Locating Alien Bases in Subnautica

TL;DR To find alien bases in Subnautica, explore the Lost River and Lava Zone using clues from your databank and interactive maps. Key areas include the Deep Grand Reef, Lost River Junction, and Lava Castle.

Databank Clues

Your in-game databank provides essential clues for locating alien facilities. After visiting the first alien base during the Sunbeam sequence, check your databank under Data Downloads > Codes & Clues > Alien Facility Locations [1:2]. This section contains hints about subsequent bases that can guide your exploration without major spoilers.

Key Locations

Several discussions highlight specific locations where alien bases can be found. The Lost River is a crucial area with multiple entrances, including one near Lifepod #2 [5:1]. Within the Lost River, you can find alien pillars leading to the Alien Containment Facility [3:1]. Another significant base is located in the Active Lava Zone/Lava Castle area [3:1][3:3].

Navigational Tools

Using navigational aids like the Subnautica official interactive map can greatly assist in finding alien bases. This map shows cave entrances and paths to major bases [3:2]. Additionally, some players suggest looking for alien tech light beacons on the surface, which may contain scannable power sources [5:2].

Tips for Avoiding Hostile Creatures

Navigating these areas can be challenging due to hostile creatures like the Sea Dragon Leviathan. Using your Cyclops for stealth and protection, or switching between vehicles like the Prawn Suit and Cyclops, can help avoid detection [2:2]. Patience and strategic movement are key to safely exploring these regions.

Exploration Strategy

While exploring, listen to your PDA for additional guidance and clues [5:5]. The game encourages exploration, so don't hesitate to venture into different depths and follow environmental cues. Remember, discovering alien bases is part of the broader adventure, so take your time and enjoy the process!

ORIGINAL POST

So I just went to the aroura, island, degasi base under the island, have built a cyclops, prawn suit, and seamoth, but I don't know where any alien bases are! I haven't seen a single one except for the island one but I didn't get to go in because a reaper ate me. If you guys have any idea on where to start my quest to cure the disease it would be very helpful. Thanks!

If you've finished the alien base from the Sunbeam sequence, you should have gotten a note in your databank. Databank > Data Downloads > Codes & Clues > Alien Facility Locations. That clue should give you a good lead. I can be more specific if you don't mind spoilers, but that code should be enough to help out.

Have you delt with sunbeam yet? If not make sure your radio is repaired and wait for their transmission it'll lead you to a alien base

Are there more alien bases? I’m still progressing, no major spoilers please but I had a lot of fun with the sunbeam sequence and exploring the base. Wondering if there’s another base I can look forward to exploring.

There's an alien terminal in the first base which has vague hints about the next base locations. Check your log book.

Well the 1st is at the crown looking stone formation and the 2nd can be found at the bottom of the lava zone and you should see a sea of lava with alien tech coming from the ground.

You’ll find it eventually, I suggest using your cyclops to avoid those pesky dragons, I myself did a lot of switching off and waiting around till they left and if they noticed me in my prawn I’d jump right back into my cyclops.

There's a base just outside the entrance to the lost river when you go from the Deep Grand Reef left of the degasi base.

In the Lost River Junction there are alien pillars. Follow those and you'll find another alien base which I think is the Alien Containment Facility. The entrance is at the back.

You can find the last one in the Active Lava Zone/Lava Castle area.

We will weaponize the fauna! And we are hiring. Looking for 30+ scientists and assorted personelle for extended stays.

Built it on the intersection of the Mushroom Forest, Bulb Zone and Crash Zone. Close to one of the Alien Portals and the biggest entrance to the lost river.

14 real-time days worth of effort. 95% finished, but I haven't touched it in months.

[WELCOME ABOARD, قبطان] Subnautica: Small Goals to Stay on Track

Posted by Leckersten · in r/PaymoneyWubby · 2 months ago

Previous Subnautica stream was amazing and lots of good progress was made. Way to go Wub. In hopes of making it a continued success and keeping chats attention, I wanted to list some quick spoiler free goals to help keep the pacing up.

Next Stream Goals:

  1. Finish repairs in the room we logged out in, and snag a module in a console for a future upgrade (That's all in the ship for now, come back with Laser Cutter + Propulsion Cannon + AFTER a Radio Message gives you a goal there)
  2. BUILD A BASE: Use Habitat Tool to make your base, your base will have better storage options, upgrades, and a lot more. (It will need power, solar panels work great in the shallows)(EDIT: >!You need to find Fragments/Blueprint for the correct "starting room" to build a base if you don't have it already as it looks like you don't get it by default, just explore to find them) !<
  3. Build Seamoth: Ahh man, if only we had some sort of Vehicle Bay of the Mobile variety to build that sweet sweet Seamoth we unlocked in the Aurora. You'll need to scan fragments to unlock it. Commonly found in.... >!Wrecks, or in crates scattered around the Kelp Forest!<
  4. Explore! We got shit to scan brother, get out there. Keep checking on that Radio, it will give you important locations to explore, but you'll need to find some locations on your own. Our goal when is exploring is, new materials, and new fragments to scan for new blue prints+upgrades... PDA's/Clues too I suppose.

Long Term Goals:

  • What up with this green infected shit? (You may need to scan another green/infected animal, due to a death+reload, not sure if needed for progression)
  • Are we stuck on this bitch?

