Professional Dermatology and Treatments
K-pop idols often maintain their skin through regular visits to dermatologists and specialists who provide personalized skincare advice and treatments. These can include laser surgeries, injections like glutathione, and other cosmetic procedures that help clear blemishes and scars [1:1],
[2:4]. Expensive treatments are common among idols, with some visiting clinics multiple times a week for skin maintenance
[1:4].
Makeup and Editing
The appearance of flawless skin is frequently achieved through professional makeup application and digital editing. Makeup artists use techniques to create poreless-looking skin, while lighting and camera angles further enhance the appearance [1:1],
[3:2]. Additionally, many photos and videos undergo heavy editing and filtering to meet beauty standards
[2:6],
[4:5].
Avoiding Sun Exposure
Idols often avoid sun exposure to maintain fair skin tones. This includes staying indoors, using sunscreen, and wearing protective clothing during outdoor activities [2:1],
[5:5]. Stage lighting also plays a role in making idols appear paler than they naturally are
[4:2].
Skincare Products and Routines
While genetics and diet contribute to skin health, idols typically follow extensive skincare routines involving high-quality products. Commonly used items include SPF creams, moisturizers, retinoids, and vitamin C serums [3:4],
[5:1]. However, these routines alone cannot achieve the level of skin perfection seen in idols without additional treatments and makeup
[5:9].
Public Perception and Reality
Despite the polished image presented, many idols face skin issues due to stress, lack of sleep, and constant makeup application [1:2],
[2:3]. Some idols openly show their natural skin, including acne scars and blemishes, which helps humanize them and counter unrealistic beauty standards
[1:3].
does anyone know some effective skin care routine that an idol uses ? it could be any idol really , just one who has a very effective skin care routine yet also affordable .
if anyone knows , ty .
A combination of great dermatologists, expensive treatments, complex (and expensive) skincare routines, and really good lighting/camera angles/editing.
Lots of idols, even after all the skincare products/routines, still have bad skin because 1) they're human and 2) a lack of sleep, constant makeup, and an inconsistent diet make them more prone to breakouts. I know a lot of people don't like to talk about it but tons of idols use filters to smooth out their skin even when they're barefaced. That coupled with good camera angles and great lighting make their skin look flawless when it's just as bumpy and patchy as a lot of other people's.
I imagine that the only idols who have truly "flawless" skin are the ones who naturally have good skin and follow a good skincare routine. Following an idol's routine would just be expensive and time consuming, especially when you should tailor your routine to your skin type.
genetics, hundred dollar treatments & products
and if those don’t work? blur effect in photoshop. (kidding)
I honestly appreciate idols who don’t mind showing their bare faces on camera and you see they have acne scars or pimples. Perfection on stage is one thing, but i love them more when they LOOK normal =)) idk if some idols just don’t care about it or they don’t want to go to these specialists hahhaa
They go constantly to specialists, also genetics.
Yeah, SHINee's Key has amazing skin and he said it's because he gets (I assume expensive) treatments for it twice a week.
He also has an extensive daily routine and he uses lots of products as well.
Do you know how many idols are in the industry? It annoys me when people just chalk all of it up to genetics, with all the makeup, stress, and poor diets it can’t just be genetic. It’s because of dermatologist and treatments
And im annoyed with your attitude. If you felt so much the need to disagree with me (while i already stated that they see specialists) please do it with kindness.
For some they naturally have good skin, for a lot of famous people they go to a high-end dermatologist and also certain injections help prevent acne. The people around me and my personal life who have the best skin either attend a really good dermatologist or it’s genetics. I to have very bad skin right now and within the next month I’m going to the dermatologist because I’ve tried multiple products from high-end to extremely cheap and nothing has given me good results.
Yes I did the same. 1 year of horrible cystic acne and I couldn't deal with it anymore. Started seeing a dermatologist regularly this January. It's worth it.
Honestly I can’t wait I don’t have acne issues per se really more uneven skin tone and a few acne scars. Because I only really get acne during my period.
