TL;DR
Essential Items
When preparing for Coachella, there are several must-have items that will enhance your experience. A hydration pack is highly recommended to keep you hydrated throughout the day, especially if you're planning to spend long hours at the festival [1:2]. Comfortable shoes are crucial as you'll be on your feet a lot; many suggest Adidas Ultraboosts or similar options
[1:2]. Sunscreen and lip balm with SPF are necessary to protect against sunburn
[1:1]. Earplugs are also advised to protect your hearing from loud music
[1:11].
Dust and Weather Preparedness
Coachella can be quite dusty, so bringing a bandana or mask is important to prevent inhaling dust [2:3]. The weather can vary significantly between day and night, with temperatures dropping in the evening. Packing a hoodie or light jacket to store in a locker can be a lifesaver
[1:4],
[2:2]. Additionally, allergy medications like Flonase and Allegra can help manage any reactions to dust
[2:3].
Personal Comfort and Convenience
For personal comfort, consider packing wet wipes, Kleenex, and travel-sized deodorant [1:2],
[2:5]. A portable phone charger is essential to ensure your devices remain powered throughout the event
[2:2]. Some attendees also recommend baby powder to stay fresh in the heat
[1:4].
Clothing Tips
Comfortable and practical clothing is key. Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics that can be layered, such as linen or cotton [4:1]. Consider bringing a hat or visor for sun protection during the day and scarves or blankets for warmth at night
[4:1]. If you're planning to take photos for social media, some suggest wearing trendy outfits initially and then changing into more comfortable attire later
[4:2].
Additional Resources
For those seeking comprehensive packing lists, there are numerous resources available online. Reddit threads and Google Sheets often provide detailed checklists tailored to both camping and non-camping attendees [5:1],
[5:2]. These can serve as useful guides to ensure you don't forget anything important.
Not camping so don’t need any camping necessities unless it’s useful as well inside the festival.
Also going weekend 1 and neither I or my friend have received tracking info on our tickets yet. Normal?
This is what I would consider essential. Don't bring too much in because you have to carry it around all day:
-Hydration pack (like Camelbak MULE or smaller. Pro tip: trim the tube so its not super long and buy a mouthpiece cover)
-Comfortable shoes (Adidas Ultraboosts are great) & good socks
-Kleenix (doubles as TP when they run out)
-Wet wipes (like individually packaged ones like Down There Wipes and Wet Ones)
-Lip balm
-Festival ear plugs (these are so important)
-Bandana or mask (for when it gets super dusty)
-Large hand fan
-Portable charger & cable
-Phone leash (so phone doesn't get pickpocketed)
-ID & credit card
-Sunscreen
-Hat & cheap sunglasses
-Thin long sleeve or beanie (only if you get cold at night)
-Optional - small spray bottle (this is soooo nice when its super hot)
*Organize all the small items in a clear ziplock bag so its easy to get thru security and find stuff*
Before going in each day:
Take allergy pill & take hydration supplement (like nuun or liquid IV)
Also a first timer here - so do you just carry all these items around with you the whole day? Or do people usually store them in lockers?
If you can, get a locker. Put a hoodie and other *essentials in there. It will be hot af during the day but a hoodie at night can save you if you're sweatin' it out and it drops into the 50s at night.
Also, bring baby powder. It's a life saver out there.
Everything this person said ^ plus I always end up buying some eye drops since it gets so dusty
A lot more of this stuff is optional depending on what you consider essential comfort items and your plan for sets. i.e. you don't need a hydration pack unless you plan to camp at a stage (which is VERY MUCH unnecessary - closer does not equal better, just show up early for a set you're anticipating).
For me less is more. It's spf chapstick; thin jacket around waist; earplugs; mask; wallet; gum; travel-sized sunscreen for us white boys; plastic water bottle that you can stuff into your pocket when you're between refills.
All that stuff fits in my zip pockets or small fanny pack. Dress for comfort and the weather. Don't be that person lugging a giant backpack through a crowd - it's annoying for you and for those you hit with it, just get a locker at that point.
I got mine from ACS custom. Expensive but so worth it if you go to lots of shows. (and won't lose them)
They're custom fitted and diminish quality less than any other ear plug I've tried
You can get them on Amazon - I prefer the Etymotic ear plugs. You can also directly order them on their site.
I 1000% agree this is the best thing to have at a festival, ever.
Professional ear plugs. Trust me. Best money I’ve ever spent.
