Hogwarts Legacy Character Customization Guide

TL;DR In "Hogwarts Legacy," you can customize your character's appearance at a shop in Hogsmeade, but options are limited to hair, eyes, and complexion. You cannot change face shape, name, or gender [1:1].

Character Customization Options

The customization options in "Hogwarts Legacy" allow players to modify their character's hair, eyes, and complexion at a specific shop in Hogsmeade [1:2]. However, players cannot change the character's face shape, name, or gender after initial creation [1:1]. This has led to some disappointment among players who expected more detailed customization features, such as sliders for facial features and body proportions [2:2].

Limited Customization Features

Many players have expressed a desire for more extensive customization options, including the ability to adjust height, weight, and other physical attributes [2:1][2:2]. The current system is seen as somewhat basic compared to other games, with only preset options available for character creation [3:1][4:1]. Some hope future updates or sequels will offer deeper customization capabilities [2:1][4:10].

Changing Appearance Post-Creation

While the game does not allow changes to certain aspects of the character post-creation, players can visit the shop in Hogsmeade to alter their character's hairstyle and other minor details [1:1]. This feature allows for some flexibility in maintaining your character's look throughout the game.

Community Feedback and Wishlist

Players have shared their wishlists for "Hogwarts Legacy 2," emphasizing the need for more customization options, including voice choices and detailed facial adjustments [2:1][5:1]. The community is hopeful that future iterations of the game will expand on these features to enhance player immersion and personalization [4:10].

Additional Resources

For those interested in seeing examples of character customization, there are official resources like the PlayStation blog that provide glimpses into the game's visuals and potential customization options [4:3].

There’s a shop in Hogsmeade where you can do this

No other shops like that I’m afraid.

You can’t change your face shape, name, or gender, but yeah, pretty much everything else is up for grabs.

I play it a lot, and I have a save for each house just before the hogsmeade troll, because I find the forced stuff before that a bit repetitive, so I go from there and do the troll, then head off to the hairdresser to pick my look, then play on.

I do something similar to the save file thing, but I wait until after I get to hogwarts since I hate going through the tutorial, but maybe waiting until hogsmeade is smarter, lol

(Thought i replied to this early but must've forgotten to send it, lol)

The main tedious things (IMHO) you skip by delaying it to before the troll (rather than just before or after sorting) are the accio game and the run to hogsmeade.

Most stuff after that is fun. Crossed wands, restricted section, etc. etc.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 wishlist

Posted by gamerguy287 · in r/HarryPotterGame · 7 months ago
  1. More customization options

How are you going to tell me that Tony Hawk Underground 1 had more voice options than Hogwarts Legacy did? How come there wasn't any better way to modify the MC's face? Like sliders for cheekbones, for your eye length, eyebrow height, and every other facial feature. Make sliders to make your character shorter, taller, skinnier, fatter, and etcetera. I loved the customization here, in Hogwarts Legacy 1, but it felt a little too simple and barebones. Like Miis from the Nintendo Mii channel were more customizable than this. Outfit customization was fine. I get a reason why facial hair wasn't added, its because we are a fifth year. But aren't fifth years the age where they can hit that growth spurt and start growing at least some peach fuzz?

  1. Companions in free roam mode

How come I couldn't take Sebastian out to fight alongside me at Bandit camps? How come you cannot build friendships with certain characters? I wish to see something like Grand Theft Auto 4's system. Like send an owl to your fellow classmates "Hey, want to go hang out?" The more you hang out with your classmate, the more stuff you'll unlock. Perhaps if the glossary of spells in Legacy 2 is much larger, we could unlock certain spells by hanging out with people from different houses. Perhaps we could unlock clothing items and/or abilities by doing this.

  1. More challenging gameplay

I 100%-ed this game on hard. Didn't feel too hard. Yeah I died a few handfuls of times. But that don't mean it was hard. I've played more challenging games than this. I want to see an actual hard mode, and perhaps even add a mode that's one step higher, and in this much harder mode, it's a one hit K.O. mode. You gotta be quick with your wand work and careful with what you spend your talent points on. Wiggenweld potions don't exist in this one for the sole purpose of it being a one hit, you're dead mode. Also, would love to see a curfew in place for the Hogwarts castle. Make it so that way at night, if you are seen by a professor, you either lose house points, or you're sent back to your common room. Some kind of punishment.

