TL;DR Use the repair tool on vehicles, aiming at specific spots like the upgrade panel when docked in a moonpool. Consider mods for automatic repairs.
Repairing Vehicles with the Repair Tool
In Subnautica, you can repair your vehicles using the repair tool. When your vehicle is docked in a moonpool, it may require some practice to find the right spot to aim the tool. Many players suggest aiming at the upgrade panel or modification port of the vehicle [1:5]
[4:2]. This method can be finicky and requires precise positioning
[4:7], but it is effective once you get the hang of it.
Automatic Repair Options
For those who prefer a more automated approach, there are mods available that can automatically repair docked vehicles. For example, the Cyclops has an upgrade module that can repair docked vehicles automatically [1:1]. Additionally, the moonpool auto repair mod is popular among players who want their vehicles repaired without manual intervention
[4:1].
Repairing While Inside the Vehicle
There's a technique that allows you to repair your vehicle while inside it, making you nearly invincible during gameplay. By having the repair tool equipped and entering the vehicle as your PDA closes, you can use the repair tool from within the vehicle. This is particularly useful for surviving deep dives and leviathan attacks [3:3].
Understanding Vehicle Damage
It's important to distinguish between your health bar and the vehicle's health bar. The heart icon represents your personal health, not the vehicle's [5:1]. Vehicles can sustain damage from falls or collisions with creatures
[5:6], and it's necessary to monitor the vehicle's health bar to know when repairs are needed.
Additional Tips
If you're experiencing difficulty repairing vehicles, ensure that you're correctly positioned relative to the vehicle. Some players have found success by standing under the vehicle or aiming at specific parts like the steering wheel [4:10]. If all else fails, deconstructing and reconstructing the vehicle is an option, though this is less practical
[5:7].
I hate having been on a really long trip, docking my seamoth and realizing I had to repair it. It's just so stupid why you can't use the repair tool on it while it is docked.
When you say "docked", what exactly do you mean? Vehicles in a moonpool can be repaired, and there's an upgrade for the Cyclops that automatically repairs any docked vehicles. The only thing I can't remember is if there's a way to manually repair a vehicle that's docked in the Cyclops.
Wait how do you repair vehicles in the moon pool It won't let me interact with them with the repair tool.
I play on PC, don't know if it's different for console or other platforms...
You kinda have to aim just below the upgrade access door, and you can repair from there!
The repair tool only works for me on the upgrade panel side of the seamoth. Not sure why.
Edit: when it’s docked in the moon pool.
Absolutely, on counsel you have to almost stand on your vessel but you can absolutely repair it while docked in a moonpool.
You can repair vehicles in moonpools, just takes practice to know where to hold the repair tool
Honestly, moonpool should just auto repair your vehicles just like it auto charges them.
One thing that absolutely fascinated me about this game is that you can repair vehicles and such. You don't have to drive them back to base, you don't have to re-build damaged base compartments, etc. Just whip out that little magic wand and done. No mats, either! Just battery power!
Man... that's just so awesome, IMO.
Maybe it could switch between powering and repairing with a switch
You can. The “hit box” is smaller than when in the water, but if you stand over either submersible you can definitely repair them in the moonpool.
You cannot unfortunately, cyclops needs an upgrade module to repair there is no other way to repair inside.
Nope. Never got why that wasn't a feature or add on since the cyclops can (with a mod).
This is really cool!!

That's just the borg cube
thank you so much for saying this, I was worried I was alone lol
Lost in space stuff?
(btw this works in both games) First you have to have your repair tool in your hand, then you open your pda. Then close your pda and get in the your vehicle as the pda Is closing. Once you get in your prawn or seamoth like this, youll have your repair tool in it. You can use the repair tool to repair your vehicle's damage without getting out the vehicle. This means that you can take vehicle's down to any depth you want, and survive any leviathan attack. This works best in the prawn due to its high health, but you can use it in the seamoth. This also works with the laser cutter, but that doesn't have much use in a vehicle, so I wouldnt recommend it. Go kill some leviathans, divers, and don't forget the doom music.
I love that this works thank you
So that’s how I did that. I’ve accidentally done that a few times but didn’t know how I did it
All Leviathans on planet 4546b are now dead ☠️ because Noah angry
If you aim your repair tool at the place you insert your upgrade modules it should start repairing
This is exactly what I do, always aim at the Access Upgrades on said vehicle.
I think you can, you just have to be positioned correctly. It’s kinda finicky.
yep had to go under the sub then aim at the steering wheel
Aim at the modification port, that's usually how I do it
Just ain’t it at the repair modules place, it works
You should just point it at the little upgrade thingy right there
It's the easiest one I've found
Yeah that little bug is one of my pet peeves
This is why I like the moonpool auto repair mod.
20+ minutes of positioning for 10 seconds of repairing
Thanks!
Just gotta use the tool at the module section
How do you even damage vehicles?
They take fall damage too
Really? I know that you can take fall damage in a vehicle but I don't think that the vehicle can
When out in the wild, if I came across one of the warthog things, I'd run one over, kill the other and then back the truck off the first one so I could kill it too.
I assume that way.
spiders
Are you sure that your vehicle is damaged?
The healthbar you see when driving is YOUR health-bar. Not the one from the vehicle.
Yeah, the one with the heart is full, and the damaged healthbar only pops up when I'm in the vehicle.
Deconstruct and reconstruct :)
So i know my charakter repairs but im wondering if These repair thingis from my base could also be atached to my ship
Repair drones can repair the ship theyre built on, repair tentacles can repair other ships.
Repair bots repair your ship, repair tentacles repair other ships.
