TL;DR To perform fatalities in Mortal Kombat 1, you need to input specific button sequences for each character after the "Finish Him" prompt. The sequences vary per character and require precise timing and positioning.
Understanding Fatality Inputs
Fatalities in Mortal Kombat are unique finishing moves that require specific button combinations. Each character has different inputs, which can be found online or within the game's move list [3:1]
[4:3]. For example, Scorpion's fatality involves holding block, pressing up twice, then releasing block
[5:1]
[5:3].
Using Practice Mode
The game offers a Fatality Practice mode where players can learn and perfect the execution of these moves [3:2]. This mode allows you to practice the timing and spacing required without the pressure of a real match.
Positioning and Timing
Correct positioning is crucial when performing fatalities. Some fatalities require you to be close to your opponent, while others need you to be at mid or far distances [2:2]
[5:6]. Additionally, using the d-pad rather than the analog stick can help ensure more accurate input
[2:1].
Finding Fatality Commands
Players can find fatality commands through various resources such as online guides, forums like Eventhubs, or even printed magazines from the arcade days [1:5]
[4:4]. These resources provide detailed instructions for each character's moves and fatalities.
Common Challenges
Many players experience difficulty with fatalities due to complex input sequences or incorrect spacing. Holding block during directional inputs can prevent accidental jumps, which is a common issue when fatalities involve pressing the up button [2:1]
[5:1].

Accidentally? It took me days to actually pulling off Scorpion's Fatality for the first time! Damn up button, why developers thought it was a good idea to insert it in a Fatality sequence?!?
How did people figure out how to do them back in the arcade days when the internet wasn’t a thing?
Magazines most likely.
I finally found Kano's fatality inputs years after MK1 came out. It was the only one my friends and I couldn't do.
Needless to say, I was treated like a God first time I pulled it off
MK1 or MK?!?!
Aside from that, word of mouth. Dudes in arcades would share info. Gamefaqs was fairly early though and it was popular around the 32-bit era.
During the Mortal Kombat 2 arcade glory days I was at the arcade non stop playing it. Was sitting one day and a kid sits down next to me and smugly pulls out a move/fatality list that he printed from a local dial up bulletin board.
After I whooped him a few times I looked at him and said "Kid, who do you think WROTE that guide".
I peaked that day and it's all been downhill since
Back in the old days, we would buy video games magazines that featured many cheats and provided the special moves and fatalities, too.
Magazines and cheat books. There were these little paperback books that could fit in your pocket and it would be full of pages of cheats for as many games as they could pack in. It was usually themed like “SEGA Genesis cheats” or something like that.
For MK3 I had a strategy guide that was huge and covered every character and all their moves / fatalities/ animalities / etc extensively.
When mk3 came out I bought that bigass guidebook that had a section for reach character with bio, facts and move sets. Plus I loved the animation style used to draw the characters
For me it was MK4 with Scorpion's toasty. I could not believe it
Been an OG fan since ‘92 and I only accidentally pulled off fatalities in MK1 (2023) due to many being similar in controls…I can’t remember which one it was though…
how do i learn the other one?
In addition to what others have said, even if it shows the prompt for one fatality you can still practice the other fatalities in the tutorial. Just make sure when you look up the input where to stand (close, mid, far) because if the fatality in practice has the green box right next to the character and the second fatality is 'far' you need to stand one screen away.
ohhhhhhhhh
You can either search up it's input and perform it in a match to unlock it, or work your way through the krypt and you'll eventually find them all (obviously takes more time this way)
Or do an easy Fatality to unlock it
Some good fatality tips: 1. Use the d-pad for best effect. If your stick is off even a little, it'll mess up the inputs. 2. If the move involves pressing up, hold block until its time to input x, y, whatever button to keep the character from hopping up and down. 3. Learn your spacing. When close, try not to be right in their face, as if you slip and end up hitting them, you can't try again.
I just got the game and when I beat someone how do I perform a fatality instead of just letting them fall over? Answer would be appreciated.
Do the Fatality Practice in Training.
How do I turn on my Xbox?
Geez, dude. Sometimes people have basic questions. You don’t need to be a dick about it.
Each character has different inputs for fatality.
Google search the character that you're using and itll tell you
I’ve tried and can’t pull it off.
the one from the reveal trailer is forward (or back I forgot) down down 1, the spear one is down forward back 2.
first fatality is from far, second is from mid
Where do you find the fatalities? Playing baraka and I dont know how to find out what the required inputs are
Pause, move list, L1/R1 to the finishers screen.
Note: can’t pause after “finish him” for some reason.
Check Eventhubs, they have move lists for the three characters.
So receantly I've been playing on mortal kombat 1 and i couldent find how to do scorpion's fatality, the internet says to block and while blocking to do up twice, but it doesnt work for me
For scorpion all you need to do is b b f b blk
Dude the post was 10 months ago how tf did you find it
Hot farts
Hold block, up, up, release block. The distance also matters of course.
Do i need to be close?
No. It's mid-screen.
Sweep distance
Hold block through all of the directional inputs, and release just before the attack input. That’s how I killed people in the old games.
And who was the fighter you were playing
The first fatality I ever saw was The Pit in the first MK, which surprised me, but did not shock me, cause even for the time, it wasn't really super violent, however, when I first had a fatality actually pulled on me a year or two later in MK4 I was actually a bit scared of it, it was on Goro's Lair and I didn't even realize I played MK before, so I did not see it coming at all.