Ear plugs are for people who don’t have fun
Never forget your towel.
Alchohol Cocaine Molly Weed Shrooms Water
On Monday I decided to finally experience Coachella so I binge watched a bunch of TikTok’s recommending what to bring with you into the festival itself.
Am I missing anything? Or any suggestions?
And a mobile charger. Keep that dust mask in your bag. Winds can pop up anytime.
completely agree w this. i had a great one thx to my mom bc i didn’t have one of my own, i was able to charge mine and my friends completely w still like 80% left in it. only had to charge it on the last night (saturday) and i got back to camp around 4am
Yup - wear your bandana everywhere (even if you think you’re good - you’re not!)
Don’t forget Flonase & Allegra or some type of allergy med
Steroid inhaler in the morning & evening
Great tip on the proactive use! Fortunately I rarely need to use it but for events I always bring it just in case. The dust is my biggest concern if I’m being honest
I didn’t understand the importance of the bandana/mask my first year and relied heavy on my inhaler day 3. Make sure you’re doing what you can to keep that dead grass out of your system!
Advil > Tylenol other than that pretty solid .. if you want to go crazy add a mini deodorant stick
The travel deodorant is a must. Not just for you but for us.
Yes and if you have a severe attack the medic tent may be able to provide a nebulizer treatment
Omg I’m so thankful for whoever fanned me down while feeling really short of breath during Muni Longs set. He was fanning his girlfriend down and I’m like “ omg can u please do me next I don’t feel well” and they obliged. I pulled my inhaler out and their eyes got big as I was saying “ I was hustling to make it to this set early to post up and I think I overdid it” - they comforted me. It was really nice. Reminds me why I love our Coachella community so much. We always got each others’ backs. ❤️❤️❤️
it ain’t easy being wheezy. almost fucking suffocated saturday night lol. got back to my tent after day 2 and was like man i don’t feel good but idk why cause im sober and hydrated and… oh. puff inhaler ohhhhhh
Ahhhhh! I actually packed it and forgot to put it in my festival bag. Thanks for the reminder!
Earplugs 100% needed
Now that we are officially one month away from weekend 1, figured I'd bring this back for this year!
I compiled a Coachella Festival/Camping Essential list to help out some people I'm going with that are first timers. Figured I'd share it here! I've attended/camped at almost every Coachella (and many other festivals) since 2014 so this list is entirely structured to my experiences and recommendations. This may not apply to everyone, but it could be a GREAT guideline for newcomers and first timers :)

Life saver.. thank you.. sharing with my group
ofcourse!

First timer here:) I know you can wear whatever but I just would like to get a sense of what you plan to wear or wore in the past.
depends if you want to take pics and boast for the gram wear whatever you want take pics early , once you got the pics you want , switch clothings to what you would wear on a 3 day mission during WW2. Something light/heavy,comfortable,warm/cool. Basically something that will protect you from ALL the elements. Some sort of mask to prevent the most dust / sand getting in your lungs
I thought you meant you would wear Depends 😂
Anything comfortable for the day cause it’s hot and prepare for it drop 30-40 degrees at night with high winds
Sleeveless death metal and tie dye shirts with cargo shorts. I'm a bit of an influencer.
Don’t forget your Bud Light Lime.
One in each cargo pocket.
Don't threaten me with a good time
and your thicket
Cut off army shorts, vest with no top under, and crocs with socks.
i usually go for trendy, practical, and comfy. shoes are important, i wear platform docs that are really broken in. i stick to clothes that are light but can be layered (linen pants, linen shirt, silk, crochet, denim shorts, if dresses/skirt i put like bike shorts under). i also like long socks i can scrunch up during the day and pull up to cover my legs by night since it gets colder if my legs r exposed. bandanas. scarfs for night time. camelbak. sunglasses. hat/visor. mask. last year i got a coachella blanket i wrapped around myself!! it gets windy at night. also helpful to have a locker to store different night time stuff, put away daytime stuff.
edit: grammar
Hi all!
I bet there is a thread somewhere for this but wondering if someone could point me (as a newbie to coachella and reddit) to where I can find all y'alls wisdom on what to pack and bring in with me! Thanks a million!
Lot of people have camping checklists. you can search for them in the search bar. Heres one:
Thank you!
Anyone have any non camping checklists?
Was also wondering the same!
