TL;DR Start by playing through the campaigns in order, focusing on unlocking subclasses and engaging with community resources for guidance. Consider joining a clan or community for support.
Navigating the Game
Returning players often feel overwhelmed due to changes and new content in Destiny 2. A good starting point is understanding the sequence of expansions: Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, Witch Queen, Lightfall, and finally, The Final Shape [4:1]. Each expansion introduces unique subclasses and story elements that are crucial for gameplay progression. Focus initially on completing these campaigns to unlock all available subclasses and familiarize yourself with the game's mechanics
[4:2].
Community Engagement
Joining a clan or community can significantly enhance your experience and provide guidance through complex aspects like raids and nightfalls [2:1],
[2:3]. Many players offer help through Discord servers or direct invitations, providing opportunities to learn from experienced players
[2:4]. This social aspect can make the game more enjoyable and less daunting.
Understanding Content and Editions
The standard edition of The Final Shape includes the expansion and the first episode/season pass, ensuring you have access to all initial content at launch [5:3],
[5:4]. Episodes replace seasons in this expansion, offering more content per episode and extending over approximately four months
[5:2]. It's important to note that while episodes begin shortly after the expansion's release, their story content becomes available progressively
[5:4].
Technical Issues and Server Access
Some players have reported server issues during the launch period, which may affect gameplay [3:1],
[3:6]. If you encounter problems accessing the game, check Bungie's official channels for updates and troubleshooting tips
[3:11].
Additional Resources
For beginners needing more structured guidance, online tutorials and video guides can be invaluable. YouTube has many beginner-friendly guides that explain game mechanics and strategies in detail [4:2],
[4:3]. These resources can help clarify complex aspects of the game and improve your overall understanding and enjoyment.
Hey fellas. Hope you all are doing well. I am a D2 player. However, I haven't played since the season of the Wish. I got a console so I downloaded Destiny and purchased The Final Shape expansion. However, upon opening the game, I was quite overwhelmed with the general experience and needed some guidance navigating through it all. What was removed? What is here? What do I do? I primarily play warlock so I'm open if someone has some advise or wanted to lend a hand to run some of the Final Shape content together. I'll appreciate any advice given. Please feel free to send a dm if you are interested in playing together and stuff. I play in NA-East. Thank you all.
Happy to help! Which platform do you play on? If you want to DM me I can get a squad going and we can run you through some final shape. I main warlock as well. My gamertag is: CAMELM3ISTR
Hey Everyone! M/EST
I'm new to Destiny 2 and just ran through the four DLC's (Forsaken, Beyond Light, Witch Queen, Lightfall) I'm now getting towards the end of The Final Shape. I don't know much about the end game of Destiny 2 as I've never done a raid or a nightfall dungeon. Just curious if there's anyone 18+ that could show me around or maybe take me on some runs so I can learn! Only thing I'm doing right now is the Nether quest in The Last CIty and that's been hella fun!
Anyways, thanks for reading, hope to hear from you!

The day has come, Guardians. Happy The Final Shape launch day! Much is happening today, so we wanted to help by putting everything you might need to know in one place. Let's start with The Final Shape launch trailer, shall we?
Video Link ##Confronting Oblivion
In our latest ViDocs, we shared why The Final Shape is so special. We talked about the emotional journey, the Witness's plans, the beloved characters you've known for almost ten years, the new powers, the dangers, the places you'll find... You know what? It's better if you just watch them yourself.
Video LinkVideo Link ##Through The Pale Heart
Crow was first. Now, it's our turn to step inside the Traveler and explore : The Pale Heart. It's strange, yet familiar. Welcoming, but unsettling. You'll first experience this new destination in a more linear way while playing through the campaign, but afterward, it will continue unfolding with new locations, challenges, and activities. And with Pathfinder—our new progression system for The Pale Heart destination and Ritual activities—you'll earn tons of rewards while doing so.
Video Link ##A Campaign for Legends
In The Final Shape campaign, you, the Vanguard, and your allies will pursue the Witness to thwart its plans. It won't be easy, especially if you play it in Legendary Mode. You'll have to test your mettle on every fight, but your efforts will earn you upgraded rewards, like a set of armor with a high enough Power Level for raid content.
##Fear the Dread
The Dread is a new species born as a result of the Witness's incursion inside of the Traveler. They are a menace, and you'll need new strategies to defeat them.

During their adventures inside The Pale Heart, players will earn three new Light-based Supers, one for each Guardian class and each of them accompanied by new Aspects.

