What Redditors are Saying

How to Promote Your Blog

TL;DR

  • Focus on SEO and keyword optimization.
  • Utilize social media platforms like Pinterest, Reddit, and Quora.
  • Engage with other blogs and communities for collaboration.

SEO and Content Optimization

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is crucial for driving traffic to your blog. Writing articles that target specific keywords your audience might search for can help improve your blog's ranking on search engines [3:2][3:4]. Tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, and Mangools can assist in finding high-volume keywords [3:4]. Additionally, ensure your content is engaging and relevant to your audience, as this will encourage readers to stay and explore more [1:1].

Social Media and Cross-Promotion

Utilizing social media platforms is an effective way to promote your blog. While Instagram and Facebook may not be as effective without an existing audience, platforms like Pinterest, Reddit, Quora, and Facebook Groups can be beneficial [1:2][2:1]. Sharing snippets of your blog posts across these platforms can increase visibility and engagement [3:3]. Repurposing your content into videos or graphics for social media can also enhance reach [3:1].

Engagement and Collaboration

Building relationships with other bloggers and engaging with their content can create opportunities for collaboration. Consider writing guest posts or inviting others to contribute to your blog [4:1]. Engaging genuinely with other blogs and communities can lead to increased exposure and potentially drive traffic to your own blog [4:1].

Platform Choice and Technical Setup

Choosing the right platform for your blog is important. WordPress.org offers full ownership, customization, and control over monetization [2:3]. Hosting services like Hostinger are recommended for beginners due to their user-friendly interface [2:5]. Ensure your blog design is modern and appealing, as this can impact reader retention [1:2].

Content Quality

Ultimately, the quality of your content is paramount. Good writing that resonates with your audience will naturally attract readers [5:1]. Regularly updating your blog with fresh and engaging content will keep your audience interested and coming back for more [5:2].

ORIGINAL POST

Hi all! I’ve been running a wildlife blog for years now (was on hiatus for a number of years, recently restarted). I’d love to start increasing my traffic and getting more engagement with it, but so far it’s been crickets, other than my regular search engine view (~30-50/ day). So my question is where have you had success promoting your blog? Thanks!

Ditch Instagram and Facebook. That doesn’t work anymore unless you have an existing audience. Invest in Pinterest (if your niche allows it), Reddit, Quora and Facebook Groups (linking posts to expand your answer to someone’s question in a post). Invest a lot in SEO in the next 8 months to build authority for your website.

Edit: I took a look at your website and you need to revamp the look (improve the colour scheme - looks outdated), branding (logo and header image/collage), learn SEO (you need to improve your first paragraphs). Btw your Etsy shop is really cool!

Hi,

Here are some steps that you can try implementing:

  • The foremost step being - Write for your audience and then for the search engines. Most bloggers/writers do this mistake of optimizing their content for the search engines, but forget about their user intent, and target audience.
  • Try creating stellar creatives for each platform and once you make your blog post live, cross-promote it on different social media platforms using the creatives + unique captions for each.NEVER REPEAT YOUR CAPTIONS to garner more traffic.
  • Depending on the platform you're posting on, leverage the relevant hashtags. Example: Instagram might show you one hashtag as trending while the same hashtag might not be in trend on another platform. So, pick your hashtags carefully
  • Use platforms like - Medium, Pinterest, Quora, and even Reddit to promote your blog post, but ensure that in the pursuit of promotion, you aren't SPAMMING the Groups.

On Quora, while answering the questions (around your blog topic), ensure that you're providing detailed answer, instead of simply putting your blog link within the answer. Doing so, will lead to your Account getting disabled by Quora moderators.

  • Consistently network and interact with your audience. Keep a check on their response towards your content using dedicated surveys. Based on the feedback you receive, create content around their issues/queries and your content will garner amazing response.

These are some of the top pointers I recall at this moment. Will update the answer if anything else crosses by.

Best wishes to you.

Cheers,

Manu Mathur

Beginner blogger looking for useful advice to get it started.

Posted by Ordinary_Dare_8688 · in r/Blogging · 5 months ago

Hi everyone, I've always enjoyed writing and found it to be the best way for me to express myself. Until recently, I kept it all private, but I've decided it's time to put more time and effort into it and start sharing something that's really personal to me.

