Hard Mode Strategies
Playing on Hard Mode in "Final Fantasy VII Rebirth" presents a significant challenge, but it can be rewarding. Players suggest utilizing all available tools, such as enemy skills attached to HP absorb materia, and using Aerith's unique auto ability effectively [1:1]. It's crucial to frequently change your materia loadout for each boss fight and learn to block occasionally. Utilizing chakra and prayer for healing instead of relying solely on potions can also be beneficial
[1:2].
Combat Mechanics and Materia Usage
Understanding and leveraging combat mechanics is key. Many players emphasize the importance of synergy skills, which involve team-up attacks that can be initiated by holding block [1:3]. Additionally, managing your materia effectively is essential; ensure you upgrade your weapons and use healing materia across your party to conserve resources
[2:4]. Staggering enemies is another crucial tactic, so focus on building up stagger meters during battles
[2:8].
Preparation and Grinding
While grinding isn't strictly necessary, it can make the game easier if you're struggling. Some players recommend grinding in areas where enemies respawn quickly or in the Wall Market arena to strengthen your characters [2:5]
[2:11]. Assessing enemies to understand their weaknesses and exploiting those weaknesses is also a valuable strategy
[2:9].
Build Optimization
Optimizing character builds is vital, especially for challenging fights like the final battle with Sephiroth. Players have noted the importance of adjusting builds between fights to ensure characters are equipped with the right materia and abilities for upcoming challenges [5:1]
[5:3]. Taking advantage of checkpoints to tweak your setup can save time and effort in difficult sections
[5:2].
General Tips and Tricks
Beyond specific strategies, there are several general tips that can enhance gameplay. For instance, learning enemy skills such as Big Guard can provide significant advantages in battles [4:3]. Using Hyper on Aerith allows for frequent use of Healing Wind, while Tranqs/Sadness can reduce damage taken at the cost of slower limit charge
[4:1]. These small adjustments can have a big impact on your overall success in the game.
I finished Rebirth at launch but only with Normal difficulty. I am considering revisiting the game, is Hard Mode “hard” or worth it? I mean any tips or advance guidance?
Edit. I am getting “one shot”. Cloud and others are just lvl 50. Maybe i just got bad at it as it’s been long. 😅
I appreciate all the tips, but i just can’t get passed the first boss in the first chapter right now.
Get used to using chakra and prayer to heal your party up
It’s not like unfair levels of hard but I think the challenge is pretty fun. I would say for tips that dont sleep on synergy skils those are the ones where u hold block and do a team up attack
It's significantly more difficult than your first playthrough, I can say that. I died one time in the main story on dynamic difficultly, but hard mode killed me easily over 20-30 times
Totally worth it. The game is designed to be played on hard mode IMO.
Enemy skill attached to hp absorb used by cloud or Tifa. Aerith using unique auto ability and using multiple support materia for the best magic of the area you're in. This and using support materia more like empowerment, dis empowerment etc. Basically you have to use all the tools in your toolbox not just a few you like most. You'll be changing your materia load out more frequently for each boss. Learning to block occasionally will help too.
What does auto unique do with aerith?
Makes her teleport to her arcane ward before using spells.
This is my first ever Final Fantasy game I’m playing, but not my first ever JRPG game I’m playing. I’ve devoted some hours and I’m about 30% in the game and honestly it was fun at first but now it’s gotten quite difficult to this point for me in the sense that I’ve been using many potions and health items, not to mention it’s where most of my in game money I get from battles are going. My first difficult area was where there were two fire flamethrower troops and two turrets when traveling though the subway halls, in which many players did find this part difficult so I didn’t give it much attention and eventually beat it with patience and much time. Not far from this point I’m now in the make reactor 5 section and I’m having difficulties trying to stay away from low health during battles. I’m playing in Normal (not classic), I’d consider myself pretty fast in blocking to minimize damage and switch between characters during heated situations but it’s crucial for me still and I don’t wanna lower the difficulty. When I search up a game through video and watch others play through these sections, they always have more health or deal more damage meaning some way I’m not aware of, they level up and gain strength somehow. Not to mention it’s less motivating to try and complete this game when it’s considered possibly the easiest game in the franchise and is only the first part, there’s no telling how difficult rebirth or the third future part of the game will be for me if I’m already struggling at 30% of the first game. I’d appreciate if I’m told any advice or recommendations from this point and on
Stagger is key.
Also
Grind any area you can quickly respawn enemies in. When you get to Wall Market grind the arena and then just coast through the rest of the game.