But that's not all. The blending of Light and Darkness inside of the Traveler will allow Guardians to go beyond their known limits and combine both powers for the first time with the Prismatic subclass. Players will be able to combine select features of Light and Darkness subclasses, while also having some new and powerful Fragments at their disposal, resulting in incredibly powerful builds.
With Prismatic, using Light and Darkness will also charge a new power called Transcendence, which will overflow Guardians with power, allowing them to create a unique grenade. Born from Light and Darkness, these grenades have increased damage output and regenerate at a faster pace.
The cherry on top for Prismatic is the addition of new Exotic class items. These are exclusive to the Prismatic subclass, and you earn them through a unique activity in The Final Shape. Each of these Exotic class items has a mix of two Exotic armor perks, allowing for combos that were not possible before. Check out the list of Exotic perk combinations here.
Video LinkVideo LinkVideo Link ##New Arsenal
Speaking of Exotics, we have a formidable lineup of new Exotic weapons that will allow you to defeat your foes in unique ways. Still Hunt shoots like a Marksman Hunter, Microcosm shoots wide beams of powerful Light, Khvostov is an old friend made anew and... well, you’ll discover what the rest do on your adventure.
###Still Hunt Video Link ###Microcosm Video Link ###Khvostov Video Link
Six new Exotic pieces of armor will also be available in The Final Shape, two for each class. Three of these pieces have their own trailers already, check them out below.

Of course, new Legendary gear is also needed in this fight, and we have plenty. For starters, the new destination weapons are all craftable, and some are part of new archetypes, like the new Auto Rifle that heals your allies when you shoot at them.
Here's the whole list:
And let's not forget one very important upgrade coming to many weapons, including both new weapons and those already in your vault: perk enhancing. A broad selection of Legendary weapons can now have their perks enhanced.
##An Ever-Evolving Sandbox
Our Sandbox team has been busy making changes to weapons, armor, and abilities. We have three different articles covering the main changes coming with The Final Shape. Be prepared to buildcraft and be your strongest self by reading these:
Additionaly, we have a preview of the perks that the new Seasonal Artifact brings to the table. It’s another crucial aspect of buildcrafting in Destiny 2.
##Storm the New Raid: Salvation's Edge
In The Final Shape, Guardians will confront the Witness in the new Salvation's Edge raid launching on June 7. Our World First race will be taking place during the first 48 hours of the raid, when Contest Mode will also be active. Whether you participate in the raid with your fireteam or follow the race on Twitch Rivals, you won’t want to miss this.
Please note that we encourage all players to complete The Final Shape campaign and the Wild Card Exotic quest prior to the launch of Salvation’s Edge to have the best story experience.
##Destiny 2 x Dungeons & Dragons Video Link
We’re rolling a 20 on excitement for our newave partnership with Wizards of the Coast, bringing Dungeons & Dragons to Destiny 2 in The Final Shape. Faerûn-inspired sets will be available at the Eververse store on June 4, as well as more gear and accessories inspired by this iconic role-playing franchise.
In addition, the Bungie Store will also be offering an Eye Tyrant Beholder Ghost shell vinyl figure, inspired by the fearsome multi-eyed D&D monster.
##The Year of Episodes Begins on June 11
The first Episode, Echoes, will start a new era for Destiny 2 on June 11, exactly one week after The Final Shape launches. We'll share more information about Echoes and Episodes after The Final Shape launch.
##Many Quality-of-Life Changes
The Final Shape also brings a lot of important changes to many Destiny 2 systems, from how Rahool will decrypt Exotic engrams to how shaders are shown in the customization menu. Below you can find a list of these changes:
##Read the Update 8.0.0.1 Patch Notes
For the remaining information about what has been added and what is changing with The Final Shape, please read the patch notes for Update 8.0.0.1.
As we said at the beginning, today is the day. You can finally play The Final Shape, face the Witness and its forces, and live an adventure ten years in the making.
Have fun, everyone!
The Destiny 2 Community Team
I almost didn’t kill your mother because I was so exited for the final shape. Now I can’t log in. Why does the world hate good people?
"Destiny 2 servers are not available. Dismiss this message to try again.
For more information, please visit help.bungie.net"
The final shape is “destiny 2 servers are not available”
Anyone on console actually made it in?
I did. Played the first FS mission with "contacting D2 servers" constantly popping up. Then got bounced when I thought I'd made it through - twice.
The real ending of Destiny 2
Dead servers. This is The Final Shape. The Witness has succeeded.
….yeah, but please finish the campaign and raid race before this weekend. “For best story experience.”
Servers are kill. Edit: I’m in.
