TL;DR Final Fantasy X, VII, and VI are frequently praised for their compelling storylines. Final Fantasy XIV, especially its Shadowbringers expansion, is also highly regarded but is an MMO with a vast narrative scope.
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X is often cited as having one of the most emotionally impactful stories in the series. It explores themes of religion, sacrifice, and personal growth, resonating deeply with players [1:3],
[2:1]. The game's climax, particularly the confrontation with Lady Yunalesca, is highlighted as a powerful moment
[5:1]. Despite some criticisms about plot tension and character interactions
[2:2], many players find the narrative well-rounded and engaging
[2:3].
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VII is renowned for its epic lore and iconic characters. Its complex storyline involves deep emotional arcs and significant world-building [3:1]. The game is often recommended to newcomers for its compelling narrative without overly complicated mechanics
[3:4]. The diverse settings and character development make it a favorite among fans
[5:7].
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VI is celebrated for its character development and memorable villain, Kefka, who actually succeeds in ending the world [2]. The game offers a rich narrative with political intrigue and personal struggles, making it a standout in the series
[5:5].
Final Fantasy XIV
While Final Fantasy XIV is an MMO, its expansive storyline, particularly the Shadowbringers expansion, is highly praised [2:6],
[5:5]. The sheer volume of content allows for extensive character development and world-building, though some argue this leads to more plot holes
[1:4]. Nonetheless, its narrative depth and engagement have earned it a place among the best stories in the franchise
[1:1].
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy Tactics is noted for its political narrative and strategic depth [2]. The intricate plot and character dynamics provide a unique storytelling experience that stands out from other entries in the series
[5:5].
In conclusion, while opinions vary, Final Fantasy X, VII, and VI consistently emerge as top contenders for the best storyline due to their emotional depth, character development, and thematic richness. Final Fantasy XIV and Tactics offer unique experiences that are also highly valued by fans.
No spoilers for any games please, I just want to know which game has the absolute best plot. I'm thinking of playing 6,7, or 8, or maybe finishing up XII. I have played a bunch of Tactics, Tactics Advance and X.
EDIT: Wow, I don't think I've ever gotten this much feedback on a Reddit post before, thank you every single one of you for both your time and your responses, I'm going to read them all.
If we’re talking any games. XIV definitely takes the cake. But it’s an MMO that’s like 4-5 time longer than any other FF sooo it’s kinda cheating
It is a bit but the entire story still comes under one game banner. Besides imagine you wrote a story and this was the only way to tell it, to have people invest over years! I wouldn't let anyone take that away from me. Perhaps the argument is that some was filler, some was long and boring (ARR) and stories such as 4 or 7 could have been extended, but, with the space they had, they did excellently, and that perhaps deserves extra commendation.
11 and 14 are basically their own series in the same way 7 has the compilation games and 10/13 with their sequels.
Final Fantasy 10. It had the deepest impact on me and really challenged a lot of my nihilistic and fatalistic views.
Final Fantasy Tactics
And Final Fantasy XIV if you count MMO
XIV has FAR too many plotholes to be considered "the best" come on now.
It also has the most story, so more story = more plotholes. Regardless, all FF games have plotholes so, I don't think that matters much.
I would say the overarching plot is good enough to contend, but honestly there are typically too many branches that I tend to lose interest in the majority of the finer details. I'm hoping the new story they offer is a bit more streamlined.
Plot holes exist only to be filled in later. We see this happen all the time in game.
Yep it's an ff game with a story so it counts
This is tough!
I gotta replay a lot of them.
As an adult I think I need to re-do tactics. Some of the quotes resonate differently now.
BUT I get FFX so much more now … it’s also the one I’m currently replaying though so maybe bias.
For me the best story is XIV, but it’s by far the longest and that gives them room to squeeze in so much development and worldbuilding and little character moments so that’s kind of cheating.
Otherwise, I’d say FFX.
Which game has the best story? Not combat, features etc. But purely your favorite story from start to finish.
I am biased toward Tactics. I love the political side of it. I think 6 is the crowning achievement...I believe it has the best character development and villain of all time (Kefka actually ends the world). Celes tried to commit suicide.
What about you?
I think X is the most well rounded; I wouldn’t say it had the best story in any particular aspect, but when weighing the pros and cons of each narrative in the series it’s the only one that lacks glaring flaws, barring possibly awkward voice delivery in a desperate attempt to match the Japanese mouth flaps.
