How to Defeat the Ender Dragon in Minecraft

TL;DR

  • Destroy end crystals first, then attack the dragon.
  • Use ranged weapons like bows and bring plenty of supplies.

Preparation and Gear

Before facing the Ender Dragon, it's crucial to be well-prepared. Essential items include a bow (preferably with infinity enchantment), sharpness 5 axe or sword, and plenty of arrows [4:4]. Enchanted golden apples can make you nearly invincible [1:2]. It's also recommended to take water buckets to flood the end island, preventing fall damage if the dragon launches you into the air [3:1][4:3]. Additionally, carrying ender pearls can help you teleport back to safety if you fall from high places [4:6].

Strategy for Battle

The battle begins by destroying the end crystals on top of obsidian towers, as these heal the dragon [1:1][5:1]. You can shoot them down with a bow or climb up to destroy them with a sword. Once the crystals are gone, focus on attacking the dragon using your bow when it flies and melee attacks when it perches [4:7]. Some players recommend using beds to deal massive damage when the dragon is perched, but this method requires careful execution to avoid self-inflicted damage [4:8][4:9].

Additional Tips

Wearing a carved pumpkin can prevent endermen from attacking you, allowing you to focus solely on the dragon [5:2]. Bringing scaffolding and potions, such as feather falling and instant health, can provide additional support during the fight [5:3]. For those looking for more advanced tactics, learning the one-cycle method used by speedrunners can expedite the battle, though it requires practice to master [4:3].

Resources

For a detailed guide, consider checking out tutorials like the one on the Minecraft Fandom page [4:1]. This resource offers comprehensive strategies and tips for defeating the Ender Dragon effectively.

ORIGINAL POST

So I finally stayed to one world on Java, and I'm really close to finally killing the Ender Dragon, but the thing is, I never did.

I only defeated it once, on PE. That was long ago, and now I have no idea how to, I don't know any strategies, I even tried to do it with stuff that I got from creative on a separate world, still died. If you have any tips on how I should fight, what I should use, or what I should do please tell me! Thanks!

You need to destroy the Cristal's on the obsidian towers. The Cristal's heal him then just now him down. The Cristal's can be destroyed with a bow or with a sword if you climb up.

So despite having played Minecraft for like… 13 years at this point, I’ve never actually beaten the Ender Dragon…

I either just get too invested in whatever it is that I’m building, or get bored of a project and create a new world. The building part in particular is silly on my part because I have heard rumours that having an elytra and like, actual good tools makes building easier. I finally decided to say screw it and actually beat the game and, well, I DID IT! I can confirm, having an elytra is fantastic, even if I have died multiple times now from slamming into a building or the ground.

If you’re at all interested in watching me bumble through and complete the game, I made a short (long) video of this horribly inefficient endeavour. I only died TWICE! - https://youtu.be/ydw1G4BWmQE?si=uwPtNv8LLk5cdvoD

This may not seem like a big deal to some people, but it’s such a great feeling. Especially since I haven’t died in this world yet. I took my oldest kid’s advice and put down as much water as I could and just focused on staying alive. It got me down to half a heart at one point and one heart at another, but I survived.

Took me 7 years to even try. Now I’ve beaten it 20 times in 3 separate hardcore worlds. Popped a few totems along the way- but mostly because it’s WAY more fun to beat it with elytra and bow.

Ok-Joke4158 · 4 years ago

I would recommend taking atleast 2 water bucket and then flooding the entire end island so you wont die if the dragon launches you. Be aware of the dragon's breath tho. Then you can easily shoot down all the crystals and kill the dragon. When it perches, try to ender pearl in the bedrock platform and then keep attacking it but DONT JUMP. Just keep repeating the process and you're good to go. If you want it to be fast, then learn the one-cycle method which all the speedrunners use. It would seem kinda hard at first but with practice you will master it.

If you are going to take the ender dragon down the original way make sure to have an infinity bow and sharpness 5 axe or sword.

You need a bow to shoot the end crystals (infinity recommended), a good food source (steak or golden carrots/apples), ender pearls in case you fall from a high place, lots of beds, and a few stacks of building blocks to get up the pillars.

The End for a rusty java player in Bedrock

Posted by Leemer431 · in r/MinecraftBedrockers · 5 months ago

I was wondering because Im playing on a hardcore world being a bedrock noob and being a washed up java vet, What are the best strats for the end dragon? Ive progressed more on this world then i ever have and i would rather not use cheesy strats like bed bombing the dragon but i also want to go in assuring im safe and can effectively take out the dragon. I know feather falling pots, some instant health pots and a lot of arrows but aside from that, are there any good ways to ensure i dont lose my world?

