How to Cure Radiation in Subnautica

TL;DR To cure radiation in Subnautica, you need to repair the Aurora's drive core using a laser cutter and repair tool. This stops the radiation leak affecting your environment [3:3].

Repairing the Aurora

The primary method to cure radiation in Subnautica involves repairing the Aurora's damaged drive core. You will need a laser cutter and repair tool to access and fix the leaks. Once repaired, the radiation gradually dissipates from the surrounding area [3:3]. Make sure to explore the Aurora thoroughly as there are multiple entrances and areas to investigate [3:8].

Radiation Suit

If you're experiencing radiation in your base or other areas before fixing the Aurora, wearing all three pieces of the radiation suit will protect you from its effects [3:3]. However, this is only a temporary solution until the source of radiation is addressed.

Potential Glitches

Sometimes, players experience radiation due to glitches, especially if they have already fixed the Aurora. If this occurs, double-check for any spent nuclear rods or uraninite deposits that might be causing issues [3:5][3:7]. If no physical cause is found, it may require reloading the game or seeking further assistance online [3:6].

Exploration and Progression

Beyond dealing with radiation, progressing in Subnautica requires curing yourself of the game's infection. This involves interacting with the Sea Emperor Leviathan and crafting the hatching enzyme after gathering specific resources [5:2][5:6]. Exploring deeper areas like the Lava Lakes and the Alien Thermal Plant will provide necessary blueprints and items [2:1][5:7].

By following these steps, you can effectively manage radiation and progress further in Subnautica's storyline.

If your sub was close to full integrity, he should release you when you have around 30% left if I remember correctly. Once that happens, run like crazy.

Think most hostile creatures will back off for a moment after hitting you. Just don't leave your seamoth unattended or the reaper will destroy it

Don't escape towards your base though as it is possible to get a glitch where the leviathan follows you almost all the way back to base.

That can’t cause radiation as far as i know. Could you take a video of where exactly the radiation is? Where it’s worst and where it stops, for example

In the short term, put on all three pieces of the radiation suit and you'll be protected. In the long term, you need to cut off the radiation at the source- the Aurora and its blown-out drive core.

Friend to a friend, make sure you bring a laser cutter and repair tool to the wreck.

Quacky_Ranz · OP · 4 months ago

This isn't a problem, I've already beaten the game, so really the only thing left for me to do is scan stuff, but all of a sudden my base and the surrounding area is irradiated. There are no loose reactor rods or uraninite. I had to make a new radiation suit to stay at my own home

Herculepoirot314 · 4 months ago

I'm going to give you increasingly-specific directions. If any directions don't seem clear enough or you're sick of searching, unspoiler the next one.

>!You'll want to look for the Drive Core. When you get in the general area, there will be signs that point it out, but before that it's a bit of a maze. Poke around carefully, and your PDA will let you know when you find it.!<

>!There's multiple entrances. Stand on the outside part of aurora wreck and try to get onto the "second floor." There's a few entrances, this one requires a little walking around but you'll find it. There's a small box with an item in it right by the entrance, and you'll need to sidestep some fire. Bring one or two spare fire extinguishers to ease your way. From there it's a pretty easy route, just make sure to read the PDAs you find to get access codes.!<

>!Find the top entrance into the aurora. There's some cargo blocking your way, but you can get around it by dropping down from the ledge above. When you get to the locked door, the code is 1454. Walk through, and you'll see the sign pointing you to the drive core. You can repair the breaches with your repair tool. Also look through the whole ship, there's lots of important things there. Make sure you find some prawn suit fragments to make a blueprint. You may not be there yet, but when you have the code there's a room on the aurora that you'll want to open to complete the story.!<

>!Someone made a video guide for it! Door code is 1454. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEcCOwhDFI8 Enjoy.!<

>!Second guide for everything in the aurora. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lN7LAaJ3r1M Should be useful.!<

Hope this helps!

Also listen to all of the voice notes in your PDA for any door codes. You can google them if you need, but I prefer to get my info from in game.

I feel like have done pretty much everything in the game, I have built the rocket after gathering all the materials needed. However, I obviously need to be cured on whatever I am infected on but I don’t have any clue on how to do it, I’ve looked through my pda for clues but can’t find anything.

I could do with some guidance as to how to go about to the cure but not tell me exactly how to as I don’t want to spoil it for myself.

I’m guessing you haven’t gotten her to open the portal for you. Spoilers ahead:

You need to go towards her eggs on the ground. Then she’ll land close to you and give you the quest, and then she’ll blow away the sand covering the portal there. You’ll get a blueprint for things you need to collect in order to formulate the thing she wants. Create that and then come back to her and use the device near the eggs. Her young will hatch and after you speak to her they’ll release these golden things in the water. Touch it and you’re cured. Then head to the facility on the mountain island and get that thing to jab you in the hand again and the defences will go down, allowing you to take off. Friendly tip, the portal the Emperor activates is right next to the underwater entrance of the facility, so you can easily return to her through that instead of having to go down through the Lost River and the Lava Zones and all of that.

