How to Find Prawn Suit Fragments in Subnautica

TL;DR

  • The Aurora ship is a primary location for large Prawn Suit fragments.
  • Additional fragments can be found in wrecks at locations like the Floating Islands, Dunes, and Grand Reef.

Aurora Ship

The Aurora is a key location for finding Prawn Suit fragments. Inside the Prawn Bay of the Aurora, you can find large fragments that are essential for unlocking the suit. You typically need to scan 3 or 4 of these large fragments to complete the blueprint [2:2], [2:8], [4:6]. It's crucial to ensure you've scanned all available fragments here, as missing one can lead to confusion about progress [4:5].

Other Wreck Locations

Apart from the Aurora, several other wreck sites contain Prawn Suit fragments. Notable locations include:

  • Floating Islands: This area often contains multiple fragments [2:3], [5:2].
  • Dunes: While dangerous due to Reaper Leviathans, this area can yield fragments if you explore the wrecks carefully [5:1].
  • Grand Reef: Known for its depth, the Grand Reef has wrecks that may contain necessary fragments [3:2].

Fragment Types and Misunderstandings

There is some confusion regarding the number of fragments needed due to changes in game updates. Initially, players thought they needed 20 small fragments, but this was corrected to needing only 4 large fragments [4:1], [4:2]. If you encounter a "0/20" glitch, it might just be a visual bug [4:8].

Use of Scanner Rooms

Building and using scanner rooms can significantly aid in locating wrecks and fragments. By setting up scanner rooms with range extenders, you can more effectively search areas like the Red Grass Plains and Floating Mountains for hidden wrecks [3:1], [3:4].

Additional Tips

For those struggling to find specific fragments, such as the drill arm or grappling arm, exploring deeper biomes and using resources like YouTube tutorials can be beneficial [5:6]. These guides often provide visual walkthroughs that can simplify the search process.

if you are scanning small fragments, you get 1/20 of the prawn suit. if you go to the aurora and find the prawn bay, you can scan big fragments wich only require a few to get the prawn suit. my advice: go to the aurora

1 upvotes on reddit
Maelztromz · 4 years ago

Without mods, there should be enough large fragments on the Aurora (you don't need 20 large fragments, the tooltip in game is confusing).

I have a mod that ups the required number, so I know where to find more.

The wreck in the floating islands has several.

Wrecks in the dunes and sea treaders path are likely to have some.

Are you confusing it with the ingredients required to make/craft the item, in this case a prawn suit.

I also found some other prawn suit fragments either underneath the mountain island on one of the floating islands or above the lost river in a few boxes outside a wreck

[No spoilers] I cannot find any prawn suit blueprints other than the propulsion arms, where can I find others

Posted by science-n-shit · in r/subnautica · 1 month ago

There might be spoilers for new players in this post since I am roughly mid game

I am mostly no spoilers, but I am looking at the basic map of the biomes and have at least been to every biome, but I'm not sure if I have fully explored some of the deeper/more dangerous ones. I have not found the entrances to the >!lost river caves!< yet, only the jellyshrooms.

But I am losing my mind. I have found around 20 propulsion arms for the prawn suit around the map, yet I still have not found the drill arm, jetpack, or grappling arm blueprints. I feel like I can't go much deeper than my seamoth/cyclops at 500m because the prawn without upgrades can't jump back up to the cyclops.

I tried to use the prawn without the cyclops to go deeper and got stuck in the >!north dunes by the alien biological history crater!<. I couldn't get myself up and over the cliffs using the prawn suit with no upgrades to get back to the mushroom forest before I died and reverted back to my last save.

I also haven't found one or more ingredients to make torpedoes for any of the vehicles.

I feel so stuck, please help!

I dont know if you're on console or not. If you're m&k, then you'll have the ability to access coordinates. There is a wreckage site that's relatively safe in the grand reef(-289, -773) approximately 200 meters deep that would have grapple arm fragments. There is another wreckage if you haven't already been to it in the middle of the underwater island biome directly next to the enforcement platform that 170 meters down should also yield some grapple fragments

Also, i believe the jump jet upgrade is an automatic unlock in the vehicle upgrade console

The only way you're gonna get nickle, though, is in the lost river. There is an entrance close to life pod 19 that is very tight, but it's my go-to for trips in the cyclops due to how safe it is and easy to navigate. Just hug the left wall in a seamoth with the best max depth module, and you'll reach the blue lookin stuff that's where you'll find the nickle

You need to investigate wreck sites. If you don't have it yet, you need to swim around with the materials to build a scanner room + solar panel + hatch, I reccomend 3x range extenders and 1x speed extender. Start with the wrecks in the red grassy plains, then, making sure your repair tool is charged, head north to floating mountains and be prepared to fend of sand sharks. Build your scanner room wherever you can and start with searching for wrecks. Find a wreck and switch to scanning for fragments.

It’s not a bug and not a mod, it’s vanilla. The 20 fragments are just for the “complete” prawn suit set, the suit, and all the different arms+upgrades types.
Scanning the prawn suit fragments (3 or 4 can’t remember) should unlock it.