You can set the difficulty to easy before entering and spam Aerith’s basic magic attack combo. Everything dies with little interaction. Change back to normal afterwards.
I actually kind of disagree with this. In theory you’re correct, but the developers designed almost every boss to have their stagger meter fill just as they go into another phase. The fmv will cancel any attack you were in process and you lose the atb for it. It also sets their stagger meter back to empty.
It’s incredibly unsatisfying to follow the rules of the game and do all the pressure bs and focus on building up stagger meter to just have it auto cancel with some bs fmv and the boss gets to be back and empty and your empty atb and limits etc you wasted. It even stops the ebony from taking damage sometimes too and there’s a ‘no’ symbol on the hp bard of the boss. It’s really stupid and unsatisfying
Your first point is one of many reasons I dislike Remake/Rebirth combat compared to OGVII
Having predefined “phase cuts” in bosses is fine, the original did it too, but don’t cancel attacks, spells, limits etc.
Nothing worse than queuing a limit, only for one of your party members to normal attack the boss past the phase threshold so the limit goes off during the transition FMV, dealing 0 damage…
This is what I did. I was having fun with the arena matches so I just grinded the hell out of it. It's been a while since I played it, but Hell House was an optional boss in the arena, right? That was the most difficult boss to me. Everything after that was cake.
Hell House is mandatory. It’s the first boss that you kind of have to have a setup ready for it else it’ll be a slog.
I’m glad I dropped this game if grind is the answer. So artificially lengthened
You don't need to grind to get through the game but if you're struggling it's definitely a solution.
Are you using your materia in a good way? Have you upgraded your weapons?
As someone just getting back into gaming, who heavily played all the previous games excluding XIII, I m def finding this game harder. I got into JRPG's and not action RPG's, and this learning skill for staggering and blocking has def been a lot harder than I expected.
And I've just been in the adjusting the difficulty settings myself.
Assess -> read, look at what enemies are weak to. Abuse that Some enemies are easy to guess, others take a bit of work. Some of them are easy to pressure, others just take a beating. A lot of enemies will have warnings when they are about to do something, and you just need to move out of the way. or block.
Ff7Remake isn't an easy game, so don't feel defeated just yet. My recommendation, apart from what others have suggested, is to invest in healing materia instead of potions. When I played I had healing materia on all my characters. Might need to find a place to grind to get the gil, but once you're outfitted you can put that money into other things as you progress.
Hey guys i got 100% in remake earlier this year and it was fun to do but i really wanna also get the 100% for rebirth was hoping anyone thay has gone for this would have some tips and tricks for achievements to hit early on etc. Thanks guys!
I'm working on the same game atm 😅
I am replaying this game again and am just finding out how good a Hyper'ed Aerith is. You can Healing Wind so often. Back when I was a kid I would only use items to get myself out of any status effect. Now I am buying a small stock of Hyper's as soon as I can.
What other cool tips/tricks should I watch out for?
You can get the enemy skill "beta" from the midgarsormr worm when you first go by.
Enemy Skills are well worth learning. Big Guard from the Beach Plugs is great. Casts guard, magic guard and haste iirc.
So tempted to do another playthrough! Really really wish they'd just done a remasters to the standard of the remake but without all the new stuff! Those graphics with the gameplay of the OG would have been an absolute dream!
If you have a decent PC, grab the OG on Steam and then get these mods: https://www.tsunamods.com/ I'm doing a playthrough using them now and it's mind-blowing after not picking it up for 25 years. Full voiceover of the original script, 4k backdrops, character models from the remake. I'm loving it.
Steal a "Right Arm" from the bombs on the Corel rope bridge and use them to One-Shot Dyne.
Conversely, using tranqs/sadness on everyone reduces their damage taken by a lot - at the cost of a slower limit charge up.
Slow works on Demons Gate
Elixir will instantly kill the Gi boss in Cosmo Canyon
Gravity or the Laser Eskill will instantly kill the icicles on disc 2, and is also very effective against the train fight enemies when Cid is leader.
Deathblow (on the ground at Gongaga) + Added Cut(In the great glacier snowy area - go right repeatedly from the start area, then up that hill in the top right when you come to the crossroads area. Look for it on the ground when the path is making you go northwest) makes a great combo and is available much earlier than Double Cut
Speaking of Deathblow, it misses a lot but if an enemy has Stop on it, it cannot evade. Added effect + stop can do this easily, or Clouds Cross Slash is another easy way to apply it.
