide - crucible Cartesian coordinate - world drop/ banshee Bastion - exotic
Swords Ergo sum - exotic sword from TFS The other half - eager edge sword from 30th anniversary pack Falling guillotine - onslaught Lament - beyond light exotic
Grenade launchers Mountaintop - onslaught Forbearance - onslaught/ vow of the disciple raid Witherhoard - exotic Edge transit - onslaught
Machine guns Commemoration - deep stone crypt raid Xenophage - shadowkeep dungeon exotic THUNDERLORD - exotic
Linear fusion rifles Euphony - Salvation’s edge exotic Briars contempt - root of nightmares raid Cataclysmic - vow of the disciple raid Arbalest - exotic
Rocket launcher Apex predator - last wish raid Gjallarhorn - 30th anniversary
Hope this helps.
Nice thanks
No prob. If you’re looking for general loot, my suggestion is to start with onslaught as there’s a lot of good loot there. Then move onto TFS destination weapons. Then try and get some raid weapons. Deep Stone Crypt and Root of Nightmares are the easiest raids to do and both have plenty of good loot. Then go for the Vow and Salvation’s Edge when you’ve got a bigger arsenal.
I've also found Graviton Lance slaps hard right now. Been enjoying that quite a bit but I'll have to give ol Outbreak a go.
For just standard PVE, The Call / Sunshot or Graviton / Edge Transit or Pro Memoria is a great all round combo.
What about for more advanced PvE?
I often feel like a dead weight in Nightfalls, Dungeons, Raids. Maybe the questions is more complex than “what gun?”. I know there are builds like the Still Hawk which go over super build, gear, and dps boss weapon but they don’t really go into the primary or heavy you pair with it.
I would aim for this:
The Call Your choice of a kinetic
Then for heavies: Craft a promemoria with recon/bait and switch
Farm onslaught for edge transit with a good roll, look online
Keep an eye out on crux termination for good rolls, it's a world drop, or use gjallahorn
Basically anything from The Pale Heart destination is amazing. The Sidearm, Hand cannon, and Auto Rifle especially
That machine gun goes brrr too
This is my favorite machine gun besides retrofit escapade
Yeah I love the machine gun
The Call is fantastic. It’s a strand sidearm that shoots grenades. It goes in the kinetic slot. Once you get one, you will see why. The Khvostov legendary and exotic are both great as well. The legendary is very customizable. They both take some work to get but I highly recommend acquiring them.
21% delirium from gambit grind. Ace of spades from banshee if you have forsaken. Jotun from black armoury
Recluse, sunshot, any trace rifle really, ace of spades, last word, izanagi, truth. Just to name a few, and you need to do quests, or get a random drops.
Did the buff make sunshot that much better. Loved it in year 1 but it got overshadowed in year 2.
It's always been amazing, but now you have 12 shots, which is really good. Also the damage fall off nerfed the other hand cannons, but the explosive rounds damage never falls off. So it inadvertently got a little buff.
Recluse - Sell your soul to the Devil or reach Fabled in Comp.
Run survival, reach Fabled, get 100 wins in any crucible mode, collect THE Recluse. Profit
I’ve been playing Destiny for about 6 years. I quit playing after beyond light and came back for The Final Shape. I’ve done all the raids except VoD, Deep stone, and GoS. I’m just curious as to what weapons I should be farming for or might be underrated. I’ve got a lot of the metas so I’m mostly looking for overlooked weapons that are fun
Tinashas mastery, the call, midnight coup, lost signal, perfect paradox, supremacy for first slot
Choir of one, VS velocity baton, lord of wolves, lotus eater, nullify, unworthy, le monarque, zaouli’s bane, aberrant action, psychopomp for second slot
Commemoration, retrofit escapade, thunder lord, time lost Hezen vengeance, queen breaker, briars contempt, dragons breath for heavy slot
Some underrated weapons I like include imminence smg, khvostov auto rifle, unsworn trace rifle, ikelos smg
I'd say Praedyth's has power crept Supremacy, though not by much. Still love my Supremacy though.
Oh yeah...? I was pretty excited when I finally unlocked the pattern for praedyth but afterward didn't find a combo alluring enough to displace my RR/FTTC Supremacy....
But I'm totally open to being proven wrong!
