TL;DR Dr. Kahl's Robot and Rumor Honeybottoms are frequently mentioned as the hardest bosses due to their challenging mechanics, while other contenders include Chef Saltbaker and Esther Winchester.
Dr. Kahl's Robot
Dr. Kahl's Robot is widely regarded as one of the hardest bosses in Cuphead. The fight involves bullet hell mechanics and a lengthy battle that requires constant focus [3:0]
[4:7]. Many players struggle with the first and third stages of this boss, finding them particularly exhausting
[4:1]
[4:6]. Despite being a challenging normal mode boss, some players find him manageable on expert mode
[4:3].
Rumor Honeybottoms
Rumor Honeybottoms is another boss that players often cite as difficult. The random gaps between platforms during her fight add an extra layer of challenge [3:8]. Players have expressed frustration with her unpredictable patterns and the difficulty of navigating the moving platforms
[3:9].
Chef Saltbaker
Chef Saltbaker, particularly on expert mode, has been highlighted as a tough opponent. Players have spent significant time trying to defeat him, indicating the high level of difficulty [1:3]
[5:5]. The complexity of his phases and the precision required make him a formidable foe.
Esther Winchester
Esther Winchester is noted for her difficulty, especially by those who haven't yet faced Chef Saltbaker [5:5]. Her patterns and attacks require careful timing and strategy, making her one of the harder bosses in the game.
Other Challenging Bosses
Other bosses mentioned include Grim Matchstick, Beppi, and the Devil, each presenting unique challenges [2:2]
[3:4]
[4:5]. While not universally agreed upon as the hardest, they still pose significant challenges for many players.
Favourite boss, by far. The music slaps, the design is interesting and the mechanics are different. Studio MDHR went ham with this DLC
Chef Salk baker expert is harder, I’ve been trying for an hour
howabout HA (Howling Aces) expert, is that harder?
No not for me at least
Nah the cow imo
Camera rotation gave me a hard time for a good 10 mins but then I suddenly popped off
spent like 40 minutes on it when i did literally every other boss in less than 10 attempts 💀
Bro just wait till Dr Kahl, beppi and grim
Beppi was easy for me. Other two are hard tbh
I don't understand why so many people find him hard. He's one of the hardest imo, and S ranking him ways a nightmare, too. Too much RNG that can ruin your run in the third phase. Grim is one of the easiest bosses with the right weapons (Charge and Lobber) and Dr. Kahl is fun and not as hard as many claim him to be imo. Eben S ranking him felt like a nice and fair challenge.
Bro Beppi broke me
Beppi? Grim? Why
Extremely difficult for most beginners
The difficulty of this boss fight greatly depends on the minions she sends out. I loathe the candy corn and waffle, the rest are no problem.
Just keep on trying, eventually you'll get a combo of sweets you can get through easily.
I beat her on expert last week. I got lucky with the gumball, cupcake and jawbreaker combo - they're the easiest to deal with IMO.
yea the muffin is really easy but honestly this might just be me but the candycorn isn’t really that difficult for me the jaw breaker is what gets me half the time it’s the little one behind him
I just beat this and candy corn and waffle were always the ones I’d hope she’d send out. Their patterns were so predictable. If I got cupcake as second or third (first was like a freebie for me though), or jawbreaker… ugh I might as well have given up then lol.
Gumball is a punk tho.
im about to do this boss on my third playthrough
Wait till you get to the robot my friend
Amazing that you actually took a pic of the split second we can actually see this cupcakes face
For me, the hardest boss, also the one I spent the most time on, was Dr. Kahl's Robot. The bullet hell mechanics combined with the long nature of the fight made it a real pain for me.
What inspired me to make this thread was seeing a top 10 video where someone listed the Devil as the hardest boss in the game. While fun and creative, I don't agree; the Devil certainly didn't strike me as one of the game's hardest bosses.
What do you all think?
The bitch ass bee. Fuck that bee. The other bosses didn’t give me as much of a problem as the bee. But I’m also bad at the game so maybe that’s why she was hard
I remember nearly beating that boss first try and thinking it was super easy... I couldn't have been more wrong...
How could you not say king dice? Having to beat all those bullshit bossss in a row
King Dice is my favorite boss for the creativity.
I actually figured out which bosses in each cluster were the easiest for me to take down; and it was 2 (casino chips), 5 (magician guy), and 7 (dancing woman). By only fighting those guys, and with some practice on Dice himself, I finally finished it.
When I next replay the game I want to challenge myself to taking down each and every miniboss... it sounds hard but quite an accomplishment.
I just can’t predictably roll the dice the same each time. I really hate this boss, lol I may or may not get past it at some point, I was super stuck on the ghost train boss for months and months so who knows
The random gaps between platforms during Grim and Rumor's fights.
This is what killed me a lot of the time. moving platforms are the worst
Hilda Berg is surprisingly tough on Expert.
My nightmares consist of exclusively Rumor Honeybottoms.
Who do you think is the hardest boss
Stupid robot i hate you stupid piece of metal >:(
Yeah, he's one annoying boss.
