What Redditors are Saying

Hardest Boss in Cuphead

TL;DR Dr. Kahl's Robot and Rumor Honeybottoms are frequently mentioned as the hardest bosses due to their challenging mechanics, while other contenders include Chef Saltbaker and Esther Winchester.

Dr. Kahl's Robot

Dr. Kahl's Robot is widely regarded as one of the hardest bosses in Cuphead. The fight involves bullet hell mechanics and a lengthy battle that requires constant focus [3:0][4:7]. Many players struggle with the first and third stages of this boss, finding them particularly exhausting [4:1][4:6]. Despite being a challenging normal mode boss, some players find him manageable on expert mode [4:3].

Rumor Honeybottoms

Rumor Honeybottoms is another boss that players often cite as difficult. The random gaps between platforms during her fight add an extra layer of challenge [3:8]. Players have expressed frustration with her unpredictable patterns and the difficulty of navigating the moving platforms [3:9].

Chef Saltbaker

Chef Saltbaker, particularly on expert mode, has been highlighted as a tough opponent. Players have spent significant time trying to defeat him, indicating the high level of difficulty [1:3][5:5]. The complexity of his phases and the precision required make him a formidable foe.

Esther Winchester

Esther Winchester is noted for her difficulty, especially by those who haven't yet faced Chef Saltbaker [5:5]. Her patterns and attacks require careful timing and strategy, making her one of the harder bosses in the game.

Other Challenging Bosses

Other bosses mentioned include Grim Matchstick, Beppi, and the Devil, each presenting unique challenges [2:2][3:4][4:5]. While not universally agreed upon as the hardest, they still pose significant challenges for many players.

I don't understand why so many people find him hard. He's one of the hardest imo, and S ranking him ways a nightmare, too. Too much RNG that can ruin your run in the third phase. Grim is one of the easiest bosses with the right weapons (Charge and Lobber) and Dr. Kahl is fun and not as hard as many claim him to be imo. Eben S ranking him felt like a nice and fair challenge.

The difficulty of this boss fight greatly depends on the minions she sends out. I loathe the candy corn and waffle, the rest are no problem.

Just keep on trying, eventually you'll get a combo of sweets you can get through easily.

I beat her on expert last week. I got lucky with the gumball, cupcake and jawbreaker combo - they're the easiest to deal with IMO.

3 upvotes on reddit
Mydogisgoldenilike · OP · 3 years ago

yea the muffin is really easy but honestly this might just be me but the candycorn isn’t really that difficult for me the jaw breaker is what gets me half the time it’s the little one behind him

I just beat this and candy corn and waffle were always the ones I’d hope she’d send out. Their patterns were so predictable. If I got cupcake as second or third (first was like a freebie for me though), or jawbreaker… ugh I might as well have given up then lol.

Gumball is a punk tho.

What do you think is the hardest boss in the game?

Posted by ShiningConcepts · in r/Cuphead · 6 years ago

For me, the hardest boss, also the one I spent the most time on, was Dr. Kahl's Robot. The bullet hell mechanics combined with the long nature of the fight made it a real pain for me.

What inspired me to make this thread was seeing a top 10 video where someone listed the Devil as the hardest boss in the game. While fun and creative, I don't agree; the Devil certainly didn't strike me as one of the game's hardest bosses.

What do you all think?

How could you not say king dice? Having to beat all those bullshit bossss in a row

5 upvotes on reddit
ShiningConcepts · OP · 6 years ago

King Dice is my favorite boss for the creativity.

I actually figured out which bosses in each cluster were the easiest for me to take down; and it was 2 (casino chips), 5 (magician guy), and 7 (dancing woman). By only fighting those guys, and with some practice on Dice himself, I finally finished it.

When I next replay the game I want to challenge myself to taking down each and every miniboss... it sounds hard but quite an accomplishment.

What do you guys think is the hard part in this boss fight?

Petsonally, I failed a lot at the first stage and then the bullet-hell stuff was quite exhausting because you gotta stay focused 100% of the time but I managed to beat him the 2nd or 3rd time I got to that stage.

So I'm really wondering if that really is the part people struggle with

Honestly, I thought everything after Mortimer Freeze was way easier than everything else. I don't think any of the bosses after Mortimer took me more than 5 tries. Getting S ranks has been a huge pain, though, especially with the last phase of moonshine mob. I've only got Mortimer left, then I'll have S ranks on every boss in the game

4 upvotes on reddit
dgreenmissile · 3 years ago

I relate with that. I am the kind of player that restarts when they get hit early. My strategy is...

