What Happens During the Naruto Timeskip

Overview of the Timeskip

The Naruto timeskip occurs between the original series and its sequel, "Naruto: Shippuden." During this period, Naruto leaves the village to train with Jiraiya. The timeskip spans approximately 2-3 years, during which Naruto grows both physically and mentally [4:1]. He returns to the village at age 15 with improved skills and a more mature outlook [3:1].

Character Development

During the timeskip, Naruto undergoes significant development. He learns new techniques, including the Giant Rasengan, and enhances his taijutsu and mindset [3:3][3:4]. His growth is not just in terms of jutsu but also in maturity and strategic thinking, as seen when he successfully catches the bell from Kakashi [3:4]. Additionally, the timeskip allows for changes in character designs, which are often a highlight for fans [3:5].

Impact on Plot

The timeskip serves as a narrative device to advance the plot and introduce new challenges. It marks a transition from Naruto's initial struggles to more complex conflicts involving Akatsuki and other powerful adversaries. The timeskip sets the stage for Naruto's increased involvement in high-stakes missions and battles, reflecting his growth and readiness to face greater threats [3:6].

Speculation and Expectations

Fans often speculate about what could have happened during the timeskip or potential additional timeskips. Some discussions suggest that a timeskip after the Pain Arc could have allowed for rebuilding the village and preparing for future conflicts [1:1]. However, others argue that delaying Obito's plans would not make sense given the weakened state of the villages and the urgency of his objectives [1:2][1:6].

Comparison to Boruto Timeskip

The concept of a timeskip is revisited in "Boruto," where fans anticipate a similar transition based on opening scenes showing older versions of characters like Boruto and Kawaki [2:1]. While the Boruto timeskip has not yet occurred, it is expected to bring significant changes to character dynamics and plot developments, much like the original Naruto timeskip [5:1][5:5].

I always saw the Pain Arc as a good chapter end on the whole Akatsuki Saga, Naruto finally being accepted by the village, etc. Maybe their could've been a page where Obito discusses with Zetsu about regrouping and prepping his plan for a year before starting the war?

No it wouldn't have made any sense for obito to wait a year now that he had acquired seven tailed beasts and the villages were heavily weakened.

It all comes down to how it's written.

In other words it's more about the execution than the idea itself. If the author can make the time skip feel compelling then sure. If not then meh

No, because why would Obito want someone who was able to fight Nagato down to deva path to have time to grow even stronger.

Permit their victory to defeat them. Let ‘em get comfortable and out of practice because they think shit is sweet during the peace, then pull up outta nowhere with the blicky

Don’t mount a full on frontal assault by revealing yourself and your intentions with an open declaration of war. Don’t say anything at all. Begin to stealthily dismantle all the supporting assets to the Kage like Shikamaru’s father, the sensory units and the healers. Use targeted Kamui abductions to take them out one by one. Space your attacks out so that there’s no concentrated focus on a common assailant or connective link between disappearances.

Plant false flags to get the most powerful jonin from the villages in conflict with each other so that they can be picked off outside of their walls, and ruin any chance of collaboration between the five nations. Get that eye back from Kakashi when he’s exhausted from team carrying out there against the Stone Village

Now, with Naruto properly demoralized and the infrastructure in shambles, pop out the Edo Jinchuuriki Squad and Gedo Mazo blicky sticky icky RUH

Nagato only died because 1. He had to fight the whole village before Naruto. And 2. He couldn’t go for the killing blows.

If Nagato wanted Naruto dead in a fair 1 v 1, it would’ve happened easily.

I’d have just killed Naruto and like the Avatar cycle, wait 30 years for the nine tails to reform or however long it took.

It makes sense that after losing Pain, something that Zetsu(who knows most of what there is to know) literally thought was impossible, that the villains wouldn’t waste time trying to make their next move before the heroes could have time to recover.

It hasn't happened yet, but its about too, basically Boruto Sasuke and potentially others have to leave the village soon due to plot events

In the original series, Naruto left on a journey with Jiraya and returned 3-4 years later. And thus people speculate a similar situation will happen with Boruto to get to the age Boruto is seen in the "clickbait" scene. It may happen, it may not, but there's no proof it'll happen.

People assume there will be a time skip based off the opening scene to the anime/manga with an older Kawaki and Boruto.

Just like the time skip between the original Naruto series and Shippuden.

Personally I could see them going a different route and filling out the “time skip” with more anime canon episodes.

Maybe 10 years since Zabuza left the village. It’s only 3 years and a few months since Land of Waves

8 upvotes on reddit

It should be 4-5 years since Land of Waves.

OG Naruto is roughly less than a year, time skip is around 2, and Shippuden spans around 2 years.

Naruto is 12 in chapter 1, 13 by the end of OG.

Naruto returns to the village post time-skip at 15, and he's 17 the day that war ends.

It's a figure of speech. Suigetsu is bloodthirsty and prefers to chop people to pieces just as Zabuza who killed many during his graduation. Hence demon. Ten years means the last time Suigetsu and Kisame last met.