Having a skin routine beyond cleansing and moisturizing is not as important as most would believe.
Most people can get very clear skin, its just a question of if you can spend tens of thousands of dollars a year to keep it up.
I’ve seen some of them used to have a tan but after debuted they become white??? Haha how is it possible
This and makeup, insane editing and many other beauty procedures. They have the money to do everything. Not to mention most of their photos and videos are heavily whitewashed. It's the Korean beauty standard killing our self esteem.
exactly, along with glutathione injections, it's the makeup, editing and cosmetic procedures. looking good and conforming to the korean beauty standards are required for their jobs - so their agencies as well as idols themselves invest a lot in their looks.
They’re often not white washed. The stage lighting themselves tend to wash people out, which is why makeup artists oftentimes use darker foundation and go heavy with makeup because stage lighting turns people into blank canvas.
I actually worked in entertainment for 15 years in production, and dealt with celebrities and makeup artists daily. Like at the biggest studios.
Once celebs come off stage, away from lighting, they don’t look as fair.
Some people speak too confidently about things they have no idea about.
Genetics, facials and regular dermatology visits, mostly healthy diet, regular exercise, makeup, lighting and editing.
Idols get very few hours of sleep daily, so many actually have pretty terrible skin. They have youth on their side, but many deal with acne and texture issues too. Glutathione injections help reverse a tan, but doesn’t bleach skin.
Many idols also look lighter due to harsh stage lighting. Once they come off it, they appear darker.
I worked in entertainment and dealt with celebrities constantly.
This is the answer. Basically frequent visits to their dermatologists for lasers, injections, and IV drips.
Indoors all the day erday until debut. Avoiding the sun is the best way to do it. Also, they get facial treatments. Using products alone won't achieve the super smooth skin many have.
Actually retinoids can greatly transform the skin. I wouldn’t homogenize all skincare as they all do different things to the skin to get a specific appearance. Also sunscreen exists, I doubt they are just locked indoors all day.
Sunscreen doesn't prevent you from getting dark. It slows it down and prevents damage. That's why you see many celebrities cover their arms and faces during outdoor activities.
wouldn’t homogenize all skincare
Yes, this really depends on the person's baseline and skin health. But, it's the same for retinoids. It's not recommended for everyone, especially those with sensitive skin or have frequent sun exposure. It should be completely avoided for pregnant women too. The strength should be prescribed by a derma or professional. Long-term/chronic use of retinoids, especially high strength ones, can also be more damaging to the skin -- it weakens the skin barrier and significantly increases photosensitivity.
Glutathione injections only help with reversing sun tans, not with texture, acne and other skin issues.
correct, when op said 'clear their skin', based on the rest of their post, i thought they were referring to going from tan to clear as white skin.
Do glutathione infusions achieve the same? I have been religious about sunscreen on my face and neck but less so on my arms/shoulders and chest, and it isn’t TOO much of a difference but it’s enough to make me feel a bit weird. I’m extremely fair naturally but I walk outside a lot and there’s a definite shade discrepancy going on lol
Access to the best: Filters/photoshop, surgery, cosmetic procedures, dieticians/chefs, skin bleaching, a whole glam team…..
This is something I’ve been confused about for so long. Even they usually don’t get enough sleep, they still look flawless.
I know that some idols wear tons of concealer. But I’ve seen most bare-faced idols still look alright.
I’m asking this because lately my dark circles are getting worse. If you do have tips on how to prevent them, pls tell me.
Loads of makeup and filters. Half their job is literally their face lol. You can see sometimes in vlives if they’re not using filters or wearing makeup but yeah that’s why makeup artists and editors exist
Regular dermatology appointments or just pure genes.
Tips.. Hydrate all the time (because under your eyes, your skin is thin so it shows more) and use a colour corrector / concealor / vitamin c serum.. If you have disposable income.. going to a good dermatologist is worth it.
Edit: A good sunscreen!!