Ok I tried to make a post but I don't have enough post karma (whatever TF that means) I'm at a point where my prawn suit is maxed, orange key is used, got jump scared to high hell by some fire breathing lava lizard, both islands explored as well as the 3 dagassi bases or whatever they're called and am having weird hallucinations of some talking fish as well as the disease spreading to my hands where they crack and have green blisters. Nothing new has popped up on my radio. Any ideaswhat I may be missing ?

Detailed but spoiler filled explanation of what to do below:

>!Check your blueprint tab for something called the hatching enzyme, you NEED to make that. Each of the portals in the facility at 1700 m base lead to a biome that contains one of each resource besides one which you can get pretty much anywhere, but the easiest place would be with the friendly Leviathan!<

Radiation PSA

Posted by SnooPeanuts7777 · in r/duneawakening · 2 months ago

When the radiation meter fills up to 75% it goes all red and doesn't show progress.

Well, pressing the hotkey that displays time of day will also show a numerical value for your radiation top left. It's out of 150k iirc and you can watch it go up and see if you'll make it.

It's the 3 line key on Xbox controller, T on keyboard I think.

Happy jasminium mining all.

That's not accurate. Source: died on my bike from radiation. Then died three more times (twice after getting back on bike) from respawning on it, until my rad went down enough (which was weird since the last two times I died again, my radiation bar was actually showing zero.)

1 upvotes on reddit
Spazic · 2 months ago

Also, I hit 150k and stayed there for like 30 seconds without dying before leaving the rad zone. I don’t think it’s an insta death.

3 upvotes on reddit
LeonardMH · 2 months ago

It does say "at risk of instant death", which is not super clear wording but I think implies that when the meter is not full you aren't at risk of death, but when it is full you start getting a chance of instant death.

The "instant death" part of that doesn't necessarily mean that it will happen instantly when the meter is full, just that you won't have any other warning such as your health starting to drop.

I don’t think it’s instant death either. I read somewhere that once you fill up your meter there is a chance you could die and every game tick that goes up an amount. Buuuut I haven’t tested it yet. Maybe I’ll do it tonight

Weird, I Respawn at my vehicle just yesterday and was able to retrieve my body and leave..

It was the first time I died to radiation though, so maybe it's like your first worm death where they are a bit more lenient?

1 upvotes on reddit
morblitz · 2 months ago

Think of the rad metre as time to death. Not once it hits 100% it starts to hurt you.

Radiation generally isnt good lol

There's a striga wire recording of someone with substandard rad gear actively getting cooked while they record the message and they know they won't last much longer.

This makes a lot of sense. I did my first jasmium mining run today, rad level all the suddenly was maxed but I wasn't dead so I figured my health would tick away or something. Hopped in my thopter and flew off only to die airborne 10sec later. Thank god I had a spare thopter in my base so I could fly back and get all my shit without losing a couple hours.

It tells you time of day, shows your equipment repair level, and actually tells you what those buff icons do. Its got some nice info. But I mostly use it to check rads. I didn't realize until a few days ago that there's a meter at the bottom.

Is the full meter indication a bug? I can't imagine they intended for the rad level above 75% to become a big mystery. Hopefully they can fix it at some point.

Yes, but you have to go to at least the power plant to get the blue tablet. You don't have to go to any Degasi bases, the QEP, or the Disease research base. You do have to go to the Aurora eventually to get the rocket plans, but you don't have to do that before you get cured.

How to cure radiation in subnautica

Key Considerations for Curing Radiation in Subnautica:

  1. Location of Radiation: Radiation is primarily found around the crash site of the Aurora, which is located in the northern part of the map.

  2. Radiation Suit: To protect yourself from radiation, you need to craft a Radiation Suit. This requires:

    • 2 x Fiber Mesh (crafted from Creepvine Samples)
    • 1 x Lead (found in limestone outcrops or as a wreckage)
  3. Crafting the Radiation Suit:

    • Access your Fabricator.
    • Select the "Equipment" tab.
    • Choose "Radiation Suit" and ensure you have the required materials.
  4. Removing Radiation Source: To permanently remove radiation from the area:

    • You must repair the Aurora. This involves:
      • Finding the Repair Tool (crafted from 1 x Silicone Rubber, 1 x Cave Sulfur, and 1 x Titanium).
      • Repairing the radiation leak in the Aurora's drive core.
  5. Using the Repair Tool:

    • Equip the Repair Tool.
    • Approach the radiation leak and interact to repair it.

Takeaways:

  • Always wear the Radiation Suit when near the Aurora until you repair it.
  • Collect materials early to craft the Radiation Suit and Repair Tool to minimize radiation exposure.
  • Once the Aurora is repaired, the radiation will dissipate, allowing you to explore the area safely.

Recommendation: Focus on gathering resources for the Radiation Suit first, as it will allow you to explore the area around the Aurora without taking damage from radiation.