For me it was Djhimmi, Wally Warbles, Honeybottoms, and the Devil.
Funnily enough, I didn’t think Kahl was too hard; at least not in expert mode. Definitely one of the harder normal mode bosses, but I feel he didn’t change too much in expert mode.
Easy choice, it's Dr. Kahl's robot.
I totally agree
Not if you play bullet-hell games like enter the gungeon. He was pretty easy for me. The pattern of the bullets was always pretty predictable.
I honestly didn't find Dr khal that hard. Of course I raged but in my opinion grim matchstick and rumor honeybottoms are harder.
What do you guys think is the hard part in this boss fight?
Petsonally, I failed a lot at the first stage and then the bullet-hell stuff was quite exhausting because you gotta stay focused 100% of the time but I managed to beat him the 2nd or 3rd time I got to that stage.
So I'm really wondering if that really is the part people struggle with
I struggle a little with stage 1, and most with stage 3
Easiest boss in the DLC, fight me
Honestly, I thought everything after Mortimer Freeze was way easier than everything else. I don't think any of the bosses after Mortimer took me more than 5 tries. Getting S ranks has been a huge pain, though, especially with the last phase of moonshine mob. I've only got Mortimer left, then I'll have S ranks on every boss in the game
I relate with that. I am the kind of player that restarts when they get hit early. My strategy is...
Charge Shot 1st phase. Crackshot 2nd and 3rd phase.
I make enough meter to parry my own crack shots to get health with the heart ring and try to get hit the least on the 2nd phase. After that it's try not to mess up on the last stage which is so easy to do. What I find the most annoying parts about this battle is that when he throws his little icicles on the 1st phase, they go towards a side and give you like a fraction of a second to react and sometimes you get hit if you flick or press the button to the wrong side. It's almost a guaranteed lost health. The flying popsicles on the second stage are straight up unfair always appearing at the most inconvenient places pretty much covering your safety jumps and spots. The last portion is hard if you haven't parried 3 times. The buckets sometimes fly at the weirdest angles and the platforming makes it extremely difficult to parry them. Also the eye gets a bit tricky sometimes. I am talking Expert Difficulty trying to get the S.
If the goal is just to defeat them no matter what grade, then none feel difficult anymore... on any difficulty
I thought Glumstone was the easiest. Took me less than eight tries and I’ve never had that luxury with any Cuphead boss aside from the first two on isle 1.
Fuck no I ain't gone fight you over a dlc boss
Easiest for me was Winchester, the hardest (besides salt baker) for me was that damn grandpa, stupid bootleg santa lookin ass. Almost done with the fight huh? WELL ITS ARURABORI ALL OVER FOR YOU! MORE LIKE FUCK YOU, YOU MADE ME SPILL MY MILK ARURABORI ALL OVER THE FUCKING FLOOR. MAYBE I NEED TO CHILL OUT?? MAYBE IF YOU DINT TURN INTO A SNOWMAN I WOULD NOT GIVE YOU THE COLD SHOULDER GET IT?
Yea i hate him no i don’t regret writing this and yes this was kinda inspired by samonella academy
If someone says that Esther Winchester is easy i will broke all his bones because this is one of the hardest bosses (didn't beat her so don't know if saltbaker is hard lol)
I beat Doggone Dogfight in 2 tries and the only reason I didn’t get it the first time was because I accidentally triggered the secret phase and it threw me off guard.
I’d literally tilt my head during the final phases just so the screen looked straight. I felt like an idiot, but it worked like a charm.
Didn't everyone? It's legit a good strat.
That's what I did on my furst run. Thrn I found tilting my head worked as well lol.
yeah if they ALL have low health in phase 2 then there will be a secret phase
I finished Cuphead in a week, and im pretty sure it's my second favourite game (rdr2 is first if you're wondering, but I enjoyed Cuphead so much that it's possible it was more enjoyable then rdr2 (didn't beat rdr2 yet.)).
And i will rate some of the bosses i enjoyed the most...
Werner Werman, something about this boss was so charming. It felt so simple and a breath of fresh air with the sound track absolutely killing it! Just beacuse he's the worst on the list doesn't mean he's an enjoyable bossfight.
Grim Matchstick, 6 or 7 years ago, when Matchstick was considered the hardest boss fight in the game.. his bossfight is probably the most unique out of the all normal bosses. His soundtrack is alright.. but his animations are just perfection. And his final intimidating phase is a cherry on top.
King Dice, he is just cool. The way the is the last bossfight before the last bossfight is pretty cool, and the way we fight his minions along the way? DAMN! And we all died atleast once because his cards were unexpected.. also, one of the best soundtracks in the game!
Cagney Carnation, do i even have to explain myself? The best bossfight in inkwell isle I, if not one of the best bossfights in the game. His soundtrack is pretty much the best and the most iconic, his bossfight fits the intense difficulty and soundtrack when we were fighting him for the firsts time. A beautiful flower, and a beautiful bossfight.
