How to Make an XP Farm in Minecraft

TL;DR

  • Use mob spawners or create farms like Enderman, Pigmen, or Guardian farms for efficient XP collection.
  • Tutorials are available on YouTube for specific designs.

Mob Spawner Farms

A common method for creating an XP farm is utilizing mob spawners found in dungeons. The key is to ensure the player remains within 16 blocks of the spawner to keep it active while moving mobs away quickly to allow continuous spawning [5:1]. A typical setup involves digging a pit below the spawner and using water streams to move mobs into a killing area where they can be easily dispatched [4:5]. This method can be slow, so optimizing the design with bubble columns or additional layers can improve efficiency [5:2][5:3].

Enderman Farms

Enderman farms are popular due to their high XP yield. They are typically built in the End dimension, leveraging Endermen's tendency to spawn in large numbers. A simple design might involve a spawning platform that funnels Endermen into a central point where they can be killed [2:1][4:4]. These farms can rapidly generate XP, allowing players to reach high levels quickly.

Pigmen Farms

Pigmen farms are constructed in the Nether, often above the bedrock ceiling. They exploit Zombie Pigmen's aggressive behavior when provoked, causing them to swarm towards the player and fall into traps for easy collection [4:3][4:7]. Tutorials for breaking through the Nether roof and building these farms are available online [4:3].

Guardian Farms

Guardian farms are more complex but offer substantial rewards in terms of XP and drops. They require clearing out an ocean monument and setting up a mechanism to funnel Guardians into a kill chamber [4:2]. While labor-intensive, they provide a steady stream of XP once operational.

Resources and Tutorials

Numerous tutorials exist on platforms like YouTube, offering step-by-step guides for various types of XP farms. Searching for your Minecraft version along with "XP farm" will yield many results [4:1]. Specific tutorials mentioned include those for Enderman farms [2:1] and Pigmen farms [4:3].

ORIGINAL POST

Hey guys! First time poster here, long time Minecraft player. I’ve recently dabbled in redstone work/building farms and such and have been trying to figure out making a proper xp farm for my survival realm, and NOTHING seems to be working. I’m going nuts so I figured I’d ask here, if anyone has any advice / links to tutorials or whatever, anything helps!

The easiest thing is to build a mob farm and make the mobs drop to one health or make a massive smelting array

Enderman farm, a basic mob farm is my first one, guardian farm (a bit too much, it's a big old project), or just an xp grinder made from a mob spawner

you have to break the nether roof (it can also help you with moving from location to location)

and then make a pigmen farm here (I used this tutorial. This is also what Iskall used on hermitcraft)

Dig a 9^3 cube around a skeleton spawner and funnel the skeletons into a water stream. Then use soulsand bubble columns to yeet the skeletons up 23 blocks and then drop them 23 blocks. They will be left on 1HP and you can punch them as they come or let them build up and mass execute them with a sweeping sword. You might want to /gamerule entitycramming 0 so you can them build up without auto dying.

I AFK'd for about an hour when I was having dinner last night and it took me from lvl29 to lvl 43 including disenchanting dropped gear. I also have piles and piles of bones and arrows and more bows and leather armour than I know what to do with. The lag was a bitch though. If you want to AFK on SMP without getting banned for lagging the server then stand next to where your skeletons drop and run a macro that autoclicks once every half second or so.

Need help with xp farm

Posted by [deleted] · in r/Minecraft · 6 months ago

Not one of those players who builds a massive mob trap/xp farm, so I’m just looking for ideas for an xp farm under a dungeon, atm I just have a hole underneath it, then I just kill them as they spawn, problem is, only 3-4 will spawn at once, it’s a skeleton spawner, just need ideas on how to make it more efficient

dig it down (i think) 9 blocks, that should push the current mobs out of the spawner rage at the fastest rate.

its going to be very slow for xp still, if you want fast xp, look up "ticking gold farm bedrock" it will be 100 times faster.

hm. you could try making the spawning platform larger or adding more layers? youd get more mobs but they wouldnt all be skeletons

So the trick to building a farm with a spawner is that you need (1) a place where the player can stand and keep the spawner active, and (2) a mechanism to quickly move the mobs away from the spawner so the spawner can keep spawning new mobs.

The player needs to be standing within 16 blocks of the spawner, but the mobs need to quickly be moved at least 9 blocks away either vertically or horizontally.

So what you want is for the mobs to spawn, immediately fall at least 9 blocks below the spawner, and then go through a water stream to a water elevator at least 10 blocks horizontally away from the spawner, and then bring them to the player (standing in a fixed spot, no more than 16 blocks way from the spawner) in some way where the mobs can't hurt the player but the player can kill the mobs. You can have mobs go up a bunch and then be dropped 23 blocks as the final step, which will knock a skeleton or zombie down to 1 heart so you can instantly kill them. And then have them standing on a hopper to collect their drops.

The SIMPLEST setup is to just have a pit dug down 9 blocks below the spawner and use water to push the mobs to a particular spot in a little pit they can't jump out of. The player can stand nearby and just wait for mobs to appear and kill them. This is easy to do within 16 blocks of the spawner: a very simple setup would have the hole be 11 blocks down, 5 blocks away in both horizontal directions, and the player standing 2 blocks away from that. The distance to the spawner is about 14.5, so it should still be active.

