Camping Essentials
A canopy is a must-have for Coachella camping, providing shade and protection from the elements [5:1]
[5:2]. It's recommended to use shade cloth or cargo netting instead of solid tarp walls to ensure airflow and avoid overheating during the day
[4:1]. Additionally, self-inflating sleeping pads are favored over air mattresses for comfort
[4].
Food and Drink Preparation
Prepare easy meals like cup noodles and have fresh fruit on hand for hydration [5:1]
[4]. Freeze water bottles ahead of time to use as ice packs and drinking water
[4]. Utilize grocery shuttles for cheaper ice and food supplies
[5:2].
Security and Safety
Keep valuables locked in your car and hidden from view to prevent theft [2:8]. Ensure your tent and canopies are securely staked down, as winds can be strong
[2:4]. Plastic stakes may not be strong enough; consider using sandbags or metal stakes
[2:6].
Hygiene and Comfort
Shower at night when lines are shorter, and bring necessary hygiene products like toilet paper and hand sanitizer [5:3]
[5:5]. A magnet hook or travel bottles with carabiners can help organize shower items
[4].
Social and Practical Tips
Bring extra beer to share and make friends with neighbors [3:2]. Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and be kind to others
[3:5]. Participate in campground activities like yoga or group runs
[5:4]. If you're attending alone, consider connecting with other campers for support
[3:9].
"Camping, in my opinion, is part of the experience. Maybe not one I would want to experience twice, but glad I did at least once." Lol.
That first line literally destroys the credibility of the writer. "I camped one time and I kinda hated it so let me tell you how to do it like I did"
this will be my 9th time camping...while the amenities of a hotel/airbnb sound dope af...i just cannot bring myself to not camp lol..if im doing Coachella im doing it for 4 days straight and not leaving the grounds
I'm coming up on year 8 and I'm in the same boat. My coworker told me the other day he's going and said I should come check out their Air BNB. Told him I've never left the camp grounds except for a beer run.
It truly feels like an escape from reality. Once camp is set up, I can feel all the stress leave my body.
Coming up on my 5th. Honestly Camping IS Coachella for me. It's what makes it feel like a whole different world.
People always ask me why I want camp, and I say I wouldn't want to do it any other way.
But no one ever tells you it’s hot at Coachella!
In case you didn't read it:

"HERE’S HOW TO KEEP YOURSELF COOL:
Bring cool towels. It will keep you cool for hours."

Sorry OP, but this had me in tears.
>Bags of ice are expensive. $10 expensive. Trucks drive around the campsite for convenience but you most likely have to flag them down.
Proceeds to link to a $350 cooler as your solution to expensive $10 ice bags.
the yeti link made me lol
Didn't you know there is only one act on every night? If you don't like em there aint shit else to do at chella, might as well have a nice shower. /s
I wanna make more funny comments but I’m too busy laughing hahaha
Didn’t even have to click the link, y’all summarized all the great facts for me lol
I’ve been camping at the previous 6 Coachella’s but still learn something new about making camping efficient/fun/comfortable every year...
want to get a start on preparing over the next few weeks versus week/days prior and still scrambling in Indio hours before.
Just name a few of mine:
— no tent needed, give me canopy and tarps/sheets to keep the air flowing all night and morning
— prepare a decent Thursday dinner (usually prep night before) because rest of the weekend may be Spicy pie, protein bars or pb&j.
— Only need one, maybe 2 powerbanks (at least 20,000mAh)if you’re going to phone less than usual. AVOID power stations at camp for the most part.
— collapsible water canteens vesus bottles because I don’t want bulky when empty if I’m dancing, but insulated water bottles keep it cold.