Sephiroth always uses the same moves in the same order. Bring Destruct materia, as he will always start with Wall.
I did a crazy run beating the entire hard mode in one day but I had just finished normal mode so no Genji Gloves and boosted stategies and some key materia were not max level.
I spent hours and hours in the last couple of fights and was able to reach the last battle with Aerith. But my build for Aerith was too bad and I ended kinda soft locked.
I restarted the whole fight to redo the builds to make Aerith stronger and some other battles on the way that I struggled a lot easier, but then fights I didn't struggle got difficult (due to the rearranging of materia), but I knew that by passing them, I'd be able able to reach Sephiroth and beat him with my new build.
On the last fight I had to play almost perfectly and got lucky with one attack leaving Aerith with 37hp and I was able to heal her.
Sephiroth started his last attack and I was able to send a firaga with Cloud, stun him and cast Transcendence for the win.
Honestly, this was one of the toughest boss runs I ever did. I don't like to compare games, but I'm comparing only my personal experience, to me this was way harder than dlc Radhan on Elden Ring, because I had to make a complete team build and balance it, besides needing to dodge, parry and do on point decision making through out the entire chapter (I love Enden Ring too, and it was pretty hard too, but there I got used to the move set and was able to beat it).
If you'd like to, I can send my build and what was my strategy. This was so rewarding I just wanted to share my experience =D
If you get a game over against the final Sephiroth fight, isn't there a checkpoint for the fight and you can open the menu to change your builds. No need to start the whole gauntlet over?
You have a chance to redo the build when you reach Sephiroth with Zack. But in the final fight I didn't notice it would let me get to the menu :/
At least I was able to reach the final fight with more mana on Cloud.
Tbh, my mind was not functioning well due to the entire hard mode run on one day.
doing hard mode within a day is a crazy feat! I just finished it two days ago and the final fight was a nightmare, partially because I game overed on first phase Sephiroth and didn’t notice that I had ti redo my loadout and found out at phase 4 and maan the last fight was terrible with Aerith having only HP/MP plus and a cure without magnify
I hear you about not comparing games too directly but I think when you’re focusing in on combat or hard fights it makes more sense to compare those elements to other games for that specific discussion
People don’t typically talk a lot about builds here that I see but some days I’m only scrolling by. I welcome it, post whatever you think is helpful and doesn’t take much of your time. People will see it, people will find it in search.
We still have lots of people who haven’t done all of Hard Mode or even played Rebirth and we have people who are waiting for Part 3 so there are plenty who will benefit still
Just finished the game on easy. I decided on “easy” partway through the game because it’s more fun and allows me to be creative instead of trying to be efficient. Also, I can take in what’s going on instead of just trying to survive. The game delivers massive value for the price. I noticed the vast amounts of work that went into creating every scene. I didn’t really care for the mini-games though and I think they could have cut that out; free time is more scarce for those of us that work. Overall, a much better game than even the Remake, which was already great.
I took the same approach for my first playthrough, running on Easy. I wanted to make sure I could focus more on having fun and soaking it all in as opposed to worrying about if I had the right materia for certain mobs and bosses.
I also knew I'd be running through Hard Mode after, I was going to face the punishment sooner or later anyways, lol.
All in all, some areas not as good as others, but all things considered, a fantastic game.
I think this is the right way to do it. You get to relax and enjoy the story and all the wackiness in a frustration free playthrough and then you can get down to the grindstone for hardmode.
My thoughts exactly. This game has such a highly fleshed out world that I didn't want to miss a thing, and then once I absorbed all of that, I would be able to get beat up as I streamlined the Hard Mode story and side quests lol.
> I wanted to make sure I could focus more on having fun and soaking it all in as opposed to worrying about if I had the right materia for certain mobs and bosses.
is this not the point of dynamic mode?
Coming from a Final Fantasy N00B, I’m envious you’re on easy 🤣 I know I can switch it but that’s not my style now that I’m towards the end of the game. I can’t for the life of me understand how someone could play on a higher difficulty than normal! Amazing game nonetheless..
You have to complete normal to unlock hard mode. Then it's a new game+ format, so you are already high level (or getting to max doesn't take long) and you have all the materia and weapons from your normal run.
Hard mode is fun and challenging, and you will already have seen the story so you don't feel compelled to rush through to the end.
I agree it's not for everyone though, some bosses are very frustrating.
I think some enemies only trully shine in higher difficulties, not only in this game, like sometimes I just brute force the bosses but when playing on hard you see new attacks or have to learn a specific gimmick to beat them.