I'd say the dermo appointments are 90% of it tbh ... I have awful dark circles and without fail every dermatology appointment I've been to in Seoul the aesthe brings up filling them/grafts. It's hella common here
and topical caffeine probably
damn he looks even hotter without filter
Lmao, that wasn't the point of the demonstration, but yes
Never mention Taemin at dream concerts. Shawols feel something 🥵
Heavy makeup and flattering lighting.
I never knew how much the power of make up is until one day a girl in my highschool who wore make up daily came in one day without one, I kept asking her if she was okay.
Edit: we started dating a week later so don’t downvote me.
Hmm I think it depends on the idol. Most k-pop idols have dermatologists to help them manage skin concerns so that would definitely help. Or it could be that they're just not prone to dark undereye circles.
How do most if not all kpop idols have extremely bright and fair skin? Is it just filters and lighting, or do they all use a secret industry specific product?
The stage lights make a huuuuge difference and lots of pics are filtered or edited, even some fan taken photos. A lot of times when idols promote in the US and have unfiltered pictures or interviews they look a lot less pale
A lot of fancams and pictures are edited to be whitewashed. See this example: this is Haechan of NCT, he is known to have a honey skin but you will find so many whitewashed pictures (that i forgot at time how beautiful his actual skin color is). And this is not an isolated incident. A load of idols pictures etc are retouched to look more fair skinned.
Felix from Stray Kids is a good example, too. His natural complexion is gorgeous, but he’s often edited to appear very pale.
This is one of my pet peeves personally because I have had other kpop fans literally tell me there are no tan Koreans because they are all pale and fair skinned naturally.
Korean men don't mind wearing make up to look white
Right? That's just so much BS. I live in Korea lol the average Koreans are not that fair or pale naturally, especially amongst the male population that tend to be tanner. Ofc there's people that are naturally pale or fair but the trend is to look pale so for most people a lot of efforts are put in it (through skin care, make up, cosmetic procedure etc). But I've definitely seen people wearing foundation that are too light in public and I have def seen my tanner friends looking ashy coz of the light af foundations. The irony is that they wanted to use those foundations not by a lack of supply (that is a thing) but because they considered it to be better or prettier.
Also it's worthy to add that the average citizen do have access to apps or affordable photo studios that will edit the crap out of their face.
edit: typo etc
to sum it up, a lot of idol are not THAT fair skinned but just whitewashed like never before
as an asian i will now refer to my self as honeyskinned.
lights are a huge deal nowadays. led lights allowed brighter and more focused light with color options. eg. music shows have used purple/cold blue tinted lights to wash out yellow pigments and sm has done the same in some aespa pics and videos.
music shows wash out idols so much compared to how they used to be, it looks so bad
Glutathione injections, very light makeup, lighting and filters.
Makeup, avoiding the sun, and glutathione injections.
i dont like k pop or anything like that but i saw a vid of wonyoung and her skin was so white and smooth, like no blemishes at all. how do they do that? im already super pale but i still wanna know
That’s not their actual skin tone, they wear full body makeup which you can look up. There’s been pictures where you see their natural skin in a spot that’s hard for makeup to stay.
There’s “flawless skin” is tons of photoshop, filters, lighting, etc. their whole job is to be an “idol”. It’s literal, so the companies behind them make them into one. There’s a lot of documentaries on the horrors of K-pop idols.
Yeah, OP was asking about the pale and clear skin so I didn’t go on a full rant on the horrible treatment of Kpop stars. They starve themselves yet also workout constantly. It’s just terrible how they’re treated
They have an entire village of a glam team looking after them and doing god knows what procedures. No surprise that their appearance isn’t achievable for us ordinary earthlings.
Yes! That level of flawless skin isn’t just due to skincare. A huge part of that are skin procedures that are prohibitively expensive (i.e. lasers, LED, ultrasound etc).
Also don’t forget about full body makeup. I’ve seen photos of some of the Korean stars and it’s pretty obvious to me that they’re wearing a very pale shade of body makeup.