— pick up plenty of $1 solar lights from dollar store to find your car easier at night...i say plenty because it MAY be stolen/destroyed
— don’t forget koozies or insulated koozies for your beer/soda/sparkling water
— earplugs for the festival and sleep comfortable at night
— eyemask because the brazen sun can wake you at sunrise
— games to pass the AM or early afternoon at camp
— create/find playlist to listen in downtime
— decant alcohol that are sold in glass into plastic bottles or collapsible flasks
— Zipfizz or any other electrolyte powders/tablets often!
— make your beds before heading into festival for the night, wonderful to just pass out when I get back.
— wear PJs or breathable clothing from shower facilities, gets toasty walking back
— always use toilets furthest away from entrance, likely to have TP and splatter
If youve camped at literally any other festival, camping at Coachella is like booking in at the ritz, so don’t ever think it too much. I was way too overprepared.
Electric Forest has a way better camping situation
Not sure which EF you went to but 2015 camping was a giant cluster compared to any Coachella I've ever been to. No order at all, cars driving around everywhere even after setting up, looking for their friends. I had to drive around to find group camping because there were no signs or staff directing us. $10 showers with cold water. No activities during the day. Good thing we had group camping though because arriving at "gates open" would have meant camping in Blueberry and walking 30 min to the entrance. EF fest was great, but if I ever go again I'm getting VIP camping for sure.
I know I was over prepared with food/drinks handful of times...Otherwise a comfy, reasonable setup makes camping a breeze!
I never pack a huge bag of clothes, usually carry on size or backpack...and only 2 comfy pairs of shoes as a gal...i’m here to dance and party, not be picturesque.
Idk but this is my first time at Coachella, and I'm car camping. So I'm hungry for any kind of information. Yes I've used the search bar. Yes, I've even researched blogs lol.
I'm just so nervous and excited.
Last year was my first time. You’re gonna have so much fun, just be prepared by reading these kinds of threads. One key piece of advice I’ll give is to make sure you stake down your tent and canopies very securely. It can get super windy out of nowhere so you don’t want your weekend home to blow away.
See you on the fields!
But also make sure you have plastic stakes which are frequently not strong enough to hold down a canopy. We’ve been using sandbags the last couple years which have worked fine.
If you do go the metal stake route make sure they’re tucked away hidden when you go through security and that you are extra diligent about taking them all with you when you leave.
I bought like 3 different types of plastic stakes because I'm not well versed in camping or outdoorsy stuff. Call me the queen of over packing lol.
Freeze water bottles for your cooler. Also, if large enough, freeze a gallon jug of water.
Begin the freezing process a week or two before.
yes! Not 2 nights or night before like I’ve done a few times
Make sure 100 percent keep all extra money and important stuff in car and lock it. Don’t leave it in tent.
Make sure it’s hidden in car as well.
Melatonin to help sleep
Welcome. Don’t try to stay with a group of more than 2-3. You’ll waste all your time waiting for people. Pick a pole or general region for each stage that you’ll always try to watch from, and your friends will know where to find each other. Going early is better than staying late. Sometimes security won’t care about a couple cans of unopened beer if you hold them in your hand as you go through (not in bag). Find the speakeasy. The dust will fuck you up in more than one way (I may have gotten valley fever this year, not sure). Stay as close to the shuttle line as possible. Don’t camp (controversial, but I’ll die on this hill). If you get to a stage 5-10min before a set, you’ll almost always get a good spot. Main stage cut in from the sides, don’t push in from the back. There’s often more room at the front than you realize. There’s always room at the front right of outdoor theater. The food is almost always mediocre and they stop serving earlier than you’d hope. Don’t plan on eating late. Don’t skip Antarctic stage. Merch is bullshit, so we go at gate open on day 1 and take everything back to our hotel, then back to the fest. The RV style bathrooms flush on the floor with a pedal. Expect to spend $150/day to stay drunk, if that’s what you’re into.
I’m actually going alone and camping in a rental car 😂 I’m coming from the east coast and can’t really afford a hotel on top of the initial price. I dont care about staying drunk but I am allowed to bring my own food right?
