TL;DR
Mastering the Dice Roll
The key to beating King Dice lies in mastering the dice roll. Many players suggest standing directly under the dice and timing your jump and parry to hit the desired number [1:2],
[1:3]. Some recommend jumping when there are two faces left before the number you want
[1:4]. Using pause buffering can also make this process easier
[1:5].
Choosing the Right Loadout
Selecting the right loadout is crucial. Smoke bomb is highly recommended for dodging King Dice's card attacks [1:1],
[5:1]. Miss Chalice's double jump and dash can be particularly useful against his walking cards
[5:11]. Weapons like roundabout, crackshot, and chaser are mentioned frequently as effective choices for both mini-bosses and King Dice himself
[1:2],
[1:6],
[5:2].
Mini-Boss Strategy
It's important to choose mini-bosses that you find easiest. Many players recommend resetting until you get a favorable extra heart roll on bosses you prefer, such as 1, 4, and 8 [3:3],
[5:7]. Avoiding certain bosses, like number 9, can save time and frustration
[4:2],
[4:11].
Parrying Cards During King Dice's Phase
During King Dice's phase, parrying the cards effectively is crucial. Double parrying each card gives more time to jump to the next one [3:3]. If you're struggling, try using P.sugar for easier parries
[3:3]. It's also helpful to stay behind his hand and shoot upwards when possible
[5:2],
[4:3].
Additional Tips
If all else fails, consider resetting until you have enough hearts going into the final phase [5:4]. Remember that King Dice's fight is more of a marathon than a sprint, so manage your resources wisely and adapt to the different phases
[3:1].
Same story every time, I make it to his phase with 2 hp because I’m terrible at rollng the dice and end up fighting more than I have to and missing out on extra hearts, lose a heart, use invincibility super, then die instantly once I lose it. I thought i was pretty good at parrying but apparently not. Honestly what makes it frustrating is the fact i spend 5 minutes per attempt just to spend 5 seconds actually getting practice on king dice. I beat the game before like 7 years ago so ik it’s possible. How did you guys make this less mentally taxing?
I did it, on my 2nd try since I posted this. It seemed like an impossible challenge but it ended up surprisingly simple. I used roundabout for all the mini bosses and chaser for dice himself, plus smoke bomb is all around useful and you can use it to dash through his hand before he sends cards. Basically, the trick of standing directly under the dice and instantly jumping and parrying when you see the desired number works, I got maximum hearts that way (no need to plan for me, just went for the hearts) Then in the final phase, follow the pattern of alternating hands, using ur available ex between attacks (save up super from a previous fight as well) and dashing through his hand if needed. Switch to chaser and jump while aiming up and you can get consistent damage while behind the hand. Occasionally due to rng you will have to parry some cards unfortunately. Thanks for the help guys, surprisingly simple
I tried multiple ways of rolling the die, but the one that worked for me was to stand right under it, and when it gets to the number you want, double tap the jump button. You'll jump and parry immediately, and get the correct number almost every time. It's just a matter of making sure the right number is in front.
I recommend resetting until you get a few hearts on your preferred fights. This gives you some extra insurance for a stray hit, and if you manage to not get hit, you can end up at King Dice with extra HP. It does take up some time to reset until the hearts are in the right places, but in my experience, it doesn't take as much time as getting allllll the way to King Dice, dying immediately, and having to start all over again.
And I feel you about thinking you're good at parrying, then getting wrecked by the cards...I did the same thing. The timing felt a bit off to me - it helped me to parry the cards a little earlier than most parries. Like, parry a split second before you think you should, if that makes any sense.
What i did to get the numbers i wanted on the dice was, i'm sorry if i don't explain myself well, jump over the dice when there are two faces left for the one i want. For example, if i want the number 2, and the dice is rotating to the right, i jump over the dice when the number 1 is in front (because next is gonna show 3 and then the number 2) and if i parry the dice when i am over it then, normally, i'm gonna get 2.
You can also use Heart Ring, there are some bosses whose attacks are relatively easy to parry (for example Pip and dot, Hocus Pocus and Phear Lap) and with them you can get some extra hearts with that charm.
This is the only trick to the dice. PAUSE BUFFERING and using chalice makes it even easier. Dont play fair with the cheap dice
Use smoke bomb or miss chalice
Roundabout and crackshot
To roll the dice, parry: As soon as he claps his hands to get 1
Right as he opens his hands to get 3
A moment after he opens his hands to get 2
Easiest bosses with smoke bomb are chips, domino and roulette
Easiest with chalice are the cigar, domino and 8 ball
For king dice fight itself. Go behind his hands before he shoots cards, when hes done shoot him up and run to the other side. Repeat. Sometimes he wont change hands but its all rng. Pray he does
And with that, good luck
I don’t have crack shot. Won’t it take forever to kill him if you only shoot him with roundabout every once in a while?