But also many of them are picked exclusively for their looks and physical ability (mostly to do with dance). Yeah they have a hardcore glam team and routine to take care of themselves, but they’re famous for their features.
Maybe not exclusively for their looks, rather for their talent and physical ability as you said. It’s shocking to see the before-and-afters of some of these kpop idols
They avoid the sun, use great sunscreen every day, use bb and cc creams, and have great digital artists.
what are bb and cc creams?
Yea mostly they have an elastic glass skin which i dont think we can achieve because its the genes and the diet. I still try to maintain my diet as much as possible and use products like spf50, moisturiser from la roche posay and tret from skinorac_.
Procedures too. I got things like rejuran, others I can’t remember the same (glass skin/hydration/laser) when I was in Korea.
Genes and diet? Make up and filters.
i’m talking about predebut tjey look you know relatively like us “normal everyday people” but always when they debut they somehow look drop dead stunning
i’m aware he got surgery but you can see he has a bit of face chub before and less puffy eyes and him now, is our gorgeous king and i just am like DAMN HOW?!
Predebut Sana and Momo Sana and momo look so stunning right there, more predebut momo she’s obviously younger here but she looks so different she looks cute though post debut sana and momo look like straight up MODELS not to mention their wonderful figures as well
predebut solar and solar now look so different what’s your secret miss yongsun?! solar was a bit more chubby and now she’s a fit goddess and i’m so confused HOW?! I need what these idols are getting
predebut hyebin is so adorable you must admit she acrually looks like ahin here so if you told me she was i’d believe you but now she’s a gorgeous girl she looks so much more hyebin-ie if you know what i mean
do idols just achieve this by the magic company waters or how do they get their amazing faces? i’ve seen idols that look super different before debut, like i couldn’t even recognize them, and i’m wondering how they “glow up”
They have people to style them- dress them, do their hair and makeup, their diet and workouts, access to the best dermatologists, dentists, etc. That plus growing up since predebut many of them are still children. Generally people do have a glow up from age 12-13 to age 20.
Also that first pic- the only difference I see is lighting and makeup. And I guarantee filters are used on all the pics you see. Official pics are even more manipulatived to look more perfect. Without all the styling and makeup, and filters, they don't look like that either.
Plastic surgery, trained makeup artists, nutritionists and physical trainers. Basically the glow up is because of money.
That’s basically it. They get hair and makeup done everyday by the professionals like they sit hours in the “shop” (what they usually call beauty salon in Korea), on top of the already done plastic surgery or other beauty procedures like fillers or carboxy shots (to slim targeted area like arms or thighs).
Not to mention the time and money spent with the dermatologists to get that glass like skin. God I wish I had the money!
maybe one day we can both get dermatologists
While idols will generally have a fairly high level of inherent natural beauty, the idol levels of beauty that you see on camera are due to several factors, all of which can be attained with money.
Plastic surgery. Korea has some of the best plastic surgeons in the world. Typically idols will have subtle things done like nose or double eyelid surger. This is something anyone can do with money.
Professional makeup artists. It takes hours for idols to have their make up done. Remember they have the best tools and cosmetics money can buy along with years of training and experience to make people look amazing. This is a bit harder to do unless you can afford to hire a full time make up artist.
Nutrionists/dieticians/physical trainers. The diets of idols are closely monitored and they will typically work with physical trainers to set up a physical regiment to keep them in good condition. This is also something that anyone can really do if they have the money to do so.
Beauty treatments. Idols will typically go to dermatologists or health clinics to get beauty treatments. Dermatologists can prescribe prescription grade medicine that you can't get over the counter as well as detail what beauty regiment they need to follow to maintain their skin. Laser treatments are very common for removing acne scars to essentially polish smooth the skin.
Skincare/Cosmetics. This isn't as important as you may think. Cosmetics help maintain an idol's appearance, but it can't drastically improve it; that's what beauty treatments and laser scalping is for.
tl:dr Idols have a natural level of beauty, but no one (not even supermodels) looks that good naturally. A lot of people can look good if they are willing to diet, exercise, and sink tens of thousands of dollars into maintaining it.
