How to Upgrade the Prawn Suit in Subnautica

TL;DR To upgrade your Prawn Suit, build a Vehicle Upgrade Console (VUC) in your Moonpool using the Habitat Builder. This console allows you to craft and apply upgrades like the drill arm and jump jet upgrade.

Building the Vehicle Upgrade Console

The first step to upgrading your Prawn Suit is to construct a Vehicle Upgrade Console within your Moonpool. This can be done using the Habitat Builder [2:4]. The VUC functions similarly to a fabricator and is where you can create various vehicle upgrades once you have the necessary blueprints [2:1].

Finding Blueprints

Before crafting specific upgrades, ensure that you have collected the necessary blueprints. For example, the Prawn Suit arms require their own blueprints, which you must find before construction [2:1]. The Vehicle Upgrade Console blueprint itself can often be found in databoxes located in several wrecks, such as those near Lifepod 19 or in the Sparse Reef [5:1].

Crafting Upgrades

Once the Vehicle Upgrade Console is set up, you can craft different Prawn Suit upgrades. Common upgrades include the drill arm, torpedo arm, and jump jet upgrade. The recipes for these should be available by default in the VUC once you have the console installed [5:2].

Tips for Using the Prawn Suit

When equipping your Prawn Suit with new arms, consider leaving one arm free to pick up smaller items like diamonds or lithium [3:3]. Additionally, be mindful of the power usage of your Prawn Suit, especially when exploring deep caves, as running out of power can leave you vulnerable [3:6].

By following these steps, you can effectively upgrade your Prawn Suit in Subnautica, enhancing its capabilities for deeper exploration and resource gathering.

Where do I upgrade it. I want to make the drill arm thing but I can’t find where to make it. I unlocked the fragments and have the materials needed but where do I build the laser arm and apply it.

You need to find the blueprints for the upgrade station and then build it. It works similar to a fabricator and it has the vehicle upgrades you want.

You also need blueprints for the prawn suit arms themselves.

very cool but make sure to leave one arm normal so you are still able to pick up smaller items (like diamonds, lithium, etc.)

Nothing like the first time you roll up to an aggressive life form in a prawn. Not so awesome when it runs out of batteries deep in caves surrounded by said aggressive life forms.

Don‘t tell me you can‘t craft the mk1 upgrade for prawn suit at the modification system…

So I took the advice to heart and drove my seamoth all the way from my cyclops in lost river to my base to swap it for the prawn suit with no upgrades except drill arm. Now I have the prawn suit in my cyclops but I realize I can‘t craft the mk1 upgrade.

My vehicle console is 1200 meters above my current location don‘t tell me I need that to craft the Prawn mk1 upgrade…

I always left mine at the entrance and just brute forced my way through with prawn 😂

Pretty easy to navigate once you learn the right paths. I would always take my cyclops to the lava zone and then get infinite power with the thermal generator

1 upvotes on reddit

The mountain entrance is plenty big enough for the cyclops, and leads directly to the drop down into the lava zone.

All you have to do is sneak the cyclops past Jerry, which isn’t that hard, just a little nerve-wracking

Question, I’ve accidentally opened devconsole quite a few times—literally because it’s the stupidest easiest combo to end up pressing the buttons for, on controller it’s both bumpers and the use button. I say this because both bumpers are used to control up/down, and if I want to pick something up while also trying to stay in one spot by controlling up/down—on several occasions I’ve hit all 3 accidentally and made the devconsole pop up.

HOWEVER, I’ve never put a command into it and always just closed the console screen immediately and kept playing. My question to you is, since this is the case, and I’ve saved my game since, are achievements turned off for that world?

This ^^

You don't have to find a fragment or databox or whatever. It should automatically be available as soon as you build a VUC in your moonpool.

If you don't yet have those:

  • Moonpool fragments are pretty common, especially on the seabed in the E mushroom forest, or around the wrecks near Officer Keen's lifepod (19).
  • VUC blueprint is in a databox in several wrecks. The easiest ones are either the one in sparse reef near Lifepod 19, or the closest grassy plateau wreck to the E (go just east of the shallows and follow the border of the grassy plateau to the left until you find a lg wreck). For the grassy plateau one, you can get into that part of the wreck through a collision gap in the outside if you get there before the aurora explosion; otherwise, you need a laser cutter to get to it.

ever since i saw marg's prawn in BZ, i thought it would be cool that you yourself could do what marg did, kill a chelicerate and harvest its mandible from its corpse by knife or drill arm or something like that, and maybe for a future update for subnautica 1, you can use a reaper's pincer once killed, same harvesting method, i know this has probably been posted alot, but i dont scroll this sub much, and wanted yall's thoughts on it.

