What Redditors are Saying

How Long is the Naruto Timeskip?

TL;DR The timeskip in Naruto between the original series and "Naruto Shippuden" is approximately 2.5 years.

Details of the Timeskip

In the Naruto series, there is a significant timeskip that occurs between the end of the original series and the beginning of "Naruto Shippuden." This timeskip lasts for about two and a half years. During this period, Naruto leaves the village to train with Jiraiya, one of the legendary Sannin, to become stronger and prepare for future challenges. This training period is crucial as it allows Naruto to develop his skills significantly before returning to the village at the start of "Shippuden."

Contextual Understanding

The timeskip is an important narrative device used to show character development and growth. It provides a fresh start for the series with older and more mature characters, allowing for new story arcs and deeper plot developments. The transition from the original series to "Shippuden" marks a shift in tone and complexity, reflecting the characters' progression into adulthood and the increasing stakes of their world.

Viewer Guidance

For viewers who are new to the series or transitioning from the original "Naruto" to "Naruto Shippuden," it's important to note that "Shippuden" continues directly from where the original series left off, but with the aforementioned time jump. This continuation is essential for understanding the full scope of the Naruto storyline and its characters' evolution [4:1][4:2].

ORIGINAL POST

It just dawned on me that Boruto is approaching 5 years since it’s release. By May 2021 marks 5 years and honestly it flew by. I’m about 40 episodes away from the current airing and I’m thinking to myself “the time skip is definitely coming soon”. It took 5 years for Naruto to end before the timeskip to Shippuden. So based on that I suspect the timeskip will occur around the summer 2021. Also based on that I expect the show to have another 3-5 years like shippuden so in all I think this nostalgic series will come to a conclusive end around 2023-2026. Any thoughts on any of this?

Do the filler episodes contain anything of importance to the story or are they just, y'know, fillers?

Depends. There are episodes that are like 24 minutes but the actual watch time of the episode is 16 minutes, without intro outro last episode and next episode parts.

My friend watched it on again off again and skipping filler he finished it in like 2 or 3 months. If you decide to start DM me because there are like two or three filler arcs that make their next cannon arcs 100x better

I’m thinking at least a few months since it seems that Sakura’s hair grew a bit and Naruto’s face healed when he was still roughed up during the memorial service.

I think like a year. In Kakashi’s novel it say something like that the 4th war happened more than six months ago and he still hadn’t taken the title of Hokage.

study-dying · OP · 6 months ago

This is good!! We a narrowing it down a bit! I think you’re right, probably close to a year.

LC14156 · 6 months ago

Just checked the novel. The novel begins a year after the war and Kakashi is ready to take office by the end of it. So it probably was like a year and a few months in total.

Enough time for Kakashi to both be instated as the 6th Hokage and have his face carved in the mountain. Plus, Sakura’s hair is noticeably longer in the scene where Sasuke departs.

I heard he was in jail for a year until Kakashi pardoned him cause Tsunade was still hokage for a lil bit after the war and we all know Tsunade gives no passes 😂

1 upvotes on reddit
study-dying · OP · 6 months ago

Ah yes, the fact that his face is already carved is a good point. That would probably take a while.

IAmBoring_AMA · 6 months ago

Nah there’s gotta be some art student with the jutsu and enough chakra to carve that in an afternoon

littlefaka · 6 months ago

According to the anime and the novels (Shikamaru's I think) it was a little under a full year.

icarusancalion · 6 months ago

Cool! That's what I was thinking. It seemed like it would've taken about a year to have a changing of the guard in Hokages.

1 upvotes on reddit
study-dying · OP · 6 months ago

Oh cool! I guess Sakura and Shikamaru must have already been promoted to jonin by then since it was said to happen a few months after the war.

How Many Seasons/Arcs?

Posted by Neeerrrdddd · in r/Naruto · 1 month ago

I’m relatively new to anime (started 5 years ago) so I’m sorry if I sound kinda dumb lol. How many seasons are there to Naruto? I see 9 on Netflix and I’m almost done, but no update on Sasuke? 🫠 I’ve seen art of Naruto all grown up so I’m not sure if I’m missing something lol. I only see movies after the series. Is that what I should watch next in order of release date.

How long will it take me to read the manga thoroughly?

Posted by Final-Hearing-3882 · in r/Naruto · 6 months ago

I’ve watched a few episodes of naruto but because i’m busy with midterms and finals usually, the entire anime (720 episodes) would take me years to finish. Is the manga worth reading? And if so, how long did it take you? (excluding boruto) will i miss out if i ditch the anime and focus on the manga? (I did think about reading the entire thing and then watching only the most epic/emotional scenes in the anime)

It took me about 2 weeks. I have a Shonen jump subscription so it limits you to 100 chapters a day… either way I was mostly reading during lunch breaks or a bit before bed.

I think the manga is worth reading for the art alone. Plus, there were details I missed from the anime that i paid more attention to in the manga.

How accurately do both the manga and anime follow each other? If you had to guess a percentage

1 upvotes on reddit

slejla · 6 months ago

If it weren’t for the fillers, they follow one another fairly accurately. It’s been some time since I read the manga and watched the anime, I feel like some parts were only slightly changed. But I can’t give exact details.

Final-Hearing-3882 · OP · 6 months ago

1 upvotes on reddit
Dukklings · 6 months ago

I'm not sure. Apparently I can read very fast so that's my preferred medium when it comes to Anime. I'd rather just read the Manga. Oddly, Death Note is an exception. I prefer to watch it.

1 upvotes on reddit
FinalProgress4128 · 6 months ago

I believe the manga is worth reading, but the earlier chapters are longer. Reading at a good pace of even 10 chapters a day is going to take you around 10 weeks. You are not properly reading it in 2 days, unless you read non stop for 48 hours. It's probably about 60- 70 hours of reading.

Definitely not lol. More like 4 or 5% we just finished being introduced to kawaki. And its only been 34 chapters so far, and while that does sound like a lot, its really not. We know nothing about kara, karma, jougun, jigen, kashin, like nothing at all. All we know is a bit about kawaki, and how the world post naruto has been

3 upvotes on reddit
[deleted] · 6 years ago

Actually, it is about 30% because in a recent interview, Ikemoto said the series will last for about 30 volumes and we're at volume 8, so 6 or 7 more years of Boruto manga

2 upvotes on reddit
[deleted] · 6 years ago

we're in volume 8 now, so i'll say in volume 15-16.

in theory, we don't have to worry about things being rushed and missing content due to the time skip. the anime could easily provide the details

Quite some time. Timeskip has not happened in the manga yet but I would imagine it would happen near Jumpfesta (December). An alternative would be early 2022.

The anime will probably stop adapting manga canon after the aftermath of the next fight. More anime canon is inevitable as Boruto is too profitable.

The manga would need time to get ahead as well. It's gonna be a while until we see a timeskip in the anime.

How long is the Naruto timeskip

Key Considerations about the Naruto Timeskip:

  1. Duration: The timeskip in "Naruto" occurs between the original series and "Naruto: Shippuden." It lasts approximately 2.5 years.

  2. Age of Characters:

    • Naruto Uzumaki is around 15 years old at the start of "Shippuden," compared to 12 years old at the end of the original series.
    • Other characters also age accordingly, with significant development in their skills and abilities.
  3. Impact on Story: The timeskip allows for character growth, new abilities, and the introduction of new story arcs, making the transition to "Shippuden" feel fresh and engaging.

Takeaway: The 2.5-year timeskip is crucial for character development and sets the stage for the more mature themes and challenges faced in "Naruto: Shippuden."