I was about 10 years old and came across the original Mortal Kombat arcade machine in the mall. Didn't know anything about it, and had never played any fighting games previously. I put in my quarter, played as Sonya, got my butt kicked by Liu Kang, and then he uppercutted me into the pit. Seeing my bloody corpse lying there amid a field of spikes and skeletons changed me. I reacted by becoming hopelessly addicted, and spending pretty much all of my allowance for the next several years on every iteration of Mortal Kombat I could get my hands on.
I was a little kid and MK4 was set up in a department store to play for free (because that's an appropriate choice lol), I was Reptile and Raiden threw me up into the spikes on the roof of Goro's Lair.
I wasn't shocked by the violence, I remember thinking Raiden having a special where he throws you into roof spikes was stupid. My child mind comprehended the stage fatality as Raiden's move as if he could just summon spikes in every stage or every stage had hidden spikes just for Raiden...
I forgot who I was playing, but watching Cyrax blow up the entire world was hilarious and I had to see more of this game
I gave him 25 cents to show me how to do it.
Sweep them on the last hit and then perform the scorpion fire fatality, it makes the skeleton get up and sit back down again.
I don’t know if I’m just not seeing something or what, but the Fatality practice section specifically states that you can practice character and kameo fatalities - but when you select your characters and start all you can do is the single main fatality it shows on screen and it ends.
How do I practice a character’s other fatalities and more importantly, how do I practice the Kameo fatalities outside of live game play?
Literally in the same room just hit pause and scroll over to the kameo menu to see how to do their fatality
But it’s literally telling me to do the fatality on screen with a big glowing box where to stand and the commands on the screen, and if I ignore this and try to do the other fatalities instead they don’t seem to work…
They do work you have to be at the correct distance to do it as stated in the fatality menu
Ignore what it says and just do the one you want.
It didn’t seem to be working but maybe my positioning was off I guess, I’ll try again tonight thanks.
Wish I could turn off the big loud “NO DO THIS FATALITY” instructions on the screen lol
We had them in 9, X, and 11 but still nothing for MK1. Mind you, there’s potential. The big melting pot in the Treasure Chamber that Havik got burnt with, the monsters in The Flesh Pits, the traps in The Maze…. All would be welcome
i mean it can come in the future stage fatalities arrived late after mk11 release at the same time of friendship
Friendship and Stage Fatalities arrived at the same time in MK11 with Aftermath, NOT with the Mileena, Rambo and Rain pack.
By the time that Rain, Mileena and Rambo came out those things were already in the game.
Khaos Reigns would’ve been the time to add them like they did with MK11 Aftermath
Every MK that has no Pit stage will always be bottom tier to me, even if it's 99% perfect for the rest.
This is what happening when you rush the creation of a game, its going backwards.
But even in competitive at least for MK X, people disabled Stage interactions so...
I’ll give you an even more interesting fact - MK1 is the only MK game where you cannot interact with the environment in any way whatsoever.
MK - stage fatality
MK2 - stage fatalities
MK3-MKT - stage transitions & stage fatalities
MK4 - stage interactables & stage fatalities
MKDA - stage interactables
MKD - stage interactables, stage transitions, stage weapons & death traps
MKA - stage interactables, stage transitions, stage weapons, death traps & stage fatalities
MK Vs DC - stage interactables & stage transitions
MK9 - stage fatalities
MKX - stage interactables, stage brutalities & stage fatalities
MK11 - stage interactables, stage brutalities & stage fatalities
MK1 - nothing
To be honest, the stage interactables sucked. But I wish we got stage transitions
Stage transitions would be awesome. I personally enjoyed the interactables too - I grew up on 3D MK, and it always made the environment seem “real”, like you’re actually there.
Not entirely true, though you can't interact with it in a way that affects gameplay, you can interact with background elements like the chairs in The Tea House or the rumba in Cage Mansion
That ’s a good point, though I guess what I meant was an impact on gameplay. All of the things I’ve listed are gameplay-related whereas the interactions you mention are purely cosmetic.
Not sure how many people know this, but you can perform fatalities even if they are locked. You need to know the inputs however, and you can simple Google those
I did this yesterday w kung lao. Was tryna do his default then i was like wtf is this i'll take it tho
You can do them you just have to have the input memorized or written down somewhere because those have to be unlocked via Krypt.
Like in every other MK game. :)
Except this time they don’t unlock when performed.
I'm years late but they actually do, at least now.
Yea, only brutalities need to be unlocked to do them.
No you can do them too, my AI does them all the time
but can YOU do them? without unlocking
I’ve seen the AI do then, didnt think we, as players, could.
Can you still unlock new fatalities by performing the right button combo or can you only unlock them in the krypt?
You can do the second ones if you know the command. Theres a thread at TYM with (nearly) every command.
You wanna link the thread?
Good, I was worried I would have to grind for those
Can you link this thread?

What about brutalities?
How to perform fatalities in Mortal Kombat 1
Performing Fatalities in Mortal Kombat 1: Key Considerations
Know Your Character's Fatalities: Each character has specific Fatality moves. Familiarize yourself with the Fatalities available for your chosen character. You can usually find this information in the game's move list.
Distance Matters: Fatalities often require you to be at a specific distance from your opponent (close, mid-range, or far). Make sure you position yourself correctly before attempting the Fatality.
Timing is Crucial: Fatalities must be executed quickly after you win the final round. You have a limited time to input the command before the match ends.
Input the Correct Command: Each Fatality has a specific combination of directional inputs and button presses. Practice the input in training mode if necessary.
Practice Makes Perfect: If you're struggling to perform a Fatality, practice in training mode to get the timing and input down.
Example Fatality Commands:
Recommendation: Use the practice mode to refine your skills and get comfortable with the Fatality inputs. This will help you execute them smoothly during actual matches.