Face the other direction
Nvm I just read this again. Yeah as you run just aim at his face
So I just finally beat cupgead today after a year mainly because of king dice. I beat the first 3 isles over 1-2 months but for the past 10 months I had been stuck on the king dice fight i fought him like 700 times and I never won till today but the devil in beat him on my 5th attempt and got a b rank that might be becausei used the degenie thing but i used it on both fights and it still too forever to beat king dice. There are various factors to this for me first the die i never got good enough to control it, 2 the minions they arent hard but they are annoying except for three well 2 now but for the longest time for me it was 3 the first one was the alcohol one i actually did get good at that one but i still hate it, 2 the rabbit i have only dodged his going down card suit attack once and it was by pure luck, and three the chimp it just takes so long and it isnt interesting its flip card shoot till he goes back to phase one where you flip cards repeat it's so boring, 3 the go bock space i hate that space this is also due to me not being able to control the die do not only due i often land on it i also land on the squares I didnt hit the first time, and 5 king dices actual phase his only attack passes me off its a bunch of cards that are randomly started and you have to carry all of them to just make it to the next attack where he does the same thing the 4 card deep start is practically impossible for me. If it helps I'm playing on switch. Also I am not planning on a or s ranking the levels so no advice is needed.
Yes king dice is on of the hardest boss in the game but 10 months to beat him considering you finished all of the 3 islands in 2 months is crazy. It means you beat the dragons and the robot a lot faster and they are considered harder than king dice
Well thats because I quit for like 6 months and quit for shorter time periods between those
I don’t think King Dice is that hard but since the attempts take so much longer with loading time it feels like he is harder.
I'd say it's harder, but easier after you get past the learning curve. It's pretty trivial once you get the die and card parries down.
Yup. It's a test to show how fast can you adaptat to four to ten phases that are almost completly different from each other.
While Devil having phase 2-4 be so similar makes it easier to realize the patterns.
I agree. Dice is harder than the Devil. The only reason I beat him is thanks to a glitch that made his annoying cards vanish, leaving him open my attacks. I guess it's because I am not that good at parrying.
Update: I finally beat him after like 2.5 hours (all together) for the winning round I used Twin Hearts, Charge and Roundabout w super art 2.🥳🥳
Im doing my first play through of Cuphead and while some bosses have been challenging ive been able to overcome them without to much trouble. But once I got to inkwell Hell everything changes…….KING DICE I HATE YOU, IVE SPENT 1.5 Hours DYING OVER AND OVER. I’ve tried different weapons, smoke bomb charm and twin hearts. NOTHING WORKS. And yeah ik it’s probably just a skill issue 💔💔Can anyone give me the ideal loadout to beat him or any tips/tricks. Before I throw my controller (again) 💔
I dread for when the time comes I’ll have to face him.
By now, I’ve beat him 4 times already. He’s actually pretty fun. For some reason though, I struggle with rolling the dice. Like, I try to roll a 2, and end up with 3. Like I’d literally make it to the end, I’ll say “don’t roll a 2, don’t roll a 2! Roll a 3-“ ends up rolling a 2 and now I have to start over.
If you’re really struggling, try this advice.
use P.sugar as it’s easier to hit the dice on the number you want and dodge the cards at the end which is objectively the worst part.
easiest route imo is bosses 1, 4, 8. Retry if a bonus heart doesn’t land on two of them.
double parry each card to give you more time to jump to the next one. I don’t use smoke bomb for him because you need to see yourself the whole time to time it properly and the auto parry makes it way easier.
Good luck!
I disagree wirh psguar you can kinda spam a for the parry on the dice. You just have time find the right timing anyway. But as I said in my other comment it is mostly preference

This Is the Song of king dice on the Cuphead show??!!😭😭😭🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
No it's the one from the game, when you enter in the bridges between the islands with him.
Fun fact, "die house" (this song) is sang by a woman
That's my song
KING DICE, IM YOUR BIGGEST FAN!
King it's just a scream of soul (ironic isn't it?) i have beaten you on S rank today, on GEO difficulty and it was quite easy! So they're just haters don't lose the mood! (Yeye I'm surprised myself that i support you but uh... Yeah)
Why make me suffer 😞
The loadout I use is charge shot and the triple lighting shot from the DLC shop along with super one and smoke bomb. King dice is a marathon not a race so don’t be scared to burn your cards, you will make them back. A lil tip with parrying the dice is that if you spam parry right as he claps the number will always be a one so just focus on fighting as few bosses as possible while also stock piling the health spots
i already beat every boss in Regular Mode including the DLC in just 6.5 hours. (i thought nothing can stop me anymore) but then King dice came in and i can't beat him. any tipps for him?