Also don’t bring a whole kitchen, have a way to heat water and have easy and clean things at your campsite, ie uncrustables, pasta where you just need to add water, and always make sure you bring your canopy low before you leave everyday! The wind will take it away and they might damage your neighbors cars. Also bring extra beer for your neighbors and make friends!
Hmu closer to the fest, you can keep a cooler at my campsite and probably even crash there if you need, I have an incredibly welcoming and experienced group
Check out Shadow Hills RV park if you have to camp. You’ll get a pool and showers. It gets pretty wild over there during the day too. Lots of fun.
Yes! I would recommend something I call the Coachella McGriddle. It's basically rolls, ham and cheese cuts from the grocery store, condiments, and hard-boiled eggs (either from the store or grocery store). They are filing, delicious, and honestly can hold you off till lunch if you're not someone with a super big appetite. Costco Muffins/Danishes are also very clutch as well.
Cmon don’t tell people not to camp, that’s bunk, let them do what their going to do and decide for themselves, I’ve camped 20 times and will camp 20 more
This guy Coachellas. Just fucking print out this comment and take it with you OP
I camped and it was the hottest Coachella I may have ever been to - certainly far more drained.
It's nice to have AC, a bed, and a shower.
Go to the sets you want regardless of your groups, wear a mask as often as you can, drink lots of water, don’t be afraid to go listen to something you don’t know if you have nothing else at that time, be kind to others, test your drugs, go to merch when gates open, get ready to walk tens of miles a day, wear sunscreen, dance, have fun, try to visit the art and exhibits, check out Yuma at least once, do lab in the day time, use this Reddit as a guide for help, figure out where you’re hiding your drugs before you go through security, make friends, and once again be kind to others
Don't be a dick. It is everyone's Coachella, not just yours.
Wish I would have seen this lmao. Went my first time this year and was dying
Stick as many full water bottles in the freezer today. They’ll act as ice and drinking water.
Ditch the air mattress and get self inflating sleeping pads. Did this 3 Coachella’s ago and have never looked back. I got a cheap one from Amazon.
Cup of noodles at night game changer especially when we’ve had super cold nights.
Bring at-least one tarp just incase it randomly rains.
Don’t over bring snacks and food. Utilize the bus for groceries runs if needed.
Magnet hook for you shower stuff
Bag for clothes and towels when you shower
Bucket to wash your hands
Harbor freight/ Walmart are my go to for supplies
See y’all in the fields
Adding:
If you set up walls on your canopy, use either Shade Cloth or Cargo Netting so you still get airflow into your campsite.
The solid tarp style side walls that sometimes get sold with canopies will make you (and your neighbors) so much hotter during the day unnecessarily.
If you want to use tarps, run a string through some clothespins to make a "curtain rod" across that side of the canopy, and attach tapestries or a tarp to that. Then you can "open" the curtain during the hot times, and "close" the curtain at night for privacy and blocking wind.
what length do you recommend for the shade cloth or cargo netting? 10x10 or
You should be fine with 10x6 (that covers the full length, and hangs to about 6-12" off the ground depending how high your canopy goes. Generally the bottom of canopies are about 7ft high. So 6ft of wall works fine, you don't need the bottom few inches covered, and otherwise with 10ft walls you'll just have several feet of it puddling on the ground.
The camo netting options are different so I don't know you can find one 10x6, mine was more like 10x10 or 10x12. So it puddles at the bottom of well.
I have come to prefer the camo netting in really hot places, as it lets more air flow through.
But the shade cloth is a nice balance if weather is like high 80s as opposed to high 90s, and it is easier to fold up neatly for next time.

And when the winds blow at night plastic tarps can be loud. Cloth or netting is better.
great tip here the cargo nets are CLUTCH
It doesn’t take weeks for water to freeze, no need to take up your whole freezer at this point.
the longer you freeze the ice the longer it will stay frozen in ur cooler!