For extra context, I only ask because ive noticed Bedrock seems a lot more punishing than Java, I dont want any cheesy strats like the speedrun route or anything and im grinding xp to max out my netherite armour enchants. Any advice or tips would help but im just afraid to try and orogress out of fear of losing it.

if you keep dying in the nether get some diamond armor with fire prot 4, a shield for blazes, gold for distracting/trading with the piglins and a smite sword/axe for withe skeletons/skeletons. once you get your blaze rods and pearls, go netherite mining and upgrade your tools and armor to netherite. practice killing the ender dragon with beds and finally kill the dragon with your beds on your main world

alrighty.

and if the dragon just keeps yeeting you upwards and you dont want to die from fall damage, get 2 water buckets (for infinite water source in the end) and some pearls too. if you dont trust your skills or you dont think you can kill the dragon with beds just get your bow, shoot all of the crystals, and kill the dragon with a sharpness 4 axe/sword. remember to bring a pumpkin helmet with you to not get attacked by enderman. (by the way if i made any mistakes sorry for my bad english)

Water, bow with infinity but most importantly, water (buckets to mlg)

I am taking one water and 3 pearls to get myself out of trouble from falling. I have around 40 arrows and full netherrite. 2 pieces enchanted. i also have a sharpness 4 netherite axe, and 6 beds. Should I just do a "fuck it"?

GreatAwesome_Bombs · 4 years ago

It isnt as hard as you think, if you have full netherite then all you need is a sword, a bow, and some food (its all i needed to beat the dragon on hardcore after only owning java edition for 3 days)

If you stay away from the edges of the island then its impossible to be knocked off, and the dragon cant knock you up more than 15 blocks

Slow falling potions are very useful for getting an elytra after the fight

Strength potions are useless, the dragon will stop perching after a certain amount of damage is dealt not after a certain amount of time.

If you want to make your life easy so you dont go to enderman hell, wait for the dragon to perch instead of shooting him to deal damage.

If you want then bring a pumpkin, but it really isnt needed

If you see the ender dragon shoot a fireball at you, run for your fucking life. That fireball negates all armor and enchantments, so if your in the area of damage for even 10 seconds then your dead

Take Potion of Night Vision - helps offset the loss of vision from the pumpkin helmet. Also, get a bow with Power V and Infinity, and just keep pinging the Ender Dragon. It honestly doesn't take that many shots to take her down. Flame helps slightly, too - it will continue to damage after the initial shot.

DocDT10 · 8 months ago

Wear carved pumpkin on your head, vision is partially obscured but endermans won’t attack unless you accidentally hit them. If you have feather falling and can bucket/ender pearl clutch pillar up for the taller towers, shoot a bow for the short ones. After towers are down chip away at dragon with bow and when it perches in the middle stand directly under its head

When I beat the end I created 'bunkers' so I could heal easily.

If you do that, make them out of end stone or obsidian and make them 2-tall so endermen can't teleport in.

They won't protect you from the dragon, as it can fly through blocks, so only from the endermen. Water also helps as they can't step in it.

If pumpkin heads are a pain use resource packs to remove the overlay > bedrock | java (unobtrusive section)

10 years of Minecraft. Never beat the dragon.

Posted by Even_Elderberry2288 · in r/Minecraft · 2 months ago

I’ve been playing Minecraft for 10 years.

Never killed the Ender Dragon.

Not once.

I always start a new world, get super into it, build a base, maybe a farm, even enchant some gear.

Then I get bored. Stop playing. Delete the world like it never happened.

Cycle repeats.

At this point it’s a tradition. I don’t even aim for the dragon anymore. I just play for mybe week, get bored, and vanish.

Long live the unfinished worlds.

How do you defeat the Ender Dragon in Minecraft

Here are key strategies to defeat the Ender Dragon in Minecraft:

  1. Preparation:

    • Gear Up: Equip yourself with diamond or netherite armor, a bow (preferably enchanted with Power and Infinity), and plenty of arrows.
    • Weapons: Bring a sword (enchanted with Sharpness) for close combat.
    • Supplies: Carry plenty of food, healing potions, and blocks (like cobblestone) for building and protection.
  2. Ender Pearls and Water Buckets:

    • Ender Pearls: Useful for quick escapes or to reach high places.
    • Water Buckets: Can be used to negate fall damage and to create a safe spot when dealing with Endermen.
  3. Destroy the Ender Crystals:

    • Climb or Build Up: Use blocks to reach the obsidian pillars and destroy the Ender Crystals, which heal the Ender Dragon. You can shoot them with arrows or climb up and break them directly.
    • Caged Crystals: Use a bow to shoot the crystals that are enclosed in iron bars.
  4. Fight the Dragon:

    • Stay Mobile: Keep moving to avoid the dragon's breath attack and its dive bomb.
    • Aim for the Head: When the dragon swoops down, aim for its head for maximum damage.
    • Use Beds: If you’re feeling bold, you can use beds as explosives. Place a bed where the dragon will land and try to sleep in it; it will explode, dealing massive damage to the dragon (but also to you, so be cautious!).
  5. Watch Out for Endermen:

    • Avoid Eye Contact: Don’t look directly at Endermen to prevent them from attacking you.
    • Use a Shelter: Build a small shelter (2 blocks high) to protect yourself from Endermen while you fight the dragon.
  6. Final Push:

    • Once the Ender Dragon's health is low, continue to attack with your bow and sword until it is defeated.

Takeaway: Preparation is key! Ensure you have the right gear and supplies before entering the End. Focus on destroying the Ender Crystals first to prevent the dragon from healing, and use strategic combat techniques to take it down effectively. Good luck!
