TL;DR
Combat Simulator and Mini-Games
One of the most effective ways to level up quickly is by using the Combat Simulator, specifically the "Brutal Challenge: Army of the Damned" [3]. This allows players to gain multiple levels per run. Additionally, the Nibleheim cat mini-game offers a unique opportunity where enemies constantly respawn if you don't kill the boss, allowing for rapid leveling
[3:2].
Post-Game Grinding
After completing Chapter 14, all experience (EXP) and ability points (AP) awarded receive a 3x multiplier, making it almost impossible not to hit level 70 within an hour or two [3:1]. This post-game boost significantly reduces the need for extensive grinding during the main story.
Mastering Combat Mechanics
While grinding can help with leveling, mastering the game's combat mechanics is crucial for success, especially on harder difficulties. Players are encouraged to learn enemy weaknesses, use Cloud's Punisher mode effectively, and focus on blocking to build ATB gauges [5:5]
[5:6]. Blocking may seem counterintuitive as it still results in taking damage, but it's designed to be part of the strategy in FFVII Rebirth.
Materia and Weapon Levels
Maximizing your materia and reaching weapon level 9 can make a significant difference in battles [2]. Materia like Steadfast Block and ATB Stagger are particularly useful for building ATB gauges and enhancing combat effectiveness
[5:7].
Game Mode Adjustments
Switching to easy mode can provide relief for those struggling with combat while still allowing them to enjoy the storyline and practice mechanics [1:6]. For those who prefer a challenge, mastering the mechanics will be essential to overcoming bosses that require strategic planning rather than sheer power
[1:1].
I genuinely enjoy a relaxing grind to make my characters feel ahead of the curve. Many JRPGs lend themself well to this. Is this feasible in Rebirth or am I mostly going to expect to be at the level that the game wants me to be at?
You can grind but you will not get overpowered. Bosses or sub bosses will still be difficult if you do not master the combat mechanics and prepping your build. Unfortunately, remake/rebirth is action rpg and grinding does not put you in an advantageous position
Won't work once you get to hard. Unlike OG, you can't just level to 99 and murder everything. But on easy and normal, you can level up your materia in the sim and pretty much breeze through
On normal/dynamic yes grinding level and materia is worth it and you'll feel overpowered at times.
On hard it's not only expected that you've grinded but as well mastered the mechanics.
Not sure I agree. EXP and AP is so high in hard that it’s not really a grind. Regardless of level entering hard, you’ll be max level in probably 30 mins maximum
To me the main purpose was to ask can you feel overpowered by grinding? Which I think is plausible in normal/dynamic. Like you said in Hard you will naturally hit max level and materia is not too terrible to grind in NG+. But regardless of level and materia hard mode will be difficult because it's more about the mechanics.
Beyond the grinding, you can switch to easy mode.
I played a lot of JRPGs, whether it's turned based or action, and I understand completely the satisfaction of being OP in battle as a result for grinding. That is actually my preferred way to clear bosses in OG FF7.
Won't get to do that in Remake and Rebirth because bosses have different phases (normally 3). Also, there are various offensive and defensive mechanics (like shields, charged attacks, DPS checks). Sometimes, even gimmicks (need specific attacks to get through). Some boses require you to have a long-term strategy, saving your limit breaks and synergy abilities for a certain oppotune moments.
My point is that grinding to be OP won't work on bosses. You gotta invest vertically and horizontally on your characters, know exactly the strategy prior to battle, and excute them flawlessly to make bosses feel like a breeze.
Grinding for normal enemies and the VR battles will work, tho. Just equip first strike, atb boost, magic plus, magnify + any 3* magic (firaga, thundaga, blizzaga). Do it immediately at the start of battle. Almost everything will die instantly.
But honestly, I think the genius of the FF7R battle system is that it incentives you to do more instead of less in battle. The special abilities outside basic attacks are super cool, and you have to build the right meters to get to them. I played Chapter 1 normal difficulty but found that enemies die almost instantly once I get the hang on the combat. My characters don't get to do anything cool. 😒 So I put the game on Dynamic and never looked back. I'll probably also do a Hard-mode playthrough later (I did it for FFR1).
I very much enjoyed by time with Rebirth. I am happy to hear that part 3 will not be as difficult.
The hardest challenge was Rulers of the Outer Worlds, thanks to Shadowy Chains.
The hardest mini game was the 3D Brawler (Sepihorith).