It's literally their job to look as good as possible, so they have way more time/money to invest into that than the average person does. Obv. some of that is plastic surgery/cosmetic procedures, but also having their hair/makeup done, working out regularly, and almost every photo/video of them is meant to be as flattering as possible (bc even fansites generally edit/choose the best photos of idols, for obvious reasons).
but seriously, lots of plastic surgery. I'm not talking about like, severe under-the-knife procedures like jaw reduction or w/e, but stuff like fillers/eyelid surgery/etc are really really common.
then i’m curious about shingdong from super junior (absolutely no hate to him) but isnt being overweight still not normalized in korea
I know that their entire personas revolve around being marketable and attractive and they probably have state of the art doctors maintaining their look.
But- do we know any of the skincare that they do use, out of curiosity? Not the sponsored advertisements or sneaky bottle placements, something that they or their production teams admit to genuinely using?
TLDR: title
I only know of BTS' products. Jin, who has incredible skin, was filmed using Belif Classic Cream Ultimate. The guy endorses Laneige's Cream Toner but no idea if it's part of his daily routine.
J-Hope is particular with his skincare, the guy makes sure to use lots of sunscreen whenever he needs to be outdoors. While he was in the military, he asked his older sister for some toner pads because he just ran out of them. His sister, Jiwoo, has her own skin care line called Neaf Neaf, and yup, the line has something called Soothing Calm Toner Pad so it's likely that J-Hope's using that one.
All the guys regularly use sheet masks, so in addition to treatments perhaps that's helping them to keep their skin looking its best. Among the 7, the ones who are often praised for their great skin even sans makeup are Jin, Suga, and RM-- Jungkook calls this trio the Skin Gangsters lol
They eat well and exercise a lot, which results in good skin. Add to that treatments, consistent skin care routines and make up, you’ll end up getting a fresh look.
Huh Yunjin uses Make:Prem’s Safe Me cleansing foam. Her skincare routine is available on Vogue.
My Korean friend has flawless glass skin and when I asked her about the products that she used, she showed me all Western brands lol.
Now I'm even more curious about thise products😂
Think it’s mostly skincare treatments as when I was in SK they’re so cheap and easy to access (just send a WhatsApp or KKT message).
I had an aqua peel and it made my skin so amazing and smooth and cleared my nose of blackheads temporarily. It was about ₩90k and Juvelook and Rejuran were just a bit more so it would be affordable for them as they take an hour and you don’t need much except cleansing and moisturising afterwards. I think a lot of idols get glass skin Botox. Also filters and photoshop.
A lot of the SK public have nice but normal skin like anywhere else. I think because it’s easier to access dermatologists and treatments but they didn’t have perfect flawless poreless skin as they’re human. Keihls was very popular in SK and I think a lot of idols use it as well as La Roche Posay which was at Olive Young and popular and Zeroid too to prevent acne.
I’ve been wanting to add a sunscreen into my morning routine that works with my skin (combination, acne-prone) and I’m curious if there’s any benefit to using a Kbeauty sunscreen as opposed to any other kind. Are there any in particular that are highly recommended?
I think we can sum up the sunscreen market that we usually have access to into four types: US, European/Australian, Korean, Japanese
The US haven’t updated their allowed sunscreen filter list since the 70s or something, so the filters are older combinations and are less cosmetically elegant (white cast or greasy feeling). Typically sunscreen use by people are isolated to outdoor activities and not a daily habit. As a result formulations are also made to last through water and sweating so they are meant to be greasier and stickier.
Europe and Australia allows for newer sun filters so their sunscreens are a step up in protection as well as cosmetic elegance. You’ll likely get less white cast with European sunscreens than US sunscreens in general, though lots of brands are trying hard to improve in the US too. Still, application habits are the same as the US, so frequently their sunscreens are still greasier to account for sporting activities. Some european suncreen can be for everyday use too, they’re typically marketed as “day facial creams with SPF,” and are fairly lightweight and non-greasy. Eg. L’Oreal Bright Reveal Dark Spot cream
Korean sunscreens use newer filters and are frequently formulated for everyday use. There are some that are meant for sports so check if they are water resistant, many of the most popular ones on here are not. However, that’s exactly why they’re so lightweight and feel almost like a regular facial moisturizing cream. They tend to have a more dewy finish because Korea tends to have a drier climate so that’s what their local market prefers.
