Unlocking Secret Characters in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Vincent Valentine

Vincent is an optional character that can be unlocked through a side quest in Nibelheim. To find him, you need to explore the Shinra Mansion thoroughly. The key task involves unlocking a safe in the left upstairs room and defeating an optional boss [2:1][2:2]. This process requires solving a puzzle or combination lock, which some players find challenging due to the timing involved [1:1]. Once you complete this quest, Vincent will join your party.

Yuffie Kisaragi

Yuffie is another optional character who can be encountered in any forest area in the game, with the first opportunity being just outside of Junon [2:1]. After defeating her in battle, you must choose the correct dialogue options to recruit her. It's important not to use the save point after the battle, as it can prevent you from recruiting her [2:6].

Cait Sith

Unlike Vincent and Yuffie, Cait Sith is acquired through normal story progression. You will automatically get Cait Sith when you reach the Gold Saucer [2:1][2:2]. While Cait Sith is not a secret character, some players are curious about his effectiveness in battle. His second limit break, Slots, can be powerful depending on luck [2:9].

Character Effectiveness

Players have mixed opinions about the usefulness of these characters. Vincent has a good magic stat and long-range weapons, making him suitable for certain strategies [2:5]. However, his limit breaks can be less tactical since he cannot be controlled during them [2:11]. Cait Sith's abilities are considered fun but not always reliable [2:12]. Ultimately, you can main any character and still succeed in the game [2:7].

These insights should help you unlock and utilize the secret characters effectively in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

You don’t have to land perfectly on each number. I thought this during my most recent play through, and thought it was impossible.

You just stop a few short of the number you want, and then advance to it 1 by 1, and then press the confirm button on the number. Then just do the same thing for the other numbers.

Cait Sith you get as part of normal story progression when you get to Gold Saucer

Vincent you get from an optional side quest in Nibelheim involving unlocking a safe in the left upstairs room and fighting an optional boss. Don’t want to say too much because you should try it out yourself but just make sure to save before lol.

Don't worry about if you fail getting yuffie. You can keep encountering her in the forrest and try again; there's no way to permanently miss her.

Vincent has a good magic stat so I usually use him for that purpose which is great because all his weapons are already long range. Cait Sith I’ve never really used despite playing the game an excessive number of times even though he’s featured prominently in the Brady strategy guide lol. I don’t prefer either of their limit breaks though. But definitely try them out you can always rearrange your party!

In addition to not using the save point, you also have to choose the correct responses during the conversation after the battle. I can't remember them off the top of my head, but a quick Google search will provide you with the right ones

Cait Sith is part of normal progression. You'll get him once you get to Gold Saucer.

Vincent is optional, and can be found in the Shinra Mansion in Nibelheim. Search high and low, be thorough, and you'll find him. (Hint: do the sidequest to open the safe).

Yuffie and Vincent are the two optional characters. Yuffie can be obtained from any forest in the game, first one being just outside of Junon. Defeat her when you encounter her, give the correct responses (DON'T USE THE SAVE POINT AFTER THE BATTLE, IT'S A TRAP), and she'll join the party.

When Cloud opens up the door to Claudia's house and it explodes, she says, "Run away, Cloud. You have to leave... you have to live." That is the exact same line Sephiroth said in Remake to Cloud after the Bombing Mission during Cloud's PTSD induced panic attack. So Sephiroth saying that to Cloud is what triggers Cloud to call him a "Bastard" Sephiroth repeated Claudia's final words to Cloud.

I'd use a guide for the Chocobo Hot and Cold items to save time. There's some really cool things there, and it's necessary for some side content. As for everything else, it's probably best experienced without spoilers with how the story unfolds, just save often.

This game is actually really easy. I beat this game when I was like 12 and didn’t even know how the equipments and abilities worked (which is major in this game). I replayed this game this year and didn’t use a guide and still beat it easily. Even if you miss all the secret items you can still get second best and beat the game easily.