I'm currently working on my website and writing content. My goal is to get people reading, engaging with my work, and eventually subscribing to my page.

I'm wondering—what's the best way to promote a personal blog? Are there certain platforms (like Medium or others) that help with getting noticed or building a following?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I highly recommend using WordPress.org for your blog, I host my own blogs with NixiHost and I have fantastic experience with them. This combo gives you full ownership, a professional domain, complete customization, tons of design options, and control over monetization. Unlike free platforms, you'll have no content restrictions, better performance, room to grow, professional email, improved SEO, and a direct connection with your audience. Promote your blog by sharing on relevant social media, engaging in writing communities, building an email list, using SEO, and considering guest posts. NixiHost simplifies the technical stuff with easy setup and support, letting you focus on your writing like me.

Okay, I have to say it because I see Nixihost recommended here every day. I am a beginner and found Nixihost not beginner friendly at all. I tried them out because this subreddit but it’s probably better for someone that is much more advanced and understands the language. The interface wasn’t intuitive at all. Only a handful of video tutorials that were confusing to follow. Ran into multiple broken links on their own site. I switched to Hostinger and it was SO much better. Had my site up the next day and didn’t even need to talk to customer service. Every host gets bashed and praised for different reasons, there isn’t a perfect one but I think hostinger is perfect for anyone that’s new to Wordpress/blogging.

Reddit works better now. Medium could bring readers, however medium itself is micro blogging site. Pinterest is better for visuals blog. Quora can be another popular choice to promote.

Make it everywhere apart from SEO.

Good luck..

Blogs get traffic through SEO, not marketing.

Write articles about things people are searching for and if the blog is structured well enough, has the correct keywords and topics, it will rank high on google.

If your blogs contain content with little search volume, you won't get any "viewership"

I’ve been ticking all those boxes. I do keyword research and write on topics are that being searched for. Still, I feel like I’m missing something? I’d hate to think I’m a bad writer but it’s certainly not reassuring when I do everything I can to get more readers but the results are still disappointing.

Keyword research, and writing on topics that people are searching for. I post a snippet of the post on reddit, linkedin, twitter, with a link that redirects to my blog. Beyond that nothing.

codePhilip_ · 7 months ago

Depends on what you write on and how big that niche is. You need to write articles that are SEO optimized so target specific keywords your target audience might search for. There are also tool to see what volume the keywords have in terms of searches. (ahrefs, semrush, mangools)

Also repurpose your content, write a newsletter, turn your articles into posts for reddit, make script out of your articles and make a video for youtube, cut that into short videos for tiktok or youtube shorts, etc.

Find other blogs that are doing similar things. Show support and engagement the way you would like people to do with yours. Be genuine. Make yourself available to write a guest post (or other type of collaboration) and invite them to do the same. Then move on and focus back on your work. Set aside some time as part of your routine to be active about reaching out and putting your work out there and eventually something will catch.

How to promote my blog?

I started a new blog and want to increase readership and traffic. I'm new to both blogging in general and using forums such as reddit. How can I work to promote my blog - potentially on reddit but also in other avenues? I will say that I've chosen to blog "anonymously" so using my personal social media accounts to promote won't be an option.

Blogging is not as popular as it once was, so you'll immediately have some problems there. imo, while it's frustrating, your writing needs to speak for itself. There's not amount of promotion on your end that can make it a viral sensation or get high levels of ongoing readership, it takes good content that people want to consume.

Hi, my top 5 points are -- 1. understand my audience. Goals, needs, and pain points. 2. Choose a sleek design that's mobile-responsive and easy on the eyes. 3. Stick with High-quality content, generic/ai generated crap won't cut it. 4. Add plenty of engaging media, video, images, etc. 5. Grab an analytics tool so you can see how your posts are doing and figure out what's working and what's not.

Before starting a blog, create all possible social media for your blog so that nobody can impersonate you.

How would that stop anyone? They can just pick a similar name, do whatever they want to do, and you are at the mercy of the social media network mods.

An approved link from your blog is the only source of truth to which is authentic regardless of what order things happen in.

It'll prevent others to get the official names.

For example your username.

Technically someone else can still impersonate you by naming themselves "travel_ali2", but as long as you have the more official name, less likely it is for people to believe them.