I mean Id like more customization for vehicles but I dont think this is the way to go. It also doesnt really fit the devs vision to encourage you to kill leviathans (hence why few real offensive weapons exist). Margeruit gets to do it because shes badass.

You need fragments of prawn suit to scan to get the blueprint

6 upvotes on reddit
S
shiftplusone · 6 years ago

There was a message at the beginning of your game that’s stored in your PDA that will explain fragments and why you need them. Should be under the log messages tab or the data bank tab. (Could be both.)

Data bank entry.

>Warning: blueprint database corrupted

>Damage to your PDA's hard drive has corrupted approximately 80% of stored survival blueprints. Blueprints may be reacquired by scanning a salvaged technology using the handheld scanner, or by downloading plans from a ship-board databox. In the circumstances these assets will most likely be found amongst wreckage from the Aurora.

It was one of the first messages you received at the very beginning of the game. It’s easy to miss the first time around in all of the chaos.

catwhowalksbyhimself · 6 years ago

LIke everything else in the game, you have to scan the fragments. You will be able to get them all in one place. No hurry. It's more of an endgame vehicle. The Seamoth will be enough for a while.

If its around 50 I will get out, but even at 50 the prawn suit will only take 20 or so damage from a Reaper, so I feel fine cruising around at 85. Plus (aside from getting stuck in a wreck) I'm not too shabby at breaking ankle-fins of topside leviathans.

[No Spoilers] How far into the game is the prawn suit typically obtained?

Posted by FuelGood4018 · in r/subnautica · 1 month ago

I am far past exploring the aurora, I have a cyclops and a decent base, explored (hopefully all of) the lost rive, etc. Throughout my play through I have not come across any of the 20 parts that I apparently need to create the prawn suit. Is this normal or do I need to do some back-tracking? I’ve found several of the different arm attachments as well but am clueless on how to obtain the actual suit and would like to avoid having to google it.

It's best to clear the fire on the water filled prawn room. There is at least one mod in the prawn consoles.

That's because you're scanning big fragments. You can find arms in some wrecks, they give you fewer scan "points".

the 20 small parts a re a bit of a red herring, but that shouldn't lead you to ignore the big parts and if you scan those, you immediately notice that they are worth more.

There's like one or two outside the Aurora and it's kind of glitched that if you scan it before you get the ones in the Aurora it acts like you have to scan a TON of them.

About midway. If you've explored the Aurora, you walked right past the prawn fragments you needed to scan. In the prawn bay.

You only go past the prawn bay if you're getting "that one specific thing," not to repair the drive core, which i assume is what OP would have been doing at this stage. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I also had to go to Aurora a second time, but not for the prawn suit, but because I forgot to repair the reactor leaks. Then I accidentally found 4 suits and I got it. It's easy to find. There is a little fire, but not a big problem. I don't know why there stays 0/20.

Also, I love how you play without Google. The game is supposed to be ultra difficult, not everyone to go with coordinates and to have the Seamoth, the Cyclops and the Prawn after only a couple days of playing.

🤖

how to upgrade the prawn suit in subnautica

Upgrading the Prawn Suit in Subnautica: Key Considerations

  1. Upgrade Modules: The Prawn Suit can be upgraded with various modules that enhance its capabilities. Key upgrades include:

    • Propulsion Cannon: Allows you to grab and throw objects.
    • Torpedo Arm: Fires torpedoes for defense.
    • Drill Arm: Used for mining resources from large deposits.
    • Jump Jet Upgrade: Increases mobility with jump jets.
  2. Materials Required: Each upgrade requires specific materials. Common materials include:

    • Titanium
    • Lithium
    • Diamond
    • Aerogel
    • Nickel Ore
    • Plasteel Ingots
  3. Fabrication: Upgrades are crafted at the Prawn Suit Upgrade Console. You need to build this console first, which requires:

    • 1x Computer Chip
    • 1x Titanium Ingot
    • 1x Lithium
  4. Finding Blueprints: Blueprints for upgrades can be found in various locations, including wrecks and research facilities. Make sure to explore thoroughly to gather all necessary blueprints.

  5. Storage: Ensure you have enough storage space in your Prawn Suit to carry materials for upgrades while exploring.

Recommendation: Prioritize upgrading the Drill Arm and Jump Jet Upgrade first, as they significantly enhance your resource gathering and mobility, making exploration much easier. Always keep an eye out for materials while exploring to streamline the upgrade process.