The only secret items that really matter are late game and they are mostly found in Memoria. Because on disc 4 you can go to black mage village and just buy really good equipment. Although I would say it is fun to have the characters best weapons and you do learn some skills/abilities that you can’t learn without them.

Does anyone know of a rom hack for FFV that unlocks ALL jobs at the start instead of just the Wind Crystal ones?

I've been playing through FFV and I'm really enjoying it, but I was also kinda sad that some cool jobs only unlock later in the game, so I have less time to use and experiment with them. Does anyone know of a rom hack that unlocks them all at the start? I'm playing the GBA version, but I can get the SNES or any other version if needed.

Not seen a rom hack for this. Likely the best way around it if you are using emulation is a game shark code/action replay code which most decent emulators support.

Out of interest. What's your planned jobs doing this?

2 upvotes on reddit
ZorroDeLoco · OP · 5 years ago

Well I've only thought of a few examples, but I think Summoner and Dancer can work well on the same character because they can both be somewhat comfortably used from the back row, and the Dancer can (sometimes) make up for the Summoner's high MP costs via Mystery Waltz, along with a nice pocket HP-restoring dance if needed.

Other than that, you have some more obvious ones, like Blue Mage and Beastmaster. You can use Control and force an enemy to target yourself, or whoever has the Learning ability.

Also, Mystic Knight and Berserker could be pretty good against enemies with the same elemental weakness. If you give the Berserk ability to a Mystic Knight, they could do some serious elemental damage.

Apart from those, the only other one I can think of would be Red Mage and Time Mage, for a very well-rounded caster.

I think, wth access to all of the jobs at the start, you have a lot more time to have fun playing with some of the cooler jobs that show up later, including jobs like Necromancer. What do you think? Any other good job combo ideas?

1 upvotes on reddit
D
Dazz316 · 5 years ago

Dancer is insanely good against mobs. Not super with bosses but ok. The one that causes stop or paralyze works on most enemies. Actually that might be bard, dancer is ok though.

Music Knight and berserker won't work as you can't cast the elemental swords. You'll need a job which grants passive abilities to work with berserker. I can't think of much off the top of my head. Cover from Knight?

Red mage is good to use early, I often do that. Get that dual cast sooner. Time mage also.

There are a couple of out of the way dungeons with some unique rewards but most of them you can't get at ch3. I really wouldn't worry about it if your exploring properly in the story required areas. Nothing of real value is missable on the wider map beyond some minor cutscenes

Relith96 · 6 years ago

To be honest, there are plenty, most of them are in dungeons or will be acquired through story progession, and there's also some stuff to do post-endgame.

Armor... well, not actually attires, but you can get some very cool accesories from Imperial machines and searching for treasures on the map.

About the Regalia, just speak to Cindy every time she has a quest for you, and sometimes check all the shop's categories to get stuff like new music, some unique items for the Regalia, Ignis' cuisine and more.

To be honest, I won't look online until finishing the story, you can do a lot in chapter 3, but don't farm too much or you'll be OP in no time and will ruin the story experience, trust me.

1 upvotes on reddit

It mostly depends on how good you are at the game. People finished this game at level 1 with, yeah, good knowledge of the game, but really depends on your dodging skills. Remember that there's food when you do camping that can boost your stats in a very important way.

Also, a suggestion to make the game even more fun: there's a skill tree where you can unlock the possibility to use the other Bros as playable characters in combat, look for it and you'll have tons of fun in using everyone every now and then ;D

The Pitioss dungeon near Ravatogh is a "secret" dungeon. It can only be accessed postgame (you need the Regalia Type F to reach it).

Doesnt have any Royal Arms, and the accessory you get, the Black Hood, is only sorta good (assuming you're really good at dodging), but it's basically 3 hours of platforming and puzzles. Or you can speed run it in like 3 minutes.

