Scarcity and Desirability
The value of Funko Pops is primarily determined by scarcity and desirability. Older, limited edition pops that are "vaulted" (no longer in production) tend to be more valuable [1:1]. Popular characters can also drive up prices due to high demand
[1:1]. Items with a numbered sticker indicating limited production are particularly sought after
[1:1].
Market Research Tools
To assess the value of your Funko Pops, several tools are recommended. HobbyDB is frequently mentioned as a useful resource for checking past sales from multiple vendors [1:2]
[3:3]. Additionally, eBay's sold listings provide insight into what people are actually paying for specific Funko Pops
[1:2]
[4:5]. The Funko app is generally considered unreliable for valuations
[4:1]
[4:4].
Selling Strategies
If you're looking to sell your collection, selling individually or in small lots might yield better returns than selling in bulk [2:1]
[2:2]. However, this approach requires time and effort for listing and shipping each item. Bulk offers often reflect the buyer's intention to resell for profit, so they may undervalue individual items
[2:2].
Collecting for Enjoyment vs. Investment
Many collectors emphasize the importance of collecting Funko Pops because you enjoy them rather than solely for investment purposes. The market can fluctuate, and values are not guaranteed to increase over time [5:3]
[5:5]. Collectibles like Funko Pops should be purchased based on personal enjoyment and interest in the characters or series
[5:6]
[5:7].
Considerations Beyond Discussions
While market trends and tools are important, consider factors such as the condition of the box and pop, potential future releases, and shifts in collector interests. Engaging with online communities and forums can provide additional insights and updates on market dynamics.
Hello everyone, I'm starting to collect Funkos! I have a couple already (see pics) but just want to know what makes a funko pop valuable? I collect sports cards as well, so I don't really have a clue. Anything would help and let me know if any of my pops are worth anything!
Generally the most valuable are older , limited print pops.
Funko tends to rerelease their more modern exclusives , where some of the old ones are “vaulted” and will not print again I guess you could say. (But Funko has been talking about reprinting some older , valuable pops . Which has made people with these pops angry. It will drive the value down)
Popular characters sell out quick, driving the price up.
Anything with a number directly on the box/sticker like “3400 pcs” or something . The smaller the number the more valuable .
Chases - certain pops have a 1 in 6 chance of being different than the standard pop of that same number and series . If you order 1 pop, that has the chance of a chase directly from funko ( or chalice collectibles , GameStop , or places that get exclusives with the vendor stickers . For an example) , you have a 1 in 6 chance of receiving the variation. If you order 6 from a retailer like Funko, or shop that advertises it you are guaranteed a chase . These are more valuable , and can be purchased at a higher price than the standard variations of the same pop. Some chases are glow, some are flocked , some have completely different sculpts.
“Protos” can be valuable for popular characters . They are prototype printings , usually one or two main colours . Used as a test before beginning printing . I believe they used to make 2 whites , then 2 colours of each mold before beginning the actual prints .
For value, Google hobbydb It’s not always accurate but displays past sales from multiple vendors .
It’s also good to check the sold tab on eBay , of the pop you have/are looking for . To see what has been purchased recently and what people are actually paying .
The Funko app pricing is horrendous .
The same thing that makes anything valuable, (scarcity x desirability). Personally, in a small house, I desire space, and funkos take up a lot of it.
nice collectible item
hello everyone! I have a very serious question and i hope I can find an answer! I have Funko Pop collection of over 1800, no BS! I have my entire collection listed on HobbyDB. I need to sell basically my ENTIRE collection for financial reasons (is there any other?)
I have looked online, and only one company has given me an offer. For close to my entire collection, I'm being offered about 14K. Great! But as I go through the individual item list, some pops are, I feel, undervalued. I kind of take into consideration popularity of the pop itself, but offering me $1.75 for a Pop I paid $25, then to find out they're reselling it on eBay for $36 kinda feels like I'm taking for a ride. Offer me 15, but a 1.75? And the list goes on...
To my actual question. Is there a place online with actual fair and up to date price evaluation? HobbyDB is NOT it. They value my collection at 45k. Any info would be great!