Like, I would argue the games peaked in party character writing with XIII, but most other aspects of the plot, such as the villains and overall lore, fell apart entirely. Along those same lines, I would say VII delivered the most fleshed out and immersive world, but the prevalence of each party member in the narrative is incredibly unbalanced as the plot furthers. XVI has probably the best dialogue writing, direction, and tone, but the pacing is straight-up bad.
I think people are going to give different answers depending on which elements of a narrative they prefer, which is part of what makes each FF story so beloved by at least certain chunks of people.
To each their own. I think X had plenty of flaws and is one of my least favorite stories in the FF universe.
X is a lovely story, but based on the party pretty much never investigating/grilling one another.
Dream Zanarkand, Auron having been to both, Yuna hiding she's going to die, Auron being the ONLY Unsent, who kept the Final Summoning secret compared to other Guardians, so on and on.
A lot of the plot's tension is based on dramatic reveals that the majority of the plot spins around. Auron's determination to not be forthcoming because 'experience is the better teacher', while everyone else in the group refusing to speak about Yuna's Death. Let alone the fucking world; why WOULDN'T sacrifice and death be a talking point ANYWHERE for Summoners? It'd be like talking about Jesus while pussyfooting around the whole 'died for your sins' part.
(Meanwhile, is Auron broken up solely because of Jecht, or no permanent true end to Sin? Because he should've known Braska was a goner from the onset.)
Add in Seymour who pops back up like a weed everytime, and a religion that runs on basically allowing a genocide whale to continue genociding people. Because...yeah, it's too hard to come up with a real solution.
Like I love X, my first and beloved FF, but some of this is eh.
That’s fair enough; it’s not my favourite either, but if someone asked me which story was the “best”, I’d be hard pressed to find a better answer personally. Like, if a random person I’ve never met asked me which FF they would enjoy the most based on the narrative, X seems like the safest bet.
It balances all the story elements well, and while I don’t think it exceeds in most regards, it delivers them all so consistently that it feels very whole and intentional. Though as I said, I personally lean towards a lot of those more lopsided narratives that place heavier emphasis on certain story elements.
I despised X.
X is my favorite story, honestly by a wide margin
14 for me and if you want to get specific about expansions Shadowbringers
XlV Shadowbringers
Tactics, easily.
I'm looking for a game to play with a good story not necessarily the best mechanics
For me its pretty much a tie between VII and X. VII has the most epic lore and backstory and the most iconic characters.
But X has by far the most emotional story. Both are pretty much the pinnacle of FFs storytelling.
That being said IV, VI and IX have very amazing engaging stories and worlds as well. Personally I even love the stories of VIII and XIII as they have great lore, characters and much emotion.
XII is a bit different and plays more like a Game of Thrones meets Star Wars war drama with a fantastic presentation and huge lore but has the most lacking cast of characters.
I kind of have my eye on XII, is there a big focus on magic in the story or is it mostly about politics?
Several months ago I posted a detailed description of FF XII lore for players new to the game as the games backstory and lore is really complex and many new players are often confused by it.
Here it is:
The Occuria are basically the gods in the world of FF XII (Ivalice) and in the past they gave a special blade to a chosen human warrior. With that blade that warrior cut several shards from something called the Sun Cryst, which is basically the source of magic. these shards will be important in the story and so is the blade used to cut them from the Cryst.
The warrior used those shards to become a mighty ruler known as the Dynast King Raithwall who united Ivalice under his rule. Later his descendants formed the kingdoms of Dalmasca and Nabradia and each of them were given one of the three shards (Raithwall kept the last shard for himself until his death).
Eventually two major Empires rose - Rozarria to the west and Arcadia to the east and they warred with each other for supremacy with the smaller kingdoms (such as Dalmasca and Nabradia) caught in the middle of that war.
Now I am gonna have to get a bit spoilery here so be warned.
The head scientist of Arcadia named "Doctor Cid" encountered one of the Occuria (the gods remember) named Venat. Venat rebelled against the other Occuria and chose to join forces with the humans to put the power to control fate directly into their hands and take it away from the other Occuria. For that act the other Occuria branded him a traitor and banished him from their realm. Venat accompanied Cid back to Arcadia and taught him to create magicite which is basically artitficial Nethicite (the shards cut from the Sun Cryst are natural nethicite - sources of magic). Armed with that new weapon, Arcadia then set out to conquer the other kingdoms - particularly the kingdoms who owned the other two shards (Nabradia and Dalmasca).
