Character Appearance Customization
In Elden Ring, players have the option to re-customize their character's appearance. This can be done using a mirror located in the Roundtable Hold. By accessing this mirror, players can make visual tweaks to their character without affecting gameplay attributes [1:1]
[1:2]. However, respec options are not available through this feature
[1:3].
Fashion and Cosmetic Options
The game offers alternate outfits for characters that are purely cosmetic. Players will be able to earn these cosmetics by playing as preset heroes, but the customization is limited to aesthetics rather than altering the fundamental character design [2:1]
[2:2]. There are eight playable characters, each with an unknown number of alternate outfits
[2:3].
Desired Customization Features
Players have expressed interest in more detailed customization options, such as thick cloaks, dyeable clothes, diverse textures, and the ability to layer clothing items [3:1]. Additional desires include backpacks, sacks, and accessories like belts and scabbards
[3:2]. Tattoo options beyond facial designs and unique features like closing one eye were also mentioned
[3:5]
[3:7].
Character Template Reuse
For those looking to reuse a character design from a previous playthrough, Elden Ring allows players to save their character template at the mirror in the Roundtable Hold [4:1]. If saved, this design can be used when creating a new character
[4:3]. However, if the design was not saved initially, players would need to manually recreate it
[4:3].
Modding for Extended Customization
Players interested in extending hair options or adding new styles can explore mods for Elden Ring. While specific links were not provided, mods like the Convergence mod have been noted for offering unique hairstyles inspired by characters like Rennala and Miquella [5]. These mods can enhance the customization experience for players seeking more variety in character design.
Just out of curiosity if anyone has found anything like this yet, wanting to make a few minor tweaks to my character just for shits and giggles.
Visual tweaks? The mirror in the Roundtable Hold will let you do that.
Respec? Not that I've found yet. Change character appearance? Surprisingly, yes. There's a mirror in Roundtable Hold.
I'm not the end all be all though. I'm not that far yet. Still bashing my head against a wall named spider in Stormveil.
Go to Table of Lost Grace and take the right hallway to the last room. There’s a dressing mirror you can use to change appearance
I KNEW that mirror looked oddly detailed for just somethin in the corner! Thanks a bunch
No problem brethren
One of my favorite aspects of Elden Ring is the Elden Bling. Is there any word on whether we can customize our characters’ aesthetics?
There are alternate outfits for each character.
They're purely cosmetic though.
there are 8 playable characters with an unknown number of alternate outfits for each
We won't have customizable characters. We'll be playing as preset "heroes" but will be able to earn cosmetics for individual heroes by playing. That's about all we know so far when it comes to fashion
I hope that there is a wretch class with nothing but a club
god i didn’t even realize how desperately i need this until now.
Why this shield looks like a clit?
The true purpose of fingers unveiled.
That there is none lol
What kind of in depth options would you guys like to see or do you guys think we will see? Personally since all of Froms past games have had either a berserk reference or been somewhat inspired by berserk I’d love to be able to have and customize a prosthetic arm
I want to have backpacks and sacks. Like samwise gamgee with pots and pans. Maybe even a lute or something too alongside my weapons. Itd just be funny to look like a simple traveler instead of some knight or ninja.
More than 4 set pieces. Like shoulders, boots and maybe belts
I want:
I doubt many of these will make it in the game.
I agree with all of them. Belts and Scabbars is a little too much tho maybe
This and tattoos
Fingers crossed
I just wanna be able to tattoo something other than my face
Let me close one eye please!
I'm about to make a new character for a new playthrough and I'd like to use the same design as what I used with my first character. Is this option available?
Nope! When you start a character, the sliders you used literally explode, disappear, and may never be used again, not just by you, but by every other player connected to the network!
Classic From.
It's the Dark Souls of character creators.
When you create a new character it will give you the option to save the design. If you did can pull that in when creating another new character. If not you would have to manually go through and create the character to look like that.
Ah ok, so same as older souls games. Thanks!
Yeah you can use the same character design just not weapons
If you didn’t already save your character template you can go to the round table hold and do it at the mirror in the room with Fia.
Oh really? That's good to know, thanks!
Glad to help
Hello! I’ve recently picked up Elden Ring after a while now and have been wondering if there was a mod to extend the hair options (or add new options).
I really liked Rennala’s hair (long and wavy) in the Convergence mod, and generally love styles like Miquella’s long hair when he was in his child form.
Is there a mod out there that adds long, wavy hair for tarnished during character customization? If so, could you please share a link or anything you know about it?
Thank you very much. Sincerely, someone who cares way too much about character customization
Can you change skin color to green? I love playing as an Orc :D
You're looking for character customization, you probably want to play a game like black desert online.
The character customization being limited really isn’t an issue to me
No. Character customization is fairly limited.
Bummer. Thanks for responding! I’m still gonna buy it cuz I saw a video of someone using the Zweihander xd
Be aware that in a month, you'll have to create a new character for the next update. If you don't like having to start over, I'd recommend to wait until then
I think it’s called the ice breaker in this game. Weapon drops are pretty random at the moment but I think the breach update will have some better ways of farming for gear
I would really wait until April 30th. They’re doubling the amount of playable content, and you can’t bring your existing character into the new update because of how many breaking changes they are making.
yeah i’ll be keeping it in my library til that date
Why didn’t you get it during the sale for 30% off?
I got Nioh 2 instead of it just because Nioh 2 is a complete game. So while waiting for this game’s expansion, I can just play and finish Nioh 2
No - game is racist
I remember playing the game awhile back and see how little the options were for character customization. Is it more in depth now? Thinking about buying the game again and wondering can you change your characters appearance? (Hair, Face, Skin, Clothes)
It's not really any more in-depth now than it was say, 6 months ago. They're focused on improving the actual gameplay and performance for the time being.