The Mythril Mine boss for instance, I just spammed attacks on my first playthrough and it seemed like any other enemy, but on hard I was forced to learn how use the defense sinergy skill to survive the projectiles;
Same hwew, but the hard level is where the sweet items are at.
Mini games are good to me but I seem to be a very patient 30 year old compared to most on see on reddit. I am find taking my time completing the game because we're gonna have to wait few years for the next one so why rush to finish it. But glad you enjoyed the game too
Mid 30s here. I love the mini games. I like some more than others, but I’m so glad they were included. I don’t understand the hate, you can completely skip almost all of them. If there are a few Materia or items you want from them, you can just focus on those few. Square did a really good job with making them interesting and challenging enough, but also giving players complete freedom over how many or few we want to engage with.
I hope part 3 is just as diverse with mini games, I’d even be ok if there were more.
Minigames are a huge reason why it became my new favorite game.
Legit what ive been asking for out of a new JRPG for many years. Finally delivered and it was incredible.
Varied gameplay is what i want in RPGs. And actual in game rewards for interacting with that varied gameplay. Cannot wait for part 3 and i hope they use some of these ideas in other future games.
I agree the flying in cosmo canyon was quite bad. Never touching that mini game again after getting all the rewards.
Make sure you have at least 4-5 of each elemental materia and max out all your materias.
As for the minigames, there are plenty of guides online of how to cheese the auto battlers, or how to perform well on Cactuar Crush. Never found the situps/gym stuff to be difficult, I'm a rhythm gamer so it kinda is like that.
Any other tips leave a comment and I'll answer as best as I can!
"Didnt find the situps hard " the one thing i was gonna ask about i completly dropped the game cause i want to get that done and out so no tips huh 🫠
I found it easier to just remember the pattern and I closed my eyes. It slowly speeds up to tolerate faster inputs so just start slow and gradually build it up....count it like you would count out a song like 1, 2, 3, 4. Just practice the pattern before you even start the game. Get your finger used to the motion and pattern they have to do. You got it brother!!!!
Tip I have to give is turn off the in game music. Makes it so much easier to count/keep Rhythm. Took me only a couple of tries after doing this 👍
For real! If it wasn’t for his guides, getting the plat would’ve torn my sanity to shreds!
I just have the battle sim left. Other than following the Optinoob stuff, any recommendations?
If all you have is the battle sim stuff then not really as I followed his guides. One thing you'll find is you.canr replicate his strats but sometimes things happen so don't follow them so rigidly and if things go off program, to remember the strat and just keep going. For the battle sims, if you follow his guides, for the Zack/Cloud fight, on round 9 and 10, don't get caught out so much by attacking. The main damage comes from the magic so trying to always hit them can and will get you killed. Focus more on blocking in Prime Mode as it gives you a ton of atb, and only get Berserk status when you're ready to throw some lvl3 magic. If this doesn't make sense it will if you watch his videos.
You got it, just take your time and remember there's no timer for the fights, take it slow and keep your fundamentals in order, its actually not so bad.
Yeah I've had a little look so I'm getting what you're saying.
Keep it flexible, stay patient, win. I shall do my best! Thanks for the heads up
Couldn't agree more with your title. Got the Platinum last year, and the combat simulator at the end is just BS. Congratulations on the Platinum :)
Congratulations on the plat! 😁
Guys I recently started FF7 Remake and I’m really enjoying my first play through. Everything is incredible, except the combat. I mean, the combat mechanics are fine but I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing half the time and I know for sure I am Utilising my squad properly.
I am only an hour or so into the game.
Any tips to help me understand the combat mechanics? I’m pretty well versed in video games, but I haven’t ever played a game with this style of combat.
Thanks in advance.
Use regular attacks to build up ATB. The character you control will build up faster than the other two. That character will also be the target of most enemy attacks, so it is often most effective to block or dodge with your control character while ordering another character to use an ability or spell, because most of your moves can be interrupted by enemy attacks.
Once you get the assess materia, use it on every new enemy. You will be rewarded for assessing and exploiting them (hitting them with the thing they are weak against) and it will make you better at the same time. Many enemies need to be staggered before you can deal real damage and some enemies require certain conditions to be met in order to be pressured. (Pressured means your attacks fill the stagger gauge.)
Each time you find a new weapon, equip it at least long enough to learn its unique ability. (You have to use the ability repeatedly to learn it.) Learn which attack abilities do high damage versus high stagger, which are fast and which are slow, which are better against one target or against a group, which are long range and which deal magic damage.
