How to Find Quartz in Subnautica

TL;DR

  • Safe Shallows and Grassy Plateaus are good starting points.
  • Use a scanner room for efficient searching.
  • Explore deeper areas like the Blood Kelp Zone and Grand Reef.

Initial Areas: Safe Shallows and Grassy Plateaus

Quartz can initially be found in abundance in the Safe Shallows, where players start their journey [2:1]. If you've exhausted resources here, the Grassy Plateaus is another area where quartz is commonly found. However, some players reported difficulty finding quartz even with scanner rooms [2:2]. It's suggested to rebuild the scanner room with range upgrades to maximize your search efficiency [2:3].

Scanner Room Strategy

Building a scanner room can significantly aid in locating quartz, especially if placed strategically in areas like the Grassy Plateaus or near coral tunnels [1:4][2:3]. Upgrading the scanner room's range and dropping pieces of different resources under your base can help enhance its effectiveness [2:4].

Deeper Zones: Blood Kelp and Grand Reef

For more abundant quartz deposits, consider venturing into deeper zones such as the Blood Kelp Zone and Grand Reef [1:1][1:6]. These areas contain significant quantities of quartz, though they may require depth upgrades for your Seamoth or other equipment to access safely. The Blood Kelp Trench, located near life pod 13, is noted for its quartz availability [1:6].

Alternative Locations

Other recommended locations include the Bulb Zone caves and Crag Zone, which have loose quartz deposits [2:5][2:8]. Additionally, vertical caves by the edge of the plateau northwest of the original life pod contain quartz at the bottom [2:4].

By utilizing these strategies and exploring various biomes, you should be able to find sufficient quartz for your crafting needs in Subnautica.

ORIGINAL POST

I have a main base set up in the Safe Shallows, and I’ve completely stripped the area of resources. To use glass I usually go around to the grassy plateaus, but I’m starting to run out of quartz there. Any tips on where I can find it?

Quartz is a lot more common than it used to be, search the area around the aurora, it’s littered with scrap and quartz.

Easiest place is that large coral tunnel if you can find it. Not only does tons usually spawn in their it has a couple holes that lead to tunnels with even more and the boom fish and sandstone and what not.

Already stripped that tunnel. Does the quartz respawn?

2 upvotes on reddit
rizzo891 · 6 years ago

It does not as far as I know (their used to be a kind of cheat way to respawn resources in the world but idk if it's been fixed or not) have you tried building a scanner room to look for quartz? It aids resource finding a ton, especially if you get the upgrade where you can see the tracking things on your hud.

If you've got a Seamoth, you could consider going south to the Grand Reef. There's quite a bit of quartz there, though if you don't have the necessary depth upgrades then you'll probably need to park your Seamoth above its crush depth and seaglide down to the resources.

The Blood Kelp Trench also has tons of quartz available, but it's slightly harder to find than the Grand Reef.

Anyone know how the best way to get Quartz is? I'm on PS5 and have been having trouble finding Quartz. There's barely any anywhere I look. If you also know where to find the Prawn Suit Drill arm that would be great.

I've been to the Grassy Platue many times and have only found 2 or 3 quartz in those places, I've even placed scanner rooms and they barely find any.

I gaurentee you there's TONS of quartz in these grassy platues that your missing, rebuild your scanner room there and add range upgrade to it and go look all over the entire biome you'll end up with tons. They might not be loading in yet, happens often to me take your time when exploring, also mabye the western grassy platues might yield more Evidence: bases in both grassy platues before that filled multiple lockers worth of the stuff!

There’s some vertical caves by the edge of the plateau with a lot of crystal at the bottom. Kind of northwest of your original life pod.

A good tip for the scanner room is to drop pieces of different resources under your base so it pops up on the scanner menu.

I need ten pieces of quarts, so I wanted to know if anyone had any good places to get it. I don't care if it's a lot of single pieces or the chunks you need the Prawn Suit for, if it's a place packed with quarts, isn't the Dunes, and you have directions, I'll take it.

Edit: Got all the quartz I needed.

I remember the bloodkelp trench having lots of quartz if you don’t mind the creepiness. It’s between the dunes and sparse reef.

The other bloodkelp zone north of the floating islands has a bunch as well, but the crabsquids are super annoying.

thats a really big cave, I usually use the entrance near the coal nodes at the north east edge of the rocky desert. there are 4 coal nodes, a canyon opens west between the northern 2 and southern 2. Follow the canyon to the cave entrance.

15 upvotes on reddit
CycleZestyclose1907 · 16 days ago

The cave actually has THREE entrances. One on the east coast of the river that you described, one on the west coast of the desert with more coal nodes, and a tiny, easy to miss one at sea level along the northern cliff face by the sea roughly half way between the two big entrances.

1 upvotes on reddit
C
CheeseburgerJesus71 · 16 days ago

I like the northern forest starting point though, so I always use that one since its easy to jump down there early game even before you unlock coal power, grab quartz, mycelia and sam unlocks from the MAM in the cave, if you found any sulfur along the way you may be able to unlock explosives at this point and grab the locked caterium node somewhat near above the cave entrance as well, much easier if you got enough mycelia unlocks in the cave to have a gas mask. (chainsaw recommended)

Four: the West entrance by the coal nodes, 2 small north entrances going to the northern sea, and the east entrance by the coal and iron by the inlet.

the west enteance you dont even need to blow up to get in. you can climb up the rocks and crouch to squeeze in, but you need to blow it up if you want any of it transported

When you can't find a node, even though the map shows it's right where you are, it's either below you or above you.

The map is 2d. The world is 3d.

You can find a lot of quartz in the big coral tube at the safe shallows. Quartz also pop up frequently anywhere in smaller quantities.

Seamoth parts can also be found in the Grassy Plateau, the biome with the red grass. Look for wreckage.

Ores spawn based on tfc rock types and aren’t latitude dependent. Certus can spawn in Shale, Quartzite, Schist, and Gneiss. Though if you’re in HV then you should be able to just fly around with a jet pack/hang glider combo and use an ore prospector to scout around for certus

Yeah but idk why it’s so rare. I’ve looked for like a couple of hours and many mines. You can also get it by making silicon dioxide through glass dust, and then use an autoclave with distilled water to get it. I found it to be much easier

also are in in any place that have ingenous intrusive rock or slate as surface? if true, there is chance that schist and gneiss spawn under there (hope not phyllite, that trolled me).

how to find quartz in subnautica

Finding Quartz in Subnautica: Key Considerations

  1. Locations:

    • Quartz can be found in various biomes, particularly in the Shallows, Kelp Forest, and Grassy Plateaus.
    • Look for it on the ocean floor, often among other resources like limestone and sandstone.
  2. Visual Identification:

    • Quartz appears as shiny, translucent crystals. They are usually white or light-colored and can be easily spotted against the darker seabed.
  3. Tools:

    • Use your Scanner to identify quartz deposits if you have it unlocked. This can help you locate them more efficiently.
    • A Survival Knife can be handy for breaking down larger deposits if you encounter them.
  4. Inventory Management:

    • Keep an eye on your inventory space, as quartz can take up valuable slots. Collect it in batches to maximize your inventory efficiency.
  5. Daytime vs. Nighttime:

    • It's easier to spot quartz during the day due to better visibility. Try to explore during daylight hours for optimal resource gathering.

Recommendation:

  • Focus on exploring the Kelp Forest and Grassy Plateaus early in the game, as these areas are rich in quartz and other essential resources. Additionally, consider crafting a Seaglide to increase your mobility and make resource gathering more efficient.