That offer is so that they can sell them on and make a profit, even if it's small. If you want some of your Funko Pops to go for the market rate then you'll need to sell them individually yourself, some won't be worth anything, then there's delivery and packaging costs to take into consideration. It will be easier to accept the 14k offer and get rid of them in one go. If you take out the more valuable ones and do this it's unlikely anyone will want to buy the rest in bulk. What they're worth is difficult to say because it comes down to what people are willing to pay. Check sites like eBay and Vinted and see what the ones you have sold for.
If you want fair market value for your Pops, then you have to sell them yourself individually or in small lots. That takes time and effort to take pictures and post. Then you have to ship each one which takes a box, bubble wrap, and a label. And you have to wait for them to sell.
Pops and other collectibles are down right now and values have dropped significantly after the Pop hype of COVID died down.
Getting 30% is pretty good in today's market. Look at sold listings for some of your Pops on eBay and Mercari and I bet a lot of them are selling for way less than PPG, especially common ones.
PPG is the best guides, but if you want more accurate values, you'll have to look them up individually on eBay sold listings.
Glad the community has you reorganizing and enjoying the Funkos
But how do you define the value of a pop? By how much you payed, by how much the apps tell or by emotional value? Either way nice pops you got
I was going by HobbyDB price guide for the current value.
Was given some funkos and I do r normally collect these but someone showed me this app and I wanted to know if this is correct selling wise
Why does the app have to put the ‘value’ on it? That just disappoints people. Funko Pop collections are not a financial investment
Me coming into this collection I didn’t know what to make out of it I just know I’m not really gonna keep these
There should be a pinned comment saying “Don’t use the Funko app for valuations” message at the top of the sub.
Well I literally just joined this today to ask this question lol I don’t bother with funkos but if it’s not worth anything oh well
I didn’t mean it to sound like a jab at you brother, but we see this several times a month.
Where should we go for valuations?
A mix of HobbyDB and eBay sold listings
nah the prices on the funko app r not really reliable. u usually gotta check hobbydb, mercari, or ebay to see recently sold prices
Reference hobby DB as well as self research ebay last solds.
The simple answer is their estimates pricing is so far off that you can't trust it for anything.
Well I don’t know anything about them I just figured I can come here
That wasn't a blast on you, more how poor their official app is. If you're getting into the hobby for value id suggest you're too late to the game though.
I saw a post here the other day, and now I'm genuinely curious. I collect funko pops because I like many series/movies/games/anime etc and also for the value (stay with me on this one⬇️).
Example: I have several vaulted POP's that will continue to increase in value, and eventually if I lose interest in those caracthers from series/movies/games/anime etc, I'd sell them and make a profit. So it's not the main goal BUT i do keep an eye on that when I choose what to buy.
Also, I know people that use PopGrinder to keep track on the value of each POP.
So, does anyone here share the same insights as me? Let me know :)
Edit: I guess what I intended to say was, when I buy funko pops, I try to make the best deal so I don't lose money (buying every pop at his lowest price, so if it's worth 50€ I don't buy it for 100€)
The best reason to buy is because you like them. The reality is that in the past two years Funko changed their strategy. They restock a lot. Buying something new with the intention That it’ll increase in price over time is no longer reliable. Case in point art the clown with sunglasses. It sold out, resale price was decent but it restocked multiple time and then a pre sale restock. They restock so much that values don’t hold up for most recent pops.
Buy pops because you like the because the resale value is not guaranteed for pops going forward. At least that’s my opinion and how I view it now. I no longer impulse buy.
Yeah I actually know that example too 🤣 I was looking for one of those for a long time but then I gave up and ended up hating the movie LOL But I guess what I intended to say was, when I buy funko pops: I try to make the best deal so I don't lose money (buying every pop at his lowest price, so if it's worth 50€ I don't buy it for 100€)
>Example: I have several vaulted POP's that will continue to increase in value, and eventually if I lose interest in those characters from series/movies/games/anime etc, I'd sell them and make a profit. So it's not the main goal BUT i do keep an eye on that when I choose what to buy.
Fyi, I heard beanie baby collectors say exactly that back in the day.... You do it because you like it or you do it because you think they will go up in value. Don't kid yourself that it's both. Thats kinda like saying you buy a companies stock because not only do you like the company, but you think it will go up in value... Sure, but when it starts to tank how much money are you willing to lose?
Any collectable is a gamble, not an investment.