Seriously, before you try Bonds of Friendship, get to weapon level 9 and finish the game on Hard. It took me three tries, and was never incredibly difficult. That extra 30 magic attack makes all the difference.
Neat, and congratulations on the plat! 😁 So close to 100 plats.
I wanted this one to be #97 for a reason. I never played the original!
This game has 61 trophies: 54 bronze, 5 silver, 1 gold, and a platinum.
They are very hard (8/10) and take 150 - 200 hours to complete.
Price: $69.99
Other region prices, wishlist, or buy | Trophy guides: PSNP, PS3T, Pyx
I am a bot. More info about me
I hope this helps someone. I searched everywhere trying to find a way to level up before finishing the game. This was by far the best option for me personally.
Each run is 10 rounds and the monsters are pretty easy. I was able to gain 2-3 levels or more each run.
Combat Simulator Brutal Challenge: Army of the Damned
Nibleheim cat mini game - enemies constantly respawn if you don't kill the boss. You can fully level up in an hour.
This. Magnify Fira on Aerith, avoid the Queen Bee, went from 46 to 70 in something like 6 minutes.
I tired that also but kept killing the queen bee.
Same
Any other spots I got like a save file chap 12 so any help is good with me
Yeah this is the method I used and I went from 50 to 70 very quickly.
nope
Edit: combat sim with that bee. Then you can just reset the combat sim once it’s dead. I forgot the name of it.
depends, really, if you want EXP and AP spread across all your characters, the field one is better (honestly, i got all to lvl 70 in one go)
Also, the field one already starts with some bees to kill, while in the SIM you have to wait it to summon them.
starting chapter 13 to do the cat quest is actually pretty fast.
Any particular reason why you want to do this before endgame?
I suck at the game and just need to max level before ending it, even playing on easy is diffcult lol. Also, trying to compete all of Chadley’s challeneges.
To be honest, it's hard to grind for levels if you do it before finishing the game. That's why almost everyone's suggestion is for post game since you get triple exp and AP if I remember correctly. Also, all Chadley's challenges won't unlock until you finish the entire protorelic quest.
If you're having trouble, I suggest watching walkthroughs.
Edit: Wait, you unlocked Brutal challenges which means you're at least capable. Are you sire that's the reason?
There are 3 terpsacolts part of an enemy Intel challenge in Corel along the beach that worked best for me. Pretty easy to defeat and then hit "retry" to begin the battle again.
Just completing all of the content in the game, including side quests, world intel and vr challenges naturally levels you up to about level 50 which is more than enough to beat the game on normal difficulty.
Once you have beaten chapter 14, all exp and ap awarded will get a 3x multiplier on all difficulties and once that happens, it's almost impossible not to hit level 70 in an hour or two without having to go out of your way to grind.
Make sure you have at least 4-5 of each elemental materia and max out all your materias.
As for the minigames, there are plenty of guides online of how to cheese the auto battlers, or how to perform well on Cactuar Crush. Never found the situps/gym stuff to be difficult, I'm a rhythm gamer so it kinda is like that.
Any other tips leave a comment and I'll answer as best as I can!
"Didnt find the situps hard " the one thing i was gonna ask about i completly dropped the game cause i want to get that done and out so no tips huh 🫠
I found it easier to just remember the pattern and I closed my eyes. It slowly speeds up to tolerate faster inputs so just start slow and gradually build it up....count it like you would count out a song like 1, 2, 3, 4. Just practice the pattern before you even start the game. Get your finger used to the motion and pattern they have to do. You got it brother!!!!
Tip I have to give is turn off the in game music. Makes it so much easier to count/keep Rhythm. Took me only a couple of tries after doing this 👍
For real! If it wasn’t for his guides, getting the plat would’ve torn my sanity to shreds!
I just have the battle sim left. Other than following the Optinoob stuff, any recommendations?
If all you have is the battle sim stuff then not really as I followed his guides. One thing you'll find is you.canr replicate his strats but sometimes things happen so don't follow them so rigidly and if things go off program, to remember the strat and just keep going. For the battle sims, if you follow his guides, for the Zack/Cloud fight, on round 9 and 10, don't get caught out so much by attacking. The main damage comes from the magic so trying to always hit them can and will get you killed. Focus more on blocking in Prime Mode as it gives you a ton of atb, and only get Berserk status when you're ready to throw some lvl3 magic. If this doesn't make sense it will if you watch his videos.
