What Redditors are Saying

Difference Between Coachella GA and VIP

TL;DR

  • General Admission (GA): Access to all stages, general festival areas.
  • VIP: Additional access to exclusive areas like the Rose Garden, better amenities such as air-conditioned bathrooms, shorter lines for food and drinks, but no closer stage access.

Amenities and Comfort

The primary benefits of a VIP pass at Coachella are the enhanced amenities and comfort. VIP ticket holders have access to air-conditioned bathrooms, which some attendees consider a significant upgrade from the portable toilets available in GA areas [1:1], [3:4]. Additionally, VIP areas offer more seating options, shaded areas, and generally shorter lines for food and beverages [2:6], [4:1].

Exclusive Areas and Experiences

VIP passes grant access to specific areas that are not available to GA ticket holders, such as the Rose Garden and certain bars [1:1], [5:1]. These areas are typically less crowded, providing a more relaxed environment. However, it's important to note that VIP does not include access to the front-stage viewing areas, which remain the same for both GA and VIP [2:5].

Cost vs. Value

Many attendees feel that the additional cost of a VIP ticket may not be justified by the perks offered. While some appreciate the added comfort and convenience, others argue that the benefits do not warrant the higher price, especially if stage proximity is a priority [3:5], [5:3]. For those who value time and comfort over money, VIP might be worth it, but for others, GA can provide a similar experience without the extra cost [3:3].

Social and Age Considerations

For older festival-goers or those who prefer a more laid-back experience, the VIP areas can offer a respite from the bustling crowds of GA [1:2], [4:1]. The decision often comes down to personal preference and budget, with some attendees willing to pay for the additional comfort while others prioritize being with friends in GA [4:3].

In conclusion, choosing between GA and VIP at Coachella depends largely on individual priorities, such as comfort, budget, and the desire for exclusive experiences. If the added amenities and exclusivity align with your preferences and financial situation, VIP may enhance your festival experience. Otherwise, GA provides full access to the music and atmosphere at a lower cost.

It’s worth it if you can afford it and you’re into your 30s or older. Physically coachella can really wear you out. The amenities are really clutch not to mention the much faster entrance and exit. Celeb sightings too if that’s your thing. Also, they expanded the the footprint of the VIP this year so there’s that

This. For some people it’s not worth it. But this is my 8th Coachella and I also just turned 30… it’s worth it for me. I enjoy shorter bar lines, shade, places to sit, less crowded restrooms. I don’t go into the crowd in front of the stage anymore anyway so it works

Yup that part about being 30 year old. I realized at day n Vegas I was no longer cut out for the regular GA and need some extra perks with my experience

Yea, I mean each festival is different, right? Most other festivals it’s not worth it but Coachella is just soo massive. As I’ve gotten older, I’m willing to splurge in that regard for piece of mind. I mean when I was in my 20s I was a tank. Now I gotta take periodic breaks to stretch my back lol. If you’re really plugged up though, there’s VIP area inside the VIPs. Some perks can’t be bought though

Vip is extremely overrated theirs certain sections they only have access to but when I did it most of the time is spent in the crowd in ga section cause you can’t really get close to the stage. The perks of it they have their own entrance in to the festival, bars, nicer bathrooms, and water lines but to pay double the price for it not worth it

My gf and I did VIP in 2019 here is what you really get: access to the rose garden, siting areas, some exclusive food (not all that) you might see famous people there, we saw david dobrik and other famous youtubers and viners. Access to other bars and shade, the viewing area for main stage is not worth it you are better off in the general admission area if you want to be closer. Also maybe the best part is better bathrooms than portables. My gf and i only went to the vip are if we were near it or if we wanted to chill in a leas crowded area.

VIP isn't worth it. The VIP area, which doesn't get you into the viewing areas in front of the stage, can get so packed at night that it's basically impossible to walk around. There are bathrooms with AC, but now that exists elsewhere as well for GA people. It basically gets you a few more food options and a beer garden area slightly closer to the stage.

Big advantage of VIP is the more relaxed security and security lines. When I went through GA they were very aggressive.