Avoid repair bots spam though, I’d personally only place enough to make it repair out of combat (below 10). It’s a bad habit that can mess with learning how to build properly, and makes for some very material inefficient builds. I’d also test them out without any repair bots and only place them after you’re done to make them campaign ready.
Usually 1 per 5-10k is reasonable for small vehicles, shifting towards 1 per 10-15k side as the vehicle gets bigger. I personally have mine split across the vehicle, with one bot, and one small mat storage at the back, same at the front, and the rest (if I have more) spread across the vehicle, so if it survives combat, it can probably repair out of combat. Although, I also often just slap a repair tentacle on it instead if it is smaller that 15k, because it'll be part of a group.
ah yes, 66-100 for a 1mil ship
In addition to the info from the other posters, please note that in campaign you can only repair when you're within 1 tile of your own territory. Or was it only inside your own territory?
Either way, if you get too far away, you become unable to repair your craft at all.
Am i legaly allowed to think so litle?
1 tile is pretty far. On 1x speed, it should take a number of minutes to cross the distance, so while I don't know the exact dimensions of a tile, I will assume it's something like 10km a side.
To me it makes sense you wouldn't be able to affect repairs to multiple craft that far away from a support fleet, but it makes slightly less sense I wouldn't be able to repair my own craft, however slowly.
It is within your own territory and 1 tile away. So you were correct.
Use the repair tool on the box to the left
It doesn’t work it doesn’t let me repair it
Maybe you have to put out the fire? Either that or try saving and exiting and then getting back on. If that doesn’t work then maybe the door doesn’t get repaired from that side and I’m misremembering
The panel on the left side of the door. Just aim your repair tool there.
It doesn’t give me the repair option
Happened to me too, I just went the lower way, there's an entrance blocked by boxes not as high in the air, you'll need a propulsion cannon to get through.
I have this problem someone explain better how to get around thus
Go out to the front of the aurora, right where you went onto land, there is another entrance to go onto land, go up on that and there should be a doorway blocked off by cargo things, use your repulsor cannon thing to push them off
I had the same problem on my last playthrough. I just went around through the back way past the lab.
Where is the “back way”
And do you think it could stand to be changed or have suggestions on how it might be improved?
I like it but it would be cool for every device to have a diffrent minigame you do to fix it
Completely agree, among us would be a good example though its mini games are a bit too long don't all have a way to factor ingame skill into how long they take
I like that it's relatively simple and can also be handled by bots.
The reason is that there are other things that Engineer and Electric can do. Like rewiring things in the sub for Electric or going out to mine or fight with Exosuit for mechanics. Picking up loots from wrecks, repairing beacon stations and even covering turrets when there is less people. I wouldn't want to be disconnected from the game and just playing random minigames when playing those roles.
I think this is the part where modding shines. If you want something like that for larger crews, mod it.
More complexity can make it more fun. Something like an easier Immersive Repair/Enhanced Reactors mod so mechanics/engineers can have more roleplay feel like Neurotrama medics.
Personally I think it's a big waste to just have a waiting time, and having mini games like in among us or managing parts like in immersive repairs or mechtrauma would make things much more interesting, though of course just like neurotrauma it makes things harder for beginners
I mean It's not just waiting, you can press the repair button when it's in the green area of the bar to speed things up
Yeah but you've got to admit that it's not a particularly interesting mechanic, there is no real skill expression and I'm not sure how much it speeds it up to do it perfectly
For some weird ass reason I like it as it is
Mine is literally about to die lol
At space stations there sometimes will be sort of arrays with green lights on them, get close to them and stop, they will heal the hull
Ok thx
Thing has seen better days, and I definitely don’t want to have to make another. Also, a bit off topic admittedly, how are camera droids recharged?
You just use the repair tool!
This works? I tried this when it was docked in the mirror pool but had no luck. Does it need to be in open water?
The seamoth can also be repaired while docked in a moonpool. The aiming of the repair tool's reticle can be a bit finicky though. If it doesn't work, try moving your reticle around a bit.
Yes
Only alternate to repairing the Seamoth is to have the Cyclops Docking Repair Module, which automatically repairs a docked vehicle, but requires a Repair Tool to make the module (either way, you have to use the Repair Tool).
Camera drones recharge when you drive them back to the Scanner Room. They "dock" back into the little grooves on the side where they get generated when you build the room.
I'll have to test it first, but I think you can also charge them with Swim Charge Fins, since I think you are able to hold the drone with your hands.
It doesn’t need to be driven to the groove does it? Just near the room itself? I’m not really sure where the cameras came out of
Unfortunately, the cameras do not wirelessly charge. There should be a small round indent exactly the size of the cameras in the side of the scanner room (one on either side) and if the camera view randomly flips around or straightens out, you know you’ve docked it (don’t move at all after docking or it’ll just pop right back out).

Key Considerations for Repairing Vehicles in Subnautica
Repair Tool: To repair vehicles, you need a Repair Tool. This tool is crafted using:
Vehicle Damage: Keep an eye on your vehicle's health. If it gets damaged (indicated by a red health bar), you will need to repair it to ensure it functions properly.
Repairing Process:
Power Source: Ensure that your vehicle has enough power. If it runs out of energy, you will need to recharge it using power cells or solar chargers.
Avoiding Damage: To minimize repairs, be cautious while navigating. Avoid collisions with terrain, hostile creatures, and environmental hazards.
Recommendation: Always carry a Repair Tool with you when exploring deeper areas or engaging in combat. This ensures you can quickly fix any damage and continue your adventures without interruption. Additionally, consider crafting extra power cells to keep your vehicles charged and ready for use.