The devil, the last bossfight, the best visuals, attacks, difficulty, creativity etc.. for me. When i got on his second phase for the first time.. the soundtrack and bossfight got EVEN BETTER LIKE SHEESH!!! And harder.. ofc. And the way his final phase is so short and easy, but we would be 90% 1 hp would make the bossfight even more intense and stressful.. perfection!
And that would be it, if you did read all of this.. well thanks! I'm just very passionate about this game and i didn't regret typing all of this.
I hope for Cuphead 2
That can wait 😭
me too I think The Devil get Revenge on Cuphead Mugman and Ms Chalice
Yeah... Studio MDR already said that would never happen
Awesome :D glad you enjoyed the game :D. If you haven't. Please consider getting the DLC. Its incredible
Congrats! I agree with your top bosses, i would have picked cala maria and beppi. I just finished the game about a month ago myself. I loved it so much I got the DLC and actually started watching the cuphead show on netflix, its so good!!! I recommend checking it out if you loved cuphead that much.
I finished watching it ever since it came out;]
Off you go with the DLC! Short but just as sweet
gg
My brother just got Cuphead yesterday in hopes of adding to our list of indie games we've played; little did the two of us know that this game was hard as balls. Bro, y'all make this look so fucking easy doing it without taking damage. HOW DOES ONE BEAT THIS DAMN GAME!!!
It is formally known as The Great Cuphead War in my house. 300 percent on all 3 saves. About 3 years ago. It is my greatest achievement to this day.
Why is it a war? Did it have any casualties? (smashed controllers do count)
Just git gud mate
Just kidding, the game is all about muscle memory, be cartain that these people that finish the game without taking damage, already died A LOT before being able to do this
I'll have to try several times before you remember "Now the boss will do this, now an enemy will appear here"
I'm currently s ranking the devil and king dice. P ranked and s ranked everyone else. I had a little under 500 deaths after a+ everything the first go round on normal (including the run n guns), and I did a ton of resetting. I'm sure I'm now over a thousand and I've still be resetting. It's also my first time playing lol
I won't even try to S rank everything, would like to, but my mental health is more important
So in other words…
Just git gud mate
>HOW DOES ONE BEAT THIS DAMN GAME!!!
Infinite amounts of trial and error, building skills more and more across a period of multiple hours a day, trying new strategies, retrying old strategies,
and a WHOLE lot of dying.
İn sekiro terms
Git gud
I think those are hollow knight terms...
imo the most satisfying part of the game is in your own skill progression. I’m stuck on the Devil in the base game, but I know I will beat him eventually - the fight is fair and it’s just a matter of fine-tuning my reflexes and responses, as it was for every other fight in the game.
I was looking at my boss fight scores and noticed that I got a B- for Goopy Le Grande and an A- for Dr. Kahl’s Robot, lol. The game truly does get easier with practice (and a lot of patience).
It can be really hard lmao, I got it without knowing how hard it was and didn't play for months, honestly it's really hard to beat bosses the first time but you do get the hang of it, the people making it look easy have just been through the rounds
At some point, you just become
My top five hardest bosses
The dragon guy
The dice person
The bee
The robot
The devil(got kinda lucky honestly)
We shall not talk about me taking like 8 days straight just beating the main game, DLC, and refighting bosses for like 40 second intervals
King dice and the devil took 5 of these hours btw
Don’t worry, mines 45 😭
Nice pic, mate!
You actually beat it quicker than me and I've seen the game
S-Ranking Saltbaker took me 7 and a half hours
I 100% to DLC on the day of release and spent almost 13 hours on saltbaker
It took 5 tries but the DEVIL TOOK HOURS TO BEAT
Weirdly enough only took me a couple of tries, and I wasn’t even trying to S-rank it..
S ranking that dude took me like 3 hours, him and Esther sucked s ranking
Calamaria is harder, dr Kahl is easy when you know the strat, Cala’s I-zap-at-you-and-you-become-stone bullshit can go to inkwell hell.
Listen, Cala Maria isnt unfair, you literally just need to be prepares for whats coming, in pre cabe phase you can kill the minions with ex attacks and bombs and keep moving and you will be fine. In cave phase you need to stick the far left and be prepared for the attacks.
Ok expert it's a damn nightmare. It takes over a minute to whittle down his health in the last phase, but the last phase is LITERALLY JUST BULLET HELL. So for a straight minute you cannot get hit by anything while trying to shoot st a ever moving Target
It wasnt even that hard what LOL the only challenging part was the end
...is overrated difficulty-wise.
Fire guy in Saltbaker fight
Devil on base, Saltbaker on Expert.
Robot? Devil? King dice? Bee? Bird? What is the hardest boss ? The boss with the most comments is declared the cuphead hardest boss
devil followed by casino man and dragon
funny how people see bosses so differently. for me, kahl was not even in top5
Dr. Kahl is difficult no doubt but once you learn his attack patterns you can beat im pretty easily.
Probably The Devil or Cala Maria
That’s a surprise because I beat Cala Maria 2nd try
dr kahl (the robot)
berd
Hilda Berg on Expert