In general, Cloud is best at physical attack damage, Barret is best at surviving attacks, Tifa is best at staggering, and Aerith is best at magic. But your party frequently changes so adjust accordingly.
While the command menu is open, combat slows to the point that the game is almost paused. Take your time with this and use it to change your lock on target even for normal attacks. You can also assign shortcuts for each character.
A surprising amount of bosses are vulnerable to poison and stop.
Set to wait mode and it will really help you strategize and understand the engine.
Is this in settings or can it be changed in real time during combat?
In settings.
It sounds like you might want to actually experiment with the settings to fit your playstyle. Check things like camera distance (it will increase your field of vision in combat) and other tweaks.
When upgrading your weapon cores, more materia slots is always better, and you should always prioritize them. More materia means more options.
The combat system in this game is beautifully complex, like a game of Chess. You’ll get the hang of it soon with practice.
First, understand that the normal combat is often irrelevant, the most important thing is ATB. This is not FF XV or XVI, the tactical stuff is very important. Especially in the end game you won't even beat normal enemies without using your ATB well. Stagger is everything. Most bosses are designed with a lot of HP because they assume you will stagger them. Always assess enemies to find out their strengths, weaknesses and how to pressure them. Some enemies are simply impossible to beat without assessing them. Find the correct mix of blocking and dodging. Both are usefull in different situations. You also need to understand what roles the characters have. Cloud can do everything, Barret is a tank/support, Tifa is a damage dealer who can stagger well, Aerith(a character you will meey later) is a mage.
Fellow fans, please hear me out and if you can, help me out! I want to state that what I'm about to say is not about something I think are issues with the game, but issues I personally had with enjoying it, and I'm not here to criticize or rant about the game, just ranting about my own experience.
I never played the OG but got enthralled by the characters in my teenage years (some 15 years before the Remake came out) after finding some fan content online. I was super excited to finally play the Remake in 2020, and I still get chills when seeing the opening cut scene. I love love love the Remake, the story and the characters and the combat, and I have hundreds of hours clocked on my PS4 with it, and I was obsessed with challenges like "Tifa solo vs Top Secrets". So you may imagine I waited excitedly and eagerly for Rebirth as well, and got it the day it was published. I bought PS5 especially so I could play it.
Unfortunately from the start, I didn't have as great a time with it as I expected, and as I played on, it felt less and less enjoyable and more like a chore, until I finally stopped playing after the first story scenes in Cosmo Canyon. I loved everything with the story and enjoyed the more linear parts and story boss fights a great deal. I also liked Queen's Blood. However, the open world exploration and side quests started to feel super exhausting and uninteresting, and I got really really frustrated with the mini games. I know they are an integral part of the OG and I can totally respect that (and I'm not criticizing Rebirth for having them), but it still took me by surprise that they were so frequent. I have a hard time learning new game mechanics and I am probably worse than average on mini games in general (as a child I really struggled with some mini games in Sly 3 for example) and to me some parts of the game (Costa del Sol, Junon and Gold Saucer) felt like I was bombarded with the need to do exactly that again and again, and it really hampered my ability to enjoy the game. I had zero motivation to practice and replay any of the mini games as I didn't enjoy them, and got more and more irritated each time a new one appeared. Unfortunately the combat also started to feel unrewarding at some point. I played on Dynamic, and I don't know what happened but at some point the enemies seemed to turn into bullet sponges. It might well be that I simply missed something about the new battle mechanics and didn't play efficiently enough, but if that's the case, it was not apparent to me. As I loved the combat in Remake so much, I was super disappointed to feel this way about Rebirth. The open world started to feel like a repetitive, uninteresting grind. As much as I loved/love the story and wanted/want to see it progress, I felt so burnt out and frustrated after reaching Cosmo Canyon that the thought of having to do some Chocobo mini game (that I had read about being difficult), I gave up.
It's been over a year now, and every time I've thought of picking Rebirth up again, I feel exhausted. I really really want to experience the story though, and I'd love to enjoy the game as much as I did Remake. I don't know if that's possible for me though. It's hard for me to swallow the disappointment and accept that Rebirth is not, for me personally, the awesome experience I wanted it to be. I have a "fear" that if I pick it up and continue from where I left it, I'll just face more and more of what I was bummed out before. I know it sounds silly to have a problem like this with a video game (and sure there are much graver issues in my personal life and the world than not enjoying a video game) but as fans of the series I hope you can understand where I'm coming from and why I wanted to love it.