Why is Boruto fighting Kawaki when so far they have a stable relationship back when they were kids?

Why is the Village destroyed AGAIN!?

Where is everyone else? Especially those who are tied to Naruto/Boruto/Kawaki?

Is Himawari an actual ninja or not?

I am expecting a more manga-like art style, and better animation, by the time we get into the timeskip i would assume that boruto will get much more popular, dus making it earn more money and getting more quality made episodes. Besides the production, i would expect him to be more Sasuke than Naruto, he would probably stay the same like Naruto in a regular chillings, but in a fight he will not hesitate or try to talk no jutsu his opponent. Also, a weekly manga, better story telling and illustrations.

weekly manga is definitely not going to return, at the absolute limit they could do bi-weekly but even that'd be pushing it for ikemoto

Things could change really fast, i would be really surprised if they kept monthly manga even during timeskip, ikemoto could get a co-illustrator, or boruto manga could get a whole new illustrator capable of doing weekly manga, you never know. I just can't imagine manga not taking an advantage of boruto anime popularity by not making it release more often.

Jep1313 · 3 years ago

I expect the show to get..... "more positive rep" for one boruto's fight scenes are already god tier as far as the manga fight goes. But consistency is tad lacking, for ex look at sarada's fight and say iwabe's. The difference are way too wide in terms of quality. And second i predivt the show will get dark real quick like the war arc tension but this time its all focused on team 7 since the intro is hintung the leaf is destroyed. So ilk assume boruto and maybe kawaki as a villain woukd be like the "only" characyer for a long time, i had hope for the seri3s back when i started watching boruto during episode 34 airs. It has been early 200 episode since then and i personally think the show has gotten progressively better starting from episode 120 ( around jiraiya arc ) and this year proves it, we had major major figths with god tier animations all around. In the next few years boruto might finally be one of the "classic show" if they handle the anime right and not screw around i think the show can make a no man's sky like comeback

Dr Stone Naruto

Posted by AnimeEagleScout · in r/NarutoFanfiction · 4 months ago

Happens after the final movie. Hinata confessed, happy ending Naruto asks her to marry him hoora...but then.

The Medusa Weapon gets dropped on the Elemental Nations. Naruto spends the entire 3,718 years essentially being tutored by Kurama, Hogoromo and Asura in his seal explaining he'll need to know how to rebuild society.

The jinchuriki of the world become essentially God's to the others, Naruto when he first gets unpetrified he uses the summoning jutsu and finds a new Toad who is Gamakichi's Grandson who's the same age as Gamamaru was in the show and explains the toads and the summons have survived in the spirit world but Lady Katsuyu has left a fragment of herself due to her being there when the petriffication happens so Tsunade is basically spent the years learning to be a Slug Sage along with Sakura.

Naruto has permanently merged with Kurama turning into a full Kitsune Sage [Think Orchimaru but fox themed]

For sake of the story all those years petrified to keep sane Hinata was being trained by Hogoromo's brother to Awaken a tenseigan.

It's now Naruto being the lucky one to get unpetrified first he's spending his time rebuilding and using everything his sensei taught him to rebuild the world.

I only wonder what would happend with the Ōtsutsuki.

3 upvotes on reddit
AnimeEagleScout · OP · 4 months ago

They came, they saw all the people petrified and couldn't cure it so they just screamed fuck it and left.

I might make the twist of the story that the Medusa Weapon was made by an anti Otsutsuki Alien or maybe it was developed by Otsutsuki who wanted to prevent the ten tails from forming.

3 upvotes on reddit
fengreg · 4 months ago

Or it was something that Kaguya made in order to protect the people while the white Zetsus are fighting the rest of the Otsutsuki.

Yes this would leave Orochimaru as the only original person alive that whole time and was looking for ways to save the petrified people.

sarm333 · 23 days ago

Lackluster for the viewer but crucial to the story. Naruto prior to the time skip lacked the fundamentals of a good ninja. I think during the time skip, Jiraiya drilled in the basics into him so that when learning more difficult techniques as we see later, there is a solid base to build upon. Given the short amount of time Naruto had with Jiraiya, I would say they did a lot.

Remember that in comparison to say Sasuke or even Sakura, Naruto lacked a lot. For what he lacked, he made up for with pure power from the Kyuubi.

My 2 cents

Wasn't it mentioned that Jiraiya had to teach naruto the fundamental basics of taijutsu and chakra control? It was kinda like the Journey of Ashura, to first learn balance before going to the cool stuff

5 upvotes on reddit
kilgoar · 26 days ago

I don’t remember seeing Naruto do anything taijutsu / chakra control in early shippuden he didn’t do in pt 1. It also makes the later wind training, sage training, and kyuubi control training look like an ass pull. Like, he learned basics over two years but pulled out three massive power ups in a fraction of the time?

2 upvotes on reddit
sosimusz · 26 days ago

I would have been happy if Naruto would have been able to do a one-handed Rasengan and had coordinated group attacks with his Shadow Clones. The whole point of training with Jiraiya was correcting his messed up basics and making him have better chakra control. Having those would have shown his development perfectly.