You might be misremembering which fragments you’ve scanned.

Edit: nvm

in earlier versions of the game, you could scan the regular prawn arms to make progress for the prawn suit blueprint, which took 20 fragments, but it was completely broken, not only was is extremely difficult if even possible to find 20 of those arms (I believe it was very likely less than 20 total would spawn on the map), because it shared progress with the 4 suit fragments, it was extremely buggy

eventually they just made those arms unscannable and now you just scan the 4 suit fragments

sometimes it glitches and it shows the "0/20" fragments thing in current versions, you should be able to get it from the 4 normal fragments

Smart-Ad-614 · 30 days ago

Technically no, because you can get a cyclops and make the upgrades that need kyanite by using a reinforced dive suit and several extra large o2 tanks or raw bladder fish or swim bladders. Then grab the kyanite pieces from the floor, make the trip home, and boom!

no, you should just have the blueprint, its just overridden by the fake 0/20 in the ui

It did this to me. You need to scan one or two more fragments. Try the grand reef wrecks or floating island wreck. Aurora might have one you missed.

On every other platform it's 4 fragments so maybe the Devs accidentally put a different version of the game onto mobile but that's just a guess.

[No Spoilers] How far into the game is the prawn suit typically obtained?

Posted by FuelGood4018 · in r/subnautica · 1 month ago

I am far past exploring the aurora, I have a cyclops and a decent base, explored (hopefully all of) the lost rive, etc. Throughout my play through I have not come across any of the 20 parts that I apparently need to create the prawn suit. Is this normal or do I need to do some back-tracking? I’ve found several of the different arm attachments as well but am clueless on how to obtain the actual suit and would like to avoid having to google it.

About midway. If you've explored the Aurora, you walked right past the prawn fragments you needed to scan. In the prawn bay.

You only go past the prawn bay if you're getting "that one specific thing," not to repair the drive core, which i assume is what OP would have been doing at this stage. Correct me if I'm wrong.

There's like one or two outside the Aurora and it's kind of glitched that if you scan it before you get the ones in the Aurora it acts like you have to scan a TON of them.

That's because you're scanning big fragments. You can find arms in some wrecks, they give you fewer scan "points".

the 20 small parts a re a bit of a red herring, but that shouldn't lead you to ignore the big parts and if you scan those, you immediately notice that they are worth more.

Its really youre own pace although most people get one after going to the aurora, but i got the third seamoth upgrade before getting one

3 upvotes on reddit
MealPatient3620 · 1 month ago

I also had to go to Aurora a second time, but not for the prawn suit, but because I forgot to repair the reactor leaks. Then I accidentally found 4 suits and I got it. It's easy to find. There is a little fire, but not a big problem. I don't know why there stays 0/20.

Also, I love how you play without Google. The game is supposed to be ultra difficult, not everyone to go with coordinates and to have the Seamoth, the Cyclops and the Prawn after only a couple days of playing.

You can find prawn suit arms in other areas as well. Just keep searching other wrecks. The wreck SW in the Grand Reed (or Sparse Reef, I cant remember which is which) has prawn suit arms for days.

2 upvotes on reddit
Uuan1000 · 1 month ago

The sparse reef is kind of green, and has barely any animals or plant life, only in trenches. It is where lifepod 19 is. The keen lifepod.

The grand reef is very blue, it is right below the floating island, and there is an entrance in that area to the deep grand reef where degasi base 3 is. The grand reef is the area with two ghost leviathans, where the sea treader's tread, and where the floating blue ball things exist.

Both are like right next to each other however, so it doesn't really matter.

This has been a helpful Subnautica Veteran, here since the pre-alpha of Subnautica 1. I'm here to inform!

how to find prawn suit fragments in subnautica

Key Considerations for Finding Prawn Suit Fragments in Subnautica:

  1. Locations: Prawn Suit fragments are primarily found in specific biomes:

    • The Lost River: Look for fragments near the entrance and along the river.
    • The Grand Reef: Search around the edges and in the deeper areas.
    • The Mountains: Fragments can be found in the deeper sections of this biome.
    • The Sea Treader's Path: Explore the area for fragments scattered around.
  2. Depth: Prawn Suit fragments are typically located at depths ranging from 200 to 800 meters. Ensure you have the appropriate equipment (like a Seamoth or Cyclops) to reach these depths safely.

  3. Scanner Room: If you have a Scanner Room, you can use it to locate fragments more efficiently. Set the scanner to search for "Prawn Suit Fragment" to highlight nearby locations.

  4. Be Cautious of Predators: Some areas where fragments are found may have aggressive creatures (like Reapers or Warpers). Be prepared to navigate carefully or avoid these areas.

  5. Use the Scanner Tool: Once you find a fragment, use your scanner to scan it. You need to scan three fragments to unlock the Prawn Suit blueprint.

Recommendation: Start your search in the Grand Reef and Lost River, as these areas tend to have a higher concentration of fragments. Equip yourself with a Seamoth for mobility and safety, and consider bringing a repair tool in case you encounter any damage. Happy exploring!