Strong disagree about it being crowded. VIP always has space. Plus a full bar, less lines for food and bathrooms. However, don’t expect any upgrade in viewing.

VIP has more food and drinks and ac’d bathrooms and sitting places and chargers. You don’t get closer stage access.

VIP if you’re going to spend more time at the main stage. Better bar, food, bathroom situation. It doesn’t do you much good anywhere else. Oh, and quicker access through the gates. You don’t get much of a better view, but there is typically more space and a little bit of elevation to see over the crowd.

VIP is worth it if $1000 isn’t a ton of money for you. If you are scraping together $1000 it may not feel worth it. If time and comfort are more valuable than money it’s a solid deal.

Safari on the other hand, gets you the upfront viewing and the golf cart access to zip between stages and totally worth it.

VIP is great for people watching and functional bathrooms. An added bonus is sometimes the vip entrance line is quicker. Generally the food and drinks in VIP cost a bit more than in GA, although the offerings are fancier. Is it worth the price upgrade? Meh. I paid for it one year, and got it free another year, it’s whatever, if it’s cheap and you have the cash why not. But don’t like, max out a credit card or something to get it.

Objectively VIP isn’t worth it for most ppl but it’s worth it for me. I liked the short walk from the shuttle stop to the festival (no security lines usually), the shaded areas, and short (or no) lines for food / drinks. There are barely any lines for the bathrooms too. The rose garden is gorgeous (personal fave) and it’s just a lot more relaxing imo. I’m too old for GA and VIP is way more chill. YMMV :)

Yeah - I never recommend it to people but my wife and I always go VIP. Rose Garden at golden hour is a key part of the experience for me.

Plus the AC in the bathrooms can be a lifesaver.

The only real reason to get VIP is if you really like flushable toilets and a couple of less crowded, shaded areas. In my opinion it’s very overpriced for the mild perks you get.

That really all depends on the time, stage and act. It gets generally gets more packed the later it is and for the big names.

I would recommend posting up in front of the ADA platforms, the soundbooths (when the crowd is thin), or on main/outdoor in front of the Speaker tower wells which have a barrier around them. Basically try and have something behind you so people aren't pushing through your group from the back.

FYI all the speaker towers are labeled (A1, A2, B1, etc.) so they make good meeting spots. Just be aware that if you pick a speaker tower to meet up at when there's a small crowd there may be a lot of people there during a later act.

Also, if you're sending texts to each other I would highly reccomend time stamping them. Sometimes cell signal isn't the best so you can say you're at ____ and then the person gets it later and you're not there.

Not during the day. At night in some very popular sets it does get tight in the middle and towards the front. Near the back and on the sides there is usually enough space.

VIP vs Regular ticket questions

Posted by jukeboxhero10 · in r/Coachella · 5 years ago

So this is my first time going and I wanted to know is the Vip as useless as it sounds. Aside from better bathrooms there seems to be no actual value. Am I missing something or if you don't value special food stands and vip areas ( I've found that more often than not you can get closer to the stage/ better views in GA) theres no point in getting non ga tickets? The price difference isnt an issue when deciding I just have a pet peeve of over paying for bad benefits.

VIP doesn't get you much. The food, bathrooms, and a couple of VIP areas (rose garden, and next to main stage), that's pretty much it. Some people like being able to take the break from the madness of GA in the VIP areas since they aren't as packed but if that's not an issue for you it sounds like it won't be worth the upgrade.

Totally agree. I've looked into VIP or higher at other festivals and have found Coachella probably has some of the worst perks for the price for their VIP. The real perks only start when you get a Safari tent, but $10k is pretty hard to justify.

Do you mean the any line shuttle pass? If you’re staying off site, I would highly recommend it. They’re very efficient and will save you a good chunk of change over ubering. Also less wait and hassle. Waiting for an Uber after a headliner is rough - everyone is cold and tired, it’s probably windy, and you’re just fighting to overpay for a ride? Not a good time. Take a quick nap on the ride back to your house/hotel and enjoy the turn down.