I don't know much about how grinders work in bedrock but let me tell ya, gathering quartz is a very good way of getting xp. Otherwise, YouTube tutorials on mob grinders would be your best bet.

Spawner based xp farms are fairly simple and usually redstone-free. Alternatively if you haven't found a spawner, making a traditional dark room mob farm shouldn't be too complicated either. YouTube is your friend.

Here's a useful video on Trident Farming. It's one of the perks Bedrock Edition has over Java Edition.

Find a spawner, set it up properly, make your Trident machine, and go afk. I've been at it for ~2 hrs now with a skeleton spawner and I went from lvl 0 to 47 without pressing a thing.

Raid farm

Both working on the latest version of bedrock, ender ender is more xp but raid farm is an absolutely insane source of emeralds too

Disenchant the armour for a lot more xp if you use the raid farm

I'd actually recommend an xp bank. Real simple, based off furnaces. Very expandable and can accumulate xp very fast if made large enough.

Important concepts:

  1. Burning anything in a furnace creates potential xp
  2. That xp can only be gained by physically pulling the end product from the smelter
  3. If you hook a chest to a furnace via hopper on the bottom of the furnace, it will hold on to all the xp of the product it puts in the chest.

Cactus farms are supremely easy to make, and if you make one that feeds into a furnace (making loads of green dye) you can start banking xp.

Add an overflow chest to the furnace by connecting it with a hopper, so that any green dye will flow into the chest.

Place a redstone torch immediately beneath the hopper that is leading to the overflow chest. Place a lever that can active/deactivate the torch at will. Make sure the torch is off.

Fuel the furnace however you see fit. Bamboo farms would make this fully automatic, but will consume a lot of space if you want it to keep up with the cactus.

Basically wait for the green dye to fill up the chest (and don't take any of it out). Once you're ready for some xp, flick the lever to turn on the torch and the hopper will lock, allowing you to pull one piece of green dye directly from the furnace. When you pull that one piece out, you'll get the xp for all the green dye in the chest below rather than for just the one piece.

Once you pull the piece out and get your xp, empty the overflow chest and flick the lever to unlock the hopper and let it prep again.

A full double chest of green dye will bank you enough xp to go from level 0 to 42. Instantly. You could expand this to hold more green dye (getting you to a higher level) and expand the furnace system and cactus farm to make it load faster. Mine currently gets me to level 50 or so and is ready once every 30 min, and I don't have to be there for any of it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Hope this helps.

XP farm recommendations as an overwhelmed Java player?

Posted by NateyPerry · in r/Minecraftfarms · 7 months ago

I want an xp farm that’s not in the end preferably, and can work on a realm with my friends. I haven’t made an xp farm in forever but I remember the standard mob farm from back in the day was kinda slow, so if there is a faster one with little downside in terms of technical ability or is not monstrous in terms of blocks needed I’d love to know. I’ve looked up farms already but I get a million different xp farms that pop up and I’m not even sure which ones even still work in the current Minecraft patch.

PredictablyIllogical · 7 months ago

Largely depends on what you are looking for. You said not in the end and current patch (meaning no outdated versions of the game). You mentioned multiplayer which may rule out two dimension farms.

Do you want one where you get xp while AFK? Are you planning on using an autoclicker?

If you use mods you can download raid reversion mods that restore raid mechanics to how they were 1.20 and below

After that you can build a stacking raid farm that will give you more than enough Exp

(Just for context I'm level 1732 in my current hardcore World)

Can't go wrong with an enderman farm. They are super fast, and pretty easy to build. As long as you have an elytra there isn't really any risk of falling to the void.

Here's a tutorial for a pretty simple one >> https://youtu.be/nh8voJScSbw?si=u1h5ObzmQAQsy5o9

How do i make an XP farm in minecraft

Creating an XP Farm in Minecraft: Key Considerations

  1. Choose a Mob Type: Decide which mobs you want to farm for XP. Common choices include:

    • Zombie/Skeleton Spawner: Found in dungeons.
    • Enderman Farm: Built in the End dimension.
    • Blaze Farm: Built in Nether fortresses.
    • Passive Mobs: Cows, pigs, and chickens can also provide XP when bred or killed.
  2. Location:

    • For spawners, build your farm close to the spawner (within 16 blocks).
    • For passive mobs, ensure you have enough space and resources to breed them.
  3. Farm Design:

    • Mob Spawner Farm: Create a dark room around the spawner to maximize mob spawning. Use water channels or trapdoors to funnel mobs into a killing chamber.
    • Enderman Farm: Build platforms in the End where Endermen can spawn, and use a trap to collect them.
    • Blaze Farm: Create a platform in a Nether fortress and use walls to contain the Blazes.
  4. Killing Mechanism:

    • Use a player-friendly method to kill mobs, such as:
      • Water Streams: To push mobs into a lava pit or a drop chute.
      • Killing Chamber: Where you can hit mobs safely (e.g., using a 2-block high ceiling).
  5. AFK Setup:

    • If you want to farm XP passively, set up an AFK (Away From Keyboard) spot where you can safely collect XP without being attacked.

Recommendation:

  • For beginners, a simple Zombie/Skeleton spawner farm is a great start. You can easily build a dark room around the spawner, use water to funnel mobs into a chamber, and collect XP and loot efficiently.

Tip: Always light up the surrounding area to prevent mobs from spawning outside your farm, which can reduce efficiency.