I thought that too lol, we still got four weeks to prep, i'd probably freeze mine a week before
Trust it takes longer than you think we take 2x Costco packs of water frozen
You looking for camping tips or camping tits?
Add-on/alternative to the magnetic hook - get the travel bottles with carabiners and put them on a lanyard. Saw someone with this setup a few years ago standing in line for the shower, copied it last year. Told my girl she would look like Michael Phelps if she did it.
I’ve been to coachella twice before, both gone with the hotel and shuttle option (honestly I was spoiled with comfort both times) but my friends and I are driving down from Oregon and camping this year! Super excited, I’ve camped at a festival once before but I was wondering from camping veterans what are your top 3 tips for camping?
1.-Canopy (from Costco)
2.- foldable chairs (also Costco) comfort is best!
3.- use the grocery shuttles! They’re running every morning. Cheaper ice at stores, way more expensive at camp. Cheaper food, take a foldable wagon to easily carry all your groceries to and from (they also have these at Costco)
Why tip the ice people
No need for a shuttle pass. As long as you have you’re festival wristband, you’re good.
The campgrounds have a lot of activities in the mornings, yoga, group runs, work outs (I think). I would read into it once it gets closer.
My top 3 camping necessities.
Canopy
Shower before bed
Lots of fresh fruit to snack on that also hydrate you (watermelon, oranges, grapes, apples, pineapple, berries, etc) Cut them up. Put in air tight plastic container. Store in bottom of ice chest.
Honorable mention: clif bars.
showers lines at night that bad ? Or no
If they keep the 24 hours showers open there is little to no line.. at most you might have to wait 5-10 minutes but usually can walk right in. I usually leave the venue, do the silent disco, and then hit the showers
Gonna seem like a silly question. But E Z up is a tent or a canopy? Or both?
Canopy. Definitely a wise move.
Tip #1 use the search bar
Tip #2 canopy
Tip #3 inflatable mattress
make sure your canopy has side shades otherwise light will leak in
This started as a packing list and some tips to give to some first timer friends I'm bringing this time around and I just kept having so much fun adding to it that I decided to expand it into a general Coachella guide (primarily focused on car camping).
Since the lineup is about to drop and the amount of basic questions we've been getting here has really started to ramp up I thought now would be a good time to put it out there and maybe help some people out. I realize that the people who don't bother to read the Coachella website probably also won't read some randos google doc but does the Coachella website give you bathroom strats? Didn't think so!
Please let me know what you think or if you feel I've made any glaring mistakes/omissions.
Spot on. Thanks for reminding me about stuff I already forgot about. Coachella flu is no joke. Caught it after landing and it stuck for 2 weeks. Miserable af.
Sticky this shit and we won’t need my Questions thread as we approach the fest.
This is amazing, first timer going for W2 and this answers so many questions. Thank you!!
SAVED So fast. Thank you!
Thanks for making this! I went to my first Coachella this past year (tent camping), but I learned a few things to consider for next year, like getting a locker and bringing a rubber mallet for the tent stakes.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this subreddit for all the advice and information you've put together over the years! This was my first Coachella (and first music festival ever!) and it was truly one of the best experiences of my life, in large part because I was able to research and learn so much from all of you. Our campsite was especially comfortable thanks to the numerous packing lists and camp setups I was able to find.
In an attempt to pay it forward, here are some tips and tricks we learned:
It's a marathon, not a sprint. Listen to your body and take breaks when you need to. Being out in the sun drains your energy so be sure to refuel and recharge regularly.
Stay plugged into this subreddit throughout the weekend. If I hadn't been monitoring the updates y'all shared about getting into camping on Thursday, we definitely would've taken the wrong route and who knows how long we would've been in line.
Definitely do a trial run of your camp site setup. Our group went so far as to chalk up a 10x30 space in our driveway to see how everything would fit, but at the very least, practice setting stuff up before you arrive. This is even more important if you don't camp regularly.