You got it, just take your time and remember there's no timer for the fights, take it slow and keep your fundamentals in order, its actually not so bad.
Yeah I've had a little look so I'm getting what you're saying.
Keep it flexible, stay patient, win. I shall do my best! Thanks for the heads up
Couldn't agree more with your title. Got the Platinum last year, and the combat simulator at the end is just BS. Congratulations on the Platinum :)
Congratulations on the plat! 😁
Hi
I finanlly fulfilling my dream of playing FF remake since last month.
I'm about...1/3rd and what I quickly noticed is that I cannot really "grind" to
practice my combats and level up. (But primarily to practice controls/combo/skill etc...I haven't played game like this type of combat ever) I know there's way to grind but I always in needed to take action to reset the spawn of the enemies
I'm really struggling to continue the game...Whenever I enter battle, it's more like hoping the battle just ends soon...And because my level is almost equivalent to enemies, each battle seems to be fairly long.
Not to mention I only have very limited materias and skills, already using many potion items on every battle.
I do have RE-Birth...At this point I'm deciding whether I should just go with Re-birth...?
I know Re-birth is open world and stuff...
You will be missing out on a lot of story if you skip remake. Even if you played the og. It’s going to leave you confused and make rebirth not as fun. You need to use assess. And learn the enemies weaknesses and exploit them. Also use clouds punisher mode and block. This does a counter attack. I struggled my first playthrough so I switched it to easy. By the end of the game I had really figured it out and was able to play intermission and rebirth on normal. Watch some YouTube videos about combat tips and tricks. Don’t skip the game though.
100% hard agree. I played the demo for Rebirth first and was so confused with gameplay-- and realized that they don't really ease you into the controls as well as in Remake.
Also, there's a lot of flashbacks that don't make complete sense (or hit as hard) unless you play Remake > Intermission > Rebirth.
Just use Chadley's Combat Simulator. Work your way through those battles. Even if you die, you keep any experience you got. It's a great way to grind up stubborn materia.
No point. Once you finish the game you get triple xp on new game plus / chapter select
I’ll give you one tip that really opened my eyes in this game. Most other action games I focus on dodging attacks. In this game blocking is actually much more important.
Blocking builds your ATB gauge. It can feel bad because you’re usually still taking damage, but the game is designed so that taking some damage from blocked attacks is ok.
You need to know when to take your foot off the gas and hold back on your offense so you don’t eat giant attacks to the face.
IMO blocking is an advanced strategy. I best remake in hard mode and never did any blocking. The blocking materia though are excellent on your party members you’re not controlling so they can build up atb easier.
Blocking is very important in some key fights, mostly the solo duel battles. I best remake and I didn’t even know the punisher stance did a counter attack.
I think the OP is a bit further behind than that and just needs to learn the basic abilities of the game. Blocking isn’t super important and I think might end up being frustrating.
I like to pair Cloud with Steadfast Block bc of that ATB building. The ATB Stagger materia is also super useful for both him and Tifa imho.
Grinding doesn't do anything in the Re games. There are open sections in Remake where you can wander to practice against some enemies if you want, and there are simulator and arena battles that you can do repeatedly at certain points.
Rebirth is completely open outside of story dungeons, so you can go and fight things whenever you want 80% of the time.
It couldn’t be simpler, just grind Respawn Rumble and enjoy leveling up practically every match (depending on how well you do). I’ve never had an easier time leveling up in this game than with this mode. If they added more locations as maps for this mode, it would be even more perfect…but for now, I will obtain the Green/White Ranger by playing 50ish more rounds of Respawn Rumble lol
Can’t find respawn rumble on my list even when I check epic created maps it not there 😭😭😭
Really?! It should be one of the Epic Created, like you mentioned. Hmm
Yeah it’s not on their list when I check
every time I look at it, I'm reminded of how much worse it is than team rumble in terms of... everything. it's so gimped it's hard to look at, and in regards to quests it is no different.
It's also good for completing the expertise quests.
Very good tip! I’ll work on those with this as well
Just be ready to lose. If you can take an L, all game modes are open
Hey guys i got 100% in remake earlier this year and it was fun to do but i really wanna also get the 100% for rebirth was hoping anyone thay has gone for this would have some tips and tricks for achievements to hit early on etc. Thanks guys!
