What Redditors are Saying

Cuphead Boss Ranking

TL;DR

  • Cala Maria and Chef Saltbaker are popular bosses with varying difficulty opinions.
  • Wally Warbles is frequently mentioned as challenging to S-rank.
  • Airplane bosses are often considered difficult due to their bullet hell nature.

Difficulty in S-Ranking

Several discussions highlight the challenges of achieving S-ranks on certain bosses. Wally Warbles consistently appears as a difficult boss to S-rank, with players expressing fear and frustration [2:1][2:5]. Grim Matchstick is another boss that players have struggled with but found easier once they focused on specific strategies [2:2]. The Devil was noted as one of the longest bosses to beat for S-ranking [4:1].

Fun Factor

The enjoyment of fighting bosses varies among players. Chef Saltbaker is frequently mentioned as a fun boss, with players appreciating the chaos of his first phase [3:2][3:3]. Some players rank bosses based on how much fun they have during the battles, rather than just difficulty [5:1][5:3].

Airplane Bosses

Airplane bosses, such as those involving bullet hell mechanics, are often ranked high in difficulty. Players with experience in similar games like Undertale tend to find these bosses more manageable [4:3][4:7]. Dr. Kahl's Robot, especially its last phase, is highlighted as particularly challenging [4:4][4:8].

Community Opinions

Opinions on boss difficulty and enjoyment vary widely within the community. While some players find certain bosses easy, others struggle significantly. For example, Honeybottoms was surprisingly easy for some despite initial dread [2:8]. Community tier lists reflect personal experiences and gaming backgrounds, impacting perceptions of difficulty [4:2][4:9].

In summary, Cuphead bosses offer a diverse range of challenges and fun experiences, with player opinions shaped by individual skill levels and preferences.

Also feel the same about grim matchstick. Like struggled so much in the main game but one of the easiest s ranks I have done. I struggled with getting the 3 parries the most. Also I got beppi second try

Just finished all the content in Cuphead! Here's my tier list of how fun each boss was to S-tier (with small positive rant)

This game completely took over my life for 3 days straight. What a masterpiece!

Every single boss is not only super fun to fight gameplay-wise, but both the music and the artwork is perfection.

(small positive rant start!) Prioritizing the 'coolness' factor of a boss is a trap I've seen many games fall for, which is not a bad thing in of itself, but it often comes to the detriment of gameplay. And for me personally, good gameplay is a make or break, regardless of how good the artwork and music is. When I started the game for the first time 4 days ago, I was honestly pretty certain this would be the case. Great music and art, but severely lacking in the gameplay section. (which is why I hesitated to play Cuphead for so long)

But I can proudly say that, in my opinion, this game DOES NOT fall into that trap! Every attack looks stylish, but are very well telegraphed, which makes them a joy to learn. You know what to expect at every turn and can plan around it (with very few exceptions). What I love the most though, is how important and rewarding good positioning is. This is obviously personal bias, but I LOVE positioning based dodges and planning ahead (which is also why I love souls combat so much!).

To end off, the parry took some time to get used to, but when I mastered it, it felt great. And in the beginning, I honestly wasn't a huge fan of the plane bosses or the run-and-gun levels, but they really grew on me.

Small rant over, I love this game!

I’ve always had an easier time on airplane levels rather than platform levels

2 upvotes on reddit
SurfandMurph · 3 years ago

I haven't tried S ranks or even expert yet (still stuck on the Devil actually), but same. Probably because the airplane ones are more like classic bullet hell than the platformers, so it just depends on your prior experience which for me is a shit ton of undertale fangames

Strangely enough, I also found Dr. Kahl's last phase easier than his first

2 upvotes on reddit
PipeRamz · OP · 3 years ago

Agree, previous experience in gaming can modify the tier list entirely. The difficulty level also impacts a lot. As example, Grim Matchstick and Rumor Honeybottoms deserve Tier S in Normal Mode.

i really wouldnt count the casino night minibosses and the kings guantlets. You can't technically 'S-Rank' them, plus, they're not even really bosses

1 upvotes on reddit
TheBlargshaggen · 7 months ago

I think Hilda and Beppi should switch places. Hilda is way quicker to beat and most of her attacks are easier to dodge. The phase of the Beppi fight when the roller coaster is going and he rides the carousel horse/donkey that spits the horse shoes always wrecks me. I almost always fail to dodge either the horse shoes or the coaster passengers at least once, and that leaves me in a bad place for when Beppi turns into the carousel and starts spawing the baseball penguins.