Worse case scenario, if they do believe them, you can simply claim that you do not own that account.

It depends on your goals, but for most bloggers…

You need to know:

  • who your audience is, their problems & pain points
  • what they want vs what they need
  • how to provide the solutions
  • the problems the solutions create
  • where to promote before you write the post

Or… just like, some technical stuff. Idk.

Assuming you want to monetise it and you are already set up? (By the sounds of your intro).

  1. Post consistently - 2 -3 times per week.
  2. Add you own pictures and/video (depending on topic), as it adds a lot to your post and proves you're actually doing/knowledgeable about the thing you are talking about.
  3. Pick a couple of good traffic driving socials and build them - get social on them consistently. For traffic, I would definitely recommend Facebook, Pinterest and/or YouTube.
  4. This should probably be number one - but write about what you love/enjoy. You want last long if you don't!
  5. Write with the mindset that you are helping your audience/solving their problem. People are busy and want something from your blog - keep them engaged, so no topics that can be solved by a quick query! Remember without your audience, you are nothing!

Traffic is becoming harder to get with AI. Regular SEO practices are shifting or simply not working any more.

You need a balance, a brand that brings user back to your blog directly. meaning they aren't searching for answers and finding you on Google.

Getting the basics of SEO right is still valid.

You also need to start writing for AI engines. More FAQs, unique pieces, case studies, interviews, etc

Ai wants quick answers to questions.

You want visibility and yeah, it can be hard to get for your site and brand. Press releases can draw eyes to your website. Posting to 'low hanging fruit' sites, like those from sites in your niche that allow for posting without requiring a fee. Social media is critical now. Posting to Instagram, tiktok and Facebook are ideal for getting visitors to your content. We use PR companies to create content and distribute to a network of sites. You can use platforms like Qwoted to try to get your brand visibility.

We post well researched and constructed blog entries to our websites and blast to social media channels, focusing on our targeted keyword phrases. We help increase visibility to our sites by submitting to local channels, trying to increase our visibility in Google map pack. We also find websites that are in our niche and work out deals to post our content on their websites, which brings clicks to our websites. We also optimize so our content is more likely to appear in AI overview.

There's a lot of things you can do to increase blog traffic but it's not easy and can require a lot of effort and strategic initiative.

How do you guys promote a blog these days?

I started blogging in 2005 and... well, I've never stopped. I don't blog for money, I write because I like it and I enjoy side perks (it's my portfolio, a way to meet people, etc.).

I used to get traffic from commenting (genuine comments!) on other blogs but my feed is desesperately quiet, looks like nobody is blogging anymore. I have limited social media presence outside the blog because 1) I have a life 2) I don't have that much to say that I need to be on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and more.

So, how do you promote a blog in 2022? How do you reach out to people? Any tips?

And we can create and post our blog links on our own Quora Space.

Quora is a clean site, answers can get collapsed but you will not get flamed with full caps hammering for including a link or 2 into a write up.

Update your blog address into your credential so people can see and click it when they check you out.

Just search and follow topics related to your blog, and answer questions you want that Quora shows you.

I am guessing you do not have at least 70 posts written yet? It will be very unlikely to have barely traffic with that many articles...

1 upvotes on reddit
Volfik555 · 3 years ago

Allow me to answer. I use Quora almost daily. And it's the only social network I enjoy managing.

The way you share your blog there is simple. You find questions that are within your expertise and answer them. Ideally, you answer a question that you happen to have written an article on. The important thing is not to spam and to give a really informative answer. And at the end of the answer or during the answer, you throw in a link to your article where you describe it in even more detail.

Quora gives everyone quite a few views so analytically it's not bad at all. It will be slower at first but it will snowball very quickly.

In my humble opinion, posting on social media provides potential traffic because it will appear on the news feed of the people you frequently interact with.

If the title is catchy, there's a big chance they might click it and go to your blog post. If your content is great (solves their challenge, they get entertained, learned something), then there's a big chance they share your post.

Also like others' comments: Quora is also a good resource of traffic.

I also learned from income school, the most effective way according to them is to continue creating quality contents because later on these blog posts will be indexed and Googled by people.

Hope this helps!😁

Social media is one of the most effective ways to promote a blog and drive traffic. It takes time and effort, but it can pay off in the end. Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook are great platforms for this purpose.