W1 Comparison 2022 VIP vs. 2023 GA

Posted by GoddessRiverFelix · in r/Coachella · 2 years ago

Well, I got a serious case of the sads today coming off the Coachella vibes and I'm dragging on work... so I figured I would just share some thoughts on my two years since they're both post-pandemic. This is solely on the difference in experience and not about the line up. Someone in VIP last year said it best, "It's not that VIP is BETTER, it's just a different section."

2022 -VIP $1,000 (on payment plan), shuttle pass, stayed at Hyatt Palm Springs

People here always ask if VIP is worth it. I was convinced by a friend it was the only way to get back to the desert since I'm in my 30s and I hadn't been since 2006 (Daft Punk's performance is still living in my mind rent free). I booked early enough that I managed to get the hotel at 12,000 points per night and easily saved $2K on that so my biggest expense was the ticket.

2022 VIP Experience: Since it was the first year after COVID, VIP was oversold to infinity. Jam packed VIP sections that seemed unfinished (ex. Seating areas with uncovered structures that they eventually got done by Sunday), handwash stations with no water and I actually do not think there was a single drinking water station in 12 Peaks VIP bar area (or Rose Garden). The one on the map didn't exist and whenever I spoke to any staff, they played dumb and kept referring me to the non-existent station. As a result of this issue, the bars sold water for $2 instead of $4.

There were no info booths anywhere. No paper pamphlets either as I recall... I also didn't notice any of the Neutrogena sunblock dispensers so is that new this year? Total life saver.

2022 Staff were diligent about checking wristbands but at the same time, they didn't seem to all be properly trained on them. Friday we were able to get into Sahara Artist pass section but they rectified the issue by Saturday and you had to scan in. There was no mention of the VIP entrance to YUMA (I believe this is common knowledge now) so we didn't find out about this until Day 2. The Rose Garden is very beautiful and great for relaxing or photos but again, super full. Took us 2 hours to get food on Day 2 and many stands were selling out of food before 7pm. In the end, it seemed faster to get food in GA areas. I kept thinking, well at least we get the nice bathrooms... but in actuality, there's 3x more regular portos than the nice bathrooms so half the time I ended up just using the regular bathrooms anyway.

In the end, VIP entices you with "separate entrace, more shaded seating, viewing areas, nicer bathrooms and vip-only food stalls" but I cannot say that it was worth the price tag at all. This year I noticed by Sunday that almost no one was checking the wristbands for VIP so it definitely feels like a slap in the face BUT kinda nice for future years if you wanna sneak in for some reason.

VIP might be worth it if... you want to have the separate entrace, camp out at main stage all day and just chill, walk minimally and get direct access to YUMA, this would be the ONLY reason to get VIP IMO.

SHUTTLE: Hyatt Palm Springs commute is 40-45 mins not including wait time or walking to/from the shuttle stops. The shuttle stop is a couple blocks from the hotel (maybe 1/4 mile walk).

2023 GA: Bought ticket from a friend because I refused to give GV any money, shuttle pass ($600 bundle) and stayed at Hyatt Indian Wells

GA experience overall: More water stations than last year and they actually had signage (last year the stations didn't have signs so you'd have to look around for the random areas people huddled at), they had plenty of info booths, paper pamphlets, sunblock dispensers all over, bathrooms seemed to be kept in decent shape and the ones across from Despacio were always clean and accessible. Didn't nope out of a bathroom this year! They also do have the air conditioned trailer bathrooms at the end of almost all restroom areas (so this already instantly removes this as a VIP perk). Never waited in line to get through security, easy breazy to get in from the shuttle area. You'd be at Sahara within 10-15 mins of getting off the shuttle. Outdoor theater and Sahara had updated everything so all the visuals were amazing all weekend. If I ever wanted shade or to chill, Indio Central Market is fully covered with phone charging stations, the coachella stage bar before 7pm also had plenty of grassy seating, and Heineken House was refreshing place to chill out during the day and vibe with music. No lines at all at the bar on Sunday at HH.

SHUTTLE: Hyatt Indian Wells is only 20 mins so easily the quickest shuttle trip, shuttle stop located AT the hotel and it's also one of the very first shuttles and least crowded when you get to the shuttle area. Indian Wells ran me 23,000 points per night though and I booked the Thursday before the festival. I think that only happened because hotels weren't sold out since this year was significantly less hyped than last.