Try and restart until you get a favourable extra heart roll
AVOID 9 AT ALL COSTS
3.i like using roundabout and charge but you could swap roundabout for spread
4.listen to rule 2
Tip for number 9
Remember the 2 king dice head ones
and the rest will be way easier
Why avoid me.chimes?
Hes hard for most but you might disagree
why avoid 9? it isn't that hard
If all else fails you could quickly rush to a side once you hit “fin” and his fight starts and hope you are on the side behind his hand and can do slow damage while shooting up with crackshot. Just switch to the other side when the cards stop. Only thing you need to watch out for is after his third wave he usually doesnt switch sides, after that you should be fine.
Roundabout goes through his hand too if you jump up while shooting. Saves a lot of time compared to Crackshot.
I actually managed to get an A+ rank with Mr. Chimes in the mix. By screenshotting all of the cards at the beginning of the fight, saving it to my phone, and constantly pausing to look at it. It isn't cheating if there isn't a penalty.
To make sure to get your favorable number, I usually plan to hit the number that shows up before the actual number I want. Pace it, get the tempo then hit. UNLESS you play as Chalice, then pace it and get the tempo for the actual number you want.
I used the Heart Ring, Crackshot, and Roundabout and the Super Art 1.
Just parry the same pink card if you can't reach the next.
If you have the dlc, try using ms chalice, so you gave double jump and the dice phase could be quite easier
But at the end its harder to parry cards
You can cheese it a bit by going behind his hand, but you’ll need chaser or crackpot to hit him, and they’re not guaranteed to always hit him. Beat him using this method but it took a bit to finish the fight.
You have to be lucky that he chooses that side for his hand to activate his power; it's easy if you get it set up right.
That can be easy with the hand power, bc if you sit in the middle he will choice a side then you just rinse and repeat miss chalice double jump and parry dash to dodge all the cards
miss chalice's double jump and her dash are also very good against KDs walking cards
Get really good at rolling the dice. Like so good that you'll almost never make a mistake. Then you can try the same bosses to figure out which are the easiest. If you have smoke bomb (which you should) the easiest bosses are any of the first 3, 5 (provided you are confident parrying in this way. If not then use super invincibility frames) and 7. Then King Dice himself is a whole another challenge but I personally parry right before I hit the card. Use an ex or long gaps. If you get really desperate, he almost always alternates left and right hands so you can hide behind his hand. He does only take damage from his face though. Hope this helps!
Thanks so much! I just always get hit when he makes the puppet
Worst case scenario you can reset until the hearts land on the bosses you like, so you'll have 4 or more hp going into the last phase so you can take some hits.
how to get better at rolling the dice
Find the easiest bosses personally it’s 3 5 and 8, then reset until the hearts line up on them (it’s surprisingly not too tedious)
2 is much easier than than 3. 3 has a lot of health though and 7 is easier if you have smoke dash
You're doing way more work than you need to. Just fight three bosses.
Both, but it depends really, you’ll mostly rely on jumping and shooting, but you can aim up at times to get him.
I thought I finally S ranked him but nooooo. For some reason the time was somehow incorrect. I thought it would be under 5 minutes but nooooo. Apparently 4:42 is not good wnough for this damn cube head.
Player who S ranked King Dice right here:
I recommend rolling 2 or 3, 6, then 8. These are the easier mini bosses, in my opinion. I use the auto party to time the rolls easier, but if you can roll accurately without it, go for the smoke bomb.
Rolling a 2 gets you the poker chips. I recommend using the charge shot or the default shooter. Same for 3, which is the cigar.
6 is the horsetrack. It’s a plane level, so your shooter doesn’t really matter. Just watch out for the blue hooded riders at the bottom, they spring up to hit you.
8 is the 8 ball. You can use the spread shot and stand underneath him to take him out quickly. Just move out of the way of his projectiles and the orange chalk cube. There are three colored chalk cubes, but only the orange one will land right in the center.
Now you’ll be fighting King Dice. Use your Super whenever you can. I recommend using Super 1, since it does the most damage and it’s easier to control. Just hold down your fire button while parrying over the cards, and use your extra shoot when he’s not sending cards at you.
Other than that, it comes down to luck. Maybe you’ll get some extra hearts on the easier bosses. Maybe you’ll land a bunch of shots at once and take a boss down faster. Maybe you’ll get the glitch where King Dice gets stuck in the card-sending position without actually sending cards, leaving you to do all the damage you want without worrying about getting hit. That’s what happened to me, anyway.
Yup, just reset the fight until all of the hearts are on easy bosses. It's pretty easy to get the timing of the dice down, with some practice, so that you can control what bosses you land on. Go into kind dice with 6 hearts. Ez pz. I only have a few S ranks and king dice is one of them.