Japanese sunscreens are like Korean sunscreens in all aspects except they generally err more satin and matte in finish. Their sports sunscreen tend to be lighter than European counterparts as well, mostly because Japan gets more humid than Europe typically gets.
Woah this is a great analysis! I didn’t realize the difference in Korean and Japanese sunscreens. Now that you mention it, I can definitely feel the difference between Innisfree and Shiseido
Any good Japanese sunscreens I have oily skin and I have trouble controlling it, I purchased the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ and it didn’t really help control the oil
The Japanese sunscreens sounds more my lane since I want to my face to have a mild matte finish instead of it looking oil
That’s the first thing I noticed when I switched to Korean sunscreen.
The main things I've noticed is they don't have that strong sunscreen smell, there is no white cast and they absorb really well, and they are very moisturizing so I don't have to use an additional moisturizer. I hated putting US sunscreen on my face because they are so thick and greasy and hard to rub in. Korean sunscreen feels like putting on a nice, gentle lotion.
Literally the same for me, my eyes burning ruined my whole day. I don't want to have panda eyes, so not putting sunscreen on around my eyes is not possible. So I gave up on US sunscreen, and just ordered the Skin1004 Centelle sunscreen this week. Hopefully it works for me.
The skin 1004 water fit sunscreen is my HG
Love Beauty of Josen. It has protected my head, face, ears, arms and hands in the hot, and I mean hot 🥵 SW Oklahoma heat without any problems. Love it under makeup, also. I always make sure I have plenty on hand. ❤️🌞
Just found this from Edmond, OK. I’ve been considering switching to Beauty of Josen from Elta MD for a while now. Where do you normally pick it up?
Better sunscreen filters, higher levels of SPF protection, more moisturizing so you may not need to use a separate moisturizer with it, none of classic sunscreen smell, and, in my case, they don’t typically trigger acne or hives like American ones do
Also, Korean sunscreens actually measure both UVA and UVB protection. U.S. sunscreens only measure UVB. There is a "broad spectrum" term, but it essentially means nothing in our market. You can see what level of protection a Korean sunscreen offers by the SPF and the number of +'s.
US sunscreens seem to be some of the worst in the world, not sure why. Probably capitalism and lack of holding companies accountable, as usual.
Skin1004 Centelle sunscreen and Isehan Sunkiller
I’ve been watching a few shows and documentaries of pre debut idols and they look so normal like regular girls then directly after debuting they have pale, glass skin and they look flawless even without filters? Do they get many procedures right before the transition from trainee to idol?
they do get several procedures and treatments done on their skin and hair—not necessarily always plastic surgery, though it is common. you can sometimes see these things shown or mentioned in second or early third gen content. idols also have a whole team of professional makeup artists and stylists behind them, and are taught tips on personal grooming and hygiene. plus, they're also given training on improving their personality and social skills, on how to present themselves confidently etc., and these things make a huge difference in how attractive and likeable idols seem to us. good lighting and professionally-taken (and often edited) pictures are another reason why idols look quite different from the average person.
Dermatologists, makeup and skincare, but very much filters - like, 99% of idol photos you’ve seen are heavily filtered, and they definitely don’t look flawless without them.