The beginning of the game shows the arcadian invasion of Nebradia and how they aquired it`s shard. The kingdom was nearly destroyed in that invasion because of the explosive and destructive effects of the Magicite that Arcadia possessed.
Ashe was the princess of Dalmasca (and thus an heir of Raithwall himself) who had married the prince of Nabradia (Rasler). Her husband led the charge against Arcadia when the arcadians attacked Nabradia but was killed along with pretty much every one else.
Later Vayne Solidor (the villain of FF XII who is the older son of Arcadias Emperor) used the twin brother of Basch (Gabranth - a judge in service of Arcadia) to kill King Raminas of Dalmasca (the father of Ashe) for which Basch was framed (as nobody seemed to know that his twin brother was a Judge of Arcadia) and which ended the peace talks and basically put Dalmasca under the control of Arcadia. Vayne had orchestrated this so he could get unlimited access to Dalmascas capital city of Rabanastre and search for the Dalmascas shard. However he failed to obtain it. Ashe later faked her death to make Arcadia believe that she was gone and worked with a Resistance formed by her old friend Ondore (the Marquis you meet in Bhujerba) with the goal to defeat Arcadia and drive them from her homeland and reclaim the crown of Dalmasca.
Vaans brother Reks fought in the dalmascan army but was also murdered by Basch's brother Gabranth when Ashes father was assassinated. Vaan believed like everyone else that Basch was the killer which is why he is not exactly friendly towards Basch in the beginning.
FF XII`s story revolves mainly around these things:
Ashe working with Ondores Resistance to fight and defeat the Arcadian Empire in order to free her kingdom of Dalmasca from their oppression.
Vayne (who later becomes Emperor of Arcadia) working with Cid and Venat (the rogue Occuria) to obtain all three shards and make himself powerful enough to not only rule everything but also to challenge the occuria themselves and end their control over the fate of all mankind. Vayne has a younger brother named Larsa, who despises what his brother does and becomes an ally to Ashe instead. All Larsa wants is peace between the empires and he is willing to turn against his brother Vayne (who pretty much wants the opposite) to achieve that.
Ashe and the others journey to basically obtain the shards for themselves and eventually they even travel to the Sun Cryst itself so Ash can become Raithwalls true successor and cut her own shards from the Cryst to wield the same power that Raithwall had when he united Ivalice. However that turns out much differently then anticipated. This journey makes up the majority of FF XII.
Because the western empire of Rozzaria realizes what Arcadia (under Vaynes rule) is trying to do, they prepare to go to war against them which would pretty much devastate the whole world and Larsa, Ashe and your heroes desperately try to beat Vayne before Rozzaria moves in to prevent that larger war.
The true endgoal is of course to beat not only Vayne but especially the rogue Occuria Venat who has not only been helping Arcadia to create Magicite but who also keeps empowering and influencing Vayne. In many ways Venat is the true evil behind everything that is happening.
Here a little overview over the characters and terms
Occuria = The Gods in the world of FF XII who secretely control history and fate
Venat = A rogue Occuria who turned against the other gods to put the power of control and fate into human hands and the major evil that influences Vayne.
Sun Cryst = A large crystal made from Nethicite. Using a special blade which is given by the Occuria one can cut shards of immense power from it.
Raithwall = The first King who was chosen by the Occuria to cut shards from the Sun Cryst, who ruled over all of Ivalice as the Dynast King afterwards. He is the ancestor of Ashe.
Nabradia = One of the kingdoms that was founded by one of Raithwalls sons. They inherited one of the three shards.
Dalmasca = Another kingdom founded by Raithwalls son. They also inherited one of the shards. Ashe is the princess of Dalmasca and the rightful heir to the throne in FF XII.
Raminas = Ashes father, who was the King of Dalmasca. His murder was orchestrated by Vayne to gain full control of Dalmasca.
Vayne = Son of the Emperor of Arcadia and later the new Emperor in the game. He is powerhungry and evil and is empowered and influenced by Venat. Tries to find all three shards to gain absolute power, crush any foes and challenge the Occuria. Main villain of FF XII.
Larsa = Younger brother of Vayne who wants his brother to stop his conquest for power. He just wants peace and sides with Ashe to achieve it.
Rasler = Prince of Nabradia who was married to Ashe. He led the charge against Arcadia to stop their invasion but was killed along with everyone else in his army.