But in my case, if it goes down in value I just keep it 😂 unless I start to hate that specific pop over time (it happened before). It's not a situation that makes me nervous (If I were always seeing their value), it's a hobby that makes me happy all the time.
Yea I get that, same, I'm just saying, don't think about future value when buying. Like if you you go "wow 150 is way too much, I probably wouldn't buy it except I can always sell it when I get tired of it" that could really come back to bite you later.
But if you go "this is worth $150 to me to have in my collection", that's fine imo.
Came here to make this exact point. I remember the height of the Beanie Baby craze. Do it because you like it, because the bottom can fall out of the market overnight.
Collectibles have no guarantee of value ever, anything can simply tank overnight. Collect what you enjoy. If you can turn a small profit along the way to make collecting easier, that’s perfectly fine. I’ve been doing that for years. But I don’t think about value anymore, I just collect what I enjoy owning, what I’m proud to have.
Brings me memories of when I was happy
We do it just because
So I am thinking of drastically downsizing my collection. How do I know which pricing is most accurate?
Recent sold listings on eBay
Yeah I figured and was hopeful I could find a pricing guide
I have the Hobby DB app, but honestly, it's a buyers market right now. I've learned to go on Ebay or Mercari and use the "sold" button. It's been a cold, hard reality check.
Thanks I'll have to give that a try as well.
check ebay
I was afraid of that LOL. I didn't want to work very hard.
First off, most of my pops are unboxed which I know reduces value. I don’t plan to sell them, I’m just curious to know which ones are worth a decent amount.
The Funko app bases their worth off the pop price guide, and the pop price guide bases their worth off what they have been selling for at places like Amazon and eBay
I find the most accurate is to look them up on eBay at "sold for" prices.
Funko has their own official app. Pop price guide is a site that also gives you values of your pops
I’d love to see the sizes and values of everyone’s collection! Check mine out below and share yours!
635 items, $10,140
That includes probably around 100 non-Pop items though, mostly Mystery Minis and PSH.
No. of Items 922
Total Est. Value $40,188.00
Most recent top 10 Tuesday pic: https://m.imgur.com/a/UHZQapg
75 items (includes mystery minis, pint size, etc), value $1200. Personal value outweighs the monetary value for me lol.
POPs: 258 Value: $8,979
620 Pops and the value is priceless. I am not selling my shit.
Do you count your customs in that 620? I remember you had some muppets I love.
I actually don't. If that were the case I'm around 635
I read on the rules no selling, etc but this is just a question mods, thank you :) If im at the wrong place please tell me where to ask
I have 15-ish of my overwatch pops that i'd like to dispose of eventually on the marketplace or somewhere else. They still smell like cigarettes from previous owner, they don't have their box and some have scratches (and 3 can't stand up anymore) I am a total newbie for prices on these and wanted you guys' opinion on it. Thanks in advance
To value pops, one would typically check hobbydb/ppg for a trending value or ebay last sold for current values. OOB value is usually half of in box value.
Unfortunately even in box a lot of the OW pops don't go for all that much, even less so in the condition they're in (smoke/missing stands/scratches)
Definitely sell them online yourself, you'd be lucky to get a 1 or 2 dollars a piece if you try to sell at a store.
Thank you ! (and happy cake day)
How to determine the value of Funko Pops
Key Considerations for Determining the Value of Funko Pops:
Rarity: Limited edition or exclusive Funko Pops (e.g., convention exclusives) tend to have higher value. Check if the item was part of a limited run.
Condition: The condition of the box and the figure itself is crucial. Mint condition items fetch higher prices. Look for any signs of damage, such as dents, scratches, or creases.
Market Demand: Popular characters or franchises (like Marvel, Disney, or Star Wars) often have higher demand, which can increase value. Check current trends in the collector community.
Price Guides and Marketplaces: Use online resources like Pop Price Guide, Funko App, or eBay to check current market values. These platforms provide real-time pricing based on recent sales.
Social Media and Collector Communities: Engage with Funko Pop collector groups on platforms like Reddit or Facebook. These communities can provide insights on value fluctuations and trends.
Recommendation: Regularly monitor the value of your Funko Pops, as prices can fluctuate based on market trends. If you're considering selling, timing your sale when demand is high can maximize your return. Always keep your Pops in their original packaging to maintain their value!