Like, here are photos of stray kids you can see were untouched - you can actually see their face lines, and they don’t look smoothed out like they do in most videos. Or this photo of V - you can see his skin texture in a way you don’t in 99% of photos from that day, because skin is obviously not flawless
(Obviously the photos aren’t the most flattering bc of the heavy foundation but like. Clearly these incredibly stunning idols do have human skin and pores bc they are human - no surgery/procedure/dermatology can change that)
Having seen idols in person, they always look different in person and especially up close (even though the group I saw is pretty nugu, the difference was obvious). Obviously not unrecognizable, but once you’ve seen them in person, you can easily recognize which pictures have filters, what kind of trait-altering makeup style they used, etc. You can also see their facial traits a lot more clearly without all that because filters and makeup often smooth that stuff over or make them smaller. I’d say in person they do actually look more like their predebut selves because you can see their real traits.
Those pictures of stray kids are super refreshing to see. I think the selfie camera is never flattering on most people to be honest (not that it's not flattering on them, i just mean in general), and if it was a totally unfiltered photo of the members taken with the back camera, I bet it would look even better. Same with video, these guys are constantly filming YouTube videos witb professional cameras and their skin looks great so I honestly think the selfie camera is out to get us all ahaha
I genuinly don't even look at those and see 'flaws' in their skin, it just looks normal and adds character I guess. I.N and Seungmin are really blessed by the skin gods though 😭
Yeah definitely! I also don’t see them as imperfections bc like. They’re humans, and have skin - of course they’ll have lines and spots and all of that, bc they aren’t made of plastic.
Selfie cameras are evil you’re completely correct (and I would argue that on top of that, the angles and foundation don’t help - but yeah, stage makeup isn’t meant to look good up close).
What is the deal with the selfie camera!?? I had an iPhone 6 and now have an iPhone 12 and the selfie cam is almost worse in the newer phone. It picks up texture and flaws I can’t even see using a 5x magnifying mirror.
True. Also, sometimes I forget what skin looks like lol. And what heavy makeup looks irl. Recently, I was a bridesmaid at a wedding. And my makeup felt weird and like too much. But in the professional photos, it looked so nice. After the color grading. I also think heavy makeup isn’t meant for regular selfie mode without filters. Heavy Makeup cakes.
Anyways, those pics were refreshing to see.
Diet, fillers, plastic surgery, and significantly less make up before debut. A good example of a group of girls who clearly had fillers before debut was bugaboo. You can tell just about all the members had got filler and Eunchae has gotten skin whitening and a nose job. She was on produce 48 and I remember her because she had such a beautiful tan skin tone and now she’s pale is ghost. It also did not help the group that their teaser pictures were heavily edited and they gave them this uncanny valley look. Almost every idol you can go and look at their pre-debut pictures and point out something that has clearly changed in their face and it’s not age. I’m all for plastic surgery but it’s just so sad to see all these young teens talked into procedures . Also plastic surgery deniers crack me up because how come everybody in K-pop got the same 2-3 noses. Also a lot of times you may not recognize it because they’ll do it suddenly over a period of time and boom you’ll look up one day and you’ll realize that they’ve changed quite a bit since they debuted.
access to estheticians and aestheticians. professional skin care and grooming can dramatically change someone's appearance.
>estheticians and aestheticians
non-English native speaker here: all these years I thought that those are simply two different spellings of the same word (like, British vs American spelling, similar to "anesthesia" vs "anaesthesia") haha. TIL
Dang, it's not letting me view V's pic :/
>pale, glass skin
Glutathione IV drips have become incredibly prevalent in the recent years. If you look at idols 10-15 years ago, you won't find the same look.
>Flawless without filters
Fillers and Botox are the primary players here.
>Do they get many procedures
Absolutely. I swear some companies won't even let idols debut without the usual fillers/Botox/rhinoplasty/some type of eyelid surgery combo.
Edit: I do see how my original post could seem critical and condescending. I’m sorry for that. I had just woken up and saw a video of the makeup Seonghwa used in his live and it said “QUICK, GO SELL THIS OUT GUYS!!” And I was like… WHY.