Ranking of each Cuphead boss in terms of how tough they were to beat - (Per stage, the ones in the highest tier are the ones I could not beat yet)

I ranked each of them per tier as well but most of them are interchangeable within the tier they are in tbh + yes, I got to beat Cala in 9 attempts, she was easily the least challenging plane boss to me. If I ranked it would be: Cala -> Djimmi -> Hilda (Interchangeable with Djim tbh) -> Wally -> Kahl

Also this is expert and not about S ranking or a special challenge, I did not use any dlc weapons to fight the normal opponents and I did not try Mortimer/Howling Aces/Saltbaker yet.

Djimmi stage 3 has an exploit/cheese that makes you able to beat it without moving, if it was not a thing the stage itself is Handleable.

Imma pray for you when you fight Saltbaker on expert, lmao.

Also, what makes Hopus Pocus harder than the rest of the Dice minibosses for you? Besides the attack where you have to parry the one pink symbol to avoid it (which is pretty easy), Smoke Bomb makes the fight a joke.

Bro, Kahl's 3rd phase is basically wally warbles, but with walls, don't understand what people have problems with, unless the foreground is blocking my view, I dont have a problem with that phase, also Dr. Kahl's arm attack is way easier than people make it out to be

What? Dr Kahl is pretty much standard bullet hell

1 upvotes on reddit

Cagney is ok but no way is he the best boss in the game in my opinion. The fight is the third easiest in the game (excluding King’s Gauntlet) and none of his attacks are really interesting or satisfying to dodge with one possible exception.

His boss theme is good but pales in comparison to others and other than his idle animation he doesn’t have a great deal of charm

Imo hilda berg isn't that bad on regular, but she gets a TON of buffs on expert which makes her hell, and I just hate djimmi because he has so many phases, phase 1 has some stupid ass attacks like the treasure where he throws his entire yard sale at you and phase 4 is hell cuz it's so cramped and so many things are shooting at you at once.

Hardest boss in cuphead

Cuphead tips and tricks

Cuphead gameplay strategies

AI Answer

🤖

Cuphead boss ranking

Key Considerations for Cuphead Boss Ranking:

  1. Difficulty Level: Bosses can be ranked based on their difficulty, which often depends on attack patterns, health points, and the complexity of their mechanics.

  2. Design and Creativity: The artistic design and creativity of the boss can also influence rankings, as Cuphead is known for its unique and vintage cartoon style.

  3. Player Experience: Personal experiences and play styles can affect how players perceive the difficulty of each boss.

Common Boss Rankings:

  1. Sally Stageplay: Often considered one of the easier bosses, with straightforward attack patterns.

  2. Goopy Le Grande: A mid-tier boss that introduces players to the game's mechanics without being overly challenging.

  3. Cagney Carnation: Known for its tricky patterns but is manageable with practice.

  4. The Devil: The final boss, notorious for its high difficulty and complex phases, often ranked as one of the hardest.

  5. King Dice: Another challenging boss with multiple mini-bosses, requiring skill and strategy to defeat.

  6. Wally Warbles: A tough boss with a unique attack pattern that can be frustrating for many players.

Recommendation: If you're looking to improve your skills, consider watching gameplay videos or guides for specific bosses. Understanding their attack patterns can significantly help in defeating them more efficiently. Additionally, practicing with different weapons and charms can also make a difference in your success against tougher bosses.