  1. A bigger map

Trust me, this map is pretty big. But I'd have loved to see more urban sprawl towns. More towns that weren't "rural" looking. Give us the option to use Platform 9 3/4 to go more places. I'd love to see more use of the PlayStation 5's/Xbox Series X's power. I feel like just seeing grass and such all the time is just overdone. Would have also loved to see a town atop a big mountain.

  1. Please start me off as a first year and let me work my way up to a seventh year.

Self explanatory.

  1. More interactive gameplay
  • Potions making

I'd love to see a "Cooking Mama" or "Kingdom Hearts III Little Chef" element to brewing potions. Make it so when you go to brew a potion, you first select how many you want to make (so that way you don't go through this one at a time [LOOKING AT YOU ANIMAL CROSSING DIY MECHANIC!]), and then you start the interactive potions brewing. If you fail to follow instructions, your potion comes out with 25% potency, if you fail a couple instructions, your potion will come out with 50% potency, and if you do great, your potion will come out perfect.

  • Alohomora

I liked the interactive puzzle for Alohomora, but however, the "Level 1," "Level 2," "Level 3," thing was disappointing. The same ass puzzle with all three locks? I was hoping to see three different puzzles with these three lock types. Can keep one at the spinny lock thing, perhaps with two, we can do something like lifting lock pins up until we see or feel something. * For console, it would be the harder the vibration, the closer you are. For PC, you could make the green and/or red orb goes up or down. Level 3, could be a sort of a maze puzzle where you rotate the maze and the ball has to fall into a certain place.

  1. More time in the Hogwarts castle. More quests in the castle, please. Also make the castle feel a little bigger somehow than how big it feels in Legacy. Also, please make it more accurate to how the books and/or movies make it look.

These are just some things I'd hope to see in Hogwarts Legacy 2. What are some things you'd love to see in Hogwarts Legacy 2?

There is a screen from character creation showing 24 character presets in the character creation screen with a wooden desk with rolled and unrolled parchment paper, a green oil lamp and a large fabric banner hanging on the wall.

If you opt out of using any of the 24 character presets, then the next options available is your character choice and body, followed by hairstyle, then facial adjustments, then facial godlike growth adjustments, the character background that Obsidian showed, character review and a start game button or similar.

But nothing showing all the available sliders, adjustment, scaling etc. yet.

There is character creation

But I doubt they are showing it before launch because some trolls got mad because of male pronouns on a male character, and I doubt they want bad press again

1 upvotes on reddit

Angzt · 7 months ago

The preview event for press and creators from back in November did have character creation but people weren't allowed to capture footage. Likely because it was still a work in progress.

From what people reported, the visual customization options seemed pretty standard. With the added Godlike customization since you're aspected to some unknown God which shows in fungal growths on your head. Those are also customizable.

As far as gameplay goes, you choose between Human and Elf for your race. There are no classes but you get to choose one of a few backgrounds that determine your starting gear and often come up in dialogue. You then get to allocate your stat points and that seems to be it.

Background also determines base stat allocation but not by much.

Also excited to see all the hairstyles haha. And i hope we get to choose a pet (more options than just an owl) as well. To me all these little things will make me feel more immersed in the game.

I noticed in some other threads people dreading their voice line choices.

Well you can change all that by going to the 'Mirror' that is part of the 'Guild Hall' in your home base town.

The tile is self explanatory I think so what would you people like for the sequel

I personally want.

More voices and different accents Body sliders for hight aswell I would like facial hair( This isn't really needed tho) More wand types More in depth school classes A companion system A better pet system

About the RPG systems I would like choices to matte my problem here is, is Hogwarts legacy trying to be A hardcore RPG or an Action RPG because then I understand why choices isn't that big of deal

But I would like the side quests decision to hold more impact tho

I had just briefly mentioned this to a friend, and even tho I know its rumored to be in “accordance” with the new Harry Potter TV show, I wish it were a take on maybe working as an auror for the ministry. There are so many other avenues that the Harry Potter universe can explore. Personally, I think an RPG about stopping some new dark wizard cult while solving other cases as an auror would be excellent. You could decorate your own section of the department of ministries (to fill the room of requirement niche), travel to London/surrounding cities and rural areas, explore the wizarding underground if there is one, etc.

I think it could brew some really neat gameplay scenarios rather than just being a god student who stops a bad guy and saves the school.