Charge Shot 1st phase. Crackshot 2nd and 3rd phase.

I make enough meter to parry my own crack shots to get health with the heart ring and try to get hit the least on the 2nd phase. After that it's try not to mess up on the last stage which is so easy to do. What I find the most annoying parts about this battle is that when he throws his little icicles on the 1st phase, they go towards a side and give you like a fraction of a second to react and sometimes you get hit if you flick or press the button to the wrong side. It's almost a guaranteed lost health. The flying popsicles on the second stage are straight up unfair always appearing at the most inconvenient places pretty much covering your safety jumps and spots. The last portion is hard if you haven't parried 3 times. The buckets sometimes fly at the weirdest angles and the platforming makes it extremely difficult to parry them. Also the eye gets a bit tricky sometimes. I am talking Expert Difficulty trying to get the S.

If the goal is just to defeat them no matter what grade, then none feel difficult anymore... on any difficulty

I thought Glumstone was the easiest. Took me less than eight tries and I’ve never had that luxury with any Cuphead boss aside from the first two on isle 1.

I finished Cuphead in a week, and im pretty sure it's my second favourite game (rdr2 is first if you're wondering, but I enjoyed Cuphead so much that it's possible it was more enjoyable then rdr2 (didn't beat rdr2 yet.)).

And i will rate some of the bosses i enjoyed the most...

  1. Werner Werman, something about this boss was so charming. It felt so simple and a breath of fresh air with the sound track absolutely killing it! Just beacuse he's the worst on the list doesn't mean he's an enjoyable bossfight.

  2. Grim Matchstick, 6 or 7 years ago, when Matchstick was considered the hardest boss fight in the game.. his bossfight is probably the most unique out of the all normal bosses. His soundtrack is alright.. but his animations are just perfection. And his final intimidating phase is a cherry on top.

  3. King Dice, he is just cool. The way the is the last bossfight before the last bossfight is pretty cool, and the way we fight his minions along the way? DAMN! And we all died atleast once because his cards were unexpected.. also, one of the best soundtracks in the game!

  4. Cagney Carnation, do i even have to explain myself? The best bossfight in inkwell isle I, if not one of the best bossfights in the game. His soundtrack is pretty much the best and the most iconic, his bossfight fits the intense difficulty and soundtrack when we were fighting him for the firsts time. A beautiful flower, and a beautiful bossfight.

  5. The devil, the last bossfight, the best visuals, attacks, difficulty, creativity etc.. for me. When i got on his second phase for the first time.. the soundtrack and bossfight got EVEN BETTER LIKE SHEESH!!! And harder.. ofc. And the way his final phase is so short and easy, but we would be 90% 1 hp would make the bossfight even more intense and stressful.. perfection!

And that would be it, if you did read all of this.. well thanks! I'm just very passionate about this game and i didn't regret typing all of this.

imo the most satisfying part of the game is in your own skill progression. I’m stuck on the Devil in the base game, but I know I will beat him eventually - the fight is fair and it’s just a matter of fine-tuning my reflexes and responses, as it was for every other fight in the game.

I was looking at my boss fight scores and noticed that I got a B- for Goopy Le Grande and an A- for Dr. Kahl’s Robot, lol. The game truly does get easier with practice (and a lot of patience).

Hardest boss in cuphead

Key Considerations for the Hardest Boss in Cuphead:

  1. Difficulty Level: Many players consider "The Devil" to be the hardest boss due to his multi-phase battle, complex attack patterns, and the need for precise timing and movement.

  2. Attack Patterns: Bosses like "King Dice" also present a significant challenge. His fight involves multiple mini-bosses, each with unique attacks, requiring players to adapt quickly.

  3. Player Skill: The perception of difficulty can vary based on player skill and experience. Some players might find bosses like "Wally Warbles" or "Dr. Kahl's Robot" particularly challenging due to their specific mechanics.

  4. Co-op Play: Playing in co-op mode can change the dynamics of boss fights, making some bosses easier or harder depending on teamwork and coordination.

Takeaway: While "The Devil" is often cited as the hardest boss in Cuphead, it ultimately depends on your play style and experience. If you're struggling, consider practicing specific patterns or using different weapons and charms to find what works best for you.