First time at Coachella! Do I need a jacket or something warm at night? I see it gets cold out there but jw what peoples experiences have been. Not camping.
dress cool for the day, keep a sweater in your backpack/hydration pack for the night. i don’t tend to get cold at night during sets because you’re packed in with other bodies, usually dancing and moving so it doesn’t feel so cold. it’s really just the walk back to camp that’s a little chilly, i didn’t need my sweater last year W2.
A sweater is highly recommended. The desert gets cold at night. Even a good long sleeve will do
It gets a lil chilly and breezy. Bring a jacket/hoodie, & if you don't wanna bring one you could buy one but they're normally expensive & the merch lines are long
YES - definitely recommend bringing a jacket/ sweatshirt/ etc
Its cold at night when you are walking stage to stage and when you are making your way back to your car/uber/shuttle. It is not cold when you are in the middle of the crowd at a set. Something warm and light that u can carry around all day or in your bag.
Bring a bandana or mask, walking at the end of the night is more dusty than in the day.
This started as a packing list and some tips to give to some first timer friends I'm bringing this time around and I just kept having so much fun adding to it that I decided to expand it into a general Coachella guide (primarily focused on car camping).
Since the lineup is about to drop and the amount of basic questions we've been getting here has really started to ramp up I thought now would be a good time to put it out there and maybe help some people out. I realize that the people who don't bother to read the Coachella website probably also won't read some randos google doc but does the Coachella website give you bathroom strats? Didn't think so!
Please let me know what you think or if you feel I've made any glaring mistakes/omissions.
Spot on. Thanks for reminding me about stuff I already forgot about. Coachella flu is no joke. Caught it after landing and it stuck for 2 weeks. Miserable af.
Sticky this shit and we won’t need my Questions thread as we approach the fest.
This is amazing, first timer going for W2 and this answers so many questions. Thank you!!
SAVED So fast. Thank you!
Thanks for making this! I went to my first Coachella this past year (tent camping), but I learned a few things to consider for next year, like getting a locker and bringing a rubber mallet for the tent stakes.
Hi. I’m a 26YO M.
I’ll be attending the first week of Coachella, and honestly, I was surprised by the first question people ask when I mention it: “What are you wearing?” or “Did you pick your outfits yet?”
I didn’t realize this was such a big thing… I’m mainly going for the music and the vibe, not to be part of a fashion show. But I get it, festival fashion is a whole culture (part of the vibe too). So, here I am, turning to Reddit: What should I know? Any tips for balancing comfort and style without going over the top?
On a side note, what are some of the craziest outfits you have seen at the fest? Maybe i’ll get inspired.
My first year going to the fest I was surprised at how many "normal" dressed people I saw. I think it depends which weekend you go.
Weekend 1 is known for all the influencers and brand trips so those people usually go all out with their outfits because they're creating content.
Weekend 2 crowd is usually more lowkey, more so there for the music and festival itself.
I personally always prefer comfort over anything else. You really are exposed to the elements out there, the sun is super strong and it can get very hot. Nighttime gets really cold and windy. I like biker shorts or stretchy material that doesn't dig into my waistband. Flowy clothes are a good idea too. Be sure to wear comfy shoes, something with good support.
And have fun with it! On Friday wear something grungy or sparkly for Gaga, Saturday wear neon green for Brat!
just curious do you have GA wristband? because my experience being in the VIP and Artist Guest section is completely different. Everyone in those section is a bit more dressed up (meaning guys are wearing colorful shorts, shirts, hats and sunglasses).
can you wear a plain tshirt and shirt in those section. You absolutely can. But this is that one weekend of the year where you have the excuse to dress a little more colorful than what you would normally wear. If you usually wear black, grays, and white maybe for this weekend you can make an exception and wear a green shorts, leopard print shirt and match it with a statement hat or scarf.
i went to coachella for the first time last year, weekend 1, and I gotta say this whole influencer narrative is completely bunk. i spent 8+ hours a day there and i cannot recall an influencer impacting my experience even once.
like, i guess there were probably influencers there ??? but it just does not matter AT ALL. it's a weird fixation on here.
one guy told me that charlotte de witte isn't real music, gave me a good laugh. maybe he was an influencer but i'll never know.
That’s been the same for me, 0 influencers. They have to make up less than 1% of all attendees. I haven’t seen any of that, but everyone I talk to who hasn’t gone mentions that exact point.
Same. Also the influencers were taking pics by the art pieces or in the field, which had ZERO affect on my actual experience in the crowd.
Once you’re in the crowd.. everyone’s there for a music.