Bring 2 canopies. Shade is a precious commodity and it's so nice to be able to spread out. Thank me later.
We brought a power bank with solar panels and it was perfect for charging our phones as well as blowing up air mattresses. They're a little pricey, but not having to sit by the charging ports was worth it to us.
The wind is no joke. Make sure everything at your campsite is secured before heading out. You don't want to come back to find your stuff has blown away. The plastic stakes we brought were too big for the canopy feet so we used zip ties to connect everything together, and we used extra large binder clips to attach tapestries and string lights. Fortunately, everything stayed put all weekend.
Having some kind of hanging organizer (like for shoes) is super helpful, especially if you have multiple people at your site. We put a bunch of shared items (i.e. tissues, hand sanitizer, first aid kit) in there so everyone could easily find stuff.
Speaking of multiple people at a site...we fit 4 people in 1 spot (2 in a tent, 1 in the back of the car on an air mattress, and 1 on the back seat of the car). We made it work, but it was tight and I'd say 4 is the maximum number for 1 site to be comfortable.
Bring one of those changing tents people use for showers. We did not do this so we had to get dressed inside our tent which was not ideal (especially with an air mattress). It would have been so nice to stand and get dressed normally rather than awkwardly bending over in the tent.
Don't forget ear protection!!!! Obviously for the shows, but also for when you get back to camp. Our neighbors kept the party going until at least 3 AM each night, but I had no problem sleeping with ear plugs and a sleep mask.
Top off your water whenever you get the opportunity. If you get dehydrated, you're going to have a bad time.
Wear a mask/bandana/gaiter to protect yourself from the dust. Saline nasal spray is also a lifesaver.
You can't truly appreciate how large the festival grounds are until you're there. If you have conflicting sets, it's going to be a challenge to get from one to the other unless the stages are close to each other. Study the map and use the app to plan out each day.
Everyone says this, but it's so true: WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES. Make sure they're broken in before you arrive and always have Bandaids on hand in case you do get blisters. I saw way too many people struggling to walk at the end of the night because they chose the wrong footwear.
Identify your top must-see, cannot-miss acts and be flexible with the rest. We wandered into several sets we never would have planned to see which just made the experience even better. Likewise, if you're at a stage and the vibes just aren't hitting, go somewhere else. Don't go to a set just because someone might bring out a surprise guest. I almost went to see Mustard in case he brought out Kendrick, but I would've never forgiven myself if I'd missed Gaga's set.
Go with the right group. My friends and I have known each other for years and we've done many camping trips together so I knew they would bring the right vibes, but some of our neighbors clearly didn't heed this advice and it really seemed to ruin the experience for everyone.
Be nice!! Thankfully, everyone I interacted with was friendly and respectful, but I know some folks weren't so lucky. Everyone is at Coachella to have a good time and hear some amazing music. Don't be a jerk, be patient, and have fun!!!!
Was my second Coachella, first time camping. Our neighbors were awesome! So fun to talk to and the coolest people. Shout out Laurie & Fonzie!
Love your camp and jealous your planter got through! My discoball got taken during the car search on Thursday 😩 (would have tried harder to hide it if I knew they considered it glass)
Pic of our campsite for reference 😊
I love the hanging plant, definitely adding that to my packing list next year
This was my 6th Coachella and 6th time camping, usually in a group that gets camp sites all together. That hanging organizer will be a damn fine addition for 2026, thank you!
Good call on Gaga over Mustard. Not that I don't like him, mind you.
Glad you had a great first year!!
