TL;DR
Initial Areas: Safe Shallows and Grassy Plateaus
Quartz can initially be found in abundance in the Safe Shallows, where players start their journey [2:1]. If you've exhausted resources here, the Grassy Plateaus is another area where quartz is commonly found. However, some players reported difficulty finding quartz even with scanner rooms
[2:2]. It's suggested to rebuild the scanner room with range upgrades to maximize your search efficiency
[2:3].
Scanner Room Strategy
Building a scanner room can significantly aid in locating quartz, especially if placed strategically in areas like the Grassy Plateaus or near coral tunnels [1:4]
[2:3]. Upgrading the scanner room's range and dropping pieces of different resources under your base can help enhance its effectiveness
[2:4].
Deeper Zones: Blood Kelp and Grand Reef
For more abundant quartz deposits, consider venturing into deeper zones such as the Blood Kelp Zone and Grand Reef [1:1]
[1:6]. These areas contain significant quantities of quartz, though they may require depth upgrades for your Seamoth or other equipment to access safely. The Blood Kelp Trench, located near life pod 13, is noted for its quartz availability
[1:6].
Alternative Locations
Other recommended locations include the Bulb Zone caves and Crag Zone, which have loose quartz deposits [2:5]
[2:8]. Additionally, vertical caves by the edge of the plateau northwest of the original life pod contain quartz at the bottom
[2:4].
By utilizing these strategies and exploring various biomes, you should be able to find sufficient quartz for your crafting needs in Subnautica.
I have a main base set up in the Safe Shallows, and I’ve completely stripped the area of resources. To use glass I usually go around to the grassy plateaus, but I’m starting to run out of quartz there. Any tips on where I can find it?
Quartz is a lot more common than it used to be, search the area around the aurora, it’s littered with scrap and quartz.
Thanks! I will try this soon!
Easiest place is that large coral tunnel if you can find it. Not only does tons usually spawn in their it has a couple holes that lead to tunnels with even more and the boom fish and sandstone and what not.
Already stripped that tunnel. Does the quartz respawn?
It does not as far as I know (their used to be a kind of cheat way to respawn resources in the world but idk if it's been fixed or not) have you tried building a scanner room to look for quartz? It aids resource finding a ton, especially if you get the upgrade where you can see the tracking things on your hud.
If you've got a Seamoth, you could consider going south to the Grand Reef. There's quite a bit of quartz there, though if you don't have the necessary depth upgrades then you'll probably need to park your Seamoth above its crush depth and seaglide down to the resources.
The Blood Kelp Trench also has tons of quartz available, but it's slightly harder to find than the Grand Reef.
There's a blood kelp area near life pod 13 if I remember correctly
They're all over the red grass areas
build a scanner room in a grassy plateaus area with max range.
Anyone know how the best way to get Quartz is? I'm on PS5 and have been having trouble finding Quartz. There's barely any anywhere I look. If you also know where to find the Prawn Suit Drill arm that would be great.
Just go to the creep vine forest thats near the life pod and go to the end of it ull see an area with red grass its stacked with it
I've been to the Grassy Platue many times and have only found 2 or 3 quartz in those places, I've even placed scanner rooms and they barely find any.
I gaurentee you there's TONS of quartz in these grassy platues that your missing, rebuild your scanner room there and add range upgrade to it and go look all over the entire biome you'll end up with tons. They might not be loading in yet, happens often to me take your time when exploring, also mabye the western grassy platues might yield more Evidence: bases in both grassy platues before that filled multiple lockers worth of the stuff!
I mean the place near life pod idk wat number but has the auroras chef
There’s some vertical caves by the edge of the plateau with a lot of crystal at the bottom. Kind of northwest of your original life pod.
A good tip for the scanner room is to drop pieces of different resources under your base so it pops up on the scanner menu.
Quartz? Bulb zone caves blood kelp zone
Which Blood Kelp, the trench or the northern one?
Crag zone has loose and deposits of Quartz.
You can easily find quartz in the area where you start the game. As for the drill arm, look in derelict ship part.
I need ten pieces of quarts, so I wanted to know if anyone had any good places to get it. I don't care if it's a lot of single pieces or the chunks you need the Prawn Suit for, if it's a place packed with quarts, isn't the Dunes, and you have directions, I'll take it.
Edit: Got all the quartz I needed.
There is a large coral tube in the shallows that is usually full of quartz
I remember the bloodkelp trench having lots of quartz if you don’t mind the creepiness. It’s between the dunes and sparse reef.
The other bloodkelp zone north of the floating islands has a bunch as well, but the crabsquids are super annoying.
Single pieces or chunks?
At the time I asked in case I have to take off one of my Prawn arms to grab the quartz, but I forgot I just get out of the suit most of the time anyway, ignore this question because I forgot my brain somewhere.
Is this a joke or when you go to it, its under the sea floor?
Context.
It's a joke -_-
I'm trying to find these quartz on the map for radio control unit production but can't seem to find them. I understand their underground somewhere but I can't find the cave entrance, does anyone know how to get to them?
thats a really big cave, I usually use the entrance near the coal nodes at the north east edge of the rocky desert. there are 4 coal nodes, a canyon opens west between the northern 2 and southern 2. Follow the canyon to the cave entrance.
The cave actually has THREE entrances. One on the east coast of the river that you described, one on the west coast of the desert with more coal nodes, and a tiny, easy to miss one at sea level along the northern cliff face by the sea roughly half way between the two big entrances.