Reks = Brother of Vaan who was murdered by Gabranth during the assassination of King Raminas.
Gabranth = Brother of Basch, who serves Arcadia as one of their 12 judges. He killed Reks and Raminas and framed his brother Basch for the crimes. However he is fiercely dedicated to protect Larsa above all else, making him not a completely evil character. He is basically the Darth Vader of FF XII.
Ondore = The Marquis of Bhujerba who is secretely the head of a Resistance that wants to end the oppression by Arcadia. He is a friend of Ashe who is allied with him and his Resistance.
Cid = Head Researcher of Arcadia who was the one who encountered Venat and took him to Arcadia. Venat taught him many things, creating Nethicite being one of them. Cid has in fact a secret connection to one of the Party members.
Nethicite/Magicite = Magicite are all magic fueled stones in Ivalice and the source of magic. Nethicite is a special type of Magicite that is used to absorb Mist and thus wield highly destructive and powerful magic. The Sun Cryst is made from natural Nethicite and thus the three shards are Nethicite. Venat has taught Arcadia to fabricate artificial nethicite which is weaker but safer to use and a great weapon in warfare making Arcadia far superior to other nations in war.
It has a very heavy emphasis on lore. Magic certainly plays a part in it but its more about magical crystals, gods, kingdoms and the fight against tyranny. It has political scenes but with a more epic scope of Empires, betrayals and the like. Like I said its very Game of Thrones.
Most based comment of all time.
If u are new to FF games I would go with 7. Really good story and not overly complicated mechanics
You can't go wrong with one of 6, 7, 9, or 10
7 yah
7
i haven’t played many FF games but i shall soon play 10. i thought 16 had a pretty great story
Final Fantasy XVI. Clive's story sucked me in almost immediately, he was such a tragic character with a shit hand handed to him. The other characters, Dion, Cid, Joshua, I never felt so much sympathy for them either. It may be inspired by other genres, but I feel like Cid/Clive changed the world for even the most unknown background characters. Like that one freed bearer. A hot meal, he was truly grateful.
Final Fantasy X - a perfect mix of timelessness and sadness
XIV, though it’s got sheer volume to its advantage to give it that.
Nah, I think it's save to say with how self-contained the story is, Shadowbringers alone very much stands at the top if not close to it.
Tactics is the best
VI, X, XII and IX are incredible too
As a long time fan of the series I agree with this whole answer.
Theres no other to compare to them. I miss this old square
Final Fantasy Tactics War Of The Lions.
My favorite. The slow escalation is absolutely mental.
AIRHORN BLAST
Not just the best Final Fantasy story, it’s a contender for best story of any video game ever made.
Based only on how good the story is nothing else
Oh man, that fifth spot was tough as shit for me to place. Was debating between X and IX, but I feel like crap either way.
I think I agree with this.
5th spot is hard for me but I agree with the top 4.
I think ff4 might have a better story I dunno.
10, 7, 9, 6,4
FFX really just spoke to me for some reason, not that I'm against religion but the human insititutions that uphold them do have a lot to answer for. And that scene where the party confronts Lady Yunalesca is one of the best climaxes in a video game imo with this epic quote from Auron:
"Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain, or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!"
FFVII is my close second, there was defintely a lot to unpack in that epic story. The theme of how we treat the planet were very timely for the the time period it was released which was when people had only begun to think about the effects of inate change. Clouds personal journey was also quite riveting, I remmebr this was the first game I played where the hero was so broken at one point, powerless in a wheel chair.
I actually have part of that tattooed on my arm.
Die and be free of pain, or live and fight your sorrow!
X was my favorite. And I've played most FFs and their various versions. That game just resonates so well with me. The religious undertones, the father son dynamic, father daughter dynamic, how the world just feels hopeless through the whole thing.
I also appreciate how Spira is the most consistent looking FF world, like nothing feels too out of place and they all follow the southeast Asian inspired aesthetic.
Unlike in FFVII you have a gloomy technologically advance city like Midgard with a steam punk feel, then there's a bright and sunny beach resort in Costa Del Sol then Yuffie's village which is a Ninja village.
X (Best story, best world building)
VII
VIII
VI
XIII
X > VII > XIII > IV > IX
https://www.thegamer.com/final-fantasy-games-with-the-best-story/#final-fantasy-13
Check the list it surprises me, but remember they're considering only the story here.