I'm working on the same game atm 😅
This is my first ever Final Fantasy game I’m playing, but not my first ever JRPG game I’m playing. I’ve devoted some hours and I’m about 30% in the game and honestly it was fun at first but now it’s gotten quite difficult to this point for me in the sense that I’ve been using many potions and health items, not to mention it’s where most of my in game money I get from battles are going. My first difficult area was where there were two fire flamethrower troops and two turrets when traveling though the subway halls, in which many players did find this part difficult so I didn’t give it much attention and eventually beat it with patience and much time. Not far from this point I’m now in the make reactor 5 section and I’m having difficulties trying to stay away from low health during battles. I’m playing in Normal (not classic), I’d consider myself pretty fast in blocking to minimize damage and switch between characters during heated situations but it’s crucial for me still and I don’t wanna lower the difficulty. When I search up a game through video and watch others play through these sections, they always have more health or deal more damage meaning some way I’m not aware of, they level up and gain strength somehow. Not to mention it’s less motivating to try and complete this game when it’s considered possibly the easiest game in the franchise and is only the first part, there’s no telling how difficult rebirth or the third future part of the game will be for me if I’m already struggling at 30% of the first game. I’d appreciate if I’m told any advice or recommendations from this point and on
Stagger is key.
Also
Grind any area you can quickly respawn enemies in. When you get to Wall Market grind the arena and then just coast through the rest of the game.
You can set the difficulty to easy before entering and spam Aerith’s basic magic attack combo. Everything dies with little interaction. Change back to normal afterwards.
This is what I did. I was having fun with the arena matches so I just grinded the hell out of it. It's been a while since I played it, but Hell House was an optional boss in the arena, right? That was the most difficult boss to me. Everything after that was cake.
Hell House is mandatory. It’s the first boss that you kind of have to have a setup ready for it else it’ll be a slog.
I’m glad I dropped this game if grind is the answer. So artificially lengthened
You don't need to grind to get through the game but if you're struggling it's definitely a solution.
I actually kind of disagree with this. In theory you’re correct, but the developers designed almost every boss to have their stagger meter fill just as they go into another phase. The fmv will cancel any attack you were in process and you lose the atb for it. It also sets their stagger meter back to empty.
It’s incredibly unsatisfying to follow the rules of the game and do all the pressure bs and focus on building up stagger meter to just have it auto cancel with some bs fmv and the boss gets to be back and empty and your empty atb and limits etc you wasted. It even stops the ebony from taking damage sometimes too and there’s a ‘no’ symbol on the hp bard of the boss. It’s really stupid and unsatisfying
Your first point is one of many reasons I dislike Remake/Rebirth combat compared to OGVII
Having predefined “phase cuts” in bosses is fine, the original did it too, but don’t cancel attacks, spells, limits etc.
Nothing worse than queuing a limit, only for one of your party members to normal attack the boss past the phase threshold so the limit goes off during the transition FMV, dealing 0 damage…
As someone just getting back into gaming, who heavily played all the previous games excluding XIII, I m def finding this game harder. I got into JRPG's and not action RPG's, and this learning skill for staggering and blocking has def been a lot harder than I expected.
And I've just been in the adjusting the difficulty settings myself.
Are you using your materia in a good way? Have you upgraded your weapons?
Assess -> read, look at what enemies are weak to. Abuse that Some enemies are easy to guess, others take a bit of work. Some of them are easy to pressure, others just take a beating. A lot of enemies will have warnings when they are about to do something, and you just need to move out of the way. or block.
Ff7Remake isn't an easy game, so don't feel defeated just yet. My recommendation, apart from what others have suggested, is to invest in healing materia instead of potions. When I played I had healing materia on all my characters. Might need to find a place to grind to get the gil, but once you're outfitted you can put that money into other things as you progress.
Any tips or trick I can do
Here's the best way I've found: https://gprivate.com/65ett
Tackle daemons (iron giants are probably the strongest you can handle right now — so those will help you take in the XP) and DO NOT rest at havens. Instead of havens, go to the best lodges or hotels you can afford. For the money, the inns at Galdin Quay (double multiplier) and the Leville (triple multiplier) in Altissia are likely your best bets.
If you have an item called the nixperience band, this process is a bit easier since it allows you to stockpile your XP while staying anywhere. Just put it on one of your team until you’re ready to use one of the high multiplier inns. Your XP will rise but your level will stay the same until you take it off.