I think either Ikemoto and Kodachi hyped up that it was coming soon...over 2 years ago. If the timeskip is happening within the next year they'll have to really rush into it and that's only going to cause more problems.

I'm convinced that the people begging for the timeskip to happen are doing so because they don't actually like the Boruto series in its current state and debatably never did (there's some middle ground that maybe they liked it at first but are getting tired that it's taking so long), only tolerating it since it's a necessary step from a narrative standpoint. Believing the timeskip will fix all the problems the series has as well as its image in the public anime space with nothing to base that self-assurance around.

I couldn't do that so i just dropped the series altogether. Those two are still my boys and i firmly believe this sequel series should have been about them and not boruto but what's done is done.

It's called Boruto

!Anyways the last Kara member met the force ghost of Isshki and told him hes the inheritor of his will. He goes to some bunker and revives some people that were created by Amando. They were locked away because they were more powerful than Isshki. They're a brother and sister named Daemon and Ada. The little bro's power is super strength and reflecting attacks even thoughts. Older sis is boruto's age. She can see anything anywhere at anytime in real time. Also anyone near her is in love with her and will do anything she says except for family and otsutsuki. So her bro, kawakiki, and boruto are immune. She want's to date boruto and kawakiki because of this. She comes to konoha and lives there. Code is unable to actually harm anybody now but he has a smaller 10 tails to play with. Code likes Naruto so much that he imprisoned him and Hinata in another dimension. Ada accidentally activates a memory ability called Omniscience that makes everyone think Kawakiki was Naruto's son and Boruto was the adopted one. Everyone also thinks Naruto and Hinata are dead and blame boruto. Sarada and class president are immune to it. Everyone tries to kill Boruto. Sarada is so sad by this her ms awakens. Sarada begs Sasuke to protect Boruto despite Sasuke thinking Boruto is the killer. Sasuke sees MS so her sadness is real so ignores his judgement and memories and continues as Boruto's teacher on the run. Code turns the 10 tails into thousands of smaller 10 tails that look like frieza. Ada doesn't know how to undo Omniscience .Timeskip. Sasuke teaches Boruto everything he knows and fights some of those little 10 tails and turns into a tree. Boruto is also trained by Koji Kashin who also has the ability to see all possible futures so is able to teach boruto everything he could know. Several other people fight the little 10 tails and turn into trees including Moegi. Back at Code's home base, tree people are born and they want to eat some specific people. They seem peaceful but very powerful. The tree people look like the people turned into trees. The Moegi one is in love with Konohamaru. Class president is in love with Boruto. Kawakiki and Code are much weaker than Boruto.!<

Himawari was born with a little bit of Kurama’s chakra. So when he died, he started secretly piecing himself back together again in her. He’s not his full size, but he’s alive and Himawari can still tap into his power. It actually looks pretty cool. Her hair turns into tails like Kushina

Man why can't people just accept that the series called Boruto won't have Naruto and Sasuke on the pedestal forever. It's made clear from the start.

Here's the quick of it. You don't like that sasuke was nerfed and lost his rinnegan, well now he's a tree and stuck like that for the forseeable future. You don't like that naruto was nerfed and lost kurama, well now he and hinata are in stasis in an alternate dimension and stuck like that for the forseeable future. You don't like how boruto is the mc, well he's still mc and basically stronger than every other ninja in konoha combined for the forseeable future.

What happens during the Naruto timeskip

Key Considerations of the Naruto Timeskip (2.5 Years)

  1. Training and Growth:

    • Naruto trains with Jiraiya to improve his skills, focusing on mastering the Rasengan and learning new techniques, including the Summoning Jutsu.
    • Sasuke trains with Orochimaru to gain power and learn advanced jutsu, including the Chidori and the Curse Mark.
  2. Character Development:

    • The timeskip allows for significant character growth. Naruto matures both in combat and emotionally, becoming more determined to protect his friends and achieve his dream of becoming Hokage.
    • Sasuke becomes more driven by revenge, leading to a darker path as he seeks power to defeat his brother, Itachi.
  3. New Abilities:

    • Naruto gains access to the Sage Mode and begins to harness the power of the Nine-Tails (Kurama), enhancing his combat abilities.
    • Sasuke develops the Sharingan further, eventually awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan.
  4. New Characters and Teams:

    • New characters are introduced, including members of the Akatsuki and other ninja from different villages.
    • The formation of new teams and dynamics, such as Team 7's return with Sakura and Kakashi, who also undergoes growth during this period.
  5. Plot Progression:

    • The timeskip sets the stage for the Akatsuki's plans and the subsequent conflicts that arise, leading to major story arcs like the "Savior of the World" and the "Fourth Great Ninja War."

Takeaway: The timeskip is crucial for character development and plot progression in "Naruto," allowing characters to evolve and setting up future conflicts that drive the story forward. It emphasizes themes of growth, friendship, and the consequences of choices made by the characters.