There was a preview of some new hats in the last steam news update but they aren't in the game yet and aren't planned to be introduced for a while. You can actually see what they're working on currently on the game's public trello board, which is pretty neat.
Hey there! I feel super exposed posting this lol would love some help trying to replicate my look on Elden Ring. Believe me, I tried for hours but my level of success is debatable. Thanks folks!
I was going to give it a try but I won't be home for a while. You could try use these sliders as a base, as I think they could work:
https://imgur.com/gallery/sliders-bling-milos-sword-of-grace-elden-ring-GgQCsGd
Will there be more detailed character customization options once the game releases? Also really really want to be able to mix and match outfits pieces. Just the freedom to play around with clothing, instead of just swapping full outfits.
I really hope the character customisation gets expanded eventually. It would be great to mix and match different items and then they could add them into the loot drops in game…I’d love to be able to search the map for cosmetic items
Same dude, i love finding exclusives
The only thing I wish is for them to let me add a beard to my character
During the last survey, they showed more customization options, but i don't remember seeing anything about a system as deep as the finals.
However, it was possible to make this suggestion on the last page, which i did.
Also made this suggestion, hoping it be more like the finals where if you get an outfit for example you can mix and match and its split into head, torso, Lower body etc
no one knows
Don't get your hopes up. You can suggest the change in feedback channels, but don't trust the people saying they are "sure" and "confident" we'll have fully customizable cosmetic slots for characters.
What was in the tech test was quite fleshed out. It would take a crazy amount of work to rework the system. Maybe they are putting their heads down and grinding to make it happen, but it's unlikely.
I've seen the sentiment multiple times in this subreddit that some people are "sure" it's been fixed and that they are confident the cosmetic system has changed, with no confirming information past vibes.
Continuing on character creation tips of the day, I wanted to help assist those who may be struggling with sliders or proportions:
For beginners, take any basic starting model and set all sliders to 128. Setting the sliders halfway will create a pretty well proportioned face with a neutral expression. If you are more of a beginner with sliders, try to start out by making something basic. Don't try to make game, movie, irl people characters when you're first starting out etc. Just focus on making a face that could pass for a human being. This will help you to understand how the sliders work.
Sliders and Their Sisters/Twins:
FromSoftware's character creator can be frustrating but very rewarding. Unfortunately you can't just change one slider without it warping another aspect of the face. It's annoying but hey, we gotta deal with it. Every slider has what I like to call a "sister or twin" slider. Some sliders have multiple twins that you have to adjust. I've listed below each slider and their corresponding twins:
1.) All sliders under Facial Balance will change the brows, eyes, nose, forehead, lips, cheeks, mouth. The facial balance sliders are what I like to call your "overall" slides, meaning that all of them will change every aspect of the face.
2.) Forehead sliders, specifically depth and protrusion will make the forehead larger or smaller. This actually will warp the nose, eyes and eyebrows as well.
3.) Nose Bridge Height/Bridge Protrusion 1 and 2/Nose Bridge Width will change the eyes, nose, brows and the facial expression your Tarnished has. These are critical sliders to learn.
4.) Brow Ridge sliders will specifically go hand in hand with the eyes. Brow ridge height at 128 will create a neutral expression. Brow ridge height at 0 will tilt the inner corners of the eyes down and slightly move them further apart. A brow ridge height set at 255 will pull the eyes inwards a bit and also add more of a stern expression to a face.
5.) Eye sliders will go hand in hand with nose, mouth and brow sliders. The more you lower the eyes, it will push the face up and out horizontally making it look fuller. The more you raise the eyes, the face, nose, and mouth will stretch inwards and up vertically.
6.) All nose and nostril sliders will change everything on the face. Meaning nose sliders will go hand in hand with cheeks, lips, mouth, jaw, forehead.
7.) All cheek sliders will change all other aspects of the face. Same as 6.
8.) All mouth and lip sliders will directly affect the jaw and chin.
What I recommend is to pick a random starting model, make it bald and start adjusting things not only head on, but from the sides as well. I can't stress how important this is. This will provide you a full 360 degree view on what is changing on the face. Try moving the sliders back and forth from 0 to 255. You'll start seeing things you've never noticed.
In addition to this, I have included two pictures that I used to reference as a guide for facial proportions when I was first starting out trying to learn the sliders. Credit for the pictures goes to a site called Famitsu. Hopefully this helps.
Happy Sliding!

Tips and descriptions in the body text.
This is an absolutely fantastic write-up, genuinely.
One question though: What purpose does form emphasis serve? Other than making my character's face look like an aggravated owl if I push the slider to 255, of course.
Thank you so much, I'm glad you find it informative. Form emphasis will slightly pull the whole character's face inward. Let's say you want to have a female character that has a fuller cheeks. But you don't want the face to look swollen. You can set form emphasis between 10-20 to slightly pull the face in and offset it. I guess you can refer to it as sharpening almost if that makes sense. That's another one of those overall sliders that I don't touch until last minute touches.
Still looks a bit retrognathic to me but definitely better than the default weak ass chin all these games have.
Looking closer maybe I'm tricked by the gamer neck posture
It's probably the janky FromSoft nose + forehead combo making it look receded and small. If we shrunk the top half of the face a bit and brought the nose up a little higher, the chin and mouth would look totally fine. Also the weirdly thick neck in profile doesn't help sell how far the jaw protrudes, unless you make a character with a massive mandible lmao
It’s not that deep bro, just don’t make it look ugly if that’s what you’re going for
Here is the article this is copied from
To be clear, in the body text I mentioned the website. However, my description of how to use the sliders is vastly different because I have a different method. 🙂
Just providing a link for anyone who wants to see the article