All that being said, if COMFORT is important to you and that's why you're choosing VIP, it's not worth it. I would put my money toward staying somewhere in Indian Wells so that your shuttle is quick/easy and then make it a point to find your chill spots on Day 1 so you always have a place to rest and recover. After these two back to back chellas, I will definitely be GA all the way and trying W2 in 2024 because it seems that's when it's less about the hype and more about the artists. I will miss the grass but feels worth it. Hope this helped anyone considering VIP vs. GA.

I’m not sure a 2022 vs. 2023 comparison is really fair. 2022 was a true shitshow, they had nothing figured out. The food stalls closed before Sunday ended and they ran out of waters. They had HOURS long lines to get a locker that you already had prebooked. For reference, I’ve gone GA in 18,19,22 and had an artist wristband this year. With an artist wristband you get access to VIP, so this was my first time getting to check it out. It was absolutely not worth it. I feel the VIP band is a scam. Either go GA or go for a guest/artist wristband to get the actual VIP treatment that’s worth it, imo.

I’m contrast to your experience, I did GA last year and did VIP this year and will be doing VIP going forward. Like you, I’m also in my (late) 30’s and the VIP was worth it to me because of the way shorter restroom and drink lines, the food selection was better, and the Rose Garden had a chill and somewhat more mature vibe to it then the rest of the festival.

However, I agree with you that it’s not a necessity and I would only recommend it to those that are older and can afford it.

2 upvotes on reddit
GoddessRiverFelix · OP · 2 years ago

I think in general this year has less attendees? Idk if stats for that have been released… I definitely felt more walking room throughout so that could be a factor. Expectation vs. Reality played a big role too… I think I expected it to feel significantly different and it just felt like an equally crowded festival. Surely the fact that last year was the first one post-covid had a huge effect on everything. But I 100% think you’re going into it with the right mindset and expectations versus how I did

2 upvotes on reddit
First_West_4227 · 2 years ago

Yeah it’s definitely not a “VIP” experience and to most it won’t be worth the price. It is overvalued for what the extra perks give you, but totally worth it to me for the reasons that I posted above. And I agree that expectation should be kept low.

This was also my first year not staying in Palm Springs. I stayed at the Embassy Suites in Palm Desert and caught the Albertsons shuttle right next door. The shuttle line and ride back was way shorter than my usual Renaissance Palm Springs ride.

However, I kinda miss not staying in Palm Springs this year. I didn’t get to have my usual huevos rancheros with a michelada for breakfast at Las Casuelas 😏 and I miss not being in the ambience of Palm Springs during festival weekend. Welp, there’s always next year 😀

Got VIP…worth it?

Posted by CJ_PSE · in r/Coachella · 5 months ago

I know I’ve seen a lot of people say VIP isn’t truly worth the price hike compared to GA…and obviously I read on their site what VIP entails, but since this will be our first time at Coachella, I figured I’d ask more experienced people what VIP ACTUALLY gets us.

I’m 29, a very large human being, recently had carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand, and have had right knee surgery because of sports in my HS and college years, so my body kind of shits itself after so many hours of straight walking.

Also, even though I’ve lived in the southern heat for the last 4+ years, I’m born and raised from the northeast, so the heat still irritates me after so long…all that being said, we’ve been to probably 20+ music festivals over the past couple of years so I’m getting a bit more used to it.

Anyway — all that being said, I read that VIP for Coachella is more for the older audience that needs better bathrooms, more shaded areas to relax, and for people that like better food and drink options, all of which certainly fit our criteria.

But like I said, figured I’d ask people who have gone and experienced both GA and VIP at Coachella for their opinions on what we’ll ACTUALLY be getting with VIP…thanks!

EDIT: Dumb question, but like I previously said, we’ve been to a ton of music festivals recently and some differ in this aspect…can we leave and comeback during the day to freshen up/take a break? We rebooked an Air BNB that’s VERY close to the venue, so it wouldn’t take long at all to do so, thank you all!