I wonder if I could make it a little better by adjusting some things (one thing being my expectations of course), and that's why I made this post. I guess most people in this sub enjoyed Rebirth and had a different experience from me, but if you are able to look at the game from my POV, could you see it getting better for me? What should I expect? Are there enjoyable boss fights ahead? Amazing story moments or fun side quests? Mini game heavy parts I can mentally prepare for? Should I change the difficulty to Normal or will it make the combat feel trivial? I remember some open world stuff being linked to Summons but I guess other parts I could just leave be? I don't have the need to platinum the game or 100% anything, but I do have FOMO regarding some stuff, like some possible rewards from mini games that could maybe make combat more interesting (hard to think of examples but something like Fury Ring maybe), so maybe you could point out what I should "prioritize"?
Thank you for hearing me out, I appreciate any ideas!
B line the main story, set to easy if the fights become to difficult. I B lined the game on dynamic and the end got really hard. The last bosses are just a bit much without good materia.
Agreed. I loved the exploration the first time through, but after 100 hours, it got to be a bit much. On my hard mode playthrough, I beelined it through and found it helped not get burnt out.
I did all side content at first playthrough and got a bit burned out in Gongaga. Just continued with the story only, and by the time to go to the Forgotten Capital I wanted to do side quests again. My advice is to just take it easy. I don’t really know if turning to Normal is going to make a huge difference (I played Dynamic too) but maybe just finding some crazy and overpowered materia setups can make it more fun. Just make sure to make a well-balanced party or maybe write down your setups in a notebook so you don’t have to worry about builds every time you are forced to switch characters, this shit alone can burn you out lol.
It's good advice and I'll take it! Lol oh no, I had forgotten about the materia setups... That's a good tip, thank you!
Thank you, I think this is the gist of it, simply put! While reading all the replies I noted that I approached Rebirth more or less like Remake, progressing from one chapter to the next and with a mindset of doing all that there is at once, and not really "realizing" that the chapters work differently than in Remake, in which you have to play from A to B if you want to do the side stuff in a specific chapter.
The actual side quests are rather fun and have great interactions between the characters. If you’re feeling burnt out I would suggest skipping the side activities instead. That would be most of the stuff Chadley gives you to do. You’ll miss out on some materia and summons but you don’t need any of that stuff to complete the game.
Also, if you’re more interested in the story (which is awesome) then why not put the game on easy? You won’t miss any story content, just achievements.
The amount of content in the game is kind of overwhelming, and during one of the fiend fights I hit “restart from checkpoint” instead of “retry battle” without thinking and lost like 3 or 4 hours of exploration and completing activities on the map, and ended up taking a few months break despite being in chapter 12. Came back and did the main story and really enjoyed it. Now I hop on periodically to complete the other activities and work on the last few achievements I have left. I think going through the story once and then working on everything else is more manageable and worth doing.
Before Rebirth came out, this sub was a chorus of doing everything on the first playthrough. Having played Horizon, I warned people against. I advised exactly what you do: focus on the main story.
I was downvoted hard for it. Glad to see people have come to their senses.
I got burned out on normal, chapter 12. I decided to limit my play and set goals. Do this chapter. Complete these quests. Do these sidequests etc. Made it more enjoyable personally. Also make a decision when to grind, complete challenges and continue in hard mode. Again, as small goals .
Hope this helps.
I'm relieved that I'm not the only one! This is a good approach, thank you! When I started playing, I expected to fall in love with it and intended it to be my main game (and played it as such), but maybe I should play it more on the side, in small chunks.
This is exactly what I am doing. I burned out at Golden Saucer last year. Put it down for a year. Now I am replaying (just got to Junon) and am having a lot of fun with it, but I am also playing through other games along side it. I spent 5 hours trying to do phoenix full power the other day and could only manage to kill it on the first power down. But I had loads of fun and really learned the combat system and synergies that I kinda neglected last year when I first played.
My only real complaint so far is regular enemies are so easy that you can't really engage with the deeper mechanics. I don't know why SE insists on locking hard mode to NG+. I do have some hesitations about the whole ship (not a huge fan of QB) and Costa Del Sol sections again, but I may be in more of a receptive mood for the mini games this time since I have more free time available.
My advice, don't marry Rebirth. Treat her as your side piece and only play with her when you're in the mood.
That is true if you don’t mind getting a disappointing chapter 12 low affection experience