Create a content calendar to keep yourself organized and ensure your efforts are consistent. Make your content engaging and relevant to attract views and followers. Engage with your audience and others in your niche.

Consider using ads to boost your organic reach or working with marketing agencies like AscendViral, which offer organic growth services for Instagram. This can help drive traffic to your website and grow your following.

Additionally, invest in Google Ads, Facebook Ads, email marketing, and SEO for your website.

These tactics are crucial for increasing traffic and improving your website ranking.

Pinterest can be useful, but it might not be the best platform for promoting a blog. It's more suited for visual content like fashion or design.

Pinterest was awesome for me 10 years ago, but when Idea Pins came about in 2020-2021 my traffic tanked. I now spend about 15 mins a week scheduling pins - traffic started to return a bit in February but not where it was. I wish the now defunct Gawker sites were still active. Those were great for getting press and traffic.

Now I mainly rely on SEO, Facebook, and IG Stories. I also have been hella focused on my email list.

Also, my shade towards Pinterest is not from being naive. I’m an old school beta user with over 200k followers and was a freelance designer creating brand pins for Pinterest in the Pin Factory now Pin Studio. It’s an okay platform, but I think they’re really struggling internally with how Pinterest should work. The users want inspiration but the shareholders want it to be a shopping platform. As a publicly traded company they need to show profit. If you spend time making pins, be sure to treat it like SEO. Keyword everything from your pin title to your pin description and don’t forget to use keywords in your bio, board names, and board descriptions. Also mix up Idea Pins with regular pins and brand the heck out of Idea Pins since they don’t connect to your site (yet).

Post consistently. Use eye-catching visuals. Engage with your audience and other bloggers. Share your posts in relevant groups and forums. Collaborate with influencers. Check out Boostarz, a platform where your posts get good visibility.

Depending on Topics of your articles. LinkedIn is a good platform to share quality content, your’ll likely get more engagement then facebook, X etc..

To get more readers from social media, try sharing your articles with a personal touch, like pulling a quote or insight and adding a short thought when you post. Twitter (X), LinkedIn, and even Pinterest work well depending on your niche. Engaging with other writers and readers regularly helps too, it’s not just about sharing links, but joining the conversation.

Thank you for this! And what articles could I share on LinkedIn? My niche is a mix of relationship topics and unpopular opinions about men and women.

Turn those blog posts into scripts for YouTube videos, use an AI video generator to turn the script into a full video with broll and voiceover. Post on your channel and add the link in the description to the blog post (for people who prefer to read instead of watching a video).

Mention the blog link at the start of your video.

You will now get more traffic from YouTube to your blog, plus the traffic from YouTube itself is also very valuable. For many niches, videos perform better than written blogs for affiliate marketing.

Done.

You’ve got a solid foundation already. If you’re not doing much with SEO yet, I built a simple tool that helps writers optimize their articles without needing to learn all the technical stuff. Could help get more organic traffic alongside social.

how to promote your blog

Key Considerations for Promoting Your Blog

  1. Social Media Marketing: Share your blog posts on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. Tailor your content to fit each platform's audience and use relevant hashtags to increase visibility.

  2. SEO Optimization: Optimize your blog posts for search engines by using relevant keywords, writing compelling meta descriptions, and ensuring your site is mobile-friendly. This will help improve your organic search rankings.

  3. Email Marketing: Build an email list and send newsletters featuring your latest blog posts, exclusive content, or special offers. This keeps your audience engaged and encourages repeat visits.

  4. Networking and Guest Posting: Connect with other bloggers in your niche. Guest posting on their blogs can help you reach a wider audience and establish authority in your field.

  5. Engage with Your Audience: Respond to comments on your blog and social media. Engaging with your readers builds community and encourages them to share your content.

  6. Utilize Online Communities: Participate in forums and online communities related to your niche (like Reddit or niche-specific Facebook groups). Share your expertise and link to your blog when relevant.

  7. Content Repurposing: Turn your blog posts into different formats, such as videos, infographics, or podcasts. This allows you to reach different audiences and platforms.

Recommendation: Start with a combination of social media marketing and SEO optimization. These methods can significantly increase your blog's visibility and attract organic traffic. Consistency is key, so regularly promote your content and engage with your audience to build a loyal readership.