Won't the new Hogwarts legacy just be the 6 year of this game it would be stupid to involve the next game with Harry Potter because then you can't really do anything because it has to follow the Harry Potter story

4 upvotes on reddit
x-Zephyr-17 · 2 months ago

No, I don’t think it would be just a sixth year for our Hogwarts legacy character. It would be far easier and more creative to do a new main character during a different time. I hope the next game isn’t just Harry Potter, but Warner bros did mention something about it being in “accordance,” whatever that means

I would like some variation on the romance system or friendship system. Of course, they are all minors, so it shouldn't be more than the last dialogue with Poppy, for example, when you both agree to have some butter beer in three broomsticks. But you can't ruin your relationship with character if you just do their quests. Also I would like your house to have more value. It's just nothing to do there while the location are beautiful themselves. More people in a room, some scenes like in a Harry Potter movie when they are just chilling together. Could be like pajama parties for Hryffindor or some social gathering I a main room for Slytherin. There was absolutely no need to get back to your room while it can be some safe space. I am a Slytherin student in a game, but there was only Sebastian for the real friendship. Ominis is a cutscene guy. The girl just gives you a broomstick challenge, and that's it. You mostly travel and speak with the guys from other houses, and there are like 5 of them total. The ending proves my point, it felt like there are 10-12 people in a whole Hogwarts

4 upvotes on reddit
goffickkkk · 2 months ago

I’d romance Ominus if I could (my ravenclaw would at least, my crazy gryffindor girl would go for Sebastian so they can go around the world using dark curses together)

2 upvotes on reddit
goffickkkk · 2 months ago

I’d also be besties with Imelda if I could even though (or because) she’s a bitch at first. Poppy’s ok, a little too meek for my murderous MC to be friends with. Which sounds weird bc we kill a bunch of poachers together. If I were a boy (or girl I guess) I probably wouldn’t romance her bc she gives the vibe she’s into centaurs. Plus I could never show her my room of requirement and let her realize I’m out here poaching more beasts than the poachers. Amit is a nerd and lies about his actual abilities, which is a red flag in the romance dept - what else would he lie about his abilities in, you know? Natsai is actually quite pretty but we need to fix her hair to flatter her bone structure more, and something about her gives me the ick. She’d be a helicopter friend who always tells me to stop robbing houses. Anytime I’m on a quest with her I worry using unforgivable curses bc she seems like a narc. Garrett Weasley is fun but too loud and would blabber to his auntie about me or try to help and fuck it up somehow. Puffskein Dunkein amd the gobstones girl are absolute non-options.

1 upvotes on reddit

_ManicStreetPreacher · 2 months ago

Everything you mentioned. Also an actual house point system. More attention to the actual Hogwarts and the immediate grounds around it, some kind of honor system perhaps? Makes no sense that I can cast unforgivable curses and nobody gives a damn about it. Better dialog in general because it sounds extremely robotic. The common room playing a more important role. Quidditch. The basic ability to have meals and butterbeer at The Three Broomsticks, eat breakfast/lunch/dinner in the Great Hall.

I just want them to play Bully a few times and use that as a blueprint. That's how you do a school simulator. I don't know how a game from 2006 feels more alive and polished than a game from 2023.

"just want them to play Bully a few times and use that as a blueprint. That's how you do a school simulator. I don't know how a game from 2006 feels more alive and polished than a game from 2023."

I'm surprised they didn't play Bully..that is pretty much a perfect example of how they SHOULD have went about creating this game.

HL should have been Bully at Hogwarts yet they turn around & do the complete opposite...it's like creating a racing game..only you the player doesn't get to race...you only get to watch it..wtf???

In a way HL feels more like a movie unfolding rather than a game where the player has any agency.

Plus the castle while spectacularly designed...is nothing but a giant museum with nothing for the player to return to. Oh do you want to sleepin your own bed?? PFFFFFTT not in this castle..off limits to us.

I think one big problem is they were looking to make it as accessable as possible...which shouldn't mean what the final product gave as arsult of that...plus I don't think WB'S had faith in the studio or didn't have faith in a single player RPG..no they'd rather commit to the narrative that only live service games brings in all the money....yes because their track record has been littered by successful Live services hasn't it??