Vs chill inhibitor comes w free god rolls from banshee after you do vespers host
VOID: I regularly use Reckless Oracle (GOS) and Corrective Measure (VOG) for volatile void builds
ARC: I’m struggling to find a weapon I like for my arc builds. VS Pyroelectric Propellant (Vesper’s Host) is awesome, but it takes up half the screen. I’m still working on getting volshot on Unworthy (Sundered Doctrine). The fire rate of Vantage Point (Revenant) is too slow for my taste
STRAND: For strand I really like Unloved (Sundered Doctrine) and Scintillation (nightfall)
SOLAR: Literally anything with incandescent is good; there are too many options to list
STASIS: Tinasha’s Mastery (nightfall), Rake Angle (nightfall), Lost Signal (Echoes) are my go to. I usually prioritize stasis as my special ammo weapon
KINETIC: Chroma Rush (Revenant) and Multimach CCX (Iron Banner) are my favorites. Easy to trigger kinetic tremors constantly
This is my mix for PvE
For Arc, my go-to weapons are Nation of Beasts (Dragonfly/Voltshot) and, believe it or not, Subjunctive (SFA/Voltshot). I so very much wish I could get a Pyroelectric with a decent perk combo, but alas...
Tinasha's mastery is iron banner.
Have you tried palindrome for arc? I have one with explosive payload and rolling storm and it's a beast. I was actually surprised how much I like it. It doesn't sound that great on paper.
Psychopomp is also great. Ambitious assassin with runneth over is ridiculous
I agree, but it’s rarely seen around. Its usage rate has also dropped pretty dramatically compared to where it was at when it first came out. But not to its fault really, there are just other exotics that are stronger this season. For example, quicksilver storm is used more than it currently, I assume because of the heavy strand focus artifact perks. But hell even witherhoard is getting used more than it and I used to LOVE witherhoard, it was my baby, but it got nerfed into the ground and then area denial frame GLs came out and just completely pounded it into obsoletion
It's my favorite exotic, useful anywhere an auto rifle and melee can be used. So not top tier content but I do dungeons with it all the time and I'm sure it can do raids besides boss damage
Vault of Glass has a couple BiS slot weapons.
Hezens Vengance rocket launcher
Corrective Measure MG
People really love Fatebringer
My favorite daily drivers are
- The submission
- Multimach with AO and KT
- Imminence
- Unworthy
My buddy uses unworthy. I’ve ran multiple runs of sundered and somehow don’t have it lol I’m going to keep farming for it. Do you know which encounters are more likely to drop it?
Classic banner of war, synthoceps, and Monte carlo. Monte carlo catalyst does insnae damage, about 400k on a melee with synthoceps
...? In no particular order... EDIT: I forgot to mention for PVE.
Outbreak Perfected is a real Swiss Army knife of a primary. It’s an Exotic that really feels worth the slot.
Mint Retrograde is new but its damage output and perk pool are undeniably great. Might be a best-in-slot for Legendary Pulse Rifles in PvE.
As for a third, I’m still partial to the Envious Arsenal + Bait and Switch combo on the VS Chill Inhibitor.
My main build has Mint Retrograde with Elemental Honing and the EA + BnS Chill Inhibitor, so as long as my energy weapon doesn't match my class I can get Elemental Honing x4 and frequent Chill Inhibitor reloads and damage buffs.
This is what I run. That x4 elemental honing does so much damage, then if I have my prismatic grenade ready, I get x5. It slaps hard.
Is microcosm really that good? I’ve got the other two and they’re well worthy of the top spots, never got micro
I personally wouldn't put it at top 3, but it shreds enemies like tormentors (so it's amazing in Encore). Basically, it's extremely good at what it's designed to do, and solid all around against most other targets.
It does extra damage to shields (and tormentors/harbingers since their are coded as shields). You can pair also it with the Bushido set this season for some really good output since it’s a Kinetic heavy. And trace rifles just have excellent ammo economy in general. Plus it’s new gear too
Agree. This is what Ive been running in Edge of Fate with it. https://mobalytics.gg/destiny-2/profile/ca26f6c4-43e7-4dea-bb94-478009e56fc5/builds/ff83c482-7276-40b5-b3d4-79608e6e8c91
Been using it on Mythic difficulty and it's been cooking.
Outbreak, mint retrograde, and one I don’t see mentioned but puts in work is dragons breath.
Dragon's Breath is such a useful weapon. I've been pairing it with a burning ambition/rewind Agape and it allows for some pretty crazy damage output.
Mint Retrograde, Thunderlord (/w catalyst), Mint Retrograde.
Trade one of those mint retrogrades for outbreak and you're golden
I’m thinking my crafted Imperative with Substience + Explosive Payload,Forbearence with Demolionist + Chain Reaction, and Grand Overture as my Heavy weapon, of course I’ll probably end up switching it up as I unlock Prismatic and it’s fragments
I usually will only use the weapons that I get to drop during the campaign but starting loadout will be Midnite Coup with firefly + one for all (if I can get one to drop), Indebted Kindness with beacon rounds + voltshot, and Parasite. Guna start with arc titan with Cannon Brace. But I’ve got a full legendary set ready for when I get a solid exotic class item.
Really depends on what gets changed or buffed, what kind of champs we might have to deal with.