Just some general Tips:

  • Beacons! Super helpful for marking locations of interest when you have to leave but might want to come back (Can't go that deep yet? Rare resource you don't have room to hold but might need more later? Place a beacon, label it, and come back later)
  • Progression generally goes as follows: Explore > Find new location> Get New Materials/Fragments > Make Upgrades > Now you can go deeper> Repeat
  • PDA's: Keep grabbing them like you have, but yeah you don't necessarily have to listen to/read them all. Mostly lore/story telling but as you saw with the Code for the Cargo Bay, they do have important details like that sometimes. All can be reviewed anytime after collection from the menu. (A lot have Voice Overs that read out the PDA, that you can listen to while you continue to explore if you like)
  • There may come times when you want to build a "remote" base to make resupplying easier, but not required

Damm, this got a little longer than I was hoping, but I hope it helps! Again I loved the stream and want to see it continue to succeed, but hey sometimes it works sometimes it don't. If this is helpful, I can do it again next week to keep us on track or answer specific questions or whatever. Just let me know, happy to help. Best of luck, and don't forget to just enjoy the game~

A weekly wed.txt of bullet points to keep on track without spoiling/backseating is probably best.

Early game goals today:

Radio radio radio radio radio.

Make the habitat builder(tool) a small base with wall lockers. Seaglide/hand tools/food/water/meds is all you need on you when leaving home.

Unlock equipment blueprints from Databoxes at lifepods/shipwrecks.

Tech fragments can be found/scanned around wrecks to unlock more tools/crafting stations. Scanning plants/fish is optional. Scanning resources like ore outcrops can be helpful later.

>!Lifepod 17 “near a cave system” - we briefly saw the cave system then NOPED out when he saw how deep it was and was consuming triple O2 without a rebreather. Revisit this place when you have rebreather/other things to make depths of 100M+ easier to navigate.!<

Inbetween finding a new loc and gathering mats I'd say build a minor base. It's a lot easier to gather materials and upgrades by going between smaller bases than have everything in one big central base (e.g. big base that is shallows adjacent, small base in kelp field)

3 upvotes on reddit
Leckersten · OP · 2 months ago

I'll settle for a singular base at this point... But perhaps a future goal as we explore the unknown....

5 upvotes on reddit
CouldveBeenSwallowed · 2 months ago

The true future goal is to swim out of bounds

2 upvotes on reddit
MuchachoMongo · 2 months ago

The only things I would add are to keep in mind that different biomes have different materials, so if you can't find a mat, you may need to chance it and go deeper.

Leckersten · OP · 2 months ago

Oh good thought! That and pay attention to the different rock "types"

Sandstone = 25% chance of Gold, 37.5% chance of Lead, 37.5% chance of silver

Base locations

Posted by W_asabi_Soup · in r/subnautica · 3 months ago
post image

I think this is the correct flair? This is like my 5th ever run on subnautica, coming back every year or so and completely forgetting how to play it. I always try to build bases in new places so the game doesn't get boring (it rarely does anyways). Shame on me for using a map but I have a horrible memory. had these 3 spots in mind for a base. 1st is east of floating islands. I think it's quite a good location but the bonesharks are a nuisanceeeeee. 2th is a spot in the mushroom forest bordering with a few biomes on the north of the map (next to wreck 12). It's cool but a bit boring I guess? The third one is the cliff side of the blood kelp zone. Any tips or recommendations? Thank you, have a wonderful day! :3

I’ve built at spot 2! Near the blood Kelp and those two mountains near the floating islands is a good outpost imo, but I struggled with materials a small bit. My main base was elsewhere. The locals are nice, you’re not far from the shallows, not far from the deep end.

It’s a good spot for later game play with quick access to relevant areas. >!The cyclops has a path into the LR!< near that area, but I’ve never personally >!driven my cyclops into the lost river through that tunnel thanks to the Friend outside it!<

How to locate alien bases in subnautica

Key Considerations for Locating Alien Bases in Subnautica:

  1. Story Progression: Alien bases are tied to the game's storyline. Progressing through the main quests will naturally lead you to discover these locations.

  2. Key Locations:

    • The Lost River: This area contains several alien structures and is accessed via the Inactive Lava Zone.
    • The Alien Thermal Plant: Located in the Lava Zone, this base is crucial for story progression.
    • The Primary Containment Facility: This is where the final story events unfold and is located deep in the ocean.
  3. Use of the Scanner: Equip your scanner to identify alien technology and structures. Scanning fragments can provide useful information about their locations.

  4. Map Coordinates: Familiarize yourself with coordinates to help navigate:

    • The Lost River: Approx. (-600, -200, -800)
    • The Alien Thermal Plant: Approx. (-800, -200, -300)
    • The Primary Containment Facility: Approx. (800, -200, -300)
  5. Exploration Vehicles: Utilize vehicles like the Seamoth or Prawn Suit to reach deeper areas safely. Upgrading your vehicles with depth modules will allow you to explore further.

Recommendation: Focus on exploring the Lost River and the Lava Zone, as these areas are rich in alien technology and lore. Make sure to prepare adequately with oxygen tanks and food, as these locations can be hazardous. Keep an eye out for the various alien artifacts and structures that will enhance your understanding of the game's narrative.