I want the sequel to resume our journey...no skipping to 7th year, our MC has personality & we can explore our ability REGARDLESS of the keepers wishes & learn much more spells, potions etc the companions stories resume or come to a close & we meet new students who we can make companions with. Crossed wands is a PERMANANT activity as well as having other after school classes. We go dunegon crawling with both students & Professors

Our enemey could be a ravid follower of Rookwood who's out for our blood with Harlow possibly taking charge of theashwinders ( not sure if he's locked up or not). This time it's not about sealing the repository, it can be about siphoning off the ball of energy & studying it..with help of course. Plus we get to talek with Isadora..no we didn not get her story especially for a group of sanctimonious pricks. She tells her side & what really happened & WE get to decide for ourselves what path we gtake instead of being DECIDED for us.

3 upvotes on reddit
JustAStupidName7 · 2 months ago

I'd love if the sequel had the ministry as antagonists with agents from the Dep of Mysteries and Aurors after us to study our use of AM. It'd be the perfect excuse to explore the Ministry and have a climax similar to Order of the Phoenix. Of course, this is just for the main story; there's a lot they can do on top of that.

Don't get your hopes up. You can suggest the change in feedback channels, but don't trust the people saying they are "sure" and "confident" we'll have fully customizable cosmetic slots for characters.

What was in the tech test was quite fleshed out. It would take a crazy amount of work to rework the system. Maybe they are putting their heads down and grinding to make it happen, but it's unlikely.

I've seen the sentiment multiple times in this subreddit that some people are "sure" it's been fixed and that they are confident the cosmetic system has changed, with no confirming information past vibes.

Even worse, how long and difficult it is depends on what your base cosmetic setup is. I have friends who need hours and hours of grinding to finish theirs, but I've finished all of my hair color change quests in under 3 hours, both the Bleaching step and the Coloring step. The RNG is really unfair

this is what i'm saying! my [ginger hair] trait means i have to use stronger and more expensive [bleach] items compared to others to get the same effect. Not to mention those people whose characters have the [curly hair] trait - i've heard this is a pain in the ass too.

I only have the [Curly Hair III] trait and I hate it. I feel for everyone with the [Curly Hair V] especially with all the baseless assumptions people make about unrelated traits of their characters, and the increased aggro they have to deal with.

Don't even get me started on all the crap you've gotta go through to change your gender. Like, your default character is randomised (terrible decision btw), if someone isn't the gender they want to be, don't make them jump through so many hoops for it.

That one game did it better, you get to go on a little crusade through hell to get the flower you need for the gender change potion. As it stands that is an easier method than how it currently is in Outside.

And the Republican guild is, for some reason, anti-customization, and doesn't want people to change their avatar's sex. Ugh, so stupid.

Literally! And other players are so rude about it as if they think you get to choose at the start of the game or something.

Fr, it's like, we're all playing the same game right? Can't we at least be civil about this?

Wait till you see the price tag on some of those cosmetic options.

Games already pay-to-win. Even just looking the way you want can cost tons of cash

hogwarts legacy character customization guide

Key Considerations for Character Customization in Hogwarts Legacy

  1. Character Creation Options:

    • Appearance: You can customize your character's facial features, skin tone, hair style, and hair color. Take your time to explore different combinations to create a unique look.
    • Gender: Choose between male and female characters, which may influence certain interactions and dialogue options in the game.
  2. House Selection:

    • Your character will be sorted into one of the four Hogwarts houses (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin). This choice impacts your character's story and interactions, so consider the traits associated with each house.
  3. Wand Customization:

    • You can customize your wand's wood type, core, and length. Each choice can slightly affect gameplay, so think about what fits your character's personality.
  4. Skills and Abilities:

    • As you progress, you’ll unlock various spells and abilities. Customize your character's skill set based on your preferred playstyle, whether it’s combat-focused, stealthy, or supportive.
  5. Gear and Outfits:

    • Throughout the game, you’ll find or earn different gear pieces that can be equipped. These not only change your character's appearance but also provide various bonuses. Mix and match gear to create a look that reflects your character's personality.

Takeaways:

  • Spend time in the character creation menu to ensure your character feels unique and personal.
  • Consider how your house choice and skills align with your gameplay preferences.
  • Regularly update your gear to enhance your character's abilities while maintaining a stylish look.

Recommendation: Experiment with different combinations during character creation and throughout the game. This will help you find a style and build that you enjoy, making your journey through Hogwarts more immersive and fun!