The only drawback to this method is that those inns are really expensive. Do not go to them until you have a good amount of XP stockpiled or you will waste your gil.
If you feel like packing it in a bit more, use expericast elemancy. I haven’t used that in awhile so I am not sure if it only works for the caster, though.
Hello everyone, I have another question, I would like you to recommend places or tricks where I can level up quickly.
May be obvious, but equip embroidered tippet accessories and clear every area as you go. Golden amulet for LP.
Let's see... from where you've said you're at, I'm fairly certain that you can complete the quest in the Dalmasca Estersand with the injured traveler by accessing the North Bank. Once you've done that you should have access to a certain area (>!The Barheim Passage!<) and once there you can explore for some good experience. The main objective in directing you here is one of the optional espers, Zalera, which casts Kill on enemies as its default gambit and can help make leveling a breeze.
On that note, depending on how good you're kitted out and how good you play, you may be able to face the esper Exodus in the Mosphoran Highwaste by solving a puzzle involving the steam shrines near its save point. >!You're going to want to use a chocobo for some portions, there is one just to the east of the area the crystal is in.!< Exodus is an extremely powerful esper that can deal out very strong damage, and actually has an effective HP of over 9999 when summoned (I believe it begins under the effect of bubble, or something.)
With Exodus and Zalera on two separate characters, it becomes relatively easy to quickly grind for experience and LP. As for where in particular might be effective, you will soon find yourself in the Port of Balfonheim. The area just next to it (which seems to be entirely optional) is called the Cerobi Steppe. While the monsters on the Steppe are very strong relative to when you can first access it, most are vulnerable to Zalera's "Kill" spell and pretty much all I've seen can be solo'd with Exodus if you keep yourself out of harm's way. The characters with these espers are going to get a lot of EXP and everybody gets a bunch of LP after a bit of grinding here... but wait, there's more! In the Zodiac Age release of the game (which I assume is what you're playing), chests in the Cerobi Steppe should always be opened on sight and always with the Diamond Armlet. Unlike almost every other area in the game, the Cerobi Steppe chests opened with the Diamond Armlet have a low chance to drop extremely good gear. With a bit of luck you may find yourself jumping ahead a few gear tiers ahead of time.
All in all I find gear and licenses, more than levels, to make or break the party's effectiveness in this game.
Where are you at in game?
I just set up gambits and kill everything I come across, seems to be doing well enough for me.
I'm going along the coast of fon and my characters are level 34 each.
I believe I killed the birds at phon coast for leveling in my first playthrough. Those humanoid birds. You can kill just them, increasing the killstreak. But there if u really want to break the game, look up the miriam level up afk trick. You let the game up while you're eating, sleeping, etc.
You can beat this game at level 1 so grinding should be Unnecessary. What problems are you having?
You’re at phon coat i see. Then you definitely shouldn’t need to level. Make sure you get firaga from the shop. You should have flame staff/burning bow and serenity for your red/black mages. Pick up the key that drops in phon coast after you defeat antlion. Go back to Lhusu mines and you can get lots of end game armor and weapons there. Golden skullcaps, renewing morion, magepower shishak, glimmering robes, Macmillan, scathe, germinas boots, Arcturus, etc. that should be more than enough to help you survive. The enemies are very strong there so don’t bother attacking them. Just have one party member with protect/shell, bubble and just dash for those treasures. (If you haven’t defeated antlion yet, equip cherry staff on your black mage and hit it with aeroga, use a warp mote on the smaller enemies, equip the indigo pendant to make it connects (found in he area at the end of the bridge just before you fight antlion)
You should be able to make karkarta in the bazaar at this point. You can also make Mithuna, give your Shikari a dragon shield and main gauche, red mage can have the chaos mace found in a chest in the salikawood wood. Obelisk for Uhlan is in a chest in the estersand, monk can also find goku pole in a chest I. The salikawood, dragon shield is also available in chests in mosphoran highwaste and estersand. As is Diamond armor and Diamond helmet.
You can also raid nabudis for black robes, white mask, bravery, faith, caribeener mail, giants helm, and steal unlimited golden skullcaps in nabreus. Check this treasure map for all locations I’ve mentioned
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1292596668
Marlboros in the sewers. Skeletons on the bridge. Wyverns in cerobi steppe. KO arrows for chance of one shots. Great crystal runs. The Pharos has some spots with a save crystal nearby.