I’m on ps5 it’s 11 pst and I have a server down error
I'm also here trying to figure out when the servers will be up
Ps5 and I have been trying to get on for 1 hour and 51 minutes currently. Playstation is no better than anything else
Hi guys, I have played D2 quite a lot, but did not understand anything in the game. Got D2 legacy collection with all DLCs + The Final Shape on PS Plus just now and planning to start playing it now. I find the game pretty overwhelming and complicated to understand, which is why I want to know if there are any beginner-friendly guide(s) on what to exactly do when you jump in. For eg - what DLCs to play and in what order and much more.
Would love some help, thanks!
So, I think the order of the dlcs goes like this; shadowkeep, beyond light, witch queen, lightfall, final shape.
Beyond light will grant you the stasis subclass, Lightfall will give you the strand subclass. Witch queen will teach you about hive with ghosts, final shape will grant you access to the prismatic subclass.
I would work on doing all the campaigns. If you don't really care about order story wise, do the ones that give you access to other subclasses.
While doing that, upgrade your guardian rank to 6 if you can, and try to unlock as much exotic armor and guns as you can.
A chest that will give you an instant bump to 2020 light level is in eternity, once you click the destination, travel to rite of the nine. Once there, head straight until you see the vendor. The chest to loot is directly to the left of the vendor. I would do this first before ANYTHING.
Thank you for your response. One thing you should know: I am pretty noob at the game! I don't know almost anything you are talking about. Whatever I played: I forgot about it cause I kept dropping in and out of the game.
Lemme know if you know any good and easy to understand YT guide videos, thanks a lot!
Basically do beyond light, light fall, and final shape to unlock sub classes and witch queen for a W campaign. Final shape is probably the best of the 4 in terms of loot and subclass. As for guides check out https://youtu.be/ADFJul3WnqU?si=QNG6C1K5l9r1mIv6
So the seasons aren't included, but I thought they start like months later. Now I realized that they drop a week or so after launch so if I only buy the expansion what am I missing out on at launch?
Standard edition of TFS includes the first season. The 1st episode content starts a week after the release.
But season ≠ episode, right? Or are you saying that I'm getting the first episode with it? And how long does that last? Is there only one battle pass?
Episodes replace seasons with final shape. There are 3 episodes instead of 4, but each episode has more content and there are 200 total season pass levels instead of 100. I think the assumption is each episode will last roughly 4 months since there are 3 of them.
The standard editon includes the first episode/season pass so you aren't missing out on anything at launch. The only thing you'd miss out on is the tessellation exotic fusion, but if it's similar to last year then all final shape owners will get access to it in the second episode/season of the year.
I thought Quicksilver was an exotic quest weapon if you didn't pre-order
No there was no quest to get quicksilver. Those who only bought standard edition just didn't get access to the gun till the second season of lightfall (deep). It was available to pick up from rahool.
Annual pass owners got the gun on lightfall launch, or even months before if they pre ordered annual pass.
For some reason I got the tessellation on day one... and only own standard.
The final shape standard edition includes the final shape and the current episode when you log in for the first time after it launches. This means you’ll have all content released on the 4th.
The first episode/season starts the same day the expansion drops, since the first TFS episode takes place after the campaign, its story will only become available in the second week onwards and will somehow relate to the ending of TFS.
I never got the current episode?
I was a pretty hardcore Destiny 2 player back in the day, and I’m considering getting back into it. I stopped playing in the gap before The Final Shape came out because of real life commitments but I’m looking at getting back in.
My question is, would there be any point buying The Final Shape at this point in time?
It seems like there’s been a pretty significant overhaul with Edge of Fate, and I’m curious whether it’s worth it for the story closure alone, or whether I should just YouTube it and start fresh.
The systems overhauls don't affect story content or the Prismatic subclass, and the weapons you can get will still be very good in almost all the content in the game.
Prismatic clases are very strong and fun honestly, the story is engaging, and there's some good crafting
You can also grind for the dual destiny mythic class item
Overall those are the reasons I bought it, very worth it to me at least
Definitely get it, it's the best expansion ever released.
Prismatic is worth, I’d get it
Prismatic is ridiculously powerful and it alone makes it worth getting. It was on sale a bit ago, not sure if it still is.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape is available to PlayStation Plus members May 30.
I haven't had PS+ in a while, is it free just for the month of June or free in perpetuity once acquired (like standalone games)?
EDIT: Thanks for the responses! I moved to PC but I have a friend who has refused to come back to D2 because they're behind on expacs. Maybe with the newest expac they'll come back for the story and I (or the game) can convince them to stick around.