I had VIP last year and it was not worth it at all. There isnt better anything except for maybe the entrance which was never crowded and had lax security. The VIP areas themselves are far from the stages and have nothing that you couldn't find in GA.

Agreed. Nothing about it feels special or exclusive. Other beer gardens have similar food and enough space to chill.

Spend ya dollars elsewhere.

VIP vs GA

Posted by Puzzleheaded_Elk6227 · in r/governorsball · 1 year ago

Hey guys I’m trying to decide what kind of ticket to get, I’ve gone to Coachella and did the VIP and it was not worth it honestly and I want to know if the VIP is worth it for this festival or should I just stick with GA.

I did GA last year and will definitely be doing VIP this year. Separate viewing area is worth it alone, but it’s also nice to not be in a bigger crowd, which I feel like Gov Ball will have this year. I did do VIP at Bonnaroo last year and that was worth it, with similar amenities.

Personally I think it’s worth it and I’d recommend it if you have the money. You will for sure be closer to the stage with VIP and it’s much more chill than GA. The amenities and private bathrooms are also nice. You also won’t have to deal with the teens as much or at all.

It’ll be interesting to see how the teen population of VIP changes this year now that it’s not 21-plus unless accompanied any more.

VIP is boring for this festival but the perks are air conditioned bathroom private bar cart and merch booth with seating areas and art installations that’s about it

That’s so cap. I did VIP last year and on top of all that they also had a separate section in the front of stages. Artists commented that it was weird but I’m sure it’ll be brought back. I got to see Uzi hella close and was right next to Diplo during Ice Spice.

I did VIP last year because I'm 30 and I have no intrest in getting fucked up next to 13 year olds and having my phone stolen.

Music festivals should be 18 plus

With VIP, is the section next to the stage or directly in front of the stage?

As in you don't need to leave the VIP area to get to the other stages. Actually only 2 stages were in the same VIP area. Just realized the 3rd one was at the far end.

But yeah the gov ball stage & bacardi stage were connected so you could just walk to it without leaving the VIP area.

I did VIP for Sunday and one of the cool perks was how all the stages are connected in the VIP section. So you don't need to leave VIP to get to the other stages. Also the stages are much closer and not as crowded as GA. So you get a better spot and don't have to camp out hours ahead to see the headliner in the main stage. Also I noticed you're less likely to get pickpocketet since pick pocketer aren't going to spend money on VIP tickets to pick pocket people.

Difference between GA and VIP

Posted by Alone-Specific8036 · in r/lollapaloozaind · 24 days ago

I was wondering what are the differences between GA and VIP? I get that there is a separate lounge available in VIP but will there be any difference in terms of the view or sound?

So the VIP area was a little bit behind the general standing area, but the view is quite great. The biggest plus is less crowding there, and separate stalls for food and beverages. Other than that there are no advantages. I got the VIP one mostly to stay a bit away from the crowd.

Difference between Coachella GA and VIP

Key Differences Between Coachella General Admission (GA) and VIP:

  1. Access and Amenities:

    • GA: Basic access to the festival grounds, including all stages and general areas.
    • VIP: Includes all GA access plus exclusive areas, such as VIP lounges, viewing areas, and dedicated restrooms.
  2. Comfort and Convenience:

    • GA: Standard festival experience with limited seating and amenities.
    • VIP: More comfortable with shaded seating areas, upgraded food and beverage options, and less crowded facilities.
  3. Cost:

    • GA: Generally more affordable, making it accessible for a wider audience.
    • VIP: Higher price point due to the additional perks and amenities.
  4. Crowd Size:

    • GA: Larger crowds, which can lead to longer wait times for food, drinks, and restrooms.
    • VIP: Smaller crowds in VIP areas, providing a more relaxed experience.
  5. Exclusive Experiences:

    • GA: Standard festival experience without any exclusive perks.
    • VIP: Opportunities for exclusive experiences, such as meet-and-greets or special viewing areas for headliners.

Recommendation: If you prioritize comfort, convenience, and a more relaxed atmosphere, consider investing in VIP tickets. However, if you're on a budget and are primarily focused on enjoying the music and atmosphere, GA tickets will still provide a fantastic experience.