Do you agree with this list? For me the best story would have to be 6.
Speaking as someone who actually likes FFXIII - lolno.
I love 13, but I think X's story was better.
My ranking would be
1-FFXIV
2-FF Tactics
3-FFX
4-FFVI
5-FFVII
Tactics EVERYTHING is underrated, not just the story
I’m assuming Tactics isn’t here because it’s numbered entries only. But the lack of 14 is pretty odd tbh.
I wasn’t expecting anything great but that surprised me with how half assed it was lol.
This is definitely a heavily debated topic among FF fans but I have decided to put it out just to see what its like. What triggered me to post this was I came across an article that says FF12 has the best story (someone's opinion) which somewhat surprises me since personally I considered 12 as my most disliked story of the entire FF series, excluding the early FFs like 1 & 2 due to the limitations of that time. Having played 6,7,8,9,10,12,13,16 The FF I think that has the best story is 10 and 16 (i did not want to pick between the 2) and my least fav is 12. This choices is also probably not fair to the earlier FF that I have not played. Feel free to disagree and share your choices, state the FFs that you have played then the story you like best and least.
EDIT: As expected the choices for the best or worse is really divided but the main contender for best appears to be X. Lets just remember to not insult each others personal choice
As much as I love VI, I feel that X has the best story. It's one of the few Final Fantasy games of that era that doesn't have the story collapse into a giant mess at the very end, and feels coherent the whole way through.
FF III has the worst story. The DS version helps a little.
It’s X, amazing story about trying to be happy in a world full of sadness, the thin line between love and hate, and the things we all know but can’t bring ourselves to talk about. My only gripe is that some of the characters have half-baked arcs. Wakka and Lulu’s character development kind of halts about a third of the way through the game. This isn’t just a problem with X though
At least Wakka has an arc. I think if you take Lulu out of the game it remains the same!
Most of XIV's low points aren't the central narrative from ARR-Endwalker. When the core narrative is in motion, it's much more often strong than not, and pound for pound it absolutely has the most highlights of any Final Fantasy. Not to mention some of the best protagonists and villains in the series full stop. XIV is a genuine feat of payoff. Granted, it takes a lot more swings than most, and that can make the comparison feel unfair, but OP wanted a simple answer.
That said, I actually don't care to count XIV as one game or narrative and only do so to accommodate the framework of others. I'd break it down into individual campaigns for any discussion of it on my terms, but it's worth saying when I do that... Well, if I made a top 10 Final Fantasies(spinoffs and all), I can guarantee you Shadowbringers and Endwalker would be in the top 5, maybe even top 3, and Heavensward would still make the top 10. They're great stories. ARR isn't bad and Stormblood is good, but not great. Overall, I can say on story merit alone, XIV is a deserved titan of the series.
Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite story in gaming. Particularly the first half. I'm not sure a game has ever tackled such serious topics like class, war, and political corruption as well.
The fact that the story is told from the perspective of someone trying to find the truth in the history books makes it even better.
I started describing FF tactics as Game of Thrones (when it was peak) in JRPG form. It has political intrigue, betrayal, people fighting for their land, and what they believe in, with a supernatural threat looming in the background and awesome characters.
FFX just comes full circle perfectly and the ending is absolutely nailed. Literally moves people to tears
Best story? It's between Final Fantasy X and XIV. They land their protagonists, they land their villains, and their stories have a lot of meaning. They're very moving stories with complex ideas and very immersive fantasy settings. A lot of Final Fantasies have great stories, I'd even say most of the mothership titles and Tactics are great, but these two are really the most ambitious and accomplished in many ways.
Worst story? It's either Final Fantasy I or XV. Neither is truly bad. I'm glad to have experienced them and I have played them more than once. I is just a little too simple and light on drama, but solid. XV... isn't solid, but some parts of it are great. Mainly Ardyn. This one just really didn't get to cook enough. Even when you fully engage the multimedia narrative, and I have, a lot of parts just demand investment without doing much to earn it. It's a big waste of potential, and that perhaps stings me more than mediocrity ever could.
XV just makes me sad. It’s possibly my favourite, but just imagine a world where the entire universe of that game was actually in the game in chronological order, instead of being a weird mess of like 8 different pieces of media.