My best time for s ranking him is 2 minutes 22 seconds
He is kinda hard ngl
Super art ii allows you to skip one wave of cards.
If you jump and parry the dice as you start to fall it only moves 2 faces, just jump in the number after the one you want. If you master that you can chose the bosses find easier, or collect the 3 hearts. Using the Hearth Ring gives you 3 extra hearts for 1,2 & 6 parries, plus the 3 on the board, you can end up whit 9 HP, enough to beat him for good. Also, use Spread on him and Roundabout (Crackshot if you already have DLC) for the minibosses. That does the job
I have a world in cuphead and i do every boss A and i am at king dice and i have no clue of how to beat him
Get good at rolling the dice to the desired number, aim for hearts, avoid Mr chimes. Don't use chalice because it makes the last part much harder with parrying.
Did you actually try ms chalice in this fight? Using ms chalice actually makes king dice phase super easy cause there's an extended hitbox to the cards. And her parry system makes rolling the dice even easier
Yeah I beat king dice with her to get the chalice filter, but almost died in the last part with the cards. It's true the hitbox is bigger though. And her double jump gives your better mobility to reach the pink cards. So there's some positives
I don't have the dlc
I second the getting good at the dice rolling. I just beat this the other day and would always roll to get to the extra life or free space.
What worked for me is standing directly under the die and double tapping jump on the number before the number I wanted (depends on which way it was spinning). I hope that makes sense
Try to aim for 2, 4, and 8 as the mini bosses, as I find those to be easiest. Avoid 1, 6, and 9, as those are the hardest. If you have the DLC, use the crackshot, it does more damage than the chaser, and aimbots any enemy on screen. Also, use the heart ring as your charm, since you’ll be parrying plenty throughout the entirety of the fight. Best of luck to you.
Use a super art immediately after his card attack, it bugs the fight out and makes it easier
I made it! A+ thanks everyone
Thanks all for the tips i will try again
I know this has been asked before but i tried every suggestion and whenever i finally reach the boss himself i just cant parry the cards i always get damaged from every single attack and sometimes i just instantly die when he first lowers his hand after the dice i have been stuck on him for 3 days now
here are a few good tips for the king himself.
if you stay right where the dice is in the middle of the screen, you wont be instantly hit with his hand when he starts his attack.
i would definitely recommend clicking parry a little while before hitting the card, i often see people try to click parry right when they hit the card, but there's a considerable window of time to parry the card, and also, parry the same card twice if you need to wait for the next parryable card to appear.
the chaser is pretty nice for this fight. you will be at a disadvantage for the rest of the boss rush, but it is much easier to just parry and not have to worry about hitting him. i know you dont have the dlc, so crackshot is out of the picture.
I have no idea how I did it but when I played him for the first time he was stuck in animation with absolutely nothing attacking me so cheesed my way through
God i hope that happened to me instead if cursing at him for 3 days straight
YouTube it I'm sure there's a way to activate it just like any other game glitch. Does take away the fun a bit tho
If you have the dlc you can kinda cheese it with Ms Chalice. Using her second super to simply stack health and brute force your way through his cards, works well with spread shot and either auto target shot
Actually i beat it already thanks to u/flickyourthots But i am now stuck on the devil it has like 3 times the health of other bosses
I used the same method on the devil as well but primary used spread shot. Once you get past his first phase I find it easiest to keep moving till he starts summoning his minions. Since they can be killed you can focus them down every time they come and just try to survive using your super
I have only killed hist first phase once and died by the skeleton jumping on me. Granted though i only played him like 4 times but i still think he’s easier than king dice
A cheap way to do it is run behind the hand shooting out the cards. There’s a safe place right near the edge of the screen. Use the crack shot and jump while shooting. Then once the cards are done run back to the middle of the screen and use supers or special arts to hit him. Then back to the side where the hand is coming from. Takes some time but it works without having to parry the cards.
I don’t have the dlc i was waiting to beat the game before buying it so what other weapon can i use?
Yeah that one that doesn’t need aiming. The green bullet one. Forgot the name. That and spread shot. Do the trick and switch to the spread when it’s clear.
YES I FINALLY DID IT(I wasn't trying to get A+) How long did it take you to beat king dice for me 1 week
With a keyboard (first playthrough) it took me over 2 months.
2 years later, the dlc released and I got a controller as a gift, it took me 5 days to beat him 💀
Took me 5 and a half years to beat the game no joking
Dang that's just sad
Almost a year if we're counting time inbetween attempts
On first isle because I forgot about the game and only played simple so yeah took me 4 months to do most of the game
I bought the game almost a year ago, got to king dice and couldn't beat him so I gave up and restarted the game like a week ago and I beat it
Great job man
Thanks
You're welcome. Good luck beating the devil :)
just roundabout can be really good btw
I'll try that