This is my third year car camping and I am with a group of 7 people total (5 of which have never been to Coachella). Last year my group arrived around 7pm and it took less than two hours to get in and set up our camp and it wasn’t so bad. As my 2025 group was arriving we saw all the posts stating how bad it was but nothing could have prepared us for the chaos. It took about 2 hours to get through security and then there was absolutely no direction after our car was checked. I told the lady at the security check that the two cars behind me were with me too and she actually said “we can’t help you you’re on your own” which I mean they aren’t obligated to help us stay together but in previous years the staff would try to help keep groups together so I thought it would be rhetorical same. After an hour of sitting passed security and no one telling who to go where/ having 5+ lanes of cars all fight to get to the 2 lines where “traffic control” staff members were, campers got out of their cars and started directing traffic themselves (2 out of my group). Then once we got to where these traffic control people were they told us to go in the wrong direction and led my group and a ton of normal car camping cars to the preferred car camping spots. Once at the preferred car camping spots a staff member (bless his soul he’s the best) told us we were in the wrong camping spots and got in his cart and said “wait a few minutes and I’ll get you where you need to be” he then seemed to be ferrying and escorting campers where they needed to go and then came back and personally escorted us to car camping spots with his cart. I try to tip this man but he said “no it’s not about the money it’s about helping people” I didn’t get his name but I’ll never forget him. Hopefully he helped some of you campers too. I’m not sure how car camping was this horrific this year, maybe Chris lake, maybe a secure company change idk. But I hope that man has a tremendous life because he saved us and we would probably still be lost without him
Cart worker is king of Coachella
lmao wow. you know its bad when the guy that simply showed you to your spot has this kind of profound impact on you. Sounds like a rough day. Hope the rest of the fest is good and they get this sorted by w2 bc jfc
Yeah i was probably around these same people, the wait was brutal. Legit 6 hours just teethering a car length every 25 minutes….
Someone should find out his name this magical angel!!
Somebody should find the name of the only person doing his job and promote him to Director of Camp Ops.
Welcome to /r/Coachella!

Asked Coachella some questions about group car camping, hope this helps in your decisions today.
I’m not optimistic that this is going to go smoothly at all lol
my group of 22 cars this year (expecting more next year) just decided to ignore group camping and go with the same thing we've been doing.
Considering how well W1 car camping went this year, I’d be shocked if this ends up not becoming a mess
Lol i'm trying to imagine being the "random car" being placed in the middle of massive group sites. Either you're gonna have new friends for life or you're gonna feel pretty weird.
Sounds like more of a deterrent to planning on spreading out with <10 cars than something that will actually happen.
i don't even understand how it works.
say my group has 20 spots. 14 people show up thursday. 3 people show up friday. 3 show up, for some reason, on saturday.
when do they decide to fill in the unused spot with a rando?
They are going to put you way in the back. No way would they designate premier 10+ camping spots and expect them to not be filled.
First thought when I saw that tent is not available anymore
How will the empty spots be filled by them if the spots have till Sunday to be filled by the group?
Or is everyone in the group required to arrive at some point on Thursday?
Good luck to everyone doing this W1 2026….
This is an absolute mess waiting to happen.
Guys, this is my 5th coachella, and I had never seen such horrible organization for car camping, I've been here hours, just crossed the security check and literally no one is moving, also, I'm with a group of another 2 cars and it's the first time ever, a staff member tells me it might not be possible we camp together (we're literally all together in the line, came together for a reason.
We got into security line at 11pm. Update Have Moved to within 1 car of the “security” tents in 2 hours 40 mins.
Dude it’s been a shitshow got in line at 2:43 didn’t get past security until 8:45. what time did you get in line?
I just hope the shit show doesn't translate to the festival gates tomorrow afternoon.
We’re here losing our minds. No idea what the actual fuck is going on.
Just park where ever you want. Their aren’t employees ushering ppl around
No wonder people aren't able to park together, what a disaster. Absolutely no excuses for GV here. People pay a lot of money for Coachella. For them to drop the ball this hard on something they've obviously already had figured out for a long time is fucked up and embarrassing.
I’m not religious- but imma pray for you homie, cause that sounds like no-fun.
Sincerely wish you the best 🤞🏽