I like the northern forest starting point though, so I always use that one since its easy to jump down there early game even before you unlock coal power, grab quartz, mycelia and sam unlocks from the MAM in the cave, if you found any sulfur along the way you may be able to unlock explosives at this point and grab the locked caterium node somewhat near above the cave entrance as well, much easier if you got enough mycelia unlocks in the cave to have a gas mask. (chainsaw recommended)
Four: the West entrance by the coal nodes, 2 small north entrances going to the northern sea, and the east entrance by the coal and iron by the inlet.
I see you're using the SCIM. It has an option to view caves so that you can see the entrances.
Try looking near the ocean.
Follow the shoreline. There are several entrances.
Found it, thanks!
Most of the entrances to that big cave are blocked by breakable rocks, so bring Nobelisks. And be ready for lots of spiders.
I certainly hope you like spiders, because you're about to make a LOT of new friends...
I was the exact opposite somehow. All quartz and no salt
Edges of grassy plains, and throughout kelp forest areas. I think it’s also pretty popular in mushroom forest but I never go there often except for the aurora wreck there.
Ok im terrified of this game, (I shake) does that wreck happen to be near the blood kelp trench?
I already have about 4 full lockers in my base of that crap
Salt is super useful. Turn it into water or use to preserve fish for a long lasting food supply.
When you build a water purifier system it gives you two water bottles and two salt. Far more than you can even do much with.
Both are useless when you have an indoor grow bed with bulbous trees
i use it just for curing fish. and for making hydrochloric acid.
I mean, salting fish is all well and good, but why not just keep a tank full of live ones? Constantly breeding, ready for cooking, no salty aftertaste!
how do you turn salt into water?
Yea I had that problem too. But then I scanned a trashcan at a wreck. Just switch containers, and its gone. Otherwise, swim outside and drop it. Make a salt mountain or something.
Spicy Quartz
Thanks for the reply, everyone! I will try the beachside. I JUST WANT TO BUILD MY WINDOWS!!
I don’t know if I would recommend those nodes if you’re just looking for quartz for building. There are less deadly options
Also get the blade runners while you at it. Speeeeeeed!
r/found_pootis
Good job, team! This pioneer can now enjoy the pleasure of windows
There are more accessible quartz veins early game
gotta find the cave entrance on the beach
Three entrances
the west enteance you dont even need to blow up to get in. you can climb up the rocks and crouch to squeeze in, but you need to blow it up if you want any of it transported
When you can't find a node, even though the map shows it's right where you are, it's either below you or above you.
The map is 2d. The world is 3d.
Is underground, entrance is by the sea. Use the SCIM if needed
Widen your search. There's a number of entrances from different directions. Be ready for a lot of stingers.
I can’t seem to find any seamoth parts and only found 1 yet and I also rarely see any quartz, any help?
You can find a lot of quartz in the big coral tube at the safe shallows. Quartz also pop up frequently anywhere in smaller quantities.
Seamoth parts can also be found in the Grassy Plateau, the biome with the red grass. Look for wreckage.
Well theres a section on the aurora with seamoth fragments and as for quartz, look in deeper water
I went to the aurora and saw a big leviathan, it attacked me and then I dashed away and used my med kit, not going there again, but thanks for quartz tips
You have to go there at some point. It's also full of useful and unique stuff. You NEED to go there.
Eventually.
Everywhere go look for godsake
If you can find one to scan, you need a scanner room and then a HUD chip which you build in that room. Makes finding quartz and anything else really easy.
Hi,
ive recently broken into the HV Age and desperately want to build an ME-System for storage but i cant find any certus quartz deposits.
My base is in the jungle near the equator, am I in the wrong part of the world to find them?
Ores spawn based on tfc rock types and aren’t latitude dependent. Certus can spawn in Shale, Quartzite, Schist, and Gneiss. Though if you’re in HV then you should be able to just fly around with a jet pack/hang glider combo and use an ore prospector to scout around for certus
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1P3Baz4y5vgJ3XrCoNs4l3BXGPiFEPlW7i4taPEWpTB4/htmlview
This spreadsheet is outdated, all the ore information is in the field guide now.
I found some in limestone, along with salt
its in the field guide
Shale shale shale shale shale shale shale
dont know how to find deposites but, you can do what i did and centrifuge superlarge amounts of quartz sand(or whatever its called) the thing you get from macerating sand and having a 20%chance of certus quartz dust
I’ve been looking to get quartzite for the ore detector thingy but I’ve spent more time than I wished I had. What is the best way to approach finding it?
if you play the latest version of TFG, you will see there will be lots of white spots on your map. Usually it will be Quartzite on the surface.
Yeah but idk why it’s so rare. I’ve looked for like a couple of hours and many mines. You can also get it by making silicon dioxide through glass dust, and then use an autoclave with distilled water to get it. I found it to be much easier
pstt do you know any place with chertz?
also are in in any place that have ingenous intrusive rock or slate as surface? if true, there is chance that schist and gneiss spawn under there (hope not phyllite, that trolled me).
edit: nvm i thought you're talking abt quartz. but still useful!
SHALE SAHLE SHALE SHALE SHALE SHALE SAHLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I’ll try looking in shale. The closest shale I know I have is like 20k blocks away 🥲
you can also Find real life in shale alot of Coal and Pyrite Cubes in it
You can have a chance to get it though glass processing in a machine
I want to give you a big smooch
check the field guide for the required stone type and look around for that stone type and then search for the ore indicators for quartzite.