Whichever challenge you prefer lmao

Yes! Your correct with that statement. However like some people mentioned, this only really applies with celestial weapons. All characters (apart from Auron) will have a damage reduction the lower their current HP is whereas Auron’s damage will increase the lower the HP. I don’t think it’s actually ever mentioned in-game so I’m not surprised if people didn’t know this. It’s not “particularly” useful as once you have max stats, you won’t see a difference but can be helpful to know in certain situations. I also remember reading about someone who tested this by removing the 99k limit using hacks and making Auron hit with true max damage and it was in the millions…

4 upvotes on reddit
L
Lithl · 1 year ago

The Celestial Weapons adjust damage based on either your HP or MP (depending on the weapon).

Yuna and Lulu deal more damage with more MP.

Auron deals more damage with less HP.

Everyone else deals more damage with more HP.

You have to be wielding the celestial weapon to get the effect. You do not have to have upgraded the weapon to get the effect.

While it's described as "more damage", the truth is actually the opposite; Tidus deals 100% of his base damage when his HP is full and ~9% of his base damage when he has 1 HP. Same basic system for everyone but Auron. Auron deals 50% damage at full HP, 100% damage at 70% HP, and unlike everyone else he can actually go above 100% damage as his HP goes down, up to ~216% at 1 HP. (Note: this only applies to physical attacks that are not overdrives. Magical attacks and overdrives don't get this penalty or Auron's bonus.)

The exact formula for everyone but Auron is (10+percentage)/110, while Auron uses (130-percentage)/60.

However, the Celestial Weapons also treat the target as having 0 Defense. So even despite the damage penalty, they still usually come out on top. Note that an armored enemy cuts physical damage by 1/3 unless the attack is from a piercing weapon, which none of the Celestial Weapons have. Armor Break status sets the target's Defense to 0 and removes the armored condition, so if you inflict Armor Break, the Celestial Weapons (other than Masamune) cannot deal more physical damage than any other weapon.

Another hidden weapon stat is crit chance. Most weapons (including the Celestial Weapons) have a 3% chance to crit, which is modified by your Luck stat and the target's Luck stat. Weapons dropped by Dark Aeons have a 6% base crit chance, as do weapons dropped by certain Monster Arena bosses (Malboro Menace, Jormungand, Don Tonberry, Catoblepas, Fenrir, Sleep Sprout, Earth Eater, Greater Sphere, Catastrophe, Th'uban, Ultima Buster, Shinryu, and Nemesis). Weapons dropped by Penance have a 10% base crit chance.

So the chance to crit is (3, 6, or 10) + (your Luck) + (stacks of the Luck skill, max 5) - (target's Luck) + (stacks of the Jinx skill, max 5). The enemy with the highest Luck is Dark Mindy, at 130.

I am too, I've played through at least ten times but only recently found out that Lulu says a special line if you Game Over while still in Besaid, and that Yuna imitates Wakka on the road to the Moonflow. Clive for obvious reasons even if people dont like him

Season 2 DLC:

I consider that when they release a DLC character from a previous game, it is usually with the idea of balancing it or changing it greatly. I think that if changes had to be made to someone on the base roster it would be Panda, since he is the "worst character" and Kuma is almost identical. I would love for them to be more different characters even though they have many similarities. Something like Asuka and Jun or the Mishima.

  1. Story Progression: Many secret characters can only be unlocked by progressing through the main story. Make sure to complete key chapters and missions.

  2. Side Quests: Engage in side quests and optional missions, as some characters may become available after completing specific tasks or helping certain NPCs.

  3. Character Relationships: Building relationships with certain characters can unlock others. Pay attention to dialogue choices and interactions that may influence character availability.

  4. Collectibles and Items: Some characters may require you to collect specific items or complete certain achievements. Keep an eye out for collectibles throughout the game.

  5. New Game Plus: If available, consider starting a New Game Plus after completing the game. This mode often allows you to unlock additional characters and content that were not accessible during your first playthrough.

Recommendation: To maximize your chances of unlocking secret characters, focus on completing all side quests and exploring every area thoroughly. Additionally, keep an eye on character interactions and choices that may affect your relationships. This approach will help you uncover hidden characters and enhance your overall gameplay experience.