My gut response is le Monarque for gyrfalcons because it makes soloing content much easier and has great damage output. Being able to disappear and reposition when playing new content is a godsend.
Then there’s my trusty quicksilver/suspend strand warlock that has amazing damage and CC and lets me bring my volt shot indebted kindness which has proven to be one of the most clutch weapons in the game.
Finally there’s Titan. Lately been running a devour/banner build with old sterling and buried bloodline. You get banner going, threadlings for damage. Buried gives you devour and weaken for harder enemies. Pair with abeyant leap for more CC.
Really excited to run through the campaign on legend with these builds and tweak as needed.
Ace of Spades
”The Man They Called Cayde” starts playing
I'll probably rock Ace, my crafted Beloved and either my Crux Termination or level 96 crafted Fire and Forget
Bro had to throw in the level lol
I it depends on what gets nerfed, but I suppose Wardens law, Eremite, and Dragon’s breath, because they served me well in the witch queen campaign recently.
Dragon’s Breath is a great pick
MT Recluse Anarchy.
My list would be
I was going to initally write an in-depth explanation for my placement for each weapon but I quickly realized that would have ended up taking way too long unfortunately.
Tearing Penance is one my favs. Doesn´t do high damage but you can cover long distance and have wide range for crowds.
Fiery Zealots second cause they´re actually pretty cool, deal good damage and not very slow for such a heavy weapon.
The zealots probably would have been my favorite weapon if either the canon blasts didn’t have as much knockback on smaller/staggered enemies or if it had more stagger damage against larger enemies.
The high knock back makes it hard to effectively finish the full pause attack chain and use the synergy attack, and it ends aerial combos too which is a shame since it has the best air launch attack in the game.
Against larger and tankier enemies I’d rather use the merciful blades for insane damage or the hammer for stagger, even against ferocious and resilience enemies which the zealots specialize in.
It´s amazing how satisfying are some of these weapons to use.
I love merciful blades too, prob my third option. Fast stabby stabby little knify.
Have you tried making an air combo of Tearing Penance Grappling Hook - Fiery Zealots Air - TP GH - FZ Air - TP GH - Etc?
I haven't tried it myself but i can see there being a theoretically infinite combo going if it keeps the enemy in the air.
Gotta say i used the Sword, Whip, Hammer and Zealots the most cause they feel like the tools to get every job done. The Gauntlet does feel nice in terms of having a counter, tho it sometimes feels wonky. The more i use the bow the more i feel like it is the most useless as sometimes it doesnt seem to track all too well, even with enough enemies around, cause it could have been quite healthy for enemies lurking offscreen. The merciful blades ive seen being used by many to deal damage fast, im almost done with my second playthrough and just NOW am learning to appreciate them
Hammer is great for launchers. And I use them quite a lot
Same. I probably use it way more than I should. It’s my favorite weapon to use against large enemies besides the Knives and it has some insane air combo potential with how effective its launch is.
(Also really good against bosses)
Cant say the overall utility of the Fiery Zealots, but the overall cool factor is max
The Zealots canon synergy attack blowing up everything in front of you if the shot manages to land is one of the most satisfying feelings in the game
Tearing Penance reminds me a lot of Blades Of Chaos from GOW. It doesn't do really high damage but it has great crowd control and the fact that you can pull yourself towards an enemy with it.
Best weapons in Destiny 2: The Final Shape
Key Considerations for Weapons in Destiny 2: The Final Shape
Weapon Types: Familiarize yourself with the different weapon types (Auto Rifles, Hand Cannons, Shotguns, Sniper Rifles, etc.) and their roles in PvE and PvP. Each type has unique advantages depending on the activity.
Perks and Rolls: Look for weapons with desirable perks that enhance performance. For example, perks like "Rampage" or "Kill Clip" can significantly boost damage output.
Energy and Kinetic Weapons: Balance your loadout with both kinetic and energy weapons to handle various enemy shields and types effectively.
Exotic Weapons: Consider incorporating powerful exotic weapons into your arsenal. They often have unique abilities that can turn the tide in both PvE and PvP.
Meta Changes: Stay updated on any balance changes or new weapon introductions that could shift the meta. The best weapons can change with each season.
Recommendations:
For PvE: The "Succession" (a new exotic shotgun) is highly regarded for its damage output and unique perks. Additionally, the "Witherhoard" (a grenade launcher) remains a top choice for area denial and damage over time.
For PvP: The "Palindrome" (Hand Cannon) is a strong choice due to its versatility and high damage. The "Felwinter's Lie" (Shotgun) is also a popular pick for close-range engagements.
For Raids and Endgame Content: The "Trustee" (Auto Rifle) is excellent for sustained fire and crowd control, while the "Succession" can deal with tougher enemies effectively.