People overhype the influencer thing but it’s really no biggie. They don’t impact you at all.
Thank you!
I’d say priority one is wearing footwear that’s going to keep you in the game. I’ve always been fine with converse but some in my group have had to go other routes.
The past few times my outfit selection has been: On the hottest day I wear white/light colors One day I’ll wear some sort of patterned button up The other day I will wear some sort of graphic band tee or something. Shorts with all except Sunday W1 last year where it was pretty cold. Hats and Bandanas are a great way to add some color to the fit too
Nothing too crazy
you don't get to dictate my festival attire pal
hell yeah!
Omg I think I also saw them at desert air
Did they all have mustaches??
i'm wearing my weinershnitzel hat that i typically only wear for special events
just have fun with it. for me, Coachella feels like a judgement free zone where i can wear things that i dont usually wear. theres no dress code, be comfy but let loose this is a place where you can express yourself :)
Aside from extracurriculars, here’s what I normally carry to festivals : Sunscreen, lip balm, keys, wallet, phone, ear plugs, gum. For evening: leggings, lightweight windbreaker. Wearing a hat. Tissue. Curious to hear what the Coachella veterans would add to this list …
Blister bandaids are a must! Made the mistake of wearing new Docs at a fest once and luckily my dear friend had a pack of these. Wouldn’t have survived without them. Now I always carry them
Bandana are huge, they prevent dust inhalation + you can soak it and use it to cool off
+1 for the butt wipes. They work not just for that but to blow your nose and get them nasty dirt boogers out. Not as rough as tissues. And we pack some electrolytes to mix in a water bottle throughout the day. For ladies I carry extra menstrual items and hair ties just in case.
Butt wipes
Alright this is my shit. In my ziplock I have: bandana, two masks, purell, sunscreen, battery pack, chapstick, mini flashlight, 2 band aids, aaaaaaand 2 liquid IV packets. Some of this goes into my camelback pocket once I get in but this is what I go with.
Mini flashlight! Interesting esp when it get so dark at the end
We’re flying in to camp, so there’s coordination of our camping gear into other people’s cars, making sure everything else fits on a carry-on, and not forgetting shit like my first year!!
I feel like I need to mentally walk myself through the entire trip to make sure I have what I need in the most convenient and efficient way possible and not make a huge mess in the tent.
Anyone else feeling like this now?
This is the first fest I've gone to in awhile where I'm not camping, so like, I have everything I need, but I feel like I'm going to be wayyyy under-packed. Done the same thing of walking myself through leaving the house all the way through returning home and feel like I've got everything I need set aside, but it just feels off not packing my festivals bins, tent, canopy, etc.
Packing stress? Try packing plus longer term planning stress. My wife and I are flying out to Italy for our honeymoon for 2.5 weeks the Monday right after Coachella. So it's like we're planning for everything before Thursday. AhhhHHhHHHHhhhHHHhhHhhHh
Though I know it's going to be amazing once it starts.
I am in a similar boat. Live in Boston, had to fly to Greece this week for a conference, coming home Saturday (18hrs including long ass layover), need to do laundry, repack, and am flying Boston to Palm Springs on Monday.
The jet lag is real and I am worried about falling asleep at 6pm in CA haha. Hopefully arriving Monday will give me time to adjust.
Then I am flying back home and starting a new job week right after Coachella....
holy shit lol. goodluck. thats alot of logistics.
I started making a list a few weeks ago, and I go over it and edit it/add things pretty often. But kind of going off of what you said, thinking about everything day by day and coming up with what you will need that way should help you. Writing things down really helps me, so make lists!
I also like to separate my lists into categories, so I can ensure I have everything I need, and then from there organize all the items by how they will be packed.
similarly? i have two spreadsheets --- one for "things i need to take" and one for "things i have packed and what's in them", and cross-references between the two.
Can you come pack for me?!
That is some impressive organizational work!
Of course you're also a member of the spreadsheet packing society ✌
Yes totally! I’ve made lists, I just need to consolidate!
Seriously, the packing anxiety makes me forget MAJOR things:
Last year, my anxiety was so bad that I packed everything, but we got there and I had forgotten to plan anywhere to stay. D’oh!
Year before that, anxiety was so much that I got our flight departure time wrong in my mind... plane left, we weren’t on it. Major D’oh!
Wagers on what will I totally F up this year?
Completely relate. I just realized I forgot to think about shoes!! Ughhhhh