I feel like XV and VIII are kinda similar in the sense that they have the potential for a couple of the most powerful stories of all the FFs, but that was hindered by rushed development/development hell/questionable business decisions. And it results in the final games having glimmers of that incredible plan they had, as well as the some rough edges that bring the games down for a lot of people
I say this with VIII prob being my personal favorite FF
I think its not really fair to put 1 (or 2) in worse story category considering the time when it was developed. There is a reason why FF became so successful because of 1
When was the last time you played V? There are so many great character moments in the plot, Galuf moves me to tears every time we get to the scene. I would also argue that Golbez and Exdeath are equally ridiculous, and even though the plot seems a bit hokey IV’s is super hokey too.
I must say I really did not expect the number 1 spot to be FF13. I mean it's one of my favourites, but THE best story? I wouldn't agree.
No one would. They're being edgy.
I wholeheartedly rank XIII’s story at the top. IX comes very close, but the botched final act brings it down too much for me.
I honestly don’t think they’re being edgy, the “writers” don’t know the source material they write about 99% of the time. They just vomit things out and hope for clicks.
Tactics, IX and XIV didn’t even appear in the list and like 80% of FFXV is a bit lite on the story. Kind of a trash tier list.
IX did appear at position 9, but I get your point 👍
Oh it only loaded up from rank 7 onwards for me, my bad
Yeah..... I don't think I can take these people serious anymore.
TheGamer is the trashiest of trash video gaming websites. It’s not journalism and it’s not a passion project, it’s straight garbage.
Okay, I am now convinced these articles are AI generated
That makes two of us.
😂
For me it's Final Fantasy X.
Beutiful, emotional, abigail but yet worldwide story set in atmospheric Spira. The ending touches me everytime I see it, no matter it's the fiftieth time.
Let me know which FF story you love.
Even though it's an MMO I feel like FFXIV has an amazing story. Especially the Shadowbringers expansion. You have a varied cast of characters who you get to watch grow as the story progresses. One of the most interesting villians in any of the games and a feeling of actually connecting with the characters you play with because your character is one of them.
I have thoroughly enjoyed ff14. I'm on the lvl 78 msq, and yes, ShB has the best story so far. It started off so slowly for me, but picked up quickly.
I do the bare minimum to beat the msq, and do all alliance raids, so I'm not as hardcore as most. I really only play for the story, bc it is that good.
I'm at the questline now in FFXIV where I'm looking for Lahabrea in Gridania. I'm enjoying it. It's a more relaxed experience IMO at least so far, as long as you have an understanding of MMOs and how they play and your roles.
It gets more intense but the beginning definitely leads you on slowly.
8 has always resonated with me the most.
Yeah me too. Call me biased but I’m always be FF8 fanboy forever and I will defend that game with my life from anyone who bashed that game lol. Squall’s story just personal wet dream experience for me when I was in high school teenager..
Same. 8 is my favorite. The storyline gets kind of twisted and can feel a bit all o er the place, but thats part of its beauty. The only thing I wish, was that the junction system was more diverse.
Same here.
I love Final Fantasy VI.
I would say 9. Except for half the playable characters being way more important than the other half, it's really hard for me to nitpick it in general, and I particularly think the script and translation have just not been topped. Lastly, I think it just handles its themes really well.
Not considering anything else, just the central narrative, which of the games has the best writing for the storyline?
Final fantasy 6
The only correct answer... sheesh lol
HA HA HA HAAA.....HaaAaa..HAAA
lol that scene ruined it for me
4, 5, 9, and 12 are my personal favorites for the stories.
Though that is definitely tough. If I had to narrow it down, I'd probably say 5 and 9.
I just played 5 like 2 weeks ago. I think it’s underrated.
It’s between 7, 12, and Tactics for me. But I’d go with 7 — the plot and characters had a lot of nuance that really drew me in.
war of the lions
Tactics was pretty amazing I agree
I've wanted a movie of tactics since I was a kid.
it's like the telling of modern day. you have everything from traitors, war, espionage, the church hiding a dark secret, the elite knowing about the dark secret and the devil behind it all.
FF7 has some pretty insane plot point that somehow come together form a (mostly) coherent narrative.
Ecoterrorist are the GOOD guys
The protagonist is not what they seem
The single most fascist company/government in gaming history, maybe all of media
A super soldier trying to destroy the world
An alien trying to destroy the world
A meteor trying to destroy the world
Godzilla-like monsters trying to destroy cities
A race of magical ancient peoples.
A mad scientist doing insane experiments.
Now you're making me want to try it.
I got the remastered free off x box game pass. Good shit.