You need to maintain the PS subscription in order to access it. Otherwise, you’ll “own” it but it’ll be locked/unplayable.
Bungie doesn't exactly handle that well. I remember when Beyond Light was on Game Pass. Once it went off gamepass I immediately lost access to the stasis subclass.
I could understand not being able to play the content (i.e. raids / dungeons) but it seemed a step too far to me to re-lock the subclass.
Like standalone but I believe you have to continue having ps plus to continue owning it
Great, might check it out again. Still want to finish the fight.
Do I have to play lightfall before TFS?
Yeah Lightfall has some sick gameplay but yeah the story is kinda ass compared to Witch Queen or Final Shape, but overall for strand, the raid and loot it’s pretty worth it to play through
To fully understand the story? Yes.
To just have access to TFS? No.
You do need to play Lightfall to unlock the Strand subclass.
They just need to know “Radial Mast” and they know the story of Lightfall.
People complain about Lightfall's story, but the gameplay is still fun so I recommend it. Plus it's how you unlock the strand subclass, and that alone is worth it.
The Legacy collection is also on there from June 4, so new destiny players with PS+ will have access to almost entire Destiny content up to FS, including several dungeons.
Best to play now . Someone said wait till the next DLC as they going make it more simple for New players?
The next DLC comes out in about 2 months but it’s definitely worth it to dive in and play the final shape campaign.
Does anyone want to add me on destiny 2? I took a break from this game for a couple years and just got back into it and bought the final shape (bad timing I know, since the edge of fate just came out) I can’t get the newest expansion yet 😭 so anyone wanna help me relearn the game and do all the content before the edge of fate?
sure my bungie tag is frog#3831
I’d love to help!!! Can I dm?
Yeah sure!
Heads up to anyone who doesn't have the final shape add-on and has a ps plus membership, the final shape is on this month's free games on ps4.
If I get TFS and then later cancel ps+, do I lose access to TFS?
u only have it while u have an active ps+ sub
You wouldn't even be able to play D2 anyway without it???
i think so. When i canceled ps plus, i lost everything i had gotten for free, but it came back when i resigned back on.
Yes
Yes you have to have an active subscription to play any games claimed through PS+, you can rejoin at a later date and your access will be restored.
Game requires plus for alot of the content
The actual meat and potatoes of Final Shape is awesome but the real tell will be the player retention after everyone beats it and either still keeps playing it or moves to others games, plus the changes from Seasons to Episodes is also a bit of a question mark.
So far, it seems exactly the same but with rewards strung out a little more to keep people playing all season. Not a bad thing by any means but the seasonal activity is… only ok and seems like they made some of the same mistakes they always do when making it. It’s only the first week though so I expect it to vary up, people to clue onto mechanics and missable things as we get deeper into the story this season/episode.
Is there any point in a new player starting destiny?
I know they remove old content but I think I have a couple of expansions from ps plus, I want to get it into it but dunno if it’s too late?
I’ve loved it so far. think I’m about halfway through. Truly just enjoying grinding up and helping some returning players like myself git gud.
Diablo and this dlc have been refreshing lately
D4 finally coming around? played the shit out of pre-season. then just dropped it after a bit into s1 or whatever, not long after they nerfed helltides / cool down reduction..etc
Bungie always manages to pull miracles outta their ass when you think they’ve used up all their luck
I kind of look at it this way (3k hours on it).
I haven’t played since shadowkeep. I can’t be bothered to get back in at this point, after the sunsetting and other BS.
But god damn am I so happy watching people who stuck with it, enjoy the game, and love this expansion. The Vets deserve it.
Just fyi, sunsetting for weapons and armor has been reverted so everything in your collection is upgradable now. The content up to forsaken is still gone which sucks, but the game is extremely content rich right now.
can someone translate this in simpler terms. last time i played was during covid and im thinking of trying out the new expansion.
Nice. That’s good.
Still crazy to me that they just literally took it away.
The option is there to just download everything separately if we wanted to play it. Why doesn’t Bungie just do that?
I played Destiny 1 religiously. For Destiny 2, I stopped at Curse of Osiris (or Warmind?), dipped back in for about half an hour during the Gjallarhorn thing for the nostalgia.
I wouldn't say I'm invested, but I would like to see how this all ends, especially since I watched a lore video recently. I've always loved the lore.
Is there any merit to returning now for someone like me?
I wonder if content from the first episode will be playable during the last episode before the next dlc releases. Don't know if that's been answered anywhere yet, but that's one thing I am curious about.
The first episode of the year suggests it’s the typical destiny cycle of following greatness with massive disappointment and then saying they’ll do better again.