If you’re into that kind of thing, more power to you. Also it doesn’t have to be a certain age group- you definitely have more or less K-pop involved in your whole life regardless of age. ☺️ I’m sorry for seeming critical. I think this post came from a place of, I feel bad that I don’t seem to care about what a lot of other K-pop fans care about, and since K-pop for me gives me a sense of belonging, the fact I don’t care makes me feel like I “don’t belong” here. Definitely some stuff for me to work through on this. But thank y’all for weighing in! I heard a lot of opinions on both sides 🥰
Original: Am I old or just too logical? But when idols use certain products or brands- not ones they sponsor like being the ambassador, that I totally understand- but like Jungkook and the Downy fabric softener thing, recently Seonghwa with his makeup, or like whenever an idol does a live and say they like a perfume etc.
Why do the fans buy those products and sell them out? Like why do they go “omg, JUNGKOOK USES THIS, I NEED TO TOO!”
I’m 25 and have been a K-pop fan for 8 years now. I have never wanted a product just because xyz uses it. Like the perfume is the only one I could see because then you can have an idea for how an artist smells. I love a good cologne so I could understand it. But like, buying certain makeup because Seonghwa uses it… what if it’s not good for your skin type? What if the color doesn’t work for you? What if you’re allergic to it etc? Why do you need your laundry to smell like Jungkook’s laundry?
For me, K-pop is just fun. It’s meaningful and inspiring. But I don’t need it to permeate every single aspect of my life. I have pictures up at my corporate job, I have my albums displayed, but I don’t have every product I use because an artist recommended it. Maybe it’s the type of person I am and not my age??? Or maybe I’m just the kind of adult who just doesn’t have time to care about that kind of thing. 😔
Ok first off 25 isn’t old 😭 it’s wild people think anything past 20 is prehistoric but Anyways a lot of kpop fans are impressionable and look up to their idols and so because of this, a lot of them try to replicate their idols lifestyle. This includes using products that idols use, there’s also a certain level of trust a lot of kpop fans have for their idols so their mindset is that If (Insert idol) is using this then it must be good
You’re right, I don’t think I’m old yet 🤣 I guess I mean more in terms of a large demographic is under 20. And I’ve definitely had some call me old before 🥹
I don't get it either. Is it the idea that you're like the Idol if you buy stuff they like? Cause the Idol isn't getting a commission on your purchase, lol.
The only thing I've ever wanted to try bc of an idol is maybe a candy that they don't have where I am. But that's just bc I love trying snacks from other countries.
Yeah but I tried the mogu mogu drink and I hated it omg
I love trying snacks from other counties too. I always make sure I go into a convenient store or a food store to try stuff
We are old, I don't care either
That comes off very obsessive to buy everything your idol promotes or uses.
The few things I have tried (mainly from a YouTuber who lives in Korea) is Korean skincare. It has helped my skin and I love the cosrex pimple patches.
How do kpop idols maintain their skin
Key Considerations for K-Pop Idols' Skin Care:
Cleansing Routine: K-Pop idols often follow a double cleansing method, starting with an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup and impurities, followed by a water-based cleanser to clean the skin thoroughly.
Moisturization: Hydration is crucial. They typically use lightweight, hydrating moisturizers to keep their skin plump and healthy. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin are common.
Sunscreen: Daily application of sunscreen is essential to protect the skin from UV damage. Many idols use broad-spectrum SPF products to prevent premature aging and skin issues.
Regular Exfoliation: Gentle exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and promotes cell turnover. Idols may use chemical exfoliants (like AHAs or BHAs) or gentle physical scrubs.
Sheet Masks: Regular use of sheet masks is popular for an instant boost of hydration and nourishment. Idols often incorporate them into their routines, especially before performances.
Diet and Hydration: A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and plenty of water is vital for maintaining healthy skin. Many idols also avoid excessive sugar and processed foods.
Professional Treatments: Many idols undergo professional skincare treatments, such as facials, chemical peels, or laser treatments, to maintain their skin's appearance.
Recommendation: If you're looking to improve your skincare routine, consider adopting a simplified version of these practices. Start with a good cleanser, a moisturizer suited for your skin type, and never skip sunscreen. Incorporating a weekly exfoliation and occasional sheet masks can also enhance your skin's health.
